Let me start by saying I appreciate all kinds of pizza, from classic to creative. The other day, before catching a movie nearby, I stopped into Locals with a craving for pepperoni pizza. And I'm really glad I did. From the moment we walked in, the service was on point; friendly, prompt, and genuinely welcoming. We were greeted right away, got our drinks sorted, and placed our pizza order without any wait. We went with a classic pepperoni pizza, with extra pepperoni for good measure. The menu offers a wide range of beers on tap, with plenty of great local and regional options to choose from. Our pizza came out quickly, and it looked every bit as good as it tasted. The cheese was perfectly melted and just the right amount, rich and flavorful without being heavy. The pepperoni was spot on. Slightly crisped at the edges, which added that extra layer of flavor that makes all the difference. The crust hit the sweet spot: light and airy inside, crisp on the outside, and with a nice depth of flavor. The atmosphere is laid-back and full of local charm, with pieces of Alaskana history on the walls and plenty of natural light streaming in through the windows. It's comfortable and unpretentious--exactly the kind of place you want in your regular rotation. Locals may fly under the radar, but it shouldn't. I seriously wish we had a much better experience here than we did last night. I really wanted to like this place but it was just one thing after another, which sucks because we order their pizza through DoorDash all the time (we're still going to do that ONLY). Where to begin... As soon as we walked in, sure they were friendly-ish. We were seated after the three groups that came after us were ( seriously wtf)..we only had 3 in our group and the restaurant was empty. Also, reservations weren't in play here on all sides, so no reason to be cast aside. Whatever! Service: our waitress was nice but everything seriously dragged on forever...waiting for drinks..waiting for apps...waiting for food. It seriously doesn't help that we clearly could see half the staff just hanging out Bs'ing and acting ridiculously unprofessional. Also, some menu items were "not available"...southwestern egg rolls..forget about it (NY accent). It was stupid at this point but whatever. Food and drink: The old fashion DID NOT taste like an old fashion. Whatever..this isn't bar rescue..The drink was tolerable and I slammed it..yeah I did make a side comment about it tasting weird but that was that. The crown and Coke my husband ordered tasted like water down Jack and Coke...he actually sent that back and had it remade. My son had sweat tea, can't really go wrong there. Beer was cold. I liked the many selections. The fried pickle chips were tasty, we actually couldn't stop eating it and was pretty sad when it was gone. I ordered the side salad instead of the fried stuff (fries, onion rings, tots) I know..I'm a monster..Let's just say..aging forces you to make crappy decisions. Anyways, it was good..veggies were crispy and plentiful. Made me full, I was content. Husband and son ordered pizzas and it was good!! Like I mentioned before, ordering their pizzas through DoorDash was our forte..soo yup..yummy points there. Ok now here's we're it gets weird...I am 95% sure that I ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger but I got the bacon burger. I say this because I'm a person of habit and mushroom burger is my go-to burger. Don't get me wrong..I love bacon..but it just threw me off. At this point, I didn't send it back because honestly..the way that the staff was behaving..and us sending shhh back (which by the way..we barely do or even complain really..we're passive people and hate being a bother..I know..we're those) Anyhoo...the movie "waiting" kept replaying in my head and for those of you who have seen it..you catch my drift! So hell no I am not sending it back, I'll just shut up and eat it. Which, by the way..it was actually pretty good. Overall..we will not be back. Was super happy when we were done eating and ready to go home. We will not recommend this place ever. I am honestly surprised it is still open. Not a fan. We came in after a day of riding. We were really hungry and exhausted, usually that combination means anything you eat will be good. Unfortunately that was not the case at this establishment. We were told to pick any table we wanted. Our mistake, the only table we sat besr was 5 loud drunk people at 4pm. We had the garlic bites as an appetizer. It seemed they just cooked some bread and added garlic at the very end. It was pretty bland. We had a medium pizza and it was nothing to talk about. The dough tasted like it was under cooked. I didn't even want to take the majority of the leftover pizza home. We needed up boxing it up and gave the toppings to the dogs. Service was pretty horrible for such an empty place. I just had a water, when the pizza came my water was empty and instead of refilling it. I was asked "so did you want more water" Anyways. Just ordered the bone in chicken wings and must say very disappointed. It tasted fine but the size of the wings, I've never seen such tiny wings ever. I would be embarrassed to serve these to anyone. I tried really hard to understand the negative reviews, but I couldn't. I guess we only eat here once a month so my opinion might not be valid. Let's start: Take and bake pizza, amazing! Now, I'm not sure if they still offer this but if they do it's miles above the other take and bake place. Pizza- I haven't had one that was under cooked or over cooked yet, unless we ask anyways. ( we have one child that likes a well done bacon and pineapple pizza). To be fair no one in the valley makes a traditional style pizza, and I would be willing to argue that. All I can say is the place next door makes a soggy pizza, the place over by subway makes dough that could pass as Hawaiian sweet bread, and chain pizza belongs in the trash. All said, it's middle of the road pizza and worth the money. The restaurant is old but it's generally clean and the staff has always been friendly. The beer has always been cold, and the appetizers haven't sucked. I think if you are complaining about the garlic knots lacking flavor, you should check your sodium intake. They also probably are not painted with a salted, butter substitute, msg filled liquid. Wings- Way better than the wing place down the road. Not bad, not the best, but good with beer. If wings is all you are after, the place to go is across from Three bears! Burgers- They are ok, nothing to write home about but better than the place that "smashes". If you want a burger that is a 10, go to the place next to Holiday. If not these are just fine for the price. read more

Saturday night. We went to Evangelo's up the road and they said it would be a 40 min wait. So we went up the road to Locals. No hostess when we show up. Another party of four was in front of us and they hadn't seen a hostess yet either. We finally got seated. We got our beverages in a timely manner. Waitress took our order and appetizer order. We were told by the waitress that the appetizers would come out fast. We had a one year old and a diabetic in our party so we wanted to make sure they got something in a hurry. Well after a significant wait most of our dinner order came out with our appetizers. One of our party never got his meal. We told them to keep it after an hour. We asked for the manager and he came right over and was very pleasant and accommodating. The waitress barely came over to check on our beverages. Most likely won't be coming back. We ordered Chicken BQQ sliders, 20 wings for $24, garlic knots and a Jalapeño Burger. Oh and a pitcher for $20. Knots were not knots. They were chunks of dough with zero flavor, even though they had plenty of garlic. Sliders came out second, gross. Then a year later we got the wings and they were cooked to perfection. My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch and wasn't disappointed. The staff quickly sat us and took our drink order. We shared the nachos (not an appetizer, but we had it as one). You have an option of ground beef, pulled pork or chicken, we had chicken. We cleaned the plate, it was soooo good. We also ordered a Husky pizza and ate half. The cheese was so stringy, sauce was amazing and the crust light and fluffy. It's been awhile since I had a hot pizza, that I had to blow on it so I can hurry up and take a bite. My mouth struggled between bites waiting for the slice to cool. The waiter boxed the rest our pizza up for us. The entire staff made this experience awesome. I give this place three stars for it's pizza and five for service. Lots of space for families, casual, Open booth seating, decent beer selection, fair prices and really friendly / attentive service. Despite the negative reviews my wife and I decided to stop in for lunch. We were greeted by a nice bartender who gave us waters. We were hesitant about getting the pizza because of the reviews but, we decided to get one to share and some boneless wings. Our waters were constantly being refilled and we were always checked on. After a short wait our food arrived at our table the pizza was delicious and cheesy. My wife loved it. The crust was buttery, garlicky, and crisp. I would definitely recommend. My wings were good and crisp. The dry rub added the perfect amount of flavor. Overall we were greeted with wonderful, fast service and delicious food. I would not trust all the bad reviews. Menu is ok, but pizza heavy Food Quality is marginal. Most of the entrees taste and look like oversized lean cuisines. Food is very overpriced. Diner grade entrees at Bistro prices. Service sucks. Long wait times, no table follow up like keeping the drinks full, etc. and frequent incorrect orders. This place shouldn't feature their wings like they do, the wings here are pretty bad. The don't fry them, they buy frozen precooked wings, thaw and warm them, then heat them up when the order comes in. The wings arrive very soft and defeated. Grocery stores like Carrs and Fred Meyer sell cooked, lightly sauced and breaded wings like these in their meat department. The bar can have a nice atmosphere, and they do have a terrific selection of Alaska brews on tap. But they put no effort into their wings, and it shows. read more

I finally got my husband to go and I was actually pretty impressed. I loved how everything is Alaskan made including their brews, spirits and I believe produce. I got the matanuska pizza, with chicken, spinach, caramelized onions, Provo cheese, and white sauce. I Also added fresh tomatoes. I always get those!! A pizza must! One thing was the service. My recent experience with locals was the best I've had! Previously, the staff had been fairly inattentive and the food took about an hour to come out, but there has been huge improvement! Although there is still considerable (half an hour) wait time for a pizza, it's worth it and understandable because they are so good and come out hot and fresh. The server we had was very kind and attentive, and although he was still a bit overextended, definitely did his best to make sure we were greeted immediately, and never let us go too long without checking in. Would definitely recommend for the pizza especially!! Best option in the valley for dine in pizza. read more

We stopped in here after a training run with an Iditarod hopeful out of Knik in January 2018. It was a windy day and we were cold, hungry, and tired. As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted and the decor on the walls was fun to look at. I got the lasagna as I had a hankering from the previous evening... it was actually very good! The cocktails were good as well. I was especially amused at the local regulars who were accessing the area behind the bar to help themselves to tap beers. I guess that they felt that they were helping the sole bartender/waitress/server/hostess/busboy out! But hey - this place is for LOCALS, right?
