Excellent work. 2+h of work for 2 people hustling. Hired him for rerouting a gas line for an apartment. Remove gas wall furnace, convert electric ranges to gas ranges saves on load calc allowing installation of split air hvac systems. Do the drawings using roomsketcher and file a building permit. A full service plumbing company which does the drawings and files the permit for you is 3x more; they have to charge the same hourly rate for the paperwork which includes driving time, drawing time, permit approval time, time for multiple inspections. The building department requires a rough and final inspection. Tip: Turn off the gas meter with a 15in crescent wrench for 20$ from harbor freight. Add a pressure test valve and pump, call inspector for pressure test. Order new gas range from costco 1-3k. Going to hire him for all plumbing jobs from now on. Intempus stole 70k in rents, security deposits and deposits. Was stuck. read more

I needed our incoming water pressure to be sitting at a standard 60-80 psi, but turns out my pressure control valve had completely failed without me knowing. I went to trusty Yelp to get some quotes for the job, and Trieu was the only one who responded quickly and decisively with an actual number. Everyone else wanted a "consultation" or tried sending me to their website to fill out forms and schedule this and that. No time for that! Trieu actually showed up earlier than committed and changed out the valve efficiently and effectively. Here is the best part: I originally thought my main shutoff valve was malfunctioning too, so I had included that in the original quote request. When Trieu arrived, he actually tested the shutoff valve, demonstrated to me that it was working perfectly fine, and convinced me that it wasn't worth replacing. He took it right off the quote! What a refreshing, honest approach to business. I honestly cannot remember the last time a vendor "downsold" me on a job instead of trying to upscale me. Beyond his great business ethics and efficiency, I also observed that he took great care in his work, treating it like a true craftsman. Overall, I'm very happy with the job and with Handy Rooter. I do NOT recommend this plumber Trieu and his business Handy Rooter & Plumbing. I hired this plumber to fix a leaking toilet. In my initial Yelp request, I explicitly stated that there was water at the base AND the tank was overfilled. Trieu arrived on Friday, noticed the toilet was slightly loose, and stated it was likely a bad wax ring ($150). Once he pulled the toilet out, he pointed out that the flange underneath was corroded and recommended replacing it for an additional $200. I trusted his professional judgment so I agreed and paid him $350 total. I was generally happy with the quick response, showing up on time, and quick work. That exact same night, I heard dripping. I checked and found water pooling directly under the tank. I had to shut the water valve off to prevent more water damage to my floor. I called and texted him the next morning, but got no response until 4 PM, and he couldn't come back out for a few days. When he showed up today, he barely looked before saying "I don't see a leak, where is it?" Obviously, I had the water turned off for three days so my bathroom wouldn't flood, which is why it wasn't actively dripping. He then kept flushing the toilet repeatedly so the tank never actually filled up enough to replicate the leak. Then he started pushing on the tank and it was moving, and he claimed the toilet was just old. Keep in mind at this point, he still hasn't replicated the leak and is still making claims. Instead of admitting he completely missed the actual source of the leak the first time, he gave me this ridiculous analogy that "If you go to the doctor for a stomach ache, and he fixes it, you can't blame him if your tooth hurts the next day." I tried to tell him a real analogy would be like going to a dentist for bleeding gums and he recommends replacing a loose crown, which DOES fix a problem but doesn't solve the bleeding gums (original problem). A professional's job is to accurately diagnose the actual problem, not just swap out parts and leave the customer with the exact same issue. He refused to fix the mistake unless I paid him an additional $195 to replace the fill valve, and then he walked out. He left me with the exact same issue, a leaking toilet, after already paying $350. I highly recommend avoiding this business, because he is unprofessional and incompetent. read more

A large water leak occurred in front of my water meter in early March. I called Handy Rooter and Plumbing. Trieu came by, looked at the leak and gave me a very reasonable quote. Trieu and his partner then dug in front of the water meter and showed me that the PVC house line had popped out of a PVC fitting connected to the water meter. Trieu explained that the PVC line was not perfectly aligned to the water meter and he found evidence that the PVC line had popped out before and repaired in the past. Instead of simply replacing the PVC fitting and regluing the PVC pipe, Trieu replaced two feet of PVC line with solid copper because he did not want the problem to happen again in a few years. I could see that Trieu takes pride in doing the best work possible which is rare. Handy Rooter and Plumbing has my highest recommendation. read more

I had a previous plumber, Sam, come at look why my sink water was backing up and draining extremely slowly. This 1st plumber was recommended on Nextdoor. Now, looking back from the same person. So never know if it was a relative. Sam came by looked at main and snaked from under the kitchen sink, then told me the problem was bigger. Since we have cast iron pipes (1961 house) we probably needed a partial repiping. I mentioned that 4 years back a plumber (I couldn't recall anymore) had gotten onto roof and from that access unclogged the problem. He said he did not get onto roofs. I contacted Trieu of Handy Rooter to confirm if I may need a partial re-piping. Trieu got onto the roof, ran a snake and the the drain was unclogged. This clog was affecting my laundry pipe as well as kitchen pipe. Trieu ran my clothes washer to make sure that water would drain properly. All was good. He said wait and see. He said not to consider a repiping as yet. If issue occurred within months or a year, then maybe consider taking care of problem (that had occurred in the past) in a permanent way, or just unclog again.
