Tried this place for lunch on a Sunday. We had reservation and were party of 6. We went there after a cake decorating class and had our bento cake boxes with us. They did not have any issue with that. Even offered to keep it aside so that we don't have to worry about space at our table For food we ordered a variety of things. Both vegetarian and non vegetarian. Roka Salad : really good but a bit less sweet would have been better Ravasaki : good one and a must try Chicken Souvlaki Pita Sandwich : chicken was well cooked and rest of the filling was with usual tomatoes and cucumbers with tzatziki dressing Makaronia : for vegetarians, this was a good option and also if you are avoiding cheesy pastas Lavraki : a must try if you like sea bass Their cocktails are good and pretty strong. We ordered $600+ of takeout from The Parthenon for my grandpas 85th birthday and could not have been more disappointed. We placed our order at 3:30 for a 5:45 pickup. We arrived to pick up our food 20 minutes early and everything was sitting on the counter, already ready. We drove the 10 minutes to our place, then opened everything up and to our horror, everything was cold, soggy, and gross. I actually can't believe this cost $600. We emailed management to rectify this and have not heard anything back, which is equally disappointing. Reviews online said this is the best Greek food in SF - ABSOLUTELY not. I would literally never come back here, even if it was free. The only explanation I can think of is that they made our order 2 hours early when we initially placed it, which is not only bad customer service but actually not safe food safety wise and would get them a health violation. All of this and the food was so bad. The meat and chicken were all somehow overcooked and dry like jerky but also colder than room temperature. The fries were soggy and undercooked. Very good Greek place in the Union Square! They can get pretty full even on a weekday so def do a reservation, if you can. I got the octopus to start with and it was a bit too sour for me. We sat at the bar since it was a little busy. We were lucky to have the owner and multiple servers at our fingertips since it's a high traffic area. Our pita bread basket never went empty and the food came out promptly. We had the mydia and they were top notch. We also had the lamb chops which were pleasant. Lastly, we had the beef souvlaki which was nice as well. I'd say mussels then lamb chop then in terms of taste, although my partner liked the lamb chop better than the mussels. What an amazing experience over all! Everything about it was special. First we were greeted by the owner Cem who kindly and quickly got us a table ready which was amazing as a walk in of 7 on a Friday night. The vibe of the restaurant was beautiful so clean too and homey. Keenan was our server and the best thing about him was he did his job so well didn't over serve but nailed every standard of hospitality service on the head. The foood woowwww! The burger was out of this world for someone who doesn't like burgers. The pomegranate souvlaki too was out of this world and would be my necessity try! Finally the steak was tasty the pastas too all cooked to perfection. Food was crisp clean and presented well not greasy or overly buttered. My husband and I ordered from The Parthenon and everything was absolutely delicious. The mushroom and chicken Alfredo was perfection--the sauce was rich and on point, the chicken was tender and cooked just right, with a good amount of mushrooms that complemented the dish well. We also had the lamb, which was incredibly tender and full of flavor, and the pita bread on the side was the perfect touch. Such a satisfying, comforting meal all around. Definitely coming back soon! Before we caught a show downtown, we wanted to try The Parthenon for dinner. Yelp led us here since we rarely eat in this area. Upon entering this restaurant, there's a middle aisle to walk down towards their bar, but no host to greet patrons at the door. So we stood there for a minute making sure that was indeed the front door. I almost went back outside to make sure there wasn't another entrance. But someone noticed us and took us to a table, despite not having a reservation. The place was filling up too! It was busy for a Thursday evening! ***OUR PICKS*** PITA BREAD ~ This was complimentary. Soft pita bread with what tasted like puréed tomatoes and seasoning. Almost like salsa. MELITZANOSALATA ~ eggplant, tomato sauce, garlic, onion. This was a cold appetizer. Not quite what I had envisioned. I was expecting more of a dip, but this was big chunks of eggplant in tomato sauce. It tasted just as it was described without any surprises. 