Nice spot in downtown Lawrenceville. Great service, interesting menu with celebrity names ie The Patrick Swayze burger. We couldn't connect why they picked the names they did, but it was still fun to figure out. I had the BLT sandwich and it was delicious. Crunchy bacon, and a good ratio of sandwich innards to bread so I wasn't dying of thirst and just a whole lot of flavor. My fiance had the Patrick Swayze burger. I wasn't a fan of this probably because the bite I got was a mouthful of their ghost pepper sauce which REALLY burns. So, if you love spicy (which I do) and you're not afraid (which I am), you should give this a try. It's a decent burger. Love the simple decor, and terrific service. We came on a Saturday noon time when they just opened so it wasn't too busy, but this feels like a local eatery that I wish was closer to me. This restaurant has been on my list for a long time. I've heard many great things about this place, especially the burgers and craft beers. I came for lunch with Justin and it was his first time in Lawrenceville, especially Downtown Lawrenceville. We had an amazing experience with the food. Justin fell in love with their pimento cheese that we got as an appetizer. I would totally recommend their pimento cheese with bacon and jalapenos. The bread/cracker/thing it came with was amazing too. In fact, I would recommend NOT sharing this with a friend, because it is so good. For entrees, I got the Sink burger and Justin got the cuban. We actually shared half of each other's sandwiches. I thought the burger was awesome and fun because the kitchen can choose what comes on it along with the burger and the egg. It tasted amazing but was just really messy and hard to eat. I wouldn't recommend this as a going-on-a-date item. Justin's cuban was really great too. A little oily, but some people love that. The meat and bread was great. Justin also got some mac and cheese which was pretty goood. I really enjoyed it. My wife and I went here one night because we were in the mood for something different. They don't take reservations and the seating was really tight, but I did like the fact that they came to find us at the bar next door when our names came up on their list. My burger was decent (good toppings, but the kitchen sink concept was annoying because they don't allow any modifications), but my wife's food wasn't very good (jerk chicken that was dry and tasted like it had been seasoned with Greek spices. Wtf?) and the restaurant was wayyyy too snobby for being out in Lawrenceville, GA. The beer is overpriced for what you get, and the servers thought they were too good to be there. They hardly paid attention to our table until the check was due. I wouldn't even put up with that attitude in the city. I won't be looking to go back any time soon. read more

Went here for 4th of July eve to watch the fireworks from their patio. Although we missed the whole thing looking for parking... but we could see it in the car. It wasn't a total bummer. Parking can be difficult during their busy time but there is parking... this is downtown Lawrenceville as is expected. It was a quiet evening so we were able to get a table quickly. First thing first, a glass of Riesling, which was nice, light and sweet. We sat out in the patio and it was after 8pm so there wasn't much lighting, I had to use my cell phone light to see the menu. We started off with chicken livers, poached egg with mushroom risotto and chicken & sausage gumbo. My friend and I wasn't a fan of the chicken livers because there were no flavor in it. It was a little big soggy and bland. The poached egg risotto was amazing. Really creamy and the risotto was cooked nicely - a big plus. The gumbo has to be my least favorite, I didn't care for the dark roux, thought it was too much... it didn't taste like gumbo to me. Meh. Our favorite is the Lamb Tostada, it was delicious. The lamb was really tender and they gave a generous piece on each of the order. I like the jalapenos on the side to give it that bite, but it was so good. This is one that I would come back for again. All in all, it was a really nice evening. The service was fine, the ambiance can be rowdy during their peak time I'm assuming. I love, love, love this place! I'm so glad the beau suggested coming here. Local Republic is located in downtown Lawrenceville and has their own parking lot. He didn't realize this and parked in an open lot nearby. The atmosphere reminded me of Rico's World Kitchen in downtown Buford - a cozy diner with friendly people (employees and patrons, alike). It was interesting to see all the girls (and one