Steve, Tony and team did a great job replacing my water main line. I have a huge camphor tree that grew around the meter box and damaged the main line. Steve was quick to respond and was ready to negotiate a reasonable deal if you had another quote. We closed the deal same day and the following day, Tony arrived and started the work. They chopped off 15 years of root growth over my main line. Installed one inch copper pipe from meter to house, protected the copper with thick PVC in the root area and plastic sheathing for the rest. I insisted (and provided) root barrier to slow down the tree roots from growing back fast. Done by 2pm. Great job! read more

Same issue as "The Plumbing Guys." Free call out but $285 diagnostic for a plumbing leak in the crawlspace. I called and mentioned the issue was in the crawl space but the guys couldn't review it in depth unless the $285 was paid. I wish they could have told me the fee over the phone so I wouldn't waste their time or mine. They wanted to remove my ceiling to access the leak. I refused the service/diagnostic. Instead, after I got a friend to watch my newborn, I went down and within 15 minutes found it was the fridge water line, turned off water to the line, and cleaned up the water that had come in. It'll probably take me another hour to replace the line (but need to go visit a Home Depot first). Saved myself $285 and a headache of opening a ceiling and then finding a contractor to put it back together. I have a home in Richmond, California and a diagnostic (with crawl space access and accessing 3 different leaks) was free with "Smart Rooter" (3 others quoted under $100 to diagnose). The $285 diagnostic charge is crazy for just looking at the issue. I need to find a regular plumber down here... This business practice feels sketchy to me. The technicians were kind but the owner's business practice makes me realize I won't be doing business with them any time soon. read more

Steve and Duy Nguyen came up our house for fixing the pilot fire problem. The Gas of our house were turned off and PG&E came in to turned gas on, and then re-light the pilot fire of our water heater. But it was just not on. They were professional, nice and response quickly: 1. I called the number on Saturday afternoon, and they were able to come within 2hrs. That released our weary for not getting hot water to shower that night 2. They professionally tackled the issue and lit up the pilot fire again. 3. The service were worth every penny. Noticed water stain on the ceiling right below the bathroom upstairs. Worried about leakage that might have been going on for a while (googling water damages got me all paranoid), so called Duey Saturday morning (the day before Xmas eve!) and he was able to schedule a same-day appointment. Very courteous and informative - after looking through the ceiling hole I made with water running, told me there is no leakage but the bathroom needs better water proofing around the floor. His man Tai (spelling?) arrived thirty minutes early and had the problem resolved in about an hour. He was pleasant, professional and competent. I called them because they did a big work under my house which has a very tight space under the crawling space. They replaced my water connections from galvanized metal to abs plastic. They also replaced my toilet because it does not work as well as it should be. So I called them again to install a filtration system under my sink. I purchased the filtration system from amazon. And also to connect a water connection to the fridge that we just bought. He was so helpful and does not mind extra work. He even help me remove the fridge door in order to fit it because my island is on the way. He also mentioned that the shutoff valve on hot side is leaking so he replaced it for free and he also fixed the fridge that cannot put out water out of it. My hot water had gone out and the water heater had a leak on a Wednesday evening. Andy had been referred to me so I called right away. We recently hired Kim Vo to install a 40 gallon water softener for us. We found him through Yelp and was glad we made the decision to work with him. We wanted the interior and exterior water to be separated so that only the inside of the house gets the soft water and the water outside of the house remains untouched. Kim visually and physically assessed the existing pipes and told us that he suspects the current setup would allow for it. He crawled underneath the crawlspace to make sure his suspicions were correct. Sure enough, he was right. We were fortunate that we didn't have to reconfigure the pipes, which would have increased the costs and the completion time. Kim proceeded with the installation, which includes adding a shutoff value and drain pipe and setting up and configuring the unit. When he was done, I inspected his work and tested the water softener. The installation was fine and everything worked flawlessly. I was really impressed by the quality of his work and the pride he had in it. Overall, we had a great experience working with Kim. We find him to be friendly, professional, trustworthy