3/5 ROKA SALAD ~ Arugula, beets, goat cheese, fennel, pomegranate molasses. Sweet tasting salad because of the pomegranate molasses as a dressing. I think the feta cheese could have been broken down to smaller pieces. It overpowered the arugula. Maybe some pecan nuts would have offset the cheese. 3/5 SEAFOOD PASTA ~ Pappardelle, clams, mussels, prawns, salmon, octopus, fennel, shallots, garlic, ouzo. Good mix of seafood, though there wasn't much pappardelle. It was flavorful, but portions were small. 3.5/5 LAMB SOUVLAKI ~ lamb skewers, vegetables, tzatziki. You get 8 cubes of lamb, broccoli, beans, carrots, and a large potato wedge with creamy, yet a bit too salty, tzatziki. I asked for medium rare and it came purple, so they cooked it longer and it turned out medium to well done. The lamb was good, though it was more tender when it was purple. Tasty dish, but I found the tzatziki was overly salted. If I hadn't asked for medium rare, it probably would have been better. 3.5/5 In my opinion, the food was about 3.5 stars, nothing extraordinary. Maybe we didn't order the right dishes or we had high expectations. Service was attentive and friendly. The dining room was very loud and it echoed where you can't hold a conversation without straining to hear. Luckily this restaurant is right near the Westin where I was staying. It's a cute restaurant with some Greek decor. Comfy seating and great service. My waitress Alina seemed like she was always smiling and it made for a very positive experience. Plus the chicken Souvlaki plate was delicious! The chicken was so tender and nicely seasoned. I'm not usually in the Tendernob in late morning unless I'm coming out of 450 Sutter for any variety of medical appointments. Yes, I'm at that age, my children. Anyway, I certainly wasn't expecting to find a sit-down Greek restaurant with reasonable lunch prices. Well, it depends on what you order, but hey, here we are. Surprisingly it wasn't saturated with suits and middle-aged matrons, and I was seated comfortably next to the front window. I wasn't looking for a plate-smashing feast though they offered mezes mostly in the $14-$17 range and more substantial plates in the $24-$38 range. I was feeling modest though admittedly ordered a soup and sammie combo which was more than I could handle. I first went with the $10 bowl of Avgolemono, as traditional a Greek lemon soup as I've had. It was a generous serving with chicken, rice, yogurt, egg, and plenty of lemon (Photo 10). The lemon was a squeeze more than I could handle, and truth be told, I left quite a bit despite the fresh flavors. I had better luck with the $15 Lamb & Beef Gyro Ssndwich where I wisely chose the side salad over the fries. The pita was pillowy with the beef and lamb gyros slathered in tzatziki and festooned in cucumber slices, grape tomatoes, and white onion. The veggies were replicated in the side salad along with shredded lettuce (Photo 9). Delicious. We were headed to a different restaurant but as we walked past the ambiance pulled us in to try the food and boy am I glad! I started with the rice and chicken soup. It came piping hot and was enough for the two of us to share. For the entree, I ordered the moussaka and my husband ordered the seafood pasta. Both were well presented and generously portioned. Keeping here on a work trip with my coworkers for dinner my boss picked this place and we all love Greek food so it was a hit before we even came. Our table wasn't quite ready. We honestly only had to wait like five minutes as they pushed a couple of tables together, which was not a problem at all and in that short way, they started making us cocktails. A dirty martinis might go to and I wasn't expecting a phenomenal one here. I don't know why, but it was really delicious. Three out of the four of us kept ordering them. The inside is really cute and the weight staff was really great. All of the food was phenomenal. I think I had pomegranate beef kebabs. We shared some hummus and some Saganaki too. I would give 5/5 for the service for this place - no matter which waiter was in charge of your table, people kept coming and filling our water and taking away plates and wine glasses as things finished. Best service I have seen at any restaurant in a while - very attentive and friendly. The vibe was very nice - amazing looking place - with lights and mirrors, they have done a great job! The wine flights and selection of wines was vast. The cocktail with guava and chili was super yum!! I loved the octopus and the cheese with filo dough was the best! The filo was light and crispy - the saltiness of the cheese and the sweetness of the apricot jam hit the spot. The prawns were ok - and the lamb riblets had too much fat and not enough meat on them. The quantity of the food and price of the dishes