Where did I go in a pinch? A place that served me well... actually very well for over thirty years! My friends who live in the neighborhood introduced this business to me. I also coincidentally used to work in that area in my suit wearing work years. I would sometimes bring my collared shirts to be cleaned there or jackets that required dry cleaning. In the past few years, I've brought my mom's old jackets and bed comforters to clean. Back to the now, I recently had a major 'oops'. I tried my work neighborhood cleaner but they could not clean my special stain. I came here while on an errand and spoke with the lady co-owner. She examined my problem and could not guarantee being able to clean it, asking me to return in a week. Having a bunch of errands that day, I forgot to pick up my shirt until the following week. Upon getting my shirt, the lady co-owner told me that her husband spent several hours to remove my difficult stain. Big thanks to the husband and wife owners for appreciating my joy in wearing this shirt especially with the Orange and Black doing so well this season. Really impressed with this dry cleaning. I needed to get my Ted Baker dress dry cleaned, since I unfortunately stained ice cream on it (ughs!). The regular place I take it to, A-track Cleaners, said they could NOT dry clean it, saying it was a complicated task, as my dress was pleated, and that it could ruin their dry cleaning machine. Very disappointing. Anyway, Bluebird Cleaners is also in my vicinity, and they took it no problem, although did give me the disclosure that the stain may not be able to be removed, and that the pleated part of my dress may be ruined too, but the chance was unlikely since the brand Ted Baker was a good one. Bluebird was willing to do the job, $28, which I thought was well worth the price since I love my dress! The turnaround time was 7 days. Within one week, I returned, and the lady remembered my name when I arrived! Wow. And the best part, my dress was stain free, and also still had my beautiful pleat. I am very thankful for their wonderful customer service. I would highly recommend this place. They also take Apple Pay, which was quite handy on my walk with my dog. read more

I have been coming here for years and I swear by this place for my S.F. dry clean and alterations. Great service run by locals for locals. Super friendly people who even keep open late of your running late. The prices are very reasonable and well below the average or this expensive city. Great quality alterations done on site. Really bad service, I went in to pick up my suit and it wasn't ready. The person at the front desk asked me to come back in 15 minutes, 20 minutes later, went back in and picked up my suit I noticed the alternations that were done were horrible, one side of the pant leg was longer than the other. read more

BTW, I wish that place had a NAME so I could yelp them and complain about how their sign says they open at 8:00 AM (which would make it possible for me to drop things off for same-day service before I go to work -- duh), but they're NEVER THERE at 8:00. Blue Bird has been my local dry cleaner now for about a year. They have always done a nice job for me and have welcomed me with a smile and decent prices every time. The icing on the cake recently was when I took a shirt that I had just spilled red wine on and they were able to get the stain out with almost no trace. Well, they are very convenient and friendly. I usually go to another cleaner in the neighborhood but she was on vacation, and unfortunately I made a bad choice for a substitute. I paid TWICE as much for wash and fold, in addition to two extra dollar per sheet for bed sheets. In total, my wash which is typically about $30 or less was $78!!! EXPENSIVE read more

Blue Bird Cleaners has been my personal cleaner for approximately 8yrs. I only wear black and as everyone knows black is a difficult color to maintain - Michael and Joanne (the owners) and their staff know exactly how I like my slacks pressed and my sweaters maintained (they put tissues when they fold the sweaters, thus allowing you to just slide it into your drawers (how convenient) and I have also taken advantage of their alteration skills. OK, so my laundry room door closed and the cat had nowhere to pee except my bed...but that was my expensive comforter and it's a good thing I live a block from this place and they have removed all traces of the accident and only I and you yelp readers know that it even happened...I made the cat promise not to tell my boyfriend... Very friendly and the alteration service is fairly good. I've had some things dry cleaned and laundered here and they're not cheap but I was happy with the state of the garments when they were done. Most notably are their hours of operation which are great! Also the other day the zipper on my bag was all jacked up and the alterations lady fiddled with it and fixed it for free! I had offered to pay but she said to just come back with items to dry clean. That was cool. read more

We've been regulars here for nearly 10-years now. Their service and quality are always good, consistent, and dependable. The staff is very friendly and prices are reasonable, too. I especially appreciate their attention to details. They have called me on several occasions to clarify my orders. For example, one time I dropped off my son's sport-coat to let the sleeves out and they noticed a stain and called to ask if I'd like to have it cleaned, too. They didn't ignore it, nor assumed that they should just go ahead and clean it. They also do their best to rush a job if I need something cleaned or repaired quickly. I can't speak to their dry cleaning, I only had shirts laundered. I am glad that there's an eco friendly cleaner for when I need it, but I'll be taking my shirts and pants elsewhere to be pressed. As others have said, they are way too expensive, $2.50 per shirt and starch was extra, even light starch. That's more than twice what I paid in when I lived in the Castro, and there are tons of other cleaners around here. And they won't take a credit card under $20, seriously? I think we all know that credit companies charge 35 cents to run a transaction. If that eats into your profits too much, charge us 35 cents. Charge us 50 cents. Why does SF hate credit/debit, is it too easy for the IRS to track? Oh, and I went in with a new customer coupon, but he wouldn't validate it. It was my mistake, it wasn't dry cleaning. This was around 8am, and I didn't get any early bird discount nor was I offered to have my shirts back same day. read more

