The glutton in me cries for Local! I especially love their Bleu Ribbon and Return of the Mac burgers, and if you're red meat free, try their crunchy, and moist The Captain fried chicken sandwich. Their Sea Salt and Truffle Fries with Garlic Aioli, are the perfect addition to any entree sandwich. Don't leave without a black and white milkshake or Boylan soda. I got the blue cheese burger and it was out of this world!! I recommend getting it without any additional sauces as it allows the blue cheese to really do the talking! Fried pickles left something to be desired. The battering was great BUT they use deli pickles instead of a more classic gerkin. The flavor of the batter and pickles conflicted slightly. Waitress was very friendly and the atmosphere is industrial. I really recommend this place for a group of friends to hang and watch sports or if you want a great burger in general. We went to Local Burger Co. after the Bay Shore Saint Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday March 10th, 2018. Just like most of the people attending the parade, we had been drinking all day and were looking for someplace to go for dinner around 6pm. Because we've been to Salt & Barrel, Changing Times and Coastal, and were looking for something casual that we haven't tried, we decided on Local Burger Co. Due to the parade and the crowd, they had a hostess and a bouncer set up outside at the front entrance. We had to put our name in and wait... OUTSIDE... in the freezing, windy, cold for close to 30 minutes for a table. Granted, we were outside for most of the day, but that was while the sun was out and it wasn't that bad. Once the sun went down, the wind picked up, the temperature dropped and it was freezing out there. We definitely weren't happy about having to wait outside! Once we were allowed in, we were brought to a little two-seater right under a cutout that looks directly into the kitchen. What I witnessed should've immediately made me turn around and walk out. Again, I will state that I understand that it must've been a crazy day for anyone working at a restaurant on Main Street in Bay Shore after the parade. Being a chef, I've worked those shifts and I know how crazy things can get in a kitchen. So I will overlook the fact that the kitchen was a disaster. The floors were a mess and the counters were a mess and it looked like things hadn't been wiped down since the place opened. And I was actually ok with that. What disgusted me was the 5 cooks working the line that didn't have gloves on and were building burgers with their bare hands. And on top of that, on the other side of the expo line were a bunch of servers eating like they were at a buffet. And I didn't notice this just once, when I got up to go to the bathroom, when I got back from the bathroom and when we were getting up to leave, I witnessed the same thing every time I looked in the kitchen. This really bothered me but since we waited outside for so long, were frozen and starving, I made the judgement call to stay and eat. Thinking back on it now, I must've been pretty drunk to stay after witnessing what I did. For our meals, Lahna ordered a bacon cheeseburger no bun, I ordered the Hangover and we shared an order of the Celtic fries. For being manhandled with no gloves, our food was pretty good. The celtic fries could've used more corned beef though. And the egg on my burger was way over fried when I was hoping that it would come out runny. As far as the service, our waitress hardly came around. She was either busy waiting on other tables, waiting at the bar for drinks, or in the kitchen, probably eating her shift meal with the rest of the servers in the middle of their shift right in the open kitchen for everyone to see. Sorry Local, anyone with a frying pan can make a thin patty burger and put it on a Martin's potato bun and not risk catching a foodborne illness. read more

This is an updated review! 4/5/17 I had dinner here a few days ago. I love the atmosphere and look of the restaurant/burger place. One thing I took note of this time is the music selection, its a great selection of classics. Now to the food... I ordered something very different from the last time I went. I had the Captain, which is a breaded chicken sandwich, had pickles and coleslaw. Wow the taste was great! The one down side is that my chicken was a little burnt, so it was hard. Yet I still personally enjoyed it. One down side were the fries. They had the potential to be really good, but they were really hard, I actually had to ask for new fries, they were rock hard. They seemed to have been over cooked or reheated fries. Overall, I enjoyed my food, it had some down sides, but they can work on it, to enhance the overall experience. Customer service was excellent, everyone was do nice and tentative. O and on Mondays they have a special 2 for 1 Milkshake promotion. read more

Hit or miss here. The first time I came, my burger was cooked perfectly and it was delicious. The next time I came I was disappointed. My burger was over cooked. With Shake Shack, Smashburger, and Five Guys, it always bums me out when I get a dry burger. I generally won't return a burger because a burger joint should know how to cook a burger properly. Tried this place, as it was recommended in my local ad papers as one of five good local burger joints. Tale of the tape: Return of the Mac Burger: bacon, cheddar, homemade mac-n-cheese on a burger with garlic aioli sauce on the side. I found the rather flat burger patty to be somewhat insubstantial, and the mac and cheese was just ok at best. I do think it's cool that they brand the top of the burger bun with the name and location of the place. The garlic aioli was not garlicky enough for my tastes. Cajun Fries: large portioned and prepared with Cajun seasoning. The seasoning is not too hot - it would have been ok with me if it had been, but at least the flavor was there. In the "Chow Now" special instructions I asked for them to be well done, but it seemed like they were regularly done to me . . . Corn Bread Muffin: while it lacked the cornmeal grit that is vital to a really good corn bread/muffin, I nonetheless enjoyed the flavor anyway, and ate it without butter or their maple mayo. If it had had the grit, it may well have been elevated to be among the best corn muffins I've ever had. Hush Puppies: these could be the best hush puppies I've ever had. They were light, unlike others I've had before, and had a good taste. I would imagine they use the same batter that is used in their corn bread muffin - and in this form it shines. If they had had the cornmeal grit in there, it would have been amazing! Great South Bay Draught Root Beer: seeing the "draught" part of the description made me try this, and I should have resisted the temptation. I've had better root beers at much less than half the price. At an incredible $4.50 for about 12 oz (and that if you ask for no ice like I did in the special instructions), it just isn't worth it folks . . . Conclusion: I was a little disappointed with my first order from Local Burger, but I am willing to give it another shot - perhaps their chicken and pulled pork sandwiches, and maybe the truffle fries. Great atmosphere and great food! Not a very big menu but had a lot of different items. I got the standard burger on a gluten free bun and it was so good! Cooked just right. Also had a side of chili cheese fries and fried horseradish pickles which were both awesome! Everything was organic and local even their soda was all natural. Had all organic cocktails like a local Bloody Mary and Moscow mule (which I didn't try but sounded so good) drinks were served in a mason jar which I'm always a sucker for. It's usually pretty busy whenever we go there, but you never wait too long to be seated. I love this place! The hangover is my favorite burger by far! The egg is always fried just right and the burger itself always tastes fresh and juicy. We really are in love with their burgers. Not the gourmet burger you might find elsewhere, their burgers are that nostalgic taste of burgers one might get from a beach grill. As we don't love any of their sides, tonight, we did take-out again and tried the chili cheese dog. Never, ever again! I think they save the overcooked hotdogs for this purpose. The first clue was the desiccated ends of the dog--usually the best and snappiest part, was clearly inedible. Almost rawhide-ish. The chili lacked flavor (needed salt) and I had no idea that the promised chopped onions were in fact included. Do NOT get the chili cheese dog if you don't have the opportunity to send it back. read more