guy) working. There was no uniform, so you could see everyone's very unique style and personality through their clothes. For food, we ordered: - Pimento cheese, bacon, and jalapeño on toast: I didn't really know what to expect, as I've never had pimento cheese before, but this was really good! The jalapeño was slightly pickled but more on the raw, burning, spicy side. The bacon was cut thick and wasn't overly salty, which I like. - Shrimp and grits: Hands down, this was the best I ever had! The shrimp was large and plump and the sauce was amazing. With a touch of tabasco sauce, the dish was absolute perfection. - Cuban sandwich: Beau used to frequent a chain restaurant where the cuban sandwiches were really good (until they went downhill) so he wanted to try it here. He was not disappointed. It was a little small, but the meats were seasoned well and the mustard wasn't overpowering. This came with a side of chips, or you can upgrade to another side for an additional charge. - Vanilla bean creme brulee: I would actually skip on this next time, though the beau liked it. The consistency varied throughout the same ramekin. The caramelized sugar on top was perfect - not too thick of a layer and was easy to crack through with the back of the spoon. Right underneath, the custard was very thick, almost flan-like. Towards the bottom of the ramekin, the custard was more loose, similar to that of pudding. They had a nice selection of craft beers, but unfortunately only one cider at the time (Jack's). I saw that they also carried a couple of Belgian lambics, but they were insanely expensive ($12 or $14, when the local package store sells it for much cheaper), so I did not opt for a secondary beverage. The beau picked an IPA, but I don't remember which one. Service was very friendly, but not as attentive as I would have liked. For once, I was actually really thirsty and drank a lot of water. A lot of the time, both of us sat without anything to drink. In their defense, the restaurant was quite busy, so I'm not dinging them on it. The other patrons were really nice, too. All the tables are really close together, so you're (almost literally) rubbing elbows with the person beside you. It ended up not being so bad, because the table beside us was a hoot! While I am all for a restaurant / chef to distinguish themselves with food options that are different than other places, Local Republic unfortunately fails at their effort. We went there a couple weeks ago based on the reviews, and were excited for a great meal, but were left very unimpressed. On the plus side, the appetizers were good...we had scallops and the pimento cheese on toast, and both were tasty. That however was the end of our enjoyment. My wife ordered the veggie panini but wanted it w/out the red peppers. She was told she couldn't get it without the peppers because it wouldn't "respect the chef's vision" of the sandwich. Say what??? What on Earth does that mean? If the customer is paying you money for food done a certain way, we should not be told no. When the panini arrived, it looked as if it had been made hours ago, and simply warmed up. The veggies were soggy and get this...the red peppers were simply laid on the mushrooms like anything else you would put on a sandwich. So if they were simply laid on there, what would prevent the chef from just not putting them on in the first place, like we asked? In the end, we pulled the peppers off, but it didn't matter as the panini was terrible...soggy, bland (no taste from the pesto) and cold. We informed the waitress hoping she would accommodate in some way, but not. My wife did not finish it. I ordered the chicken and cheese sandwich, because well...how can you go wrong with chicken and cheese? Well it turns out there is a way. Like the panini, it was incredibly bland. But I ended up finishing, due to my hunger. Next came my side dish of bacon mac and cheese. Oh my god! This had to have been the worst mac and cheese I've ever had in my entire life. It didn't taste like cheese at all, but more like chemicals, that ultimately made me gag a little bit. And to top it off, it was sitting in it's own vat of what I thought was bacon grease. Again, told the waitress to no avail. I'm not looking for any handout, but if you tell the waitress twice that the food was not good, you'd think she'd try and accommodate the customer somehow. Nope! In the end, they try to hard to make unique dishes, utilizing weird combinations and sometimes foods I've never heard of. Needless to say, we will not be going back. read more