and reliable. I called Huey late evening and informed him I had a slow water leak from the ceiling. He informed me he could have someone come over after 2:00pm the next day. Since I was very busy at work I didn't have any time to do research on costs or ask for bids from other plumbers. Paul came over and explained what he will do and charge for opening the ceiling ($250.00) and fixing the small copper pipe ($200.00). He took only 47 minutes in total which included the time to open the ceiling in 2 sections (1 section was about 13" x 30" and another section 18" x 24") , find the leak, and then replace the ~24" length copper pipe. This did not include repairing the ceiling drywall. Paul was a nice guy, very clean, and thorough in fixing the copper pipe. Unfortunately, I later found out that my total payment of $450.00 for 47 minutes (including removing 2 small sections of ceiling) was about double what most plumbers charge in California for the same work. read more

Called Local Rooter and Plumbing at 6:30 pm to add a gas value for my dryer so I could have it installed the day after. They sent a technician out and he arrived at 7pm! Put in the valve within 30 minutes. The technician, sadly I don't recall his name, was very fast but thorough! Turned off the gas and made sure once he turned it back on that my gas stove and pilot light on the water heater was lit and working well. Very professional and timely! This will be my go-to plumber from now on! I have a home warranty but the plumbers that they send are VERY unresponsive, taking days to call to schedule an appointment.. I would rather pay for quality, professional work, than wait for anyone else. Update on another project - called them again this am for my shower. My master wasn't getting any hot water and Tai came out within the hour and fixed it so fast! He said the construction worker put the valve on backwards and he fixed it right away, now I have a perfectly hot shower. He is seriously the BEST! He even said if I have any other problems (just bought this house and slowly finding more projects (problems)) to call him and he'd be back to fix it right away. Now THAT is customer service! Wanted $800 to replace a water heater, minus the actual water heater. Wanted $1200+ to replace and provide materials. When my husband called to confirm, the price mysteriously jumped to $850. After we went back and forth on quotes, with these guys and another company (who quoted $250 for labor same day install), we let this guy know - and his response was immediately "low cost, low quality" and then he quickly said he'd no longer be available to do the work, even if we wanted him to. We ended up having the other guys pick up the water heater we bought from Lowe's and install it for $250, same day. These guys are gouging people simply because they can. Telephoned "Rooter Hero" when I had a major plumbing back-up of toilets over flowing, tub and showers filling up - they arrived that morning and did an inspection under the house and pictures of our pipes which of course were plugged. Drilled a hole into a steel gas line and needed fixing fast. To make matters worse, it was in 1 y/o daughter's room and we did not want to have a bunch of sheet rock exposed while she slept in there for too long. I spoke to probably about 10 different plumbers and decided to stick with Duy after he was very responsive and willing to come the next day. Here is a list of things that I really appreciated about him: -did not want to give me an early quote, wanted to first make sure exactly what he was dealing with by seeing it in person -the inspection was free, felt no pressure to hire him for the job -the estimate he gave me was higher than a couple other guys, and he encouraged me to maybe check back in with them to see if they'd be willing to do it for cheaper without any hard feelings. -didn't mind me on the phone with PG&E for about 15 min. as he waited to hear if I was willing to hire him. Very patient. -offered to patch up the sheet rock for us. We probably could have done it ourselves, but given we needed this done fast, it was very generous and helpful -took shoes off when coming in, cleaned up after themselves, careful around the house. This was really really appreciated. Just gave you the impression that they're really good people and are mindful of the customer. Note: This review is in reference to David's work. I normally do not write reviews on yelp but my experience today warrants the effort. I cracked a PVC pipe outside my home last night that connects to anti-siphon valves on the side of the house. Since I do not have a valve to isolate the water to the house from the outside irrigation, I had to shut off the water to the house. This became an immense inconvenience as you can imagine. I left a message with Local Rooter early in the morning and got a call back for a visit around 10AM. David called at 9 and said he could come over. He was very courteous, polite, professional, and clearly knowledgeable. To make a long story not that long, David dug through dirt, cut and measured PVC piping, and