This place is terrible and has gone downhill unfortunately. The past 3 times we ordered the captain which is a fried chicken sandwich and it was horrendous. The chicken was completely dry and burnt, it wasn't even crispy it was rock hard. I've had better chicken sandwiches at Burger King. They also always screw up the order we order half onion rings half fries and they only gave us onion rings.Anyone who says this place is good is probably friends and family of the owners. This two fisted delight served with fresh cut lettuce, sliced tomato, sautéed onion & cheese on a branded bun. Open wide to bite this burger. So juicy it's placed into a wax wrapped bag, that you need because the juices start flowing from your first bite. This is not the burger for eating ladylike. You must sit up close to the table and make sure your tray is under your chin. With a side of Sweet Potato fries & dip, and greens for the day-Brussels Sprouts drizzled with a unique recipe of sprinkled bacon bits and a mayo/mustard mixture that was delicious. Sweet Potato fries cut thin and dusted with cinnamon & brown sugar ooh yeah! My happy dance began. Topped this with their original ice tea with a hint of ginger, so refreshing! Dining is comfortable because of a variety of: large booths, counter seating, window seating or outdoors. Their name represents where their food comes from, local merchants. This place has a fabulous staff who are friendly and accommodating. As I waited for my meal I observed how waiters walked around to check up on their customer's experience-excellent. That's customer service. Large TVs flank the wall behind the counter seating. And yes, high chairs are available for the little ones. The bathroom is very clean and has a changing table for infants. The decor is rustic, Art Deco chic. Our waiter Dominic was knowledgeable of the menu and helped us to decide how to order because the menu was chock full of goodies. Met the chef on our way out, who was friendly and happy to hear how much we enjoyed our food. I must say he did a superb job. I definitely will return for round two. I went for lunch today! This was my first time coming to local burger! I ordered my food and they got my burger wrong twice! Not once but twice! who I think is the manager came over to me and apologized but not a sincere apology and she gave me two extra onion rings because my burger was wrong twice? What is two onion rings gonna do? When we got the check nothing was taken off the bill, ( not that I expect anything for free ) wasn't even offered money off, a coupon, a free drink or a comped burger! 5 stars for Local Burger Co. This place came highly recommended from a fellow Yelper so i knew it had to be good. I came here on a beautiful Friday afternoon for lunch. When I arrived, they had all of the big front doors open and music playing. Definitely a good scene for the warm weather. There was no wait at this time and my friend and I sat at a table right in front by the street. We were greeted by the waitress right away who was very sweet and helpful with the menu. They had a long list of local cocktails and I went with the Local Mary. So spicy! I loved it and recommend it, just wish it was a little bigger. Picking out a burger is a hard choice because they all sound amaaaazing. I was feeling the Bleu Ribbon Burger and decided to go with it. You can create your own burger if you'd like to do that also. We ordered the Fiddy-Fiddy too, which is half onion rings half fries. The wait time for the food was normal time expected for a good burger, about 15-20 minutes. My burger was very good but a little plain tasting (meaning the toppings). I definitely want to try the Atomic next time I come. The prices here are really good. You would think a place like this would be overpriced but they're very fair! Something you HAVE to try here are the onion rings. my wife and i frequent the patchogue location which is fantastic, but this one... not so much. spent almost $40 on two grilled chicken sandwiches, truffle fries, side of aioli sauce and a milk shake. the truffle fries were undercooked, the aioli sauce never came out, the gluten free buns were stale and old, and the chicken was some how drier than the bread. not enough sauce on the sandwiches, just over all this location is trash. drive the extra 10 min and go to patchogue. oh, the milkshake was delicious. read more

Local burger is great! Their captain chicken sandwich is huge and so delicious! I haven't tried their burgers yet, since I'm not a big red meat eater, but my boyfriend loves them! The only thing that's annoying is having to pay extra for sides. In my opinion, a burger or sandwich should come with fries or onion rings. I try to share a side with someone, because it can get a little pricey with all of the extras! Their onion rings and salt and vinegar fries are delicious, highly recommend both of those!
