We've eaten here three times and are quite happy with the food. The concept is a great idea, where we can choose our own base, five to six different kinds of protein, many sides and and many sauces. The food tastes so fresh. They have fountain drinks or can and bottle drinks. The ambience was decent, where we didn't have to yell at one another when we were talking. The restaurant and men's restroom was pretty clean. Wow, a clean men's restroom-you can't beat that! Great service from the owner and other employees. The 4 star review is solely for the poke. As I have been here dozens of times through the years, I feel I should give them a solid review because I do love their food. HOWEVER; I must say, the dude with the red hair, should not be working anywhere near the customer/ front of house. You can easily sense his anxiety and if 1 person is in line behind you, he will get very flustered and it isn't subtle. If you mess up on any of the stations he will have this condescending/just robotic tone with you and it's just awkward. He's not on your team when he's making your bowl, i feel like I'm ordering from the soup nazi from Seinfeld. Awesome poke choice in town that beats the competition's prices and is comfortable, low key, and best part, the local poke team let you sample as many sauces as you want and are super accommodating on however you want to build your poke bowl. They have a lot of different toppings and sauces that not all poke places have and for the price of a large bowl at local poke -- 4 proteins and two sides - is the price you pay for maybe two at other places. Trying to try some new Poke places since I've been going to the same two non stop lately. I made an effort to come here, wanted to try it out. Parking is easy, just park in the back and enter through the back door. All the guys that work there are super nice! Now, the pike itself. Houston is becoming a hot spot for pike these days, and sadly I just don't think this place will get worked into my rotation. It wasn't bad at all! If you're in the area, by all means check it out, but given the choice of different pike options and time on my hands, I won't be returning. I created my own bowl, salmon was fresh, nice size cubes, but there just wasn't enough choices for me. I know in Hawaii the pike topping choices are limited, so this is much more similar, sorta, to that style, but, comparing it to other pike joints in the inner loop, it's lacking. Admittedly, I came to try this place out because it was the only other five star poke place besides Diced Poke, which I've been to many times. I built my own medium bowl of shrimp, marinated tuna, and salmon on top of brown rice. The bowl comes with two sides and I decided on crab mix and seaweed salad. I chose the poke sauce (soy base) and spicy mayo on top and also added on a bunch of additional toppings. Overall, the poke tasted really good- probably one of the better bowls I've had in Houston. Personally, I'd have to say that this place wasn't quite on par with Diced Poke simply because of the variety of sides/toppings and interior atmosphere, but don't get me wrong- this was a really solid bowl of poke that I would be back for if I was more conveniently in the area. read more

I really wanted to like this place. However, after the third try here, I've given up. The first time, my poke bowl was drenched so heavy in sauce, that it was like soup and I could barely taste the main ingredients. The second time I ordered from here, I tried to pay cash, and they couldn't break a $100 bill (also, they are ALWAYS out of diet soda). The third time, my order was actually by accident as my phone auto populated location from my work location. I called the restaurant immediately to cancel and no one answered the phone. I then called GrubHub to cancel and they told me they could not cancel The order and they would call Local poke to negotiate. The restaurant refused to cancel my order because they said they had already started making it and stated that the order would be available for pick up one hour after I accidentally placed it. I think anyone who eats poke knows that it does NOT take one hour to make a poke bowl and clearly they had not started preparing the order because the pick up time would've never been one hour after placing it. This was a really poor move by Local poke, as they have just Lost a customer who has given them several chances. read more