I sure miss Bluebird Cleaners! I moved from San Francisco in May 2011, after 10 years of Bluebird cleaning my clothes. Now I'm trying to find a decent cleaner in San Jose, and I'm seeing problems that I NEVER saw with Bluebird. Their attention to detail was superb. I used them for about 70% laundry and 30% dry cleaning. Shirts were pressed accurately, light starch was perfect. Pants always turned out great. Stains disappeared. Alterations were awesome. In 10 years of going to Bluebird, the only problems I had centered around shirts with certain button types: cake-style buttons and snaps. Bluebird replaced cracked cake buttons on two shirts at NO CHARGE, replacing them with regular buttons so I could send them through the normal laundry process. Some other shirts with snaps, they recommended that I just dry-clean them since that was cheaper than laundry+hand press. Words to the wise: If they have cake-style buttons or snaps, you MUST have these shirts HAND PRESSED or dry-cleaned (also hand-pressed). This is the case with ANY cleaner. When they press laundered shirts, it goes into a huge machine that applies too much pressure for anything other than a regular button. Cake buttons will crack, and snaps get marred and cracked. Take my advice and ask your cleaner about special handling for anything that's not regular buttons. You will be glad you did. Some reviewers complain about the policies around credit/debit card usage. Please be aware that small businesses get SCREWED by bank merchant card service fees. For small transactions, card fees can eat up the profit margin. I would always let them run my card as debit or credit, whichever was best for that transaction size. And if I was dropping off a small order while picking up big one, I would pay for both at once, consolidating the two orders to minimize the percentage of the transaction they paid in card fees. No real inconvenience to me. I'm missing my friends at Bluebird. Best cleaners ever! read more

These guys are good. Michael hems all my jeans with the original hem and has never screwed it up. He managed to get a curry stain out of my boyfriend's light blue shirt. He also tailors stuff for my boyfriend and it looks just as good as the department store. Only once have they not had something ready as planned. It was a big sweater coat, so I understood. We went out of the country for a month, and another month later I remembered, and it was still there! The only downfall is they don't seem to do same day service. That and he always asks what the stains are, especially the dubious looking ones. This is in order to get them out, but it used to make me giggle and blush a little. read more

I can't speak to the quality of work this place does because the one time I stopped by here the price quote was so outrageous I took my dress and left. I was quoted $140 to dry clean my wedding dress. There is no special lace or beading, it is a very simple dress. I even pointed out that if it had been the exact same cut and any other color they wouldn't have quoted me that much. I understand that the price is set, more or less, by the company then send their dry cleaning out to, but I think they need to reevaluate that relationship. $140 is obscene! In the end I took my dress to another cleaners (I said I wore it to a black and white ball) and got it cleaned for $15- and it looks beautiful! read more

I got another pair of jeans patched and i'm a fan (though their patches can be kind of big. i don't really know how patching works on the other hand). 2- If you're spending less than $20, you should probably bring cash. I've been coming here for years and don't really want to go anywhere else. I started coming here many years ago when I lived in SF and 3 years ago I moved to Daly City and I still drive out to drop off my dry cleaning to them. I have taken my dry cleaning to others closer to DC, but have ran into problems, mostly they would either shrink my clothes or they would smell like chemicals, not at Bluebird Cleaners. Every time I get consistent good results and that is very important to me. They do a great job, and to other yelpers who are complaining about pricing, all I have to say is you get what you pay for. I do not mind Bluebird's pricing because they consistently do a good job and when you are dropping off expensive suits that cost upwards of $800.00 I wouldn't trust anyone else to touch them other than Bluebird Cleaners. Imagine this: My best friend's wedding, open-bar, fight with boyfriend (now ex), mother's Burberry trench, and a bumpy car ride home... Well, if you haven't figured out the equation yet, I thought my mother's Burberry trench was ruined! However...Bluebird laundry masters were able to remove every stain after a diligent 3 cycles of dry cleaning. Once I admitted to them what the stain was, they were able to ameliorate the problem. Sure, you might find a place that charges a dollar or two less on some items -- but you get what you pay for when it comes to mass production. And if you need dry cleaning, don't you want the best for your best clothes (otherwise, you should stick to Old Navy wardrobes and skip dry cleaning altogether). I also very much love that they use the most environmentally friendly cleaning processes. I am concerned about dry cleaning solutions: the fumes emitted in your own closet are carcinogenic. But Blue Bird uses an alternative process. Keeps them and their customers safe! Now wouldn't you pay a little more for this? Compared to pedigreed Peninou, this place is quite the deal! Alterations are great, too. I was going to have Bloomingdale's alter my gown (for an inaugural ball in D.C.). Since I bought it on sale, they wanted to charge me $80 because of the delicate silk chiffon fabric. They claimed I could do no better with an outside tailor. Not true! Blue Bird charged me $25, and it was beautiful. Plus, Eileen the owner is so lovely and professional. It's a pleasure doing business with good people, don't you think? And if you get there before 9a on weekdays, you get a 10% discount. Very cool. read more

