Yooo their açaí bowl is really good. I wasn't expecting to like it at all because I'm super picky with açaí. But their açaí reminds me of a fancier version of SD blenders by SDSU (which btw has good açaí) but this place is def better than SD blenders. I like how they add hemp hearts, cacao nibs, and pumpkin seeds to their açaí! And how they easily omit the peanut butter. Sometimes I'll ask places for no PB and they still put it *insert angry emoji here* but this place respected my peanutbutterless açaí bowl wishes The Aztec mocha is HELLA spicy LOL. Like I can handle spice and was told it was spicy by the cashier but was taken aback by how spicy it was. Like ppl usually say something is spicy, and it doesn't end up being spicy. The Aztec mocha is like if you went to a hot chicken sandwich place and ordered a medium spice sandwich LOL. But still really delicious. they have parking which is always a plusss I just remember trying the downtown location once and I wasn't a fan, but maybe that's bcuz I ordered an iced tea lol. Overall delicious drinks and açaí, good customer service, and beautiful outdoor atmosphere. Would def be back! read more

Matcha donut - this was really really sweet. The matcha doesn't come through very well. It was very moist though. The rose pieces were a little odd. Scone - much bigger than I thought, a tad bit dry. Okay overall. PSL - this was overpowered by the spice on top that kept getting caught in the back of my throat. I didn't like the overall flavor on this one. It also took quite a long time to cool down enough to drink. Kyoto brew - this had good flavor. read more

Met a friend here for coffee and breakfast. My friend found a hair in her breakfast and took it up to show staff. Not only was that gross but what was extremely disappointing was that even though staff apologized there was no offer to refund her the breakfast! This spot is now off our list for the future. Solid option for coffee in the area! I got the lofty style Nola which is basically a vanilla cold brew and thought it was pretty good. It was a little watered down but that might have just been an off drink. I liked how the chicory flavor wasn't too strong but you can still tell it is there. I went on a Saturday late morning and there was a bit of a wait not only to order but also to get the drink. I got it to-go, but there seemed to be a few seats available for those who want to stay and enjoy the scenery. Parking was pretty easy as well. read more

Lofty curious.~ This coffee shop is super cute in Solana! I have had this on my radar for so long and finally came by here to check it out. I was rather disappointed on my first experience here recently. They have ample seating, but get very crowded here. You order up front and find yourself a seat! I suggest grabbing your seat and having one person get in their long line to place the order. My coffee which was the New Orleans was nothing special, not sure if we I just came on an off day. I ordered their poached eggs which looked like a big hit, but were rather not. I love poached eggs, but these were rubbery whites and firm yolks- definitely overcooked!! I was looking forward to it being gooey-but-still-runny yolk to drizzle on my bread, but that was not the case. Luckily my friend shared her Avocado Turkey Croissant so I got to nibble on some and enjoy that one more than my own order, yikes! read more

The line was long but I wanted to try their coffee. Finally we get to the window to order a drip coffee and an almond croissant which was right in front of us next to the cashier. We took our number to the stool table and waited .. and waited. Finally we receive the regular no fantastic fancy drink - drip coffee, but where is my almond croissant? I went back to the cashier area and asked what happened to my croissant - one of the workers apologized and gave me the croissant in a bag. The coffee was good but we were disappointed with the cold croissant which should've been warmed up. Oh well as least we gave it a try despite walking out disappointed. read more

PROS: + extensive menu of drinks and food + spacious + friendly staff + cute merchandise + outdoor tables upstairs and downstairs + convenient location if you want to take a stroll before/after coffee run CONS: - parking Great coffee in Solana Beach! It's so far up north so we don't go often, but will definitely come back for their more "exotic" drinks like the salted caramel latte when we are in the area! read more

30 minute wait for açaí bowl and yogurt parfait. Coffee is all medium roast. Want to love it. Wanted to support small business. Ordered a milk and it was half full? No idea why. Coffee lid did not quite fit on my cup (yes I know how to put a lid on a cup of coffee) and so when I took a drink, it dripped out the side and left my white shorts spotted. We spent a total of 45 very long minutes between ordering and leaving. So plan your time accordingly. I will say, their chocolate chip cookie is amazing. Also, the yogurt parfait was definitely excellent! read more