I will say for a Texas place, it was fresher than I had expected. The salmon wasn't as fresh as I had but I'll be back for sure as it's the best I've had in Houston thus far. The toppings were up to par - plentiful and everything I could get in Hawaii which left me feeling really excited about my soon to devour Poké bowl. I ordered a small. It was plenty for me with two scoops of my choice of protein. My boyfriend ordered a medium and his came With three scoops and any toppings. It was plentiful for him as well. Okay, this may sound odd, but those of you who are caught up with this season of Silicon Valley can probably relate when I tell you that the interior of this place is stress-inducing. When I walked into this narrow, stark-white restaurant with the furniture to the extreme degree of minimalism and not a single piece of art work or decorations in sight, I immediately felt ill at ease. It was painful to look at the beyond clinical setting, and I instantly told my boyfriend we had to take our order to go, even though we had planned on dining in. To add to the general level of discomfort, the two workers serving the small line-up of three patrons were flustered beyond recovery when they accidentally starting adding my toppings to the wrong bowl. After I quickly corrected them, they proceeded to swap bowls on the assembly line with each other a number of times (think watching the hidden ball under a hat at a sports game number of times) so that things got even more confused. Without looking for help or confirmation from any of the patrons, they starting placing my ingredients in yet another wrong bowl, which caused even more chaos. (On the plus side though, at least they were getting my ingredients right every time) After getting everything sorted out and escaping the claustrophobic interior, I had a lovely time enjoying my bowl. The ingredients were supremely fresh, and I was happy with the variety of toppings and add-ons they offered. (Can everyone serve wonton nachoes??) They have fair prices, and the bowls are the perfect serving and quality for what you pay for. 4 stars may seem surprising after the experience I had, but I really just can't help but like this place. Solid. High points are the price, the choices in proteins, sides, and combinations, and location. low points, unfortunately, were flavor and presentability/aesthetics. The medium bowl is only $10ish and you get three scoops of protein and a DEEP af bowl. The large bowl might as well be a bowl for an entree soup idk how anyone will finish that. they've got ebi on top of the usual salmon, yellowtail, and some marinated proteins that i didn't care for (they looked old and the flavor didn't taste that fresh once it's been marinated). You've got your choice of salad, brown rice, white rice, or nachos for a base which is just fried wonton strips; i tried one and it was too greasy for me, and left me feeling mildly guilty. The rest of the side options i loved! The sauces were heavy and when mixed together overwhelmed the delicate fish. I highly recommend AGAINST the wasabi SAUCE. The presentation of the final bowl is kind of messy and not as insta-worthy as others (not that this is really that important, but something i definitely noticed). The service is very helpful and friendly, and the interior seats probably roughly 8 small parties. The first thing i noticed about the interior was that it was a stroooong lysol smell. Not super appetizing to smell while i'm ordering. EITHER WAY the poke is good if you don't overload like I did and keep the sauces simple. They give you a BUNCH of rice...come hungry. I'm not complaining but since there are so many new poke joints in competition, I have to compare. I still think seaside has the best overall poke, but this place has amazing value. read more

Holy moly this place is definitely one of my new favorite poke spots!!! Here are the things that set it apart from the many other shops popping up in Houston: 1) the owner made our bowls and was super courteous and nice! The white rice was cooling so delayed our bowls and because of this he gave us each a free side which was so great of him. He even came and found us after we had sat down to give us more mango since the line had nearly run out. 2) they offer poke nachos which is the first time I've seen it. I haven't tried it but it looks pretty tasty! 3) they offer cucumber as a base which is different. I got a combo of white rice and cucumbers. 4) they offer marinated proteins that they separate out from your mixed bowl of protein and sauce. Thought this was a creative way to try a different flavor in the same bowl. 5) no extra charge for avocado or tobiko which is awesome. 6) they offer hamachi as a protein which not every poke place does 7) they offer spicy tuna as one of your sides, never seen that before 8) prices are amazing for the amount of food out get a medium is $10 and a large is $12. This poke spot has some of the best value in town. For $10, you can choose 3 proteins, 2 sides, and unlimited mix-ins and toppings. The sides include avocado, so you can get free avocado if you include it in your 2 sides. All of the ingredients were high quality, and the spicy poke sauce was hands-down the best poke sauce I've had at a place like this in Houston. I'm assuming that they only had one person working because it's still in soft opening, which made service terribly slow. Another little annoyance is that, visually, the ingredients are not in the right order as they would like you to pick them (the menu above will have them in the right order). And finally, the guy kept saying "Ahi?" Whenever we would say tuna. Look dude, if you want us to say Ahi, change the menu to say Ahi too. It literally says Tuna still.
