We love the Log House. Friendly staff. Wide selection. Good diner-style reliable food at a reasonable price.

My girlfriend and me make the trek to the Log House for breakfast every once in a while. It's about a 40-min drive but it's nice country. The buffet is great. Worth every penny. Yeah it's true that if you catch it right, some of the food can be .......cool instead of warm or hot. I guess that's to be expected with a buffet. I will say that the cooking/serving staff does their best to keep things fresh and plentiful. Great waitressing staff. Ya gotta try it! read more

What's not to like about the Log House. Go here for morning breakfasts on Mondays when everyone else is closed and any other time mid week. Dinners are great with the occasional live band on weekends. Country atmosphere and better than any Cracker Barrel chain restaurant with home cooked meals. read more

This restaurant is absolutely amazing. The log cabin feel is charming and the country clutter decorations suite this place well. We went at around 11am so half of our group ordered breakfast and the other half ordered lunch. No one was disappointed. The burgers had so much flavor and the fries were cooked to perfection. Our waitress was very friendly and we could not be more pleased with our experience here. We'll definitely be coming back! read more

Wow this place takes you back to the prefast food era and delivers exactly what you expect for a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs with crispy home fries -without being too big headed about it. The locals all must keep it a secret because it doesn't really tell you much from the outside appearance. In fact i was hesitant because it was not bragging about its food from the road (as it should). This is the way it used to be way back when Diners where reliable. Breaks my heart to rate them as effectively "meh." My husband and I have been coming here for years. In the last six months, the service and food have significantly declined. Today I ordered an omelette with corned beef hash and cheddar cheese. What I got after quite a long wait was an omelette with almost no cheese (2/3 of it had none. The other third had a few shreds) and a side of hash. The side of hash error I can understand, but not the lack of cheese. In addition, we arrived at lunch time. We looked at both menus. The mushroom and cheese omelette my husband ordered from the breakfast menu was two dollars cheaper on the lunch menu. We were charged the higher price. I understand there being a different price for lunch and dinner portions, but the omelette is the same on the breakfast vs lunch menus. The server did not check on us once until after we were done eating. The breakfast buffet is still worth coming for, but we've been several times for lunch or dinner recently, and it's no longer worth the 15 minute drive to come here, even with the good (if apparently inconsistent) prices. read more

Very unhappy. Went there for an early (4:30pm) dinner with my 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter. We were made to feel unwelcome, when another patron (who is there all the time, we have seen her) complained about my granddaughter being a kid and not sitting in her chair. There were a grand total of 9 people in the dining room, 3 being us. We happened to be finished and leaving anyway, so that was