Cute little find in the center of town. With a large patio that is eye catching when driving by, it's hard to miss this spot. I love the openness of the store as it flows to the patio. Very welcoming. Organic is a major plus. Then in talking to an employee I found out they make some items in house. I choose the mocha latte for that reason. It was amazing. Presentation was also fantastic with a little "art" on top. My friends ordered the almond croissant and that was probably the best pastry i've had in the US. So moist, so fresh and tasty....just unique and delicious. We shared it between the 3 of us, but I could have easily devoured my own, it was that good. I ordered a Chai Latte for my husband. It was a to-go order and I really should have tried it before I left. Sadly, it was so watered down we could barely even taste the Chai. :( Luckily overall this place was great! read more

I really want to love Lofty. Everything I order is just short of being really amazing. They make their own oat milk but really... should they? It's so hard-core. It's really punishment to drink. They need to stop this. The only thing truly outstanding is their cinnamon roll which isn't even available during the week for some reason. Lofty will do in a pinch but there is so much better, innovative coffee elsewhere. read more

Very polite service. Nice indoor/outdoor seating and they were quite lively for a friday at 11:30. Coffee was average at best. Salted caramel latte was incredibly milky, could barely taste the house made caramel i was so excited for. The pumpkin spice latte barely tasted of pumpkin or cinnamon. Both were hard to appreciate especially considering wed recently had outstanding versions of each just a few days ago. Most folks wont be disappointed here but Id go out of my way for better options. read more

Gets really busy at the weekend but super nice for breakfast or lunch during the week when it is quieter. Single origin espresso americanos are my favorite. Had the açaí bowl this time. Really liked that there was loads of fruit, but found it a bit too sweet for me (the granola was very sweet and suspect it's not pure açaí used but some sort of sweetened version). read more

Lofty is a locally established brand which I appreciate very much but it is not the best. The coffee drinks are very sweet, and the regular coffee is bitter a little bit like the brews from Starbucks. They make their own pastries which is no easy task but my croissant was a little dry and the filling wasn't very flavorful. They make their own syrups and if you get a flavored drink they're a little bit better than the regular drip coffee I'm bummed because they're everywhere and these coffee shops are super cute and super popular but I wouldn't say they are the best in San Diego. read more

So my first experience ever at lofty coffee : This place was pretty packed. It's open and outdoors with a hipster vibe. Lots of seating but it fills up very quick. Not a whole lot of parking though. The lady at the register was very nice, I've been a barista for years so I'm kinda picky and was taking a little time to really look through the menu. I got the Mocha and the American Panini. Everyone there was super nice but the price was kind of insane. $5 for a coffee fine but the food is like $11+ and they don't give you a massive amount of food.. the panini comes with a salad on the side which honestly did not taste good at all. NO SALAD FOR ME there.. but the panini.. WOW! I was very impressed!! As well with the mocha. They only have dark chocolate but if you need to sweeten it they have sugar. It was very frothy and delicious! The pastries looked very enticing as well! That will be for next time for sure! read more

Coffee is great, skip the food. Very small portions and over priced for what it is. The "poached eggs" are just hard boiled eggs for $9, ordered it twice, same both times. If your "chef" doesn't know how to POACH an egg, take it off your menu. Service is good. read more

My friend wrote a review based on our experience Sept. 28 2024 at the Solana Beach location and I see the owner (?) accused her of lashing out and lied about the manager "trying to make it right". We were in yesterday morning but when I found a hair in my avo-hummus toast, I brought it up to the front counter. The woman who literally only replied, "oh do you want us to re make it?" I said "no" (ick), she took my plate and walked away. Then I walked back to our seat. They had a line of several people otherwise I would have gone back and asked for a refund. I called just now and the helpful person agreed to refund my card. Meanwhile, I hope the owner who responded to my friend on here takes a cue from how to treat customers (especially women) and not use language like "lashing out" when all we are doing to expressing what happened. We won't return to Lofty, SD County has myriad better options! read more

This location is perfectly located near my workout studio so getting a refreshing coffee after is a ritual for me. This Lofty is located in the arts district so if you do not want to stay seated in their (usually busy cafe), have a leisurely walk to see home decor and other art. The Lofty is all open air. And therefore, very dog friendly. My pup loves to visit because he is given a treat by the employees each time I get my coffee treat. Yes, sometimes the cue to order a coffee is long. And sometimes your handcrafted coffee can take long because this place is very popular. I find their prices reasonable because all their alternative milks are organic and made in-house. The pastries are made by Lofty as well. My favorite is the gluten free organic vegan chocolate chip cookie. For savory, I like their egg dishes and cauliflower bowl. read more

