I need to start off by saying, my first encounter to this restaurant was literally on a whim with my girl cousin staycation and we were all craving Mediterranean style cuisine. More of a cozy feel especially when eating with family. Guys, the food just makes me melt. Since there were 5 of us, we decided to do everything family style and ordered a heap of dishes. The first would be The Parthenon Platter I believe is what it was called. A mix of a variety of their appetizers inclusive of Tzatziki, Humnus, Dolmathes, Melitzanosalata, Pantzaria, Fasolakia and I think one more item. Second dish Octapodaki, OhEmGEeeee!! Amazingly tender and delicious! My favorite octopus dish so far in the bay. Kalamarakia, omg, the flavor and breading and tenderness also. Also the doll aioli just tops it off in the best way possible! Steak Souvlaki, not my top rated, but still worth trying. Nothing is too ring but I wanted everything else but pure protein. lol. Stopped by my favorite Greek spot, Parthenon, for lunch today... and OMG! The lamb shank absolutely blew me away! So juicy and incredibly tender I also had the hummus (completely forgot to take a photo ) and honestly, I could eat it every single day. It's the best in town! I went here for a fancy meze experience with my wife. I'll start with what I liked: the service and wine were excellent. Great selection of wines from the Mediterranean for sure. The atmosphere was also well done. The meze unfortunately were disappointing. The fried feta was cold inside, the smelt was okay but small portion for the price, the muscles were okay but had the same problem, the dolmas were good. If this were a cheaper place I'd give it 5 stars but for the pricing I was expecting more. We ordered only mezze plates and a flight of the white wine. The wine was very good and we enjoyed tasting the different Greek wines. We also ordered the dolmas, mussels, ravasaki, and fried smelt. The mussels were quite good. The dolmas seemed more of a Turkish style of dolmas rather than traditional Greek. I just prefer the Greek style, so was not prepared for the Turkish take when trying them. It was a rather sweet and not a savory flavor. The fried smelt was fine, nothing about it stood out really though. The ravaski was cold in the middle and there wasn't that much of the apricot chutney on top. Tried this place for lunch on a Sunday. We had reservation and were party of 6. We went there after a cake decorating class and had our bento cake boxes with us. They did not have any issue with that. Even offered to keep it aside so that we don't have to worry about space at our table For food we ordered a variety of things. We sat at the bar since it was a little busy. We were lucky to have the owner and multiple servers at our fingertips since it's a high traffic area. Our pita bread basket never went empty and the food came out promptly. We had the mydia and they were top notch. We also had the lamb chops which were pleasant. Very high-quality food at a reasonable price. While recovering from a virus, I needed something healthy to eat so I got the chickpea sandwich with a side salad. It was absolutely excellent very fresh. Very tasty and just what I needed. Very pleasant young woman handed it to me when I arrived. What an amazing experience over all! Everything about it was special. First we were greeted by the owner Cem who kindly and quickly got us a table ready which was amazing as a walk in of 7 on a Friday night. The vibe of the restaurant was beautiful so clean too and homey. Keenan was our server and the best thing about him was he did his job so well didn't over serve but nailed every standard of hospitality service on the head. The foood woowwww! We ordered $600+ of takeout from The Parthenon for my grandpas 85th birthday and could not have been more disappointed. We placed our order at 3:30 for a 5:45 pickup. We arrived to pick up our food 20 minutes early and everything was sitting on the counter, already ready. We drove the 10 minutes to our place, then opened everything up and to our horror, everything was cold, soggy, and gross. I actually can't believe this cost $600. We emailed management to rectify this and have not heard anything back, which is equally disappointing. Reviews online said this is the best Greek food in SF - ABSOLUTELY not. I would literally never come back here, even if it was free. The only explanation I can think of is that they made our order 2 hours early when we initially placed it, which is not only bad customer service but actually not safe food safety wise and would get them a health violation. All of this and the food was so bad. The meat and chicken were all somehow overcooked and dry like jerky but also colder than room temperature. The fries were soggy and undercooked. The mushroom and chicken Alfredo was perfection--the sauce was rich and on point, the chicken was tender and cooked just right, with a good amount of mushrooms that complemented the dish well. Before we caught a show downtown, we wanted to try The Parthenon for dinner. Yelp led us here since we rarely eat in this area. Upon entering this restaurant, there's a middle aisle to walk down towards their bar, but no host to greet patrons at the door. So we stood there for a minute making sure that was indeed the front door. I almost went back outside to make sure there wasn't another entrance. But someone noticed us and took us to a table, despite not having a reservation. The place was filling up too! It was busy for a Thursday evening! ***OUR PICKS*** PITA BREAD ~ This was complimentary. Soft pita bread with what tasted like puréed tomatoes and seasoning. Almost like salsa. MELITZANOSALATA ~ eggplant, tomato sauce, garlic, onion. This was a cold appetizer. Not quite what I had envisioned. I was expecting more of a dip, but this was big chunks of eggplant in tomato sauce. It tasted just as it was described without any surprises. 3/5 ROKA SALAD ~ Arugula, beets, goat cheese, fennel, pomegranate molasses. Sweet tasting salad because of the pomegranate molasses as a dressing. I think the feta cheese could have been broken down to smaller pieces. It overpowered the arugula. Maybe some pecan nuts would have offset the cheese. 3/5 SEAFOOD PASTA ~ Pappardelle, clams, mussels, prawns, salmon, octopus, fennel, shallots, garlic, ouzo. Good mix of seafood, though there wasn't much pappardelle. It was flavorful, but portions were small. 3.5/5 LAMB SOUVLAKI ~ lamb skewers, vegetables, tzatziki. You get 8 cubes of lamb, broccoli, beans, carrots, and a large potato wedge with creamy, yet a bit too salty, tzatziki. I asked for medium rare and it came purple, so they cooked it longer and it turned out medium to well done. The lamb was good, though it was more tender when it was purple. Tasty dish, but I found the tzatziki was overly salted. If I hadn't asked for medium rare, it probably would have been better. 