was on the expensive side - but I guess it's SF, so go in with that mindset. We just went for appetizers and drinks. A group of friends and I came for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. When we arrived the restaurant was pretty empty with only one other table. We were greeted & sat at our table right away. A few of my friends tried their cocktails which they enjoyed. I had the Greek iced coffee which I loved. We started with a bunch of appetizers including the hummus, tzatziki (both came with pita), feta and olives, dolmathes, & spanokapita. My favorite was the fresh baked & still warm pita with the hummus & tzatziki! The texture and flavor of the hummus was perfect. I usually really love dolmathes, but these had cinnamon which I didn't particularly care for. For my entree I had the steak souvlaki, the steak was tender & flavorful. Me and a close friend craved some Mediterranean food and when seeing this spot was excited to check it out. As a newly established place you can see where improvements need to be made however the food and atmosphere still left me very happy with my meal! Starting off on what needs improvement is the overall service/communication between the servers. They were all so kind and amazing! However they were a bit all over the place. We had something we didn't order come to our table and one entree missing. We had on entree come out so early waiting so long for everything else you can just tell communication between the staff is a work in progress. However they were always apologetic with the errors and remade the dish that came out early so that it would be more fresh to enjoy. But again I'm not knocking them - with a new spot it's going to take TIME. As for the food it was all delicious and very fresh ingredients. Me and my friend each ordered a cocktail and both were well balanced with flavor and the liquor. For the food we also got the zucchini cakes that were deep fried, they were delicious but i think could have been fried a little longer to better hold their shape. And i ordered the manti. Manti maybe is just not the dish for me since it's a serious overload of yogurt combined with the pasta but overall enjoyable. My friend ordered the greek feta pasta and it was absolutely delicious with the smell alone leaving your tastebuds craving more. Overall was a great meal and the inside decor was for sure executed well by someone who knows what makes a resteraunt "cool and trendy." The food was so delicious! Our favorite was the grilled fish, perfectly seasons, crispy skin, every bite left us wanting more. The appetizer sampler is not on the menu but would definitely recommend to ask for it to try small portions of everything. We were a bit confused as to why the pita bread came with a salsa like dip but it wasn't off putting. The octopus was also very good, wished the portion was bigger. Stopped by the Parthenon for some Mediterranean eats. It was incredibly busy, but we grabbed seats at the bar and were able to order without much trouble. The food was not exceptional by any means. Service was quite slow, which is understandable given how busy it was. However, what isn't understandable, is a server doubling their tip under the assumption the cardholder won't notice. I had already left a 20% tip despite the slow service and mediocre food; I shouldn't be surprised checking my statement. As a Yelp Elite member, I take reviews seriously and don't leave negative feedback unless it's absolutely warranted. Unfortunately, not only did this experience cross the line but it's frankly illegal. I recommend dining somewhere that treats customers honestly, not here. read more

We visited Parthenon on a Saturday night after an event on Nob Hill. It was an easy 10 minute walk from the Top of Nob Hill and our table for 8 was ready and waiting when we arrived. We were promptly greeted by the staff and immediately asked if we wanted drinks and given menus. They had a small but nice selection of beers on tap and in the bottle, a cocktail menu, and a nice selection of wines. We shared four appetizers among the table based upon our servers recommendations. Everything came out quickly and was delicious! The space can get a little loud but we were still able to hear each other. I'd say the space was warm and friendly and good for a date night as well as a nice group outing. Our favorite appetizers were the saganaki and the ravasaki and the Greek salad. The hummus is amazing and the pita bread was so fresh! The main dishes were great too. I loved the souvlaki dishes and I have to say that the tzatziki sauce was the best I have ever had hands down. I was surprised to see an entire pasta section on the menu! Ordered a moussaka for lunch ($36 after tax/tip). It's rich and comforting without becoming greasy, heavy, or mushy. Overall nice balance of flavors and textures, with an excellent béchamel sauce that really stood out. I just wish there had been a bit more eggplant in the dish. Also, the dish was a bit too salty for my palette. Unfortunately, it wasn't heated evenly throughout, though I didn't feel like sending it back to the kitchen. That said, the service was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the setting was lovely and comfortable overall. read more