Well, Local Republic is as good as you may have heard and as good as the rest of these Yelp-ers testify to ... We happened to be in the area recently and tried out the LR for a lunch. There seemed to be people waiting outside for a table and I was hesitant at first but we were seated right away (so "whatever" they were waiting for ...?) There was only one open small, "really-in-the-way" kind of table inside and one table open outside. Despite the August summer weather, we chose the outside table rather than be shoved on the curb of rushing wait staff. It's not bad sitting outside, it was a relatively comfortable day for August and there is plenty of shade on their nicely appointed patio. Though you will be dodging pesky flies and some other winged vermin. The patio is a bit less crowded and loud than the tiny interior but the potential for the overcrowding is certainly there. The menu is creatively presented on the photocopied paper tacked onto wooden "planks." There is a good wine and beer menu and Coca-Cola is the mexican import in glass bottles (trendy!). (Diet Coke is still in can though.) There is a lot to like on the menu at Local Republic so I can see it being worthwhile to frequent if you are in the area. It's clear this place is a hit with the Lawrenceville locals and it deserves to be. There is parking behind the restaurant and all over the streets of downtown Lawrenceville. OMG this is by far my favorite restaurant right now. I have eaten here 3 times and the food is always superb! Shrimp & grits, fish tacos, gumbo and the cuban sandwich have been top notch. The shrimp & grits have a cajun flavor. Don't forget to have one of the many craft beers available. Oh and did mention the service is some of the best I have ever had and all of their food is made fresh daily and purchased from local growers. The only downside is that the dining area is not that large but if it was bigger the charm and atmosphere would not be the same. My first visit to Local Republic was a complete bust, but I'm so glad that I gave it a second chance. Everyone raved about the burgers so my first visit I ordered a burger, medium. It came out and the patty was cold and gray in the middle, not warm and pink like a medium fineness should be. I pointed it out to the server and he assured me that was medium. My husband and I both were stunned. He insisted over and over that the cold, gray patty was a medium burger! My second experience was much, much better. A coworker talked me into going because he loved the place so I said fine, but you order for me because clearly I didn't choose correctly. He ordered the pork cheeks and yes, it was amazing. We've returned several times since, and I've delved back into the burgers and they've been perfect each time. Maybe that first visit was just a fluke. The pimento cheese toast is great for a starter! Fifth time visiting The Local Republic, and it has yet to let us down in any way, shape or form. Again, I walk through the door and I am immediately greeted with a "Hey Andy" which draws my mind toward Norm of Cheers. Spot-on indeed. The beer selection seems to fit my niche perfect, or maybe it's just that Erik the server/bartender knows me all too well. Either way, this place has a beer just for me, no matter the season. The ladyfriend always has a glass of wine with no complaints, so I assume their wine selection is just as on-par with their beer. I've come to realize that you must order their daily specials to get the full effect of what the chef wants you to taste. I tend to order a fish dish, and tonight was no different... I'll spare you the details, but the flavors were vocal, and clear, with not a bland moment. Yeah, it's not cheap, but if you are of the bland varieties, then I am sure your cellphone has an app that can show you the way to your nearest Applebee's. Chain food this is not. Bring your appetite as well as your wallet, and sit shoulder to shoulder with your neighborhood's best cuisine in front of you. They are known for their sandwiches but please try the soup, we all got a sample and then we all ordered it. The staff are friendly and it's just an awesome spot. All I have to say is My Lord! Staff Christina and Natalie were awesome. The Best Shrimp and Grits I've had. They really did them right! Perfect shrimp to grits ratio. Seasoned to perfection.. I didn't have to add anything. Perfect spice. The shrimp were succulent and the grits creamy. Yes yes yes. My new favorite place for sure! Watch out pappadeauxs. And the only downer was my $8 glass of wine ... Was very low...in my glass. Like I literally waited to eat all my food then I drank it all down in a few