    Combo Over Rice
    Adam B.

I was fan of eating at halal carts in NYC way before bougie food trucks were a thing. I'm so happy they've made their way to San Francisco to help break the sandwich and salad monotony in the FiDi. I miss the extra meat option here, but the combo portion will still fill you up. There just won't be any leftovers for a second meal. Combo Over Rice: The chicken is so tender, like the pulled chicken analog of pulled pork. Also, nicely spiced. The lamb is like gyro bits seared on the griddle, yielding a nice crispy contrast to the chicken. The rice is surprisingly fluffy, it's almost like no grains stick together. Not a fan of the "salad" since I don't like iceberg lettuce; just wastes container space in my opinion. Love the creamy white sauce and the fact that you can squeeze on as much as you like. The optional hot sauce has a pretty good kick and complements the richness of the meats.

Addictive as always. And oh so yummy! Opens at 10:30AM but I was there at 11AM with zero wait. Cool beans! The hot sauce will make you sweat bullets, feel light headed and dizzy... BUT... it's worth it.

SUMMARY: Average halal food, quick, matter-of-fact service. FOOD Having had some really great halal food in NYC thanks to my wife being a local there, it's hard not to notice that the Halal Cart's food is not as flavorful as what you can get in most places in NYC. The biggest difference I've found w/ the Halal Cart is the lack of spices on their lamb. It seems that the HC folks like to favor their white and red sauces instead. Nothing wrong with that if you like that, but for me, I like to pick off a few pieces of meat to try if its good or not and lay off the sauce or use the sauce to accent it. I'm not so keen on drowning food in sauce like some people prefer. I've had their rice plate and their wrap w/ lamb both times. The rice is meh but their wrap (bread) was pretty fresh and doughy. Nice flavor and texture. I've not tried the chicken, but that'll be on my next visit. That said, in a pinch, this is not a bad place to get food. It's quick, about a dollar or two more affordable than places in the area, and close enough to the waterfront to enjoy your food with some ocean air.

Discovered this place today and loved the experience! The food is tasty, great portions, healthy and a variety of sides, it's also about 9-11 dollars based on what you get, so not pricy for the location! Give it a try if you want a quick, tasty and healthy lunch without paying $$$.

Some sandwiches come with lots of meats and some are saucy and some get cheesy like some in SF. There are some famous and historical places to grab sandwiches in North Beach like Molinari and Freddie's. There is also a place on Columbus Avenue by Joe DiMaggio playground park on which has a French name and serves up some of San Francisco finest sandwiches and it's called" Le Sandwich ". On a Winter season stroll in the beginning of 2026 , I landed at Le Sandwich. This place has lots of sandwiches available made by Chef Elias. I decided to try their Primo ( means Prime in Italian) sandwich. I have to say this is one of the tastiest sandwiches I had in San Francisco. It had meats which were tender such as Genoa Salami, coppa, and ham. It's has melting provolone which made it cheesy like some in SF. They also have FikaLove which is baked goods available like chocolate croissants and cinnamon buns for Fika( Swedish for Coffee break). San Francisco is the place where you can get international foods without the" jet lag" by a park close by were as a kid I use play "tag"and the sandwiches are so big they stick out the " paper bag "and inside has of lots decor from international countries including the "USA flag". Grab a Chef Elias at Le Sandwich tasty sandwiches he will "make" get Fika desserts like some in SF that "flake" Fika in Swedish means when you "take "afternoon "coffee break "

I am always open to having local based pizzerias to enjoy a good pizza pie. Hearing about this place having three restaurants across San Francisco made it sound like a chainstore pizza joint like Pizza Butt( I mean Pizza Hut). I have tried this place before and it's local to San Francisco and I wanted to give it a whirl in person. On a Spring stroll down Lombard and Van Ness where the hotel and motel signs are over mile deep I wanted to try an American favorite which are pizza pies. Pizza pies have become more American than apple pies these days . I went inside Chico's and tried their pepperoni and sausage before Good Friday approaches. The pizza slice was kind of cheesy like some in SF and it had pepperoni and sausage but not too saucy . The dough was pretty doughy but flakey like some in SF. It reminded me of some old school style of San Francisco pizza which is good paired with a case of beer. It is nice to eat inside when wind is heavy. Service is fast and efficient--they are used to dealing with crowds. We were here for World Cup and glad they had a couple of big TVs with games playing. We started with some Blue Moon drafts--only $5 and just perfect. We both ordered the clam chowder bowls and an order of garlic fries. The chowder was excellent and you cannot beat a good sourdough bowl. I added bacon which i HIGHLY recommend. The fries were a nice surprise, clearly fresh and with great flavor. We were both pleased. We ordered the crab chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl. The bread was stale, dry, and hard, making it difficult to enjoy. On top of that, the chowder itself wasn't even hot, it was barely warm. For a chowder restaurant, this was really surprising and disappointing. We let our waitress know about our concerns, and her response was simply that she would let the chef know. There wasn't much acknowledgment beyond that, which made the experience even more underwhelming. Overall, we left disappointed and wouldn't recommend this place based on our experience.