We had an absolutely delightful meal at the Parthenon. The food was fresh and tasty and a wonderful bargain for what you get, both in quantity and quality. We both took home enough food, after dining in, for lunch at home the next day. The Greek salad was especially nice, fresh and perfectly dressed with yummy cherry tomatoes instead of unripe tomato slabs. My friend had a large, soft, lamb shank with lots of baked garlic over buttery rice. I had the lamb souvlaki which came with a variety of perfectly steamed vegetables. I can't say that I recommend Greek wine however, as I am used to California or New Zealand wines. We shared a baklava for dessert and it was perfect. Two stars for the wait staff. I generally prefer to resolve concerns directly with a business before posting a public review, which is why I'm disappointed to be writing this. Four of us recently dined at The Parthenon. Later that evening, my partner became very ill and was up most of the night, forcing us to cancel our plans the following day. She was the only person in our group who ordered and ate the Greek salad, while the rest of us ate different items and did not experience any issues. To be clear, I cannot say with certainty what caused her illness. However, because she was the only person who ate the Greek salad and the only person who became sick, I felt it was important to notify the restaurant so they could review the matter. Over a week ago, I sent an email directly to The Parthenon describing what happened. I did not ask for anything other than acknowledgment and an opportunity for the restaurant to investigate and respond. To date, I have not received any reply or even a confirmation that my message was received. What disappoints me most is not necessarily the illness itself, as these situations can be difficult to determine with certainty. It's the complete lack of response to a customer who took the time to reach out privately regarding a potential food safety concern. Had the restaurant simply acknowledged the email and addressed the concern, I likely would not be posting this review. I hope management will take customer concerns and foodborne illness more seriously in the future. read more

Fine Greek experience with good service but mediocre food. The food was disappointing. Pita bread was just meh and the dip they provided was more like a salsa that didn't suit it well. The hummus and tzatziki were fine but nothing special. The seafood pasta was overpriced with a lot of mussels, a couple clams, and a few shrimp but surprisingly little pasta. It was decent but nothing that would bring me back. We had a reservation for 16 people and they had our table ready and well set. The dim lighting was nice without being too dark, and the small space meant it didn't get terribly loud. Service was really good, attentive and friendly with food coming out quickly and hot. Had dinner here last night and absolutely loved it. The Parthenon is perfectly located near Union Square, easy to get to and great for a date night. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. We started with a few mezze dishes which were all on point, and the highlight of the night for me was the saganaki, served flaming at the table. Such a fun moment and delicious too. What really made the night special was the hospitality. The owner came over to our table and had us pick a random envelope. I opened mine and got a free drink, and my girlfriend won a free dessert. A small touch, but it made the experience feel personal and memorable. Great food, warm service, and a fun vibe. Looks like we will definitely be back for our next date night. read more

However, the restaurant was extremely dark and could really use candles on the tables--you could barely read the menu, and some candlelight would help create a better atmosphere. The servers were all attractive, but unfortunately they came across as unfriendly and rarely smiled. I was in a hurry to catch a flight and let them know we needed to order quickly, but our server mixed up the order and forgot to put in the appetizer. The crunchy outside and the hot soft zucchini inside was amazing. As my main dish I ordered the lamb chops and garlic fries and it was absolutely perfect.
