She was the first person to ask me, "May I touch your hair?" While to many that's minuscule, I soon felt an overflow of comfort that I hadn't before. My consultation was amazing, and filled with information to get me on the right track. For the first few months I went to Oshun and loved every second of it. Soon after, I began to go to Noah, another AMAZING stylist at the salon. She has such a nurturing spirit that flourishes at the opportunity of creativity. I have been having been getting Deva Curl shapings since 2007 and I think I have found my new go to - as soon as I walked into Velvet Waves, I felt like I was walking into an aunt's house - the location is conveniently located on Main St in Ellicott City and there is ample street parking and the free lots are just a few blocks away. Once I got into the shop, Carmen greeted me as if she and I had been friends for years - what a warm welcome! And not only that but once I sat down, she asked me to tell her about my hair and what I wanted to do - as a Deva Curl consultant I really rely on their expertise and experience with curly hair but it is always great when they really listen to your concerns and wishes so thank you Carmen!!! As always, the entire process takes about 2 hours since my hair is pretty long but let me tell you you will get THE BEST head massage when she washes your hair - I did not want to get up from the chair that is for sure - and she provides you with feet pillows so you can stretch out a little more - loved that! Before I left the salon, I really felt as though I was part of a new family - the other patrons were hospitable and courteous and FUN and I think that is just a sign of a really great shop!!! How will you protect my edges? 2. How will you react when I tell you that they are too tight? 3. Do I have to buy my own hair? 4. Do you offer wash services? First, the way she answered the phone was so bright and cheerful. She answered all of my questions and luckily her afternoon appt canceled so I was in same day at 1 for senegalese twists. As I was walking through the door, her client before me was leaving. Her cheerful dispositipn on the phone is even better in person. Her spirit is just wonderful. She gave me a wash, blow dry (not on high heat!), trim, and after all of that a scalp massage. When I tell you I could have fallen asleep.... Her conversation was on point. Just enough convo but not too much. I let her work on my head and I watched tv. Let me touch on her skills. AMAZING!!! I said before that I like my edges. She expressed that she doesnt braid tight becaise she knows how it feels. All braiding stylists say that but Purity is the truth. She braids tight enough that they are secure but not so tight that there is tension everywhere, your head is inflamed, you need to pop all of the pills when you get home, and youre sleeping on your forehead for 2 weeks until they loosen. There was none of that. If one happened to cross that threshold she immediately took steps to make it better. Additionally, she checked in periodically to make sure I was all right. My braids are gorgeous! I love them so much! They are a little long for me but that's my fault, I didnt express the length I wanted. I was so excited and caught up in the scalp massage and conversation that I forgot to mention. This is definitely not her fault and I dont hold it against her. I need to give my hair a break from all of the manipulation so I am definitely going to visit Purity again and tell everyone I know. PS...she provided that hair.

I arrived at her immaculate salon at 9 am, and she completed my hair at under 6 hours. The whole experience with her was amazing. For my husband, it could be Great Clips or any average place. For people like my sister and I that have this crazy, like really crazy, curly hair and when you grew up in the 80s, it was a painstaking, traumatizing (and I'm not joking) search to find that hairdresser that gets you and your hair. It took me 40 years to find someone that kind of got my hair, and another 5 to find someone and a Salon, that FINALLY got it! Someone that didn't hesitate and dove right in and made my hair gorgeous! The coloring, her straightening it with beachy waves has been a, seriously, life-changing thing for me. I think, ok we joke, that Kimberly has to do an arm workout before I get there, however, it is my favorite appointment and I look forward to it, to the point that my husband has to get the scoop afterwards. The beauty of The Beehive is that you walk in there, and you feel like you're with friends. Kim's got my hair, I trust her, it looks great every time, but we talk as well..