Thank God we found this place! We've been going around the area looking for someone who can iron/press my husband's suit a day before our wedding. Since it was President's day the day before our wedding, we had an extra hard time finding cleaners that we're open. Also, most of the places that we went to didn't do ironing/pressing only and majority didn't do dry cleaning on site. Here's a summary of our experience and why I am giving them 5 stars: Pro's - you can get your stuff right away if you're in a hurry (we only had to wait for 15 minutes) - price was reasonable considering it was a rushed job (no extra charge, we had a suit, pants, and long sleeved shirt pressed) - the lady who greeted me was very, very friendly and accommodating (and for that we gave her a hefty tip coz she deserved it) - plenty of street parking Cons - no waiting area inside the place (we had to wait in the car) Now I know where to go if I want something dry cleaned, pressed or altered. Nevermind that it's so far off from where we live. I would still bring my stuff there just because of the efficient and excellent service! read more

I feel terrible writing a scathing review to anything, but I feel like people should be deterred from this place. Particularly, women that get their button up shirts laundered! I dropped off a few mens and womens shirts to be laundered (not dry-cleaned). $2.50 each, ok fine. The women's shirts are the same cotton fabric as the mens shirts, except they are 3/4 length sleeve and have a little fold on the breast pockets (mini cargo pockets). Anyway, when I pick them up I am told that they are BLOUSES and therefor $5.50! Despite the fact that they are the same as a man's shirt, just smaller. This is a pinstripe, cotton, collared, button-up shirt. Nothing blousey about it. I got pretty upset and tried to debate it, "um, no this is a shirt, no different from the men's right here. there is no way this is a blouse!" and I didn't even get the "Ok, well sorry for this time, but next time that's our price." The service was a stubborn assertion that my button up is a blouse. $5.50 to have one of my work shirts cleaned. Never again, forever. read more

Blue Bird was my cleaner of choice for years. Unfortunately, I am now switching to another cleaner. I needed a shirt cleaned overnight (brought in about 12 noon), and they said they couldn't do it. Then I asked if they could at least press a jacket. They said they didn't have someone coming in work the press. OK. When I asked if they knew someone who could do it, they said no one else would be able to. Wrong. I found someone who not only could clean and press my clothes, they would be open until 8pm. On a Saturday! And they were much nicer and way cheaper. Another indecent: I asked for some minor repairs on a pair of pants. When I got them back, they did more than I asked, or would have wanted, and they said it was a deal because they were only going to charge me half for the unasked for work. If you're going to do extra work on a garment, either call and get approval, or do it as a gift. At the time, I had been going to Blue Bird for over 15 years. So I had 15 years of good service, which is why I give it 3 stars. But I'm not going back now that I found my new place. read more

Another Clement Street treasure. If you need your jeans hemmed, and don't want them to LOOK hemmed, this is where you need to go. $13. A little more than I'd like to spend IN ADDITION to what I already spent on too-long pants, but if you don't like the draggy-saggy look, or the rolled-up look, which I don't, you do what you have to. There service is good and overpriced, but despite the money they seem to be minting in their business, they are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP and won't do anything more than the bare minimum to keep their customers happy. Second, they are piss poor at counting clothes when you drop them off. I have had to correct their counts 4 out of 6 times. Finally, as a result of this miscounting, they lost one of my very expensive dress shirts, worth over $150. Rather than keep the customer happy even with a modest credit, they decided to fight me on this by insisting that it was not possible that they lost it and not doing anything. Their motto is, "the customer is always right only if they are paying me." I will not do business with BlueBird again. read more

I'm a particular person, and I get pretty antsy about entrusting other people with my clothes, but I have to say, Bluebird Cleaners does a consistently good job with both dry cleaning and hemming. Their hours cater to my work schedule. I can stop by either before or after work and they're open. I'm also all about going "Green", and I hear they upgraded their equipment so that it is non-toxic and eco-friendly, which also means the chemicals won't irritate my skin. A lot of other dry cleaners still haven't upgraded, so that's a big plus. Good service, honest work, and reasonable prices. read more
