I tried the chicken / steak fajitas and while ordering medium for the steak they came as more like medium well and the steak pieces were a bit cold. For a quick delivery time this was disappointing. The chicken was cooked well but the accompanying peppers could have been cooked more. The tortillas they give you are soooo small! I loved the queso and thought the salsa and guacamole were also good. Both the salsa and queso were bigger serving sizes. Been here several times now. Must be good, we keep coming back. The tacos are a bit spendy, but they are custom, not-ordinary or everyday tacos. Like their Jalapeno Margarita, too. The Outlaw taco is my fave, but I try to try a new one each time we visit. After a hectic week we did not want to cook and decided to walk over to Locals for dinner. Weather was perfect for sitting outside. Seats were comfortable and the service by Guillermo was both attentive and excellent. We started with chips, salsa, and guacamole, enjoying a margarita and a sangria. The margaritas were perfect but could have been served with much less ice. The sangria was delicious but the pour should have been more generous (it was just over half a glass). There is an opportunity for them to max out their game with better chips. They were thick and not as tasty as other venues. The salsa was a little salty, and was more liquidy than I personally prefer. The guacamole was excellent. While it seemed premade, it was fresh and had a smattering of seasonings to add to its taste. We had their tacos - our prime reason for heading here. I had their Locals taco which is their slow cooked birria recipe. I added the combo plate which included a portion of rice and a serving of black beans. I'm partial to birria and their's did not disappoint! The portions were just right, and the black beans were great. She had their Chesapeake taco and refried beans as a side. The shrimp, sauces, and vegetables in her taco worked really well together. We topped off the dinner with churros for desert. OMG! We'll be taking in this dessert treat again! **3.5 stars** Honestly, I've avoided going here because Mokomandy was my very most favorite restaurant. I was in the Sterling area and wanting tacos, so we took a chance on this restaurant. Walking in, it has been nicely redecorated to depict Mexican culture/cuisine, but it made me a little nostalgic for Mokomandy when looking at the bar. There was new art, chandeliers, and a cute little patio. It was a nice change! The service was quick and friendly. Our waiter was attentive and offered suggestions. We looked at the menu ahead of time and we were pretty hungry so we started with the chips & salsa. The salsa was yummy (not spicy) and the chips were handmade. Some of the chips were a little chewy still but there were some that were fried to perfection. They weren't free with every order like typical Mexican places, which didn't bother me. My husband got a mojito, which was well-made and honestly, a pretty perfect mojito. We each ordered the 3 taco platter, which comes with rice and beans. I got: El Jefe, Baja, & California Fish. My husband got: Breakfast, Birria, & BBQ. It was a good deal to get the platter! We tried his birria taco first and it was really good. It's the best birria I've had so far. The meat was tender and the dipping sauce was flavorful. My husband said his breakfast taco was spicy (the chorizo was spicier than expected, assuming), but good on flavor. He said the BBQ one was good but kind of one note. Of my tacos, I tried the El Jefe and it was like the birria taco without the dipping sauce and was the clear top one of the three I got. The fish taco was a disappointment, which I think was mostly because a lot of people hyped it on here. The fish was dry and flavorless. It kinda tasted like salmon? which I found weird. At this point, I was regretting getting the baja taco. It was really simple (to me, since it had ranch) and definitely catered to a "safe eater" population. The rice was really quite good and had hints of cilantro in it but the beans were a little salty. We ended with churros and we asked our waiter for no ice cream (dietary restriction) and he put the sprinkles and chocolate sauce on the side for us. He even asked if it was a preference and he could swap it for a different ice cream. The churros were crisp but missing more cinnamon/sugar and a little dry. They weren't bad, but I've been spoiled by Senor Ramon's. We'll definitely be back. I think this is a place that you try out a bunch of stuff and know what you like and don't. read more