gulps. The plus on that was that of was the best Moscato I've ever experienced. They went out of their way to get the bottle so that I could take a picture of it when I raved about how great it tasted. I really like the vibe of this place. Everyone is friendly and they treat you like you're a friend visiting their place. As everyone has said, the beer selection is great and they can give you honest recommendations. We were able to get a sample of one to see if we liked it. We ordered the baked brie to start. It comes cooked with brown sugar and pecans. It's served with bread and apple slices. The brie was good, but the bread was sub-par. I would have liked a more crusty and chewy French bread but this was more reminiscent of plain white bread. Though I started off thinking I would order a fork and knife dinner, we were brought the burger menu and couldn't resist! We had The Bruiser and The Sink. The Bruiser is a Cajun burger with cheese and bacon. There wasn't much, if any, Cajun spice so my boyfriend asked for hot sauce. The Sink was a doozie of a burger! First of all, it was perfectly cooked to Medium. (I can't tell you the last time I've gotten a burger that was cooked the way I order!) It comes with cheese, bacon, pickles, tomato, lettuce, banana pepper and is topped off with an over-easy egg. In addition, the kitchen throws in whatever else they might have around. I got some apple slices and a slice of bologna. I don't like bologna, but it wasn't that bad. It would have been great if the bologna was fried but with all of the other ingredients [read: calories], I didn't mind. I only ate half of my burger and didn't have room for dessert. In retrospect, I would have opted to skip the appetizer and try a dessert. Or better yet, I would have finished that awesome burger in one sitting! The private (free) lot is a huge plus, and outdoor seating was great at this time of year. The girl who sat us was super nice and checked on us a couple times during our meal. "Shockingly Great Food in Downtown Lawrenceville!" (film at 11...) Seriously, how can this place have been open over a YEAR and we're just now finding it? Well it's in a somewhat non-descript building (former auto garage) and seems to be a bit overshadowed by nearby Dominicks and McCray's. BUT, the food (and beer) MORE than make up for the (relatively boring) building/location. We initially tried to get a table for an early dinner on Easter evening and encountered a two hour wait (we had our kids AND a hungry 80 year old with us, so had to take a pass), but the Hubster and I finally had a free date night last weekend and decided to try it out. The inside of Local Republic is tiny/tiny/tiny. The hostess tried to seat us at a teensy weensy table (my husband is 6'5").. but we convinced her to give us a spacious table out on the patio. Lovely Srping breeze and sunshine accompanied our tasty craft beers (wish I could remember the names of the beers... Hubster had a stout, and I had a nice, clean wheat ale...tasty!) For our meals, he had the shrimp & grits with a side of spicy collards... and I had the "Mary-had-a-little-lambwich" (PETA folks, you may wish to stop reading at this point...) with a side of cheese grits. Food was SUPERB. My lamb burger was cooked medium, topped with a blue-cheese yogurt sauce and fresh spinach leaves. The cheese grits were creamy, smooth and sublime. Hubster wouldn't even SHARE his shrimp & grits... wanted it all to himself. :) For dessert, we split a Creme Brulee. Once again, excellent. This place is QUITE the gem in Lawrenceville... and a welcome change from all the mediocre chain restaurants that tend to flourish in the burbs. We will definitely be regulars here! read more

I love this restaurant! Local Republic is hands down the best place to eat in Lawrenceville, and in the top 5 best in Gwinnett County. The atmosphere feels just like being in a hip Buckhead restaurant. They have a set menu that is consistently updated depending on the season in order to utilize the freshest vegetables. This set menu is always unique with interesting choices from apps, salads, small plates for sharing, large plates which are the entrees, burgers, and desserts. But every night there will be 3-5 specials and this is where the creativity really comes out. I always order off the specials so make sure to ask about them. As far as drinks go they only have rare and local beers on tap. In bottles they also have a great choice of local stuff. I really enjoy eating here every time I go. read more

Great atmosphere and awesome food! Ordered the Kitchen Sink Burger. Absolutely delicious!