My favorite coffee spot in San Diego. The homemade almond milk is unmatched to anything else and their coffee is soooo smooth. Each of their locations are charming and perfect for a lunch or work away. There are so many gluten free and dairy free options for foods and drinks including pastries and sandwiches! As a coffee junkie, I can appreciate good coffee and this is not shy from being fantastic coffee. There's so much about Lofty coffee that I appreciate. It's a quaint coffee spot in downtown Solana Beach and has very great design element with such a great feel. Their coffee smells and tastes amazing. I will definitely be purchasing some of their coffee beans to try at home in my espresso machine. Our first time there, we tried their pumpkin cold brew which is pictured and it was amazing! It's topped with crumbled graham cracker and compliments the drink well. We also tried their iced salted caramel latte which was good but I liked the pumpkin cold brew much more. If you're in the Solana Beach area and live coffee, you HAVE to try Lofty coffee. You won't be disappointed!! read more

Lofty is still my favorite coffee shop in the San Diego area and the Solana Beach location is a cute shop. They have a dedicated parking lot as well as street parking. Service is impeccable (not a surprise) and the coffee is exceptional. This trip consisted of an Iced New Orleans topped with a mint sprig. The drink was strong, a hint of sweetness and creamy. Their iced teas might also be my new favorite as well. Their Moroccan mint and also the hibiscus is soooooo delicious. Love love Love Lofty! read more

This is my first time trying Lofty and I was so excited after reading all the reviews and seeing the nice ambience. I ordered a salted caramel latte and a cloudy with a chance. The drinks looked great when I got them. However, I tried the salted caramel latte and I did not taste any flavor as it was really watered down. No salted caramel notes and the coffee wasn't as strong as many of the other cafes I've tried. The foam for cloudy with a chance was good but as I got down to the cold brew itself, it had such an acidic and rancid flavor. I love getting cold foam cold brews at coffeeshops but this one disappointed me the most. I don't know if this is an off-day for the cafe or if I just tried the wrong drinks, but I probably won't come back again. read more

Back in 2019, Starbucks had a seasonal cherry mocha for Valentine's Day that I was obsessed with. Apparently I was the only one, because they haven't brought it back since. Cherry mochas are hard to come by, and I haven't really encountered another one. This one was delicious! The espresso was bold, the milk perfectly creamy, and the overall taste not too sweet (unlike Starbucks'). Wow!! I can already tell this will be a drink I daydream about. Unfortunately it was $7.50, which will prevent me from indulging very regularly. The rest of the menu is pricey too, with avocado toasts nearly reaching $20. (I may be a millennial, but I can certainly understand the negative stereotype when I see coffee shop prices like these.) Besides pricing, the other downside of this place is the limited seating. There were only 4 small outdoor tables, so unless you're with just one other person and you arrive before 10am, I'd suggest grabbing your coffee to go and taking a walk. My friend and I sat down, since there were open tables when we arrived. She enjoyed her iced honey cinnamon latte. If you love a cherry mocha or are looking for coffee in the design district, definitely come through!

High quality coffee with unique flavor combinations. This coffee shop has definitely improved in the five years since I was here last. On this trip, I went multiple times because it was so good. My favorite was the Cloudy with a Chance of Cold Brew, but everything we had there was good. I also love that you can walk with your coffee straight over to the beach and enjoy a good view with your coffee, but the shop itself is also a cute spot to hang out and enjoy the weather with all of their outdoor seating and shade sails. read more

Went to this place this morning and it might have been my worst experience in North county so far. So much for saying everyone is friendly here. The girl working the register was flat out rude. The coffee was so acidic I dropped it in the trash and bought another one at the great coffee roaster down the street. I heard the girl at the register mock a guy for leaving only a $1 tip. Then apparently she had a problem with me asking for a lid for my coffee. WTF? It was like being back in New York City. read more

I got a muffin and a small coffee to go and left the dollar tip that baristas actually mocked me. Wow, thanks for the dollar. I would never return here. They don't always take the time to explain things. To be honest it's more like they just want to take your order and move on to the next customer. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5. Great drinks and quality beans make it worth visiting, but the higher prices and inconsistent service keep it from being a regular favorite for me. If you love good coffee and don't mind paying a premium with okay service, it's still worth checking out.

Coffee's great, love that the pour over comes in a carafe, making it feel extra fancy. The sausage+egg+cheese croissant is a GOAT breakfast sandwich. I wish they had the ham version that the location across the street has (or, at least, had -- haven't been there in years since I like this spot more). They pass the "do they date the beans?" requirement, but fall victim to a less critical pet peeve, where the beans are located right below the register. So I have to wait in line, only to hold everyone up once at the front to look at the options. Putting them somewhere to the side of the line, so people can browse while waiting is the way, or even somewhere outside the line altogether. It's hard to understand how such a painfully obvious no brainer can be overlooked.
