This food hits the spot. The local moco came with a generous serving of rice, two patties, your choice of egg, and a big scoop of mac & cheese. It's very rich, but also quite indulgent. I couldn't finish the food due to the large portion sizes but it's the perfect size for two people. As for the adobo omelette, it comes with fried rice. The fried rice taste very familiar like my grandmother's cooking the very distinct white pepper taste. The service is friendly and the food came out fast. Ambience wise the premises are decorated heavily, but it does provide a quick one stop shop for food.. especially if you're going to be hiking or walking a trail after. They give large portions and can get busy so it's best to call in your order on the way there. Recently the food has been inconsistent, chickens (mochiko and katsu) has been bland and needs a sauce for taste. Normally it's pretty good not sure if it's just been off days. Most times one regular plate feeds two of us so it's a pretty good deal. If you order there they have some seats for dine in and they also are connected to the boba tea shop next door, Teapresso. Finished Koko Head and stopped here for breakfast afterward. The spot shares space with Teapresso Bar and has a decent amount of indoor seating. The menu is extensive with daily specials, which made choosing a bit overwhelming. I ended up going with the mushroom chicken. It took about 15 minutes to prepare, but the food came out hot and fresh. The chicken was fried very crispy, and the gravy wasn't too salty. This is my go-to place if I want a no-fuss takeout meal at the start of a weekend. I think the food at this Loco Moco franchise tastes better than the local L&L franchise at a neighboring shopping center. The plates are also a significantly better value than at Zippy's. I enjoy the mapo tofu and hamburger steak plates, but the best is a mini mochiko chicken. Just by weight you know there is a lot of food for a mini plate. The mini mochiko chicken comes with 8-10 strips of marinated thigh in a sweet sticky mochiko flour batter. I will opt for all macaroni salad - there is enough to fill a round 2 cup ziploc container. This will leave me with enough to portion out over three light meals. I have to recommend coming before the mid afternoon. They are pretty diligent about cleaning their dining area and the smell of cleaning products isn't appetizing if you drop by after a workday. But if you ordered by phone and just pick up then it's not too bad. Another reason they are my first choice is I remember during an island wide blackout, they had gas so they could still cook. No electricity, no POS or card processing, no working ATMs. Unbelievably, they gave out meals to anyone who came by but couldn't pay because they didn't have and couldn't get cash. Out in Hawai'i Kai at the Koko Marina Center is Loco Moco Drive Inn. They have been around forever and the food is great. Ordered the garlic shrimp and mochiko chicken pans for a party. Garlic shrimp (7/10), they have enough but they are a little small. Sauce wise very good, not too oily with great garlic/oil ratio. If you run out of shrimps, dump the cabbage and leftover sauce over rice (which I know everyone does). Now, the Mochiko Chicken (9/10) frikin humongous, Mt. Everest height pan of endless chicken. The batter is not thick and the chicken itself is super juicy. Flavor wise one of the better mochiko chickens I've tried. One tip, leave the chicken pan uncovered while you drive if not the batter will become soggy. And don't eat any of it (yeah right). Service is always great and the dining area is very clean. They also have Chinese food and regular local plate lunch choices. There is a Teapresso Bar connected, earn points from Loco Moco purchases to get drinks from Teapresso Bar. They are so flavorful and are always a hit at family parties. We usually place phone orders and the food, for the most part, is ready by the time we get there. The staff is not always the friendliest, but I haven't had any notable bad experiences. Lisa got a LauLau plate to go (good choice) and I had Lisa and Jeff eat Gau Gee (deep-fried, rectangular, flat wonton dumplings) because Gau Gee is not popular on the mainland. Gau Gee is more of a local Chinese food. Some people like to bring fried Gau Gee to potlucks while others boil the dumplings in soup like Mandoo. There are different fillings, but most contain ground pork. Anyway, Loco Moco Drive Inn offered four "Crispy Gau Gee" on their menu - perfect! We saw the cashier pull a bag of Gau Gee out from the freezer and drop them into the frying basket. They came out Hot, crisp on the outside, and fresh! Yummy! Fast, high quality local comfort food with generous servings and friendly staff. I never write reviews but I work in the mall so have been coming here for my lunch breaks fairly regularly for about a year and a half, and i have always had amazing experiences. The same people that staff Loco Moco also staff the Teapresso which is located in the restaurant. Despite them being visibly busy, they are so friendly and always handle rushes with ease. In the beginning they remembered me and my order so quickly. By the second or third time I came in, they treated me like a regular. For better or for worse for my health, I became one, LOL. The speed of service is comparable to a fast food restaurant, which is impressive since the food is made to order. Everything I've gotten has been fresh, still piping hot. I like to eat, but even the "mini" plates have me taking home leftovers. They have lots of menu options- my favorites are the mochiko chicken, chicken katsu, loco moco, burgers, crispy gau gee, and fried spring rolls. Their mac salad is also delish. The restaurant is clean and staff is so welcoming, I often dine in as a result. I love spending my lunch break here. I hope the employees are paid well because they deserve it.
