I love Souvla and normally dine-in or order pickup from the Divis and Hayes Valley locations. I dined here once at the end of last year, and it was fine. I am writing this because this location is a complete scam when it comes to delivery. The previous 2 nights when I ordered delivery my order was routed here. The first night I noticed the portion size for my chicken salad appeared to be ~20% off. The second night, I weighed the also-seemingly-under-portioned salad at 314g (net food weight accounting for the 49g box) and there was a measly 2.7oz (77g) of chicken, whereas a standard serving of chicken is 4oz. Well, tonight I decided to walk to Hayes Valley and order the same salad to go: 440g (net food weight), with 3.8oz (108g) of chicken. THAT IS A 40% DIFFERENCE IN FOOD BY WEIGHT. Amazingly, the protein portion was also 40% more in the salad I picked up in Hayes Valley tonight. Also, both times I ordered delivery, the box was not sealed and the bag was not stapled, so there was no way to be sure my food hadn't been tampered with. Never again. read more

Beautiful and cozy outpost of this SF fast casual staple! Souvla has always been a favorite, with its outstanding salads, pitas, and frozen yogurt. My go-to is their vegetarian salad, which is absolutely loaded with tons of fresh greens, cheese, olives, nuts, and roasted white sweet potato. You can also get any salad Greek style and add a solid helping of fries on top for just $1 -- a great choice if you don't want to have an entire side of fries but still want something crispy. The salads are pretty big, so they can often be multiple meals (or one meal and a snack), especially if you get them with fries :). This location is especially fun -- I love how wide and open the space is, especially with their super high ceilings. The overall vibe is almost industrial chic, but they also have this really fun tree encased in glass in the center of their back wall. Within two minutes, the order was ready to go -- impressive. While the fries were delicious -- crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the salad was extremely disappointing. I have never had lamb overcooked to this degree. It was drier than any chicken breast, turkey, or jerky and was almost inedible. It wouldn't surprise me if the cubes of meat had been sitting around of hours in a heating tray, and then overcooked when reheated. As I'm re-reading my review from my first visit, I see that dry proteins is a clear pattern. For that reason, I would avoid both the lamb salad and the chicken salad and only come here for the fries. After living in the City for a while, I finally decided to try the hyped Souvla that everyone's raving about. I came here around 6PM and the place was bustling, but we still found a place to spot to sit and enjoy a quick meal. You go in and order at a kiosk with a person, like a coffee shop, before getting a number and seating yourself. You then wait for someone to bring your food over. I ordered a Lamb salad and Chicken salad. The lamb had that gamey flavor if you're looking for it, while the chicken is more tame. Both were pretty good for the price, and my wife and I both felt full afterwards even with the lack of carbs. They give a good amount of meat, and the vegetables tasted very fresh. There were some fruits in the chicken salad which was a nice surprise. Food came out within 10 min, and the overall vibe is like an upscale nick the greek. This establishment is fairly priced and with the smaller menu, makes it pretty easy to pick what you want. I have yet to try their frozen yogurt, but I've heard it's also really good. Scene: 2 p.m. on a Thursday, a sunny day in Dogpatch I saw there is a Souvla. Wow, is that new? I saw a line at the entrance, and asked a man if it were new. He wasn't sure, but remarked that the photo on the wall is the same as the one in Hayes Valley. The interior exhibits industrial elegance, with beautiful light fixtures. There were a few groups finishing lunch. After a partly disappointing lunch nearby, I wanted a treat. What better than their Greek yogurt? Yes, Greek yogurt is ubiquitous in grocery stores, with many brands. It is healthy for you so maybe not interesting to some. It is no longer a novelty. However, when it first appeared on the menu at Souvla, I was impressed. Its smoothness with the addition of olive oil and sea salt is great. What a good idea to combine these flavors! Now we have olive oil ice cream, but when Souvla first opened, its frozen Greek yogurt was (and still is) a great concept. I will return for one of my favorite desserts. Our group of four were in the area around 12:15pm on a Tuesday and were looking for a place for lunch. After checking out the menus of several places, we came upon Souvla. The restaurant had a good crowd and there was line to order. After checking out the menu, we decided to get lunch here. Menu is simple with three meat and one veggie pita sandwiches, which could be made as a salad as well, sides, a salad and a soup, beverages and Greek yogurt. You place your order at the counter and find a seat and your order is brought out to you. A server brought a carafe of water and glasses to our table. Our food came out within five minutes. I had the Vande Rose Farms Pork Shoulder pita sandwich, which had spit-fired pork, minted Greek yogurt, cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices and feta cheese. It was very tasty as all the ingredients complemented the pork. I would get this again. Friends had the Lamb leg pita and the Firebird all-natural chicken pita and they enjoyed their sandwiches. By 12:30, the restaurant was about half-empty as the lunch crowd headed back to work. Workers were friendly and with the delicious food, I would be back if in the area. read more

When I eat out, I don't really like paying for vegetables. I'm just not big on greens. Souvla's chicken salad is the only salad I actually crave. It's so balanced and hearty - the crunchy fennel, well-seasoned and tender chicken, richness of the bit of cheese, the sweetness from the oranges, and acid from the pickled onions. I couldn't decide between the salad or the sandwich so I thought by getting a side of pita I could also make a sandwich however, when I got home, I realized that the pita is actually slices of pita in triangles. Saw this place all over social media and had to try the frozen yogurt! This location is super nice, clean, and has a great ambiance at night. Not to mention, the service was definitely the best. I have seen this place but only until yesterday I realized they sell soft serve, it was nice out, perfect for something cold. I ordered the cherry topping which I really enjoyed, I think it had the perfect balance of sweetness without being overpowering which I think it's the issue with many regular ice creams, I just wish they had sizes, because it's a one size fits all and I couldn't finished it all, it's very fulfilling. This space is HUGE and beautifully decorated, with high ceilings and lots of light. Mediterranean touches are seen everywhere. There are bar seating and high top tables (the high tops aren't very comfortable for us petite folks however) in a large open dining room. Washrooms are accessible, nice and clean as well. You order at the front counter, than find a table and sit with your order number and food is brought to you. Service is minimal, but the space is comfortable enough and food hits the spot - so you overlook that. I tried the lamb sandwich and side salad. Both were decent portioned. Ingredients were fresh and tasty. The lamb could've been a little bit more moist, but I was happy with the flavour. Would return to try other items! The restaurant itself has a very breezy Mediterranean, feel, with doors open and an adjoining patio with lots of seating. It's a nice location for lunch.
