Want a delicious Gyro, this is the place to go. The owner is so sweet and kind. She's always so upbeat and her customer service is top tier. I keep coming back because the food here is delicious. I usually order the #1, which is a beef and lamb gyro with light onions, and a side of fries. I pay about $15. I'm usually not a fan of these, but I love that they have the kiosk where you can order from if it's too busy in there and it absolutely gets busy during lunchtime. I don't use it much because I love talking to the owner, but the option is nice. The restaurant is very small, but it has a beautiful mural of Greece on both sides of the wall. I love that. You can dine in or do you like most people and take to go. I love it here as this is one of my go-to spots for lunch. read more

Lovely little spot in FiDi, while the usual meal in the area can rack up to $20 quickly, Locali has one of the cheapest, yet still delicious food options in the area. I ordered the beef shawarma and it was delicious and flavorful. Personally found it better than Souvla, a popular destination in the city, although it was definitely not the best I've ever had either. Please do not support this place, Tania, the female owner/manager verbally harasses and dehumanizes the workers. Instead, you can visit Sababa, Oasis Grill, or Barcha in the surrounding area. However, if you choose to support this place, I invite you to listen and closely observe the manager and worker interactions around peak lunchtime. I came to this restaurant around 12 pm on a weekday about a month ago and was immediately greeted with the most grotesque and dehumanizing attitude by Tania, female owner/manager towards the staff. Her verbal harassment and mannerisms were not only imposing, they were very micromanaged and flat-out disrespectful. I observed that the workers were very afraid of making a mistake which made them feel incompetent. Within the five minutes that I was waiting for my order, I observed that as a worker prepared the food, the manager/owner stood right behind him pointing out his every move from what he did wrong to immediately yelling at him in an agitated tone to "correct him." The female manager/owner also yelled at this worker because he did not know where to place the food. Lastly, she was visibly agitated when he forgot to call my name for my order. I was immediately shocked that a person could treat another in such a horrid way. I felt very uncomfortable waiting for my order as I observed this horrible treatment. This business SERIOUSLY NEEDS SOME CHANGES in their management and ownership and needs city inspection. It makes me sad to see a manager/owner treat workers so poorly to the point that they feel INCOMPETENT. It was appalling. I wouldn't be surprised if the owner/manager threatens the workers, withholds payments, and/or doesn't pay the workers the hours that she should. I hope the workers know that this working environment is not healthy and report it to the city and/or a working rights labor union. To Tania: Please change your ways, change your attitude, and change your management style immediately. Workers have rights and they deserve to be treated RESPECTFULLY. Small hole in the wall in FiDi. We ordered the beef and lamb shawarma and Greek gyro salad. The nice man taking my order asked if I wanted any of them spicy so I did for the salad. It came with hot sauce in addition to the salad dressing and tzatziki (I think) sauce. Salad came with pita, meat, olives, tomatoes, red onions etc. My shawarma had lots of meat in it, could taste the hummus but I wish there was more veggies in it. It seemed like it wasn't full inside the wrap itself. Seems popular as a lot of people were there. Service was great but portions and flavor were just average. Still it's a convenient spot for a quick grab and go lunch. Side note: maybe I should've ordered my shawarma to Greek style (add fries in it) or Locali style (add pickles and feta in it) to give it that special kick. Will try it next time! read more

Pretty good food. However, the portions are kinda small and they need to work on the presentation a bit. I ordered a gyro plate, which came with a side salad, hummus, and warm pita bread. I was dismayed by the tiny portion of salad compared to the unusually large portion of hummus that was served with my meal. The gyro meat was delicious, but I was hoping for a slightly larger portion. I didn't think this meal would be filling, but fortunately it sufficed. This is one of the best value lunch spots in FiDi, and one of the few places where you could still get lunch under $10 (as of May 2024). I got a lamb/beef gyro with a side of a Greek salad. The pita was fresh and fluffy and the meat was well-seasoned. It seemed to be pretty busy with the lunch rush inside, but I ordered ahead via UberEats pickup. The employees were very friendly and the service seemed to move quickly. There was a bit of a confusing situation where I placed two pickup orders due to someone else at my office wanting food as well, but the employees handled this extremely well, giving me an estimate for when the second order would be ready and handling it all with a smile. Careful! You might miss it! Locali Mediterranean is a tall, skinny, small resturant tucked between two larger buildings. Firstly, It's rare for this Yelper to venture into a shawarma or gyro joint willingly. I have a strong bias against the way shawarma/gyro meat feels like it's drenched in fat or extremely dry and lacking in seasoning! Distasteful. I didn't even know Locali existed, and I've been working just a block away from it for the past year. It's closer to me than my old standby, the Oasis Grill (review: http://bit.ly/124nPFL), and frankly I like Locali better. It's just a shoebox of a place but seems hidden from view, which may explain why I rarely run into a long line here (photo: http://bit.ly/14OZtlm). The young guy at the cashier, and there are a couple of different ones, is always friendly even if it feels a bit on auto-pilot. The overhead chalkboard menu offers plenty of breakfast and lunchtime options with bagels and sandwiches galore, but my eye always zeroes in on the gyros (photo: http://bit.ly/14SyLrz). There are five choices: a standard gyros, a chicken version, the super-size upgrades of both, and for vegheads, a falafel in a pita. They range from $6.30 to $7.31, so prices are really reasonable to grab and go, which I've done several times. I'm a huge fan of the pita bread here. It was very soft and oh so fluffy. I got the falafel pita wrap. I was a fan of the portion--perfect for a grab and go lunch. I ordered through Allset and was very pleased with how quickly they made my order. Customer service was great and the cashier offered me extra hot sauce. As for the food, I didn't think the wrap was special. It wasn't bad, but it seemed to be drowned in too much hummus. Also, the fillings only consisted of falafel, lettuce, hummus, and tomato. They were very generous in the number of falafels given. I'm just looking for a little more wow factor with toppings. Like maybe some feta here, some French fries there, some cucumbers everywhere haha. Hey I liked it! I love Mediterranean food and when I saw that Med Café was a joke a doubled back to this little hole in the wall. When I walked in it looked kinda smokey, but I think it was all the businessmen in suit evaporating in this unusually warm summer day. I got the basic gyro with all meats. Good gyros and falafels at a reasonable price with super-friendly service. In addition to being flavorful, the gyros are well constructed and less messy to eat than most. I worked at the One Front Street building for almost two years and never thought to stop by Locali for lunch. This little place is conveniently located just outside the entrance to the building parking garage, but I guess I was always looking to venture out further from the nest for midday grub. When I gave my two weeks notice in mid-February, I decided to enjoy the remainder of my time in the Financial District by going to a bunch of new (to me) places for lunch. Have you ever heard of the "sandwich method of feedback"? Or, according to one blogger, the "pat on the back-sucker punch-pat on the back" approach? Seating-wise, you'll find six bar stools lined against a raised counter area to the right when you walk in, and three more bar stools and a raised counter near the window to your left. Two raised tables for two are near the left wall, and there are two lower tables for two in the middle of the floor. Let's just say that Nia Vardalos of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" fame could definitely not bring her fictional family there. The woman at the cash register gave me one of the warmest greetings I have ever received... and I work in HR. Seriously, I'm writing this review a good two months after eating at this place and I can still recall being caught off-guard by her charming "Hi!" I honestly feel like the people tasked with composing the menu item names and descriptions could have saved themselves the trouble on my item and just wrote "SALT!!!"