It's a pretty long drive from Atlanta, especially when I can get food just as good within a 15 min drive. Local Republic is 35 mins for me. BUT it's a definite MUST TRY. The food is delicious. They take a lot of dishes and put their own twist on it to create something unique. My fave is the Shrimp and Grits, the sauce is kind of roux based and the grits are so creamy ( not gritty at all). What I do not recommend is The Sink, it's a burger described as whatever the kitchen wants to throw on. When I got it, it was stacked too high. I couldn't eat it even after squishing it down, and had to eat most of the ingredients separately. I like to have a little bit of everything in each bite (the patty, the bun, the cheese). With The Sink, that's not possible. Also, the flavors just did not mesh well together. I was unimpressed. Everything else i've had is great though. Even now i'm craving the gumbo as i'm typing. Service here is great, the staff is very friendly. Food comes out pretty slow though, it's a long wait to get the first entree to our table, and then another 20-25 minutes for everyone at the table to have their food. read more

We were tempted by the delicious smells getting out of the car. The greeter was awesome. Nicole, our server, was well versed on the daily specials, making everything sounding delicious and she made certain to warn my husband about the ghost peppers when he ordered the Patrick Swayze. He soldiered on. When the burger came out, the first bite bit back, but he thoroughly enjoyed his meal and said that he would get it again should we venture this far out of downtown for a meal again. I had the Truck Stop with the bacon mac and cheese. I totally loved the patty melt, but found the bacon in the mac and cheese a bit underdone. I would love to have had crispier bacon to make it a perfect dish. My MIL ordered the chicken breast and said that it was delicious. As usual, I always make it a point to visit the bathrooms. I found them to be clean, well decorated facilities. I was a bit surprised to see what I assumed was an employee's purse hanging on the coat hooks in the bathroom hallway. However, it tells me that the LR serves a rotation of regular customers whom they trust. One note about the patio seating - it is near the road, making the traffic noise a bit loud at times, depending on whether or not a semi is passing through. Ate at Local Republic with a friend on Thu. 01/26/12... Local Republic is run by CIA (Culinary Institute of America) chefs, and focuses on the farm-to-table movement (using fresh, local produce and ingredients from local farmers, farmer's markets, etc.) Food: Olive Tapenade - top notch olives (kalamata? nicoise?) were used here, on perfectly toasted crostini, very flavorful Fish Tacos - THE BOMB... stunningly fresh mahi-mahi was the fish used, sporting hecho a mano tortillas and a spicy remoulade Escargot - this was the one disappointment of the entire meal.... and only because I felt that the sauce could have used a bit more white wine and a touch more salt.... Mussels a la Puerco - a HUGE plate of mussels (plenty for 2-3 people to share as an app), quite tasty Steak Tartar - not ground steak, as most places do it, but finely chopped steak, topped off with a quail egg... solid but not spectacular. In my humble opinion, I think this was lacking in the spice department... i,e.: could have used more garlic, onion, mustard, worchestershire & a dash of tabasco* *full disclosure: as a waiter, having made steak tartar tableside for years, I feel that perhaps I am biased as to how tartar should taste - YMMV Braised Pork Belly - phenomenally flavorful, the jalapeno grits balancing out the lush pork flavors, and nicely done collard greens as well Pub Steak - a dry aged sirloin, seasoned just right, this was served with a giant portion of mash potatoes, along with roasted onions, and a vegetable medley of green beans and carrots... also well executed Root Beer Creme Brulee - ironically enough, compared to everything else we were served, the portion size on this is tiny - it's a desert for one - one spoonful, that is (OK, probably two spoonfuls).... small, but rich and flavorful... classically done, with the Abita root beer flavor coming through in just the right way Chocolate Cake - a GIANT piece - enough for 2-4 people to share, moist and delicate layered cake, good quality chocolate in play Atmosphere: Housed in what appears to be a former garage/filling station... modern look meets Lawrenceville Service: down to earth, yet professional service staff... well informed & able to answer our ton of questions Overall: What a gem this place is for Lawrenceville!! (If Local Republic was located in Buckhead, they would be packed on a 2-hr long wait most nights, and you would be paying double the price!!) The overall food quality (and quantity - you WON'T leave hungry!) was excellent, despite the minor quibbles I had with spices here and there. Just came home from here. Great little place. Across from McCray's. Delicious spinach salad with strawberries. Dressing was delish as well. The gumbo was a fine selection for a cold night like tonight. The beer I chose was a dark one. Starts with a D, long name. They were out the Belgium one I wanted on draft. Pimento on bread thing was ok, we're not pimento lovers