The wings were tasty, but they were small in size. The steak was just okay. The flavor was good, but the portion was pretty small. Our favorite thing was definitely the frozen Miami Vice, half piña colada and half daiquiri. It reminded us of the frozen drinks you get in Miami by the beach. Service was great. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, checked on us frequently and showed our pup some love, which we appreciated. We enjoyed our experience and the dog friendly outdoor seating was a plus. The food was more along the lines of typical bar food, so I would say this is a good spot for drinks, wings and a casual bite rather than a destination for the food itself.

Down to the food::: Normally I can do about six meaty wings by myself, but we tried to order the smallest portion of bone in (12) and split the sauce, but I understand that that can be a lot for the kitchen! I prefer a meatier wing myself but my husband likes wings on the smaller side; sauces were delicious so it was a happy medium! I ordered a burger as well and I knew I had to slow down on the wings if I even want to have remote room for the burger! Eating an every day type of butgerand this one did the job but it wasn't anything amazing and nothing to write home about! I would eat here again, but I wouldn't necessarily say I'm feigning to go back! If this place was local to my house, you could bet the ranch that I would be there more often. I was not disappointed, but I also didn't get that. Wow, factor that I was expecting.... I wanna miss food at a place that I haven't eaten at. I want that one bite that keeps me wanting more and this was a good meal, but didn't quite hit the mark as far as food experience service. Three star reviews are never meant to be negative. Sometimes it's just how things go. Nothing is…read morebad per se, but nothing is necessarily great either. That was kind of the case a few weeks ago at Dark Horse Tavern in Bay Shore. I came here with some buddies for dinner on a Sunday night and things were totally fine. I mean like I said, I can't speak to anything being truly negative. Dark Horse had a relatively spacious and inviting interior with a little holiday flair. Our waitress was friendly enough and our food came at a good pace. And what I ordered wasn't too shabby...though I guess if there's anything to say about my three star feelings, it might be there. Now Dark Horse did have a decently-sized menu, but after visiting a brewery prior to this dinner trip, I was feeling something simple like a burger. Featuring a juicy Lucy sounded like a win as did the idea of Cajun fries. Those spuds were rather good, though the juicy part of said Lucy wasn't really that juicy. Despite having never been to Minnesota, I know this type of burger really needs some gooey cheese coming out of it and this one lacked that. The burger itself was good, but like an "easily-forgettable" good. The same could be said for their Dark Horse Lager beer. I've been to other Dark Horses on the island and have seen (and I believe had) this brew, but for whatever reason it just seemed very bland and basic. Perhaps after having some more elaborate beers prior my tastebuds were looking for something with more zing, but I can't say for sure. All I know is between this and the basic burger, I really didn't have anything great (or ultimately negative) to say. Overall, yeah I suppose some of that sounds negative and a three star review feels a little meh towards other prospective eaters and readers of this review, but that's me telling the truth here. If I were in Bay Shore and someone suggested Dark Horse for dinner I probably wouldn't say no because just about everything will be decent enough, but if you're specifically asking me for recommendations in the area, I'm probably going to mention a bunch of other places instead. Just sayin'.

Local Burger: Nachos Steal the Show After hearing rave reviews about Local Burger, my wife and I decided to grab takeout and see if it lived up to the hype. The restaurant itself looked promising - the interior was clean and inviting, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Unfortunately, the namesake burger was a bit of a letdown. The patty was smaller than expected, and while the flavor was decent, it didn't quite justify the $8+ price tag. The bun seemed to be a standard Martin's potato roll, which, while perfectly fine, didn't add anything special to the experience. My wife, who ordered the burger, agreed that it was good but not exceptional. The real star of the show was the burger nachos. This dish was absolutely fantastic! It was piled high with flavorful beef, melted cheese, and all the classic burger fixings. We couldn't get enough of it. Overall, while the burger itself didn't quite meet our expectations, the delicious nachos definitely redeemed the experience. We'll be back for those nachos again and again! If you're looking for a tasty and satisfying meal, don't miss the burger nachos at Local Burger. read more

Walking inside you can tell the designer worked real hard on this restaurant ... he ate at the Refuge in Melville, took lots of pictures and than went home and sourced everything from the chairs, distressed wood, welded steel all the way to the light fixtures. The food all around was really good that's why the 3 stars but when the min wage hike comes in January they will either have to cut staff and lack service or raise prices and become too expensive, i just don't see it doing enough covers in that space with the overhead to turn a profit and the electric bill alone from the Edison bulbs must be EXPENSIVE!!.. either way enjoy their food while they last . Lastly if your going to charge for refills on soda don't serve it in a mason jar that's just wrong use the 16oz plastic Pepsi cups you get where you got your design from... minus 2 stars for clear design copying and charging for refills in tiny glasses. read more

They showed up with two tiny electric grills that could barely fit four burgers at a time -- and those same small grills were used to cook everything: burgers, sausage, steak (which was hard as a rock and completely inedible), and chicken. There were long lines of guests just standing there waiting for food. Many ended up walking away because it was taking so long. They provided only one small tray of salad, which ran out in the first 20 minutes -- with no refills, no backup, and no dressing (they claimed it was already "on it"). What really frustrated me was the lack of transparency. The company's website shows a large professional grill under the Deluxe Package -- that's NOT what they bring. When I questioned it afterward, they pointed to a line on the invoice that said "electrical outlets needed." I assumed that was for warming trays or fries -- not for cooking everything on a tiny portable Blackstone-style grill. I truly regret not sending them away and just ordering trays of food myself. I paid a lot of money for gross food, poor service, and an embarrassing experience for my guests. On a positive note, we also had the Crepes and Pizza at the party -- and their food was absolutely delicious.
