Chicken Shawarma Rice Bowl ($14), Beef Kebab Wrap ($16), 3 pc Falafel ($4), Fries ($4), Sauces: Toum, Zhoug, Shata (50 cents each)

Who remembers "$40 a day" on the Food Network? Rachel Ray would travel to different cities and have a budget of $40 for three meals. I know inflation but these days, $40 in touristy Union Square will get you one pancake dusted with gold flakes...after tax, tip, dine-in fee, zero footprint fee, cc fee, etc. J/k. Not really. Fanoos Grill is one of the few wallet-friendly places in Union Square where you can get a meal and a drink for under $20. And, it's right across from Pacific Cocktail Haven which is how we ended up here. Mainly takeout but there's several stools and a ledge to eat at. M E N U Middle Eastern/Mediterranean wraps, salads, and rice bowls ($14-$16). Choice of falafel, chicken shawarma, or beef kebab. F O O D * Chicken Shawarma Rice Bowl w/ mixed veggies, sumac onion, pickled cabbage, tahini tarator sauce, pomegranate sauce ($14) Generous portion of seasoned basmati rice with decently tender chicken shawarma (pulled from a steam tray) and fresh cabbage+onion slaw. The tahini sauce didn't have much flavor and the pomegranate sauce was missing so the bowl was on the bland side. * Beef Kebab Wrap w/ garlic paste, mixed veggies, sumac onion, pickled cabbage, tahini tarator sauce, and pomegranate sauce ($16) My fav of the two, the beef kabob (like adana/koobideh) was cooked to order, beefy and juicy inside a griddled lavash wrap with the same fixings as the rice bowl. The pomegranate sauce was also missing from the wrap. * Falafel (3 pc-$4) Hot and crunchy but kinda dry. * Fries ($4) Can't go wrong with diner-style fries. * Sauces (50 cents each) I love condiments and I don't mind paying for them if they're good. I found the sauces too Americanized. - Toum: Not potent...IMO, even TJ's toum is more garlicky and intense. - Shata: Mild chili sauce. - Yemeni (zhoug): Herbaceous, not spicy at all. S E R V I C E We were the only ones there and food took about 15 minutes. Overall, if you're in the Union Square area and looking for wallet-friendly grub, Fanoos Grill is a decent option.

If you come here during lunch, expect a line. My friend and I met here after her dentist appointment nearby. I Bay Wheels biked here--there's quite a few bike docking stations nearby and I also saw some bikes on the bike rack outside! We ordered on a tablet. I got the chicken shawarma salad and my friend got a wrap with no chicken because she's vegan. Shortly after we ordered, the restaurant filled up! It was packed. People were waiting for a while! There's limited bar seating that we snagged by the window, and then some people ate and stood outside on the other side of the bar through the window. The salad was good. Plenty of chicken which was tender and bursted with flavor. I liked the olives and accoutrements. Sauce is extra but I'm curious to try it. There was only 1 guy working there and then when we left there was another guy. Good service. We both took half of our meals to-go. Prices seemed steep but then the portion size helped make up for it. I will certainly be back!

Union square is packed with nice restaurants, a Jack N The Box, and some other crappy restaurants....but if you want something affordable, fresh, and delicious, come to Fanoo's! It's a Hole In The Wall, but a very clean modern hole in the wall...just a few stools for seating. The $14 Chicken Wrap is long and thick, fresh, and delicious...just like how I like my men. If you just want a light lunch, this is shareable with two people. The sauces are flavorful and vibrant...so good!