but for those who like pimento, you won't be disappointed. We just wanted to try it to see. I had the pork chops and he had the shrimp N grits. Plates were cleaned, let me tell you. For dessert, we got a slice of heavenly peanut butter pie. Generously sliced, it's in the fridge now. I can't wait for breakfast tomorrow to eat it with coffee. We live in Dacula and never think about downtown Lawrenceville as a dinner destination but this place has changed our mind. We had an appetizer of pimento cheese toast which was the best pimento cheese I have ever had. A piece of crustini with a jalapeno, PC and bacon. Yum....Apparently it's fresh made onsite. I had the cheeseburger with a side of bacon mac and cheese. The mac and cheese is home made and outstanding with crispy chunks of bacon and lots of cheese. The burger was thick and cooked perfectly with great flavor. My wife had the pimento cheese burger with pimento cheese grits (yes she likes pimento cheese but THIS pimento cheese is outstanding so she couldn't get enough) If you come here looking for a Bud Light you won't find it because the bar is craft beers and wine only. Some really good choices though even for someone like me that doesn't do heavy or dark beers. It was hot the night we went and sitting outside would have been miserable (although the patio was packed) so we sat inside. Got there about 8pm on a Saturday night and had to wait only about 20 minutes. The service was great and the server was friendly. Can't wait to go back in cooler weather and sit outside. The vibe is very trendy/hipster/retro so don't go in thinking you're going to get linen napkins and fancy silverware cause you'll be disappointed. I also ordered a side of the bacon mac n cheese expecting to be underwhelmed and disappointed in the portion size. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous helping of mac n cheese! And it was cooked perfectly al-dente! This is tough to get right . . . most restaurants miss the mark. Nothing worse than mushy mac n cheese that has the consistency of warm oatmeal. Not the case here. People complaining about the parking "situation" . . . Really? What "situation"? It's downtown Lawrenceville right off the main square for Cripe's sake. What do you expect? Suggestion: If your priority is "easy" parking when you go out to eat, maybe you should stick to the food court at Sugarloaf Mills. As for me, I found a perfect spot on an adjacent street, walked less than 30 seconds around the corner and entered the front door. Easy-peasy. read more

Local Republic used to be good, but I've now had two bad misses in a row. On my last two visits I've received burnt food. Today I got the Thanksgiving-themed lunch special and two items on the plate (biscuit-like bread, and stuffing) were burnt. I sent it back, only to receive one if the items (stuffing) back still burnt, and the other (biscuit) raw. I can understand a bad oven job; I cannot understand it being plated and served to a customer, then re-served after a complaint. Won't go back. read more

The hubs and I took the little here last night, and I definitely like this place enough to return. But that's not to say it was perfect. Here's the rundown: Husband's shrimp and grits - SO yummy! I wish I had gotten this, instead of the . . . Fried Green Tomato sandwich - but I'd have to say it's really not their fault. The bread was the perfect buttery crustiness, and the bacon was well done, but the fried green tomatoes had none of that classic tang. The pimento cheese grits I had for my side needed a little oomph or something, too. But I like the texture/consistency of them. Little man had the bacon mac n' cheese (don't judge - it was a special day for him, and mac and cheese is his fave food in the world! - lol). We all really enjoyed it (bc of course we sampled from his bowl, since we gave him life and all), but again, I thought it could use some "oomph". ("Oomph," frankly, is probably just salt - and they don't have it on the table. They're very confident. LOL) The absolute star of the night was the vanilla bean creme brulee. Little man turned down a taste, which was FINE with us, because holy shit, we just wanted to keep eating it and eating it and eating it. LOL. Oh, and there's also the ambiance, which I LOVED (comfy, casual gastropub), and the servers/hostesses were all very friendly. All in all, we'll definitely be back! I'll be trying something different for my meal, though - I really want to find that "can't live without it" meal HERE, because I like the place so much! read more

Local Republic is my favorite restaurant in all of the Atlanta metro. First, they have a great beer and wine list. Meaning, local, regional, and international beers. Second, the ambiance is so relaxed and modern. Third, I am a person who wishes I could take a pill to get all the calories I need in a day. That being said, I drive 30+ minutes for this amazing food. I havent had anything that didn't make me pause and thank dog (or god, if you are so inclined) silently. Please open similar concept restaurants! Amazing job Local Republic! read more

