Loeb's was much better in their previous location. I went there today and was HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. To start off, the staff at the register are not that friendly. I ordered the Chicken Cheese special that comes with fries and a drink. It should be renamed to A sub sandwich with a side of chicken. The chicken was cold, overcooked, dry, and tasteless. The fries were cold and clearly not fresh. How is that possible if they are cooking per order and the customer is standing there waiting? There is a lady behind the counter, and she yells at employees and customers alike. It is almost like you are on a sitcom, or watching an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. I could easily see Gordon Ramsay talking to the woman (who could be an owner, based on other reviews) and tell her: "Are you out of your mind? This place could be much better." We were walking around The White House and found Loebs and Wicked Waffle on yelp. Glad I stopped by. Saw they had a lobster roll special and got that and a bowl of creamy crab soup. Service was prompt and pleasant. You can tell the brothers really care about their product. Now to the food. The lobster roll is packed into a long soft delicious bun. This is the best deli in all of Washington, DC. It has authentic corned beef, pastrami, cheeses, breads, the whole nine yards. Prices are a little high, but you get quality meats for your money. Soups (like matzo ball) are made about as well as they would be made at top kosher delis in New York City (though Loeb's is only Jewish/kosher style, and barely that since they serve pork/bacon and shellfish). But, outside of religious concerns, there is no reason to miss this place. Its food is great and about 90% as tasty as (the great) Katz's Deli in Manhattan. It is closed for dinner, that is the only problem. If you are near the White House, and miss deli food from New York, you should come. read more

I have been nomming their pastrami, matzoh ball soup, and lox platters non-stop since I discovered them and am always happy with how delicious it is and how happy my stomach (not very tolerant of anything these days) is after I've eaten it. Loeb's used to be my jam - I came here at least once a week for lunch when I worked a few blocks away. The best advice I can give is to be prepared if you're coming here for the first time and they give you an attitude. It's not you! I'm not sure if they're unaware of it or if they're intentionally trying to be like an episode of Seinfeld. Either way, it's a significantly better experience when you're cautious of this in advance. Probably not the best customer service model but having a heads up here can work wonders if you're short on time and options. I'm torn between two and three stars - I'm going with two as Loeb's has been a gamble over the last year or so. When they're good, they're good, regardless of what you order. I usually stick with pastrami but really whatever sandwich you choose will be decent. Unfortunately when they're bad, they're really bad and in need of a major attitude adjustment. Ear Loeb's! (...Yes, I have the creativity of a 2nd grader) I've visited Loeb's a few times over the years and every time has been a hit. This place could probably exist as a lunch-pail spot anywhere in the country, but it's in the heart of Downtown DC. As a NY style deli, Loeb's isn't about form and fashion and smiling in your face, but about getting the job done. I went with a few former coworkers and we all enjoyed. During my most recent visit, I got Walter's favorite - pastrami, muenster, slaw, special recipe russian dressing, pumpernickel. The meat was great quality, the bread had a very good texture, and the sauce was flavorful. It's say that the bread could have been a tiny bit firmer, but I'd rather have it lean on the side of softness than firmness. Loeb's used the most effective product placement I've ever seen. As you're waiting for your sandwich, they set out some home cooked Old Bay potato chips. I saw my co workers munching on a few and they said they were good. I tried one... and they weren't Lay's, but I couldn't' eat just one. So.. I ended up buying a bag. Sure, they were like $3, but who cares when I'm getting that salty goodness. I went to Loeb's NY Deli on 4/12/18 for breakfast. I am originally from the tristate area and was intrigued to try the "NY Deli". The food was decent and their portions are generous. The food is expensive (as some of the other Yelpers have mentioned). I had a coffee and lox bagel sandwich/platter and it was over $10.00. Although it's been awhile since I went to a traditional NY Deli. I don't remember it being that expensive. I had a feeling that I might be paying a slight up charge for their location. I liked the fact that the restaurant has ample seating. I also loved the fact like the names of their food platters suggested that they cater to police officers. I saw a number of police officers chatting and enjoying breakfast while I was there. In a nutshell not a bad place for breakfast if you don't need to count your pennies. read more

I'm surprised that I never wrote a review for Loeb's NY Deli in DC. I first went to Loeb's when they were on the othier side of the White House. I've been to their relocated spot several times since. I always ordered The Loeb: essentially a Corned Beef Reuben sandwich. Loeb's sandwiches always have a lot of meat in them. Puts the sub chains to shame. And their meat is so good. The most recent time, they had lobster rolls as a daily special. I wish it was Connecticut-style with hot butter but it was Maine style with mayo. Still really good, and much better than Luke's. read more
