It was of course before a Giants game and after being ignored completely at another nearby bar that wasnt busy AT ALL, i thought to try my luck and was able to grab a stool and get served super quickly by a beautiful brunette behind the bar who was so sweet to every single person she waited on. The crowd was even pretty nice. I didn't try the food but my neighbors the bar said that they had burgers and fries and that they were great. It was Tuesday Taco Night so why not go for it. But I must say, the five dollars a pop per street taco seemed a bit much once I saw it wasn't much bigger than the little silver dollar sized ones, which they usually sell in threes at other typical taco nights. I ordered a steak taco and the chicken taco, and both of these were unfortunately pretty nondescript and dry. The three dollar can of Modelo was nice, though, for Happy Hour, which was 4 PM to 7 PM on nights when the Giants are not in town. Also had the Philly Cheesesteak, which was soft and tender, but I couldn't get over their unique spin on it with the melt of pepper jack cheese, making it quite spicy and overwhelming the flavor of the steak. The bartender, who also did double duty as the server, was tremendous though and earns Local Tap my four stars. He noticed I was still recovering from a knee injury, so he actually brought out the menu and took my order, so I didn't have to hobble over to the bar to do it. He also had a great, deferential attitude and was pleasantly persistent in making sure we had everything we needed. It's obviously a Giants water hole, being just a few blocks down from Oracle Park. But being here instead to watch the Warriors season opener, in which they satisfyingly knocked off the Lakers, it was surprising to see quite a few other Dubs fans, who were whooping it up with us at the big screens. Because we were in SOMA, there was actually a sizable group of tech bros and sis's who were just there to revel in that they were now done with coding. Local Tap is smallish for a sports bar, but they also have a pretty big parklet outside where there're actually some big screens hooked up on the walls, so you can sports bar outdoors as well. Wow! Can't believe I have yet to review this place. All I have to say is two words - Cheese curds!!!. We'll, actually three - fried cheese curds!! This is a wisconsin bar and one of the only places in Sf where I've found amazingly good and authentic cheese curds like you can get in upper midwest , YUMMY! I've been here before plenty of giants game as well as to watch many of football games and even a liverpool fc champions league final. Always a great time. Definitely recommend. Came here after SF MOMA for some chill food and really enjoyed the warm "local pub" vibes with friendly and easy service. They have 21 beers on tap including a golden state cider (my go-to pub drink). There were soooo many screens with the sound on one of them that we had a hard time figuring out which one the sound was on for, but eventually we did and it was nice to have so many places with the game and even hockey was playing (my personal fav). This is absolutely the best spot to be before a giants game! We always come into the city early so we can stop by local tap. First off the prices are extremely reasonable, especially compared to the surrounding area. Besides the killer prices this spot always has a happy and upbeat vibe. Local Tap was a nice find near the CalTrain Station. They offer a wide array of beers and delicious cocktails. The Sparkling Cherry Lemonade was very refreshing and strong. The bartender definitely knows how to make good drinks that's worth the price. The food menu offers a great selection of bar food. The meatballs come with four pieces that are very flavorful and go well with the marinara sauce. The slices of bread that accompany it are also a great touch. The cheese curds are fried just right and go well with beers. The atmosphere is very relaxed and is a great place to watch games on their massive screens. Who doesn't love a fresh beer on tap, good nachos, and great service? We enjoyed a freshly poured pliny the elder and cider on their outdoor patio - the parklets are set up nicely with heat lamps and spaced out tables, all servers wear masks and there's hand sanitizer to use by the door. The nachos with added chicken (great suggestion from our server) was bomb, perfect combo of nacho cheese, jalapeños and avocado on homemade chips. Without a doubt one of the best bars in San Francisco. Before Covid they were my go-to to cater our company happy hour food and their service is top notch. Not only did we order great catering through them, the owners make it a breeze to reserve space for events at the bar itself and make sure you will have the most memorable, fun time making great memories with the people you care about. Smelly, bar was filthy, and tables covered with dirty dishes even though the place was basically empty besides a few customers at the bar. Could have been the staff I guess...Bartender was super drunk, and if not, aggressive to say the least....and harassing customers. When pouring a glass of wine I ordered he said "I don't know how long this bottle has been open so hopefully it's still good." My group of friends met up here before heading out to the Giants game, which was perfect because it's only a block away. When I arrived at 6:15pm, the place was beyond packed that you could hardly walk through. Even though we thought about leaving to another place, we ended up snatching a stool at the bar and eventually soon got ourselves 4 stools between the five of us. The food was pretty solid too with the wings full of sauce and the fries nicely crispy and topped.
