Taking slugger to his first breakfast at The Log Cabin.
    Jeffrey S.

The Log Cabin is a Schofield staple. My wife and I enjoyed open-faced beef sandwiches at their original location, but they have become our favorite breakfast place since we returned. Last weekend Jenny and I went there for Mother's Day. We took a seat at the diner counter and ordered our usual. I had their meat lover's skillet and Jenny had their French toast. Let me be transparent and say they were SLAMMED because it was Mother's Day. The negative parts of this review have nothing to do with being slammed, but thankfully the story has a happy ending. The waitress took our order quickly enough, but it took a long time for our food to arrive. I watched our ticket sit on the far left of the ticket holder (they moved them right-to-left) with the line chef paying no attention to it. During this time we watched as other couple's who ordered after us received their food. Our waitress was also nowhere to be found. But the coffee was good. I also witnessed a first. A unique feature is that you can see the cooking line from the counter. That makes it fun, but it also means you get to watch the "fun" when the head cook argues with a waitress frustrated because he is skipping all over the ticket line, resulting in only halal the food for a table of four being done while the other ticket hasn't been started. Never thought I'd seen an episode of Hell's Kitchen live, but when the waitress told the head cook, "This goes with this, like I frickin' told you a bunch of times." When our food finally arrived, it became clear that the waitress was either deaf or just not listening. They made the French toast on sour dough instead of giving her a side of sour dough toast. And my over easy eggs arrived over hard. The waitress explained that she thought we had ordered them that way. I have never ordered eggs over hard, so I know I did not misspeak. This is where is the story gets better (though she actually had to ask me, "Do you want them to make another one?" Really? When the next skillet arrived, the eggs were perfect, and they heaped on extra hash browns, cheese, and meat. It was incredible. Overall, the experience was not what we have come to expect, but they made right their mistake. The arguing, long wait for food and waitress miscues detract from the excellent food. I will consider avoiding that waitress on future visit. Hopefully the next review can return to a 5.

Good breakfast. The corned beef hash was out of a can. Nothing fancy, but that is what I was expecting.

Service was also friendly and super efficient, with food made quickly. We were also happy to see there was a steady crowd coming in on a Tuesday night and the staff had no problems making sure everyone was taken care of. We started with the Taste of Manila Egg Rolls because we were so excited to see that something lived on from that restaurant which we miss. The egg rolls were quite tasty and the slaw and sauce just pulled everything together. For our main meals we had the M&O Melt with onion rings and the Red Hot Spicy Clucker with fries. I was happy the the spicy chicken sandwich actually had some heat to it and was full of flavor. The fries were also nicely fried. The M&O Melt was also tasty, and the onion rings were a favorite. Fried nicely so that they had a crunchy bite. It's always a plus when the onion doesn't come out all at once or separate from the breading. These were quite tasty and we definitely recommend the curry ketchup. It added a whole new flavor dimension to the onion rings and fries. Overall, can't wait to try some more menu items next time we're in the area. Definitely recommend.

However, they do have an ATM on location and frankly, the food quality is so good that you're not going to care. At this point in time though, I am going to safely say that it is probably my favorite breakfast place in town.

So, extra stars for being dog friendly and having a lovely outdoor patio space with shade. Also extra points for having a pretty comprehensive dog menu in addition to the human menu. Their beer menu was extensive, but nothing sounded great from the selection. I was driving anyway so decided to go with a mocktail. They have a decent mocktail menu too, which I always appreciate. I got some kind of coconut mule, knowing that I didn't love coconut, so while it wasn't my favorite, it was actually pretty clever and the coconut added an interesting element to the drink. If you like coconut and you like mules, I cannot recommend enough. The chicken sandwich was decent, I wish they had a grilled option, but it was good and I finished the sandwich. Fries were good, too, and my pup really enjoyed his plate of plain grilled chicken. Our server was nice and made sure to get him some water too as soon as we sat down. Aside from the dog love, food was mostly stuff I could get at most burger sports bar type places, but it was still good and would be a perfectly fine place to go for dinner and a game or something.

They replaced the meal but I was still very put off by this. I have not eaten at Era ever since. I thought about giving them another chance so we celebrated our anniversary with brunch. We arrived around noon and it was still pretty busy. It seems like they are always busy and there is no real "slow" period. We had to wait for a table but was only a 5 minute wait for the two of us. The waitress was very polite and upbeat which made the experience more enjoyable. I ordered the Nashville chicken & waffle and the girlfriend ordered the country fried steak. We also order the mimosa flight; the pineapple was our favorite. The order came decently fast for how busy it was. The food was amazing. The potatoes with the country fried steak were incredible. It was a good sized steak with a good amount of gravy; the perfect ratio of meat to gravy. The chicken and waffles were very good. I liked that the hot sauce came on the side. The waffle itself had very good flavor. The breaded chicken was cut into strips and there was a lot of chicken provided. The combo of the sweet waffle with the spicy chicken really hit the spot. I would say that Era changed my mind from my first experience. We had an enjoyable and delicious meal - we will be back.

Most of the issues could be fixed with better training. Or maybe just have a server that didn't act like she was in such a rush to get to the next table. We definitely didn't feel seen. I ended up not eating the soup because I like my pizza hot. The food holds this place up for the most part. The Pizza is really good. Great crust, awesome tasting sauce and very fresh ingredients. And melted cheese like we're in Wisconsin!! The Rib Mountain burger has a really good grill taste and was cooked well. Not overdone but just right. My wife ordered the poor man's cod. This was the worst experience. The first serving was overcooked so bad it was like cardboard and we had to send it back. The second one was better but still a little over cooked and under seasoned. Just ate it because everyone was already half way through their meal. Our drinks were delivered but never refilled or serviced once until we finally asked.
