I met two friends here for lunch today. The place is definitely deli/diner vibe, clean and well lit. Comfortable and a decent amount of seating. We didn't get deli because of different dietary issues. One person got the egg salad sandwich, which they said was fine but the onion roll was a bit hard. Another got a BLT, and that also was "fine," with one piece of toasted bread being hard and the other being too soft (not toasted well. I got the grilled chicken salad, The salad was cooked well and tasty and there was a good portion. The greens didn't look particularly fresh, but tasted fine. The salad came with dressing that is a pouch of Ken's. For the price, the meal was fine. I thought the salad was probably the best of the three choices. Maybe the deli is better. read more

Great sandwich shop located by Farragut West Metro stop. All of the sandwich options with pastrami and roast beef were very tasty. The Loeb is packed with meat, sauerkraut, cheese, and some sauce that was super tasty and filling. After half a sandwich I was full! Make sure to get chips on the side and their cookies are also super tasty to add to your lunch order. Since it was my first ever pastrami sandwich and matzo ball soup, i wasn't sure what to expect flavor wise, but the workers there were so kind and attentive, answering my every silly question. Happy to say that I am truly hooked. The soup came with a side of coleslaw and a pickle, and while I am not a fan of coleslaw at all, the pickle was amazing. I have no idea if they're made in store or bought, but I wish I got another one. As for the actual soup, the matzo ball was soft and moist, and the broth felt like the biggest and warmest hug you could get from your grandma. My husband's pastrami came with muenster instead of Swiss, and it was truly delicious and filling. Great place to stop at for a decently priced, filling and absolutely delicious meal. Had the pleasure of eating here for a private dinner this week. And eating their food served for a lunch meeting the next day. Turkey sandwich was tasty, fresh, and the bread so soft. Larry M.'s Instagram reel review put me on to this Downtown spot, and when I checked the location and saw it was next to my work, I had to try! I opted for the chili and a side of fries. The chili was rich and packed some deep flavor. In terms of the chili portion, you're also getting what you pay for ($8.99). As other reviewers have mentioned, try to have your order ready before getting to the counter. They seem to service a high volume of customers in the morning and at lunch, so they're really just trying to be firm/direct in making sure they aren't wasting people's time. And shame on me for not asking for a spoon!? That said, the $13 bowl of soup was amazing. So thick that the plastic spoon I acquired elsewhere stood up in it. My one star review is about the service and not the food. I have been there numerous times because my husband likes their sandwiches and asks me to bring some home whenever I visit my dentist whose office is located in the same building. But today is the last time I will set foot in there. I have enough about the female cashier's rude and disgusting attitude. I have never witnessed anyone shouting so loud and nasty in my life. You can clearly tell that the employee that she was shouting at has mental disability. That was the last straw on the camel's back. I had witnessed another staff with mental disability getting yelled at by her when I was previously there, never mind that she had never been pleasant to me (not sure if it's because she has an issue with Asian women). Never once did she say thank you after I paid although customers after me got a thank you (without a smile, of course). She never gives me my receipts so even if I wanted to tip the cook staff on my credit card bill (which I do to compensate what they endure daily), I couldn't. Today I went in for lunch, and had the great displeasure of witnessing a female owner/manager absolutely BERATING two employees. Yelling at them for cleaning the counter "incorrectly", she was shouting "what the fuck is wrong with you?!" "Don't fuck this up for me!" She even went as far as to call one "fattie." It has taken me far too long to try this amazing lunch time treasure! I started going to Loeb's about 2 weeks ago and have already dined here about 3 or 4 times. They are currently on their Lenten menu, which includes cream of crab soup, fried shrimp basket, and a fish sandwich with fries. I have had each and have been absolutely pleased. It is so amazing to see the entire family still working together in such a fast-paced full service establishment right in the middle of the city. We were on a hunt for a good corned beef sandwich when we decided to come try this place after Yelp searching. We actually were keen to try this other place in the area but that's another story. Long story short, the Corned Beef Special was good but not