wrestled with our irrigation system for hours in the sun. At the end of it all, he shared a lot of inside advice and knowledge with us to ensure we understood the system and how to trouble shoot it in the future. He even stayed and tried to help me with a sprinkler I was having issues with at no extra charge. His cost estimate was 100% spot on when it was all said and done and he was very professional throughout. Very communicative and catering, David wasvphenomenal. So far, the pipes are still going strong and I will not hesitate to recommend him or ask for him by name for our future plumbing needs. Our sewer lines are completely clogged by tree roots and Andy comes within a few hours after call. They first unclog the sewer line so we could use the toilet. After camera inspection inside sewer line, we decided to replace all cast iron pipes which are installed back in 1960. The service is very professional and efficient. A few days before Christmas my sister calls me up saying there is water leaking from the 2nd-floor ceiling on our 3-floor townhome we own. She had turned on the shower in the 3rd-floor bathroom and water was coming out the second-floor ceiling A/C vent. Of course, this was urgent and was happy to find a lot of good reviews for this company and the fast reply. I described the scenario to them over the phone and they would try to find the source of the leak. Well, unfortunately, the person that came over I have to assume was not a professional plumber. Instead of doing a complete inspection of the 3rd-floor shower to find where the water was entering the walls, they proceeded to turn my 2nd-floor ceiling into swiss cheese in their attempt to find the leak which they never found, even after running the shower again to show them it did indeed happen. They took the hardest path of investigation by trying to follow the pipes in the ceiling first, instead of the actual shower. $375 dollars and 5 hours later, no solution but 7 holes in the ceiling that were cut in random places. Called another plumbing company the next day, turns out there was the start of a gap in the caulking on the bathtub valve and when the shower was on, water was getting behind it. Some new caulking and a new shower head later, problem solved by an actual professional plumber who followed proper steps to find the source of the leak. Clearly the person they sent to my townhome was not a real professional plumber and although they may have really tried to find the source leak, they definitely did not go about it the right way. Lesson learned but I feel ripped off by this company because of their lack of plumbing skills, incompetence, and abilities. But if you ever want crazy drywall holes cut into your ceiling for that swiss cheese look, they do a pretty good job here. read more

I have relied on Local Rooter & plumbing for years. My last call to them was for natural gas line pipe leak. This turned out to be a real ordeal and a lot of hard work was done by Alex and Duey. It started when PG&E came to my house and said that they detected a leak. Alex crawled under the house three times and checked all the connections and the joints and could not find a leak. Duey and Alex then put a pressure gauge on the line and verified that it held pressure and that there was no leak. Alex also had to remove the water heater and cut into the wall to verify that the line in the wall did not have any leaks. Our backyard drain down point is too close to the house, after recent heavy storm in bay area, the moisture start to raise beyond the baseline and may cause damage to the house. We called Local rooter and plumbing. They sent David to help. Soon after he start working, the rain started again. David continued working, fix the vertical drain pipe to the wall, add extend pipe all the way out of our backyard, all in the rain, for another 3 hours ! Till it is totally dark. I can't express how much appreciation we have and how professional he is. After all extended piple get installed, we need to wait till connector dry so we can glue the connector properly. 2 days later, rain finally stopped. David passed by and get the rest of job done. He handle all the details perfectly! the extended pipe is raised a little higher as I requested so the water can come out more smoothly, the part outside backyard is long enough to make sure water stay away from fence. I went down the line and contacted plumbers on Yelp who had lots of good reviews. I contacted at least 5-6 and didn't get a call back from any of them or was told that they could not come out for a couple of days. Local Rooter was the only one who actually returned my call promptly and sent to someone to get the job done right. Loi Thai not only fixed the problem but also identified an exterior pipe that had the potential to burst. There was no scare tactic used or high pressure sales but honest consultation and feedback. I was so happy with the service that I contacted them again to replace a toilet. They were able to send out David who did a great job. These guys are professional, hard working and straight forward.