Hidden gem in downtown Lawrenceville. Very charming and inviting patio. Offers fresh ingredients with seasonal varieties. Has a great wine and craft beer selection as well with tastings on Mondays. I am officially updating my review :) Since they opened in May, my husband and I have become permanent fixtures at Local. They started out with a basic, but delicious menu with a mix of specials and new beers on tap. We are always eager to unwind and relax while looking forward to seeing what they will do next to reel us back in. The staff is knowledgeable about the entire menu, including the wine and beer list. Not familiar with craft beer? Ask them to make a recommendation. The kitchen does an excellent job. The food is always consistent and beautifully cooked. The burger menu contains some of the best burgers I have ever tasted, while the new pork belly with cheddar grits and collards are bound to make your day better. I continue to be impressed with the Chef's creativity and execution with classics. While I love food and would consider myself a foodie, I have a tendency to be very picky about certain things. I trust Local's product and preparation. If it's on the menu, I can always be convinced to try it. Speaking of...try the Escargot! Now that they have rolled out their new fall menu, we feel like we are discovering them all over again. Lawrenceville is incredibly fortunate to have such a wonderful establishment on the square. The Short: Good: GREAT food! Incredibly consistent, outstanding selection of ever rotating craft beer. Bad: As difficult as it may be to believe, I literally cannot think of anything bad. I was nitpicked a little to find a negative in my first review (the cheese plate), but that has been improved since then, so I can't even go there... The Long: I've been wanting to update my original review for a while now, but I wanted to wait until Local Republic either (a) hit their 6 month anniversary or (b) they rolled out their fall menu... Well, the new menu came out on Tuesday, so I here is my update. The menu is expansive enough to have something for everyone, without being overwhelming. There's one dish each of the expected proteins (Chicken, fish, pork and beef), a wide array of sandwiches and a very creative lineup of burgers. Tonight I had the Springer Mountain Airline Chicken Breast, which is served with an outstanding Bacon & blue cheese risotto, garlic spinach and wild mushrooms. The chicken was deliciously prepared, with a nice crispy skin. My wife had braised pork belly, served with collards and jalapeno cheese grits. It too was a delicious, and something not found on many restaurants OTP. The menu also has some very exciting ways to start your meal as well. We were feeling adventurous, so we went for the escargot . As the menu says "Yes, Snails...go for it". Definitely not something you see on many menus, but a great dish. The snails themselves are reminiscent of mushrooms in both their texture and flavor. Tender with an earthy flavor, they're prepared in the traditional manner in a white wine, garlic and butter. Some other new menu items that I'm excited to try in future visits include: fish tacos, Jamaican Shrimp (both starters) and the Mussels, Shrimp and Crab Linguini entree. Now that I've got your mouths watering, I do feel compelled to tell you, in the interest of full disclosure, that I have a borderline obsession with this place. They've been open for about 5 months and I have 26 check ins (and there have been at least a few times when I didn't check in). We go to Local so often because it is incredibly consistent. Chef Scott prepares some amazing food, but he has also trained his kitchen staff, so you can rest assured that no matter who is preparing the food, it will come out exactly the same. The same can be said for the wait staff. We have been served by each of them multiple times and they're all attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. I recognize that this is not so much a review of Local Republic as it is an unashamed love letter, but I can't help it. Try it once and I have no doubt you'll become one of the rapidly growing number of regulars filling the friendly confines of Local Republic. read more

I had the quinoa haloumi salad and hubs had the nashville hot chicken sandwich. I was satisfied with my salad but husband was left slightly disappointed with the lack of sauce in his sandwich. The fries and special sauces were great read more

Our server Jared was awesome. He took time to explain purpose and culture of the restaurant. I don't find this happens often and appreciated understanding the backstory. Ordered the chicken sliders and pimento cheese both were good. I also ordered fish tacos in lettuce wrap and they were messy to eat but tasty. I also ordered a margarita and it was really strong. We drove 45 minutes to try this restaurant hoping that it would be worth it. AND IT WAS! The food is 5 stars! We had the chicken livers, olive tapenade toasts, Patrick Swayze burger, Mr. Jones burger, and the bacon mac 'n cheese. It was all so delicious. The PS is definitely spicy, they aren't kidding! Service was great. Our waitress was super friendly and was always there to refill our waters and bring new beers. Even though it was really busy, she managed to always check on us at the right time. We did have to wait 30 minutes, but they take your phone number and text you when your table is ready. So you can walk around the cute little downtown area while you're waiting. read more