When the solo waitress came to register to add or complete orders she looked at me I asked to order tacos to go , she looked at me strange and said to go? The flavors here are kind of bland in comparison, even with the salsas and the fresh lime and neither drinks nor desserts were interesting enough to really remember. Got food delivered through Grub Hub, paid $25 for delivery, service fee, tip delivery for dinner (for 2). Food looks and is pretty good but only one meal was delivered. When I spoke to the manager she said she couldn't have anyone deliver it to me ( 20 minutes away) but that I could come get my cold burrito if I wanted it. When i said I didn't want to come (40 min round trip) get it she offered me a refund for the burrito but obviously not all the grub hub fees, etc. or other food. Love the Chicken Fajitas that crush Uncle Julio's, but when I go tacos the Firecracker, Birria, Barbacoa, El Jefe are all great. Frankly they are all excellent. Service is very good too. BIRRIA TACO IS SO GOOD AND THE BEST THING IVE EVER TASTED. It is expensive though. $10 on 2 tacos but the experience was worth it. The outdoor seating is cute too. Literally will come back here again, but would be spending a lot more if the tacos were cheaper. Ya girl be broke so she gonna leave a little hungry. We had such amazing food and drinks and the service was even better! We tried this restaurant because it sadly (but deliciously) replaced our favorite restaurant, Moko Mandy. At Locals, we ordered a pollo taco, a carnitas taco, a carne asada taco and the skirt steak fajita. What we really liked here was that you order by the item so you can get as much or as little as you want. It reminds me up a much more upscale Bar Taco. For drinks we got a few mango margaritas on the rocks and our AMAZING server, David, made my wife a custom drink that was delicious. Food aside, we were seriously impressed by the service. Seriously, if you go here ASK FOR DAVID AS YOUR SERVER. He was so polite, professional, attentive and really friendly and funny. David was very conscious of COVID restrictions and kept his mask on the entire time and kept distance, while also being personable. He absolutely made the experience of the restaurant awesome. The decor here is also really cool, very Día de los Muertos with sugar skulls and traditional Mexican decorations. Local Tacos and Tequilas is a restaurant that serves terrible food at unjustifiable rates, although I did not look at their drink menu, I believe the only reason why people go there is for the drinks because the food is disgusting. If you want an alternative to Local Tacos and Tequilas, I highly suggest going to Office Depot, buying a 1-Ream stack of papers, taking out one sheet of paper, pouring some off-brand supermarket salsa on top of it and voilà, there you go, you have a better taco than whatever they serve at Local Tacos and Tequilas. Finally got a chance to check this place out. Like I told the hostess when I walked in, it takes BIG balls to open a restaurant within these walls - Mokomandy was EPIC. Decided to sit outside for lunch - ordered the chips/salsa/guacamole/queso and it definitely did the job. Grabbed the 3 taco combo for lunch - the shrimp taco was awesome, the steak taco (Outlaw) was ehhh, but their shining star was the signature Birria taco. Conveniently located at the old Mokomandy spot, with a friendly staff and hands-down some of the best tacos I've had since living in southern California. Their "birria" tacos are a featured item and served daily unlike other restaurants in the area that only serve "birria" on certain days of the week. We ventured out! We are both thrilled we did... Honestly, it just wasn't 'breaking out' that warrants the great review, but the staff and of course THE FOOD! Portions are AMPLE - while it may not look like a lot, the quality of the food is fantastic; the queso was the best we've had in a long time; not watery, not a large bowl, but again, the quality was great, so that 'little' bowl becomes bottomless in a way and it filled us up. We each had two tacos; the Birria, the California Fish, Steak and I forget (my husband's order) what the fourth was; my bad. Oh my. Wish we only ordered one each; they are that good and filling! Something must have changed because it was quite a different experience today. The food was absolutely average. I tried the steak fajitas for the first time and it was a huge disappointment! The chips were on the verge of being stale and the salsa wasn't as fresh tasting as on previous visits. Next, the service was less than average. Although the staff was friendly and our order taken promptly with no excessive wait for food, no one came to clear our table after we had finished. So we sat at the table with a bunch of dirty dishes and cutlery the entire time that we waited for the dessert we ordered. I thought someone would clear the table by then, but to my utter shock, when the server brought over the dessert, she asked us to make room among our dirty dishes so she could set it down. This is such a nice hidden gem of a restaurant! We got takeout here for dinner and I was very impressed with its abundance of options. We got a bunch of tacos, burritos, bowls and salads and all of it was incredibly filling. Their hot sauce is very spicy so caution there. I loved my bowl, it was not overflowing with cheese or beans and I could actually enjoy every topping in a balanced way.