Normally I don't post bad reviews when I do it's because it is. I got the Chone plate even with extra sauce the chicken and the rice were so dry. The pickled veggies weren't pickled at all. I walk everyday on my way to work and i finally gave it try. But I was highly disappointed and believe me i love chicken shawarma. But it sucks to say I've had better in chico California and for specially being a big city. Maybe they were just off but I'll try them again. I wouldn't completely ruled them out but it was so disappointing that I had to write an review

This spot instantly brought Hubs and me back to our favorite Lebanese wrap place in Paris. Like that beloved shop, this one is small and unassuming but packed with flavor. We ordered the Chicken Shawarma Wrap and the Kebab Wrap. Both were bursting with flavor. My favorite was the chicken. I highly recommend getting the sauces on the side, especially the Shata and Thoom. They elevated the wraps to a whole new level. The service was warm and friendly, and it was clear the staff take pride in what they do. Hubs and I will definitely be coming back!

Late-night food that actually delivers. We stopped in around 10:45 pm and ordered a falafel wrap and a beef wrap. The falafel was the standout -- they use the traditional Egyptian/Moroccan fava bean falafel, not the chickpea version most places serve. I usually don't like falafel because it's often the Greek-style chickpea version, so this was a huge win and tasted authentic and flavorful. The owners were friendly, kind, and helpful. We also ordered fries plus one baklava and one Turkish delight -- all fresh and satisfying. There's no dedicated parking (street parking only) and only a small space if you want to eat inside. We took everything back to our hotel, and it was still hot and delicious when we opened it. If you want authentic falafel and a quick, satisfying late-night bite, this place hits the mark.

Solid middle eastern style fast casual place in the union square area for a quick salad bowl or wrap. Prices were fair and portions were good and the place was small and clean. I got a chicken shawarma style salad and my only complaint was that they pre shaved the chicken and it was sitting in a warmer but it was pretty overcooked and dried out. The sauces helped but for me the attraction of this sort of meal is the moist and juicy nature of the sliced/shaved meat ! A solid quick casual meal for $16.

Absolutely delicious food at a great value. We ordered the Build Your Perfect Meal Box, and it easily fed both of us. The chicken bowl was exceptional. It was richly flavored and perfectly cooked, and the vegetables complemented it beautifully. I especially loved the variety of dipping sauces included: hummus, garlic, and a spicy option. Each one was excellent and added even more depth to the meal. The service matched the quality of the food. The staff member was incredibly friendly, and our order was prepared quickly. While there is some charming window seating inside, it's limited to just four seats, so it may be more comfortable to grab your food and enjoy it elsewhere.

Delicious decently seized shawarma! Definitely coming back again during my short stay in San Fran. The place is small, very nicely decorated. Ideal for a quick bite or take away. The service is fast and the guys are super friendly. Come check this place out!

Ordered a chicken bowl through DoorDash - not sure if I was upgraded or got the wrong order- but ended up with the box. Definitely a pleasant surprised and a great deal! The food was great and tasted fresh. Definitely would order again.

We're regulars, and we usually go on Sunday evenings after my girlfriend gets off work. Falafel wrap and chicken shawarma are our usual order -- the falafel has that crisp-shell, tender-middle thing going, and the wraps are generously built. We've branched out plenty and everything we've tried has been good. The other reason we keep showing up is the people. Turna usually takes our order, and she is genuinely lovely -- friendly in a way that isn't a customer-service script. My girlfriend and I always walk out in a better mood than we walked in with, which is worth a lot. We were quoted a 70 minute wait time on a Sunday night. When our name finally came up we were offered a tiny table inside (outside table sidewalks are where you want to be, more room, good people watching) that could have fit two fine but was going to be a squeeze for 3 adults. We opted to wait for a bigger table/outside spot. Once you get a table then you have to go inside and wait in line to order. The space is small so expect to get bumped from every direction. The person behind the register was obviously stressed out and could not have been less friendly or less helpful. I asked for a glass of cabernet and she just said, we don't have it and stared at me. I asked if she could suggest another option and she did but it was a struggle. All of the workers seemed miserable. No one smiled, everyone seemed overworked and it was so hard to flag someone down if say your steak came out entirely raw, which mine did. It seems like the workers are either not getting the training or the support that they need to allow the overall experience to be good as the food.
