Mushroom chicken plate $18
Amy Y.

Finished Koko Head and stopped here for breakfast afterward. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The spot shares space with Teapresso Bar and has a decent amount of indoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu is extensive with daily specials, which made choosing a bit overwhelming. I ended up going with the mushroom chicken. It took about 15 minutes to prepare, but the food came out hot and fresh. The chicken was fried very crispy, and the gravy wasn't too salty. Surprisingly, it was really good, and the portion size was decent. Looks like they've expanded to other locations as well. I'd definitely come back to try more items on the menu.

Located in Koko Marina shopping center next to Bank of Hawaii and Petco, they have a huge menu of breakfast lunch/ dinner, daily specials, other specials, catering. They use five star for rewards so check in with your phone number every $1 1 point, 300 points for a free regular loco moco or chicken Katsu plate. They give large portions and can get busy so it's best to call in your order on the way there. Recently the food has been inconsistent, chickens (mochiko and katsu) has been bland and needs a sauce for taste. Normally it's pretty good not sure if it's just been off days. Most times one regular plate feeds two of us so it's a pretty good deal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you order there they have some seats for dine in and they also are connected to the boba tea shop next door, Teapresso.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Hopefully they stick around though because fat boys in Koko Marina is gone.

Mini Pork Adobo

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is kind of messy but it's typical clean for an Asian establishment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The tables and chairs are clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came for breakfast and ordered a mini Pork Odobo and it came with 1 scoop of rice, 1 scoop of mac salad and the pork odobo. It was uber $14 and it came out fairly quickly. The food was delicious and flavorful with tender chunks of pork. I will definitely return to try some of their other items.

Fast food .. they have another boba shop in the same space. A very large menu. There are so many things to choose from. It's well worth the visit: it gets busy. So expect to wait and your food may come out in stages . That's ok with me . I'm happy here . Reasonably priced

Regular Loco Moco, 2 Eggs your way and 2 Beef Patties

Food is always Hot & Delicious! We had the Regular Loco Moco and the Regular Chicken Katsu. Again, they never disappoint us. Service is always friendly and fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The location is 1 mile from home and clean and inviting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking stalls in front and nearby. Such a Treat in the neighborhood.

Furikake Fried Fish Plate. Lots of simple carbs and excess fat, but hey, it's tasty.

This is my go-to place if I want a no-fuss takeout meal at the start of a weekend. I think the food at this Loco Moco franchise tastes better than the local L&L franchise at a neighboring shopping center. The plates are also a significantly better value than at Zippy's. I enjoy the mapo tofu and hamburger steak plates, but the best is a mini mochiko chicken. Just by weight you know there is a lot of food for a mini plate. The mini mochiko chicken comes with 8-10 strips of marinated thigh in a sweet sticky mochiko flour batter. I will opt for all macaroni salad - there is enough to fill a round 2 cup ziploc container. This will leave me with enough to portion out over three light meals. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have to recommend coming before the mid afternoon. They are pretty diligent about cleaning their dining area and the smell of cleaning products isn't appetizing if you drop by after a workday[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. But if you ordered by phone and just pick up then it's not too bad. Another reason they are my first choice is I remember during an island wide blackout, they had gas so they could still cook. No electricity, no POS or card processing, no working ATMs. Unbelievably, they gave out meals to anyone who came by but couldn't pay because they didn't have and couldn't get cash. I remember, and do not forget that generosity. So Loco Moco Drive Inn is my don't-want-to-cook Friday night choice. Mini mochiko chicken. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

This place is the bomb. If you're looking for authentic Hawaiian and Chinese food this is the place to be. It's totally underrated on here. Also the service is super quick and everyone's so friendly. I'm really happy thank you!!

We love Loco Moco Restaurant at Hawaii Kai. We highly recommend this restaurant" "The food and service quality was truly exceptional, I can't wait to come back" "The Loco Moco, and Mochiko Chicken items particularly my favorite, [[HIGHLIGHT]]good ambiance and customer service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I really wanted to try a Loco Moco in Hawaii but many places had giant portions, so I was stoked this place had a 1/2 portion option available that was easy to complete! It was a delicious, perfectly greasy and hearty meal. It's right next to the Koko head trailhead so it hit the spot after suffering through that! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was fast, and it was a nice and casual, no-frills atmosphere within a complex with many other shops.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We were the first ones in. The woman at the front was so sweet and welcoming! I always loved their tables and the vibe is always relaxing. Our server was so nice! Since it was our last meal before leaving Hawaii and there were still a few Hawaiian dishes I hadn't gotten around to trying, this felt like the perfect spot. What I really liked is that they have a sampler plate with a bunch of classic Hawaiian dishes, and the menu actually breaks down what everything is. Clearly this is something people come here for, because it makes trying a little bit of everything way less intimidating. I split the sampler with someone, and overall I was pleasantly surprised. Some of the items didn't look the most appetizing at first glance -- one especially because of the color -- but flavor-wise, everything was actually really good. One of the dishes reminded me of a comforting chicken soup situation, the clear noodles were good, some of the other items were more savory, and it all balanced together well. The lomi salmon was one of my favorites -- kind of like a light, fresh tomato salsa or pico de gallo situation that paired really well with the pork and everything else on the plate. I didn't finish it all because I was already full, but I genuinely liked the variety and thought the flavors were rich and comforting. So if you're curious about Hawaiian food but don't know where to start, this sampler is a great move. Don't let the appearance of some of the dishes scare you off. Service was quick and everyone was nice. At first I kind of wished someone had walked us through the food a little more, but honestly, the menu already does that for you pretty clearly. Overall, I'm glad we came. It was a fun way to try the Hawaiian dishes we hadn't gotten to yet, and I'd come back to try more.

Made sure to come here the first night I landed so I did not miss out and could see if it lived up to the hype. It did. It is such a fun place to feel like you are having a picnic. You know this place is good since there is a steady line of people ordering bags and bags of food. Just to say, this is another must-do must-try place for food. We was super excited to have the mixed plate with gravy. It was beef, chicken and fish with rice and mac salad. It was huge and perfect. It tasted amazing and I would order this again and again. We had two of those. We also tried the loco moco and classic dish, and the saimin, which I had always wanted to try. One child also ordered the BBQ pork sandwich which she enjoyed and since it was a small menu item could help with the mix plate, which is impossible to finish in one sitting. I was stuffed and in woman versus food, food won overwhelmingly. I wish I had room to try the slush and ice cream or other items, but I could not eat another bite. So many items on the menu were very tempting and I am sad I only got to visit here one time. I do hope to return and have so many things on my dish wish list, but that mixed plate was so good, I bet I would go with that again.

The four of us shared the loco moco plate, boneless chicken with gravy plate, and the BBQ beef plate. Food was good and hearty. My favorite was the loco moco plate. The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

The owner was very friendly and took the time to recommend dishes for us, including the laulau and lechon kawali. We also ordered the BBQ short ribs. Overall, it was a good experience trying Hawaiian food, but it's just not really our type of cuisine. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.