3.5/5 In my opinion, the food was about 3.5 stars, nothing extraordinary. Maybe we didn't order the right dishes or we had high expectations. Service was attentive and friendly. The dining room was very loud and it echoed where you can't hold a conversation without straining to hear. I'm not usually in the Tendernob in late morning unless I'm coming out of 450 Sutter for any variety of medical appointments. Yes, I'm at that age, my children. Anyway, I certainly wasn't expecting to find a sit-down Greek restaurant with reasonable lunch prices. Well, it depends on what you order, but hey, here we are. Surprisingly it wasn't saturated with suits and middle-aged matrons, and I was seated comfortably next to the front window. I wasn't looking for a plate-smashing feast though they offered mezes mostly in the $14-$17 range and more substantial plates in the $24-$38 range. I was feeling modest though admittedly ordered a soup and sammie combo which was more than I could handle. I first went with the $10 bowl of Avgolemono, as traditional a Greek lemon soup as I've had. It was a generous serving with chicken, rice, yogurt, egg, and plenty of lemon (Photo 10). The lemon was a squeeze more than I could handle, and truth be told, I left quite a bit despite the fresh flavors. I had better luck with the $15 Lamb & Beef Gyro Ssndwich where I wisely chose the side salad over the fries. The pita was pillowy with the beef and lamb gyros slathered in tzatziki and festooned in cucumber slices, grape tomatoes, and white onion. The veggies were replicated in the side salad along with shredded lettuce (Photo 9). Delicious. Service was great. Quiet music, not noisy. Good location from our hotel. Food was good with nice portions. It was a Greek restaurant-had moussaka and avgolemona soup. The soup was tasty. For the sauce and meat I could not taste cinnamon or nutmeg or clove or spices. The meat tasted like hamburger. The sauce was bland and had tomatoes. There was some eggplant in the dish. Keeping here on a work trip with my coworkers for dinner my boss picked this place and we all love Greek food so it was a hit before we even came. Our table wasn't quite ready. We honestly only had to wait like five minutes as they pushed a couple of tables together, which was not a problem at all and in that short way, they started making us cocktails. A dirty martinis might go to and I wasn't expecting a phenomenal one here. I don't know why, but it was really delicious. Three out of the four of us kept ordering them. The inside is really cute and the weight staff was really great. All of the food was phenomenal. I think I had pomegranate beef kebabs. We shared some hummus and some Saganaki too. I would give 5/5 for the service for this place - no matter which waiter was in charge of your table, people kept coming and filling our water and taking away plates and wine glasses as things finished. The filo was light and crispy - the saltiness of the cheese and the sweetness of the apricot jam hit the spot. The prawns were ok - and the lamb riblets had too much fat and not enough meat on them. The quantity of the food and price of the dishes was on the expensive side - but I guess it's SF, so go in with that mindset. We just went for appetizers and drinks. We had something we didn't order come to our table and one entree missing. We had on entree come out so early waiting so long for everything else you can just tell communication between the staff is a work in progress. However they were always apologetic with the errors and remade the dish that came out early so that it would be more fresh to enjoy. But again I'm not knocking them - with a new spot it's going to take TIME. As for the food it was all delicious and very fresh ingredients. Me and my friend each ordered a cocktail and both were well balanced with flavor and the liquor. For the food we also got the zucchini cakes that were deep fried, they were delicious but i think could have been fried a little longer to better hold their shape. And i ordered the manti. Manti maybe is just not the dish for me since it's a serious overload of yogurt combined with the pasta but overall enjoyable. My friend ordered the greek feta pasta and it was absolutely delicious with the smell alone leaving your tastebuds craving more. Overall was a great meal and the inside decor was for sure executed well by someone who knows what makes a resteraunt "cool and trendy." Stopped by the Parthenon for some Mediterranean eats. It was incredibly busy, but we grabbed seats at the bar and were able to order without much trouble. The food was not exceptional by any means. Service was quite slow, which is understandable given how busy it was. However, what isn't understandable, is a server doubling their tip under the assumption the cardholder won't notice. I had already left a 20% tip despite the slow service and mediocre food; I shouldn't be surprised checking my statement. As a Yelp Elite member, I take reviews seriously and don't leave negative feedback unless it's absolutely warranted. Unfortunately, not only did this experience cross the line but it's frankly illegal. I recommend dining somewhere that treats customers honestly, not here. read more

We visited Parthenon on a Saturday night after an event on Nob Hill. It was an easy 10 minute walk from the Top of Nob Hill and our table for 8 was ready and waiting when we arrived. We were promptly greeted by the staff and immediately asked if we wanted drinks and given menus. They had a small but nice selection of beers on tap and in the bottle, a cocktail menu, and a nice selection of wines. We shared four appetizers among the table based upon our servers recommendations. Everything came out quickly and was delicious! The space can get a little loud but we were still able to hear each other. I'd say the space was warm and friendly and good for a date night as well as a nice group outing. Our favorite appetizers were the saganaki and the ravasaki and the Greek salad. The hummus is amazing and the pita bread was so fresh! The main dishes were great too. I loved the souvlaki dishes and I have to say that the tzatziki sauce was the best I have ever had hands down. I was surprised to see an entire pasta section on the menu! I was visiting the Grace Cathedral for a light show and looked for a restaurant nearby and found Parthenon, which has really good ratings. Sadly, we did not have a great experience.