great. Apparently the "special" in the name in for the slaw. And here we expected to have something special or extra on the side, or a special price for the lunch crowd. This place seems to have the typical fast casual set-up where you walk far into the end of the hallway to the cash register, order and pay, then take your order for takeaway or to sit in. The sandwich was hit and miss: Russian dressing was missing with only the American mustard, which changed the feel of the sandwich. Slaw? Nice but there just wasn't enough on there. Spending the week with my daughter at the Club Quarters Hotel in Washington, D.C. we came across Loeb's NY Deli in the 1700 block of Eye Street. Breakfast on several occasions included the "Manhattan" - which included 2 eggs with a choice of bacon, sausage, ham, scrapple, or turkey bacon, along with toast - the "Brooklyn" - which included Corned beef hash, eggs, and toast - or "The Deli Scramble" - which included pastrami, eggs and toast. I'm a bit on the cheap side, so "free" hotel coffee it was for me. Each of our orders were "to-go" - we did not dine in. Polite and friendly service - no issues with "attitude" while being served at Loeb's NY Deli. Plenty of napkins and flatware - along with appropriate condiments - were included with each order. The vast array of sandwiches available provides comfort in finding something that suits each deli-eater's tastes, and salads, fruits, soups, and desserts are readily available for purchase. I myself came with a group of friends for lunch, and we easily assembled our own long table along the wall. The food is, albeit, not necessarily impressive, but the choices are original enough. I ordered the Turkey Special, a cold-cut sandwich filled with turkey, a layer of coleslaw, and Russian dressing (I ordered it on the side) on rye bread, as well as their matzo ball soup. The sandwich was generously portioned, and the soup came with one giant and satisfying matzo ball (a little smaller then a tennis ball). The sandwich was fine enough; it was stacked high with turkey with some creamy and crunchy diced coleslaw, and the matzo ball cut like butter and slid down my throat as easily as bread soaked in stock. The actual soup base on the other hand... (The look and taste was reminiscent of that of a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup minus the noodles - all sodium and with tasteless cuts of mirepoix and chicken). My order came to over $18, and I am not sure if this price justifies the quality of the food or environment (I definitely wouldn't pay $18 for this again, or at the very least steer clear of the soup). I also overheard that the woman cashier had hung up on a client midway on a phone call. Although the casual environment is a nice way to relax and munch down on a meal with friends, the rough service doesn't really make up for the good laughs and social banter surrounding the table, and the quality of the soup just isn't to par with my expectations. read more

This place has THE BEST sandwiches, and enough for 2 meals, which is good, because the prices should be enough for 2 meals. Probably best deli in DC. Breakfast until 11. They have a serious problem with burned out light bulbs. Probably half the fluorescent light bulbs were burned out. I told an employee and he said to talk to the cashier, but she was busy and I didn't want to bother her. So maybe she will read this or someone who does can tell her? I believe she is the owner. Otherwise counter ordering and they bring the food to you. Plenty of indoor tables plus a few outdoor. Big selection of desserts. When I got my order, the hot dog doesn't even look like the regular 6 inch and the fries were countable. It is a very expensive combo in my opinion. The tomatoes were soft and looks like it was sitting on the counter for quite some time. The hot dog meat was good. Doesn't taste like store bought. This place is the diggity. I do like their old location better, because it was so much bigger, but we're not really talking real estate, we're talking about the food. Walter and I must be culinary soul brothers because Walter's Favorite is Chuq's Favorite as well. If you don't like delicious pastrami, cole slaw, Russian dressing or pumpernickel bread, then this sandwich isn't for you. There is so much meat on their sandwiches, that you can measure it in inches. I have yet to meet a sandwich that I don't like there. Even the hot dog is good. Lunchtime can be stressful there, so figure out what you want while you're standing in line. Trust me, everyone will be happier. I highly recommend everything, even the chicken liver. Actually, the Greenwich village sandwich is my second choice there. Try it out. The food will fill you up, and you will be so glad you ate something from here. One thing I will say though....I wish they were open on the weekends. I've craved these sandwiches before, and it sucks to wait til Monday to get my deli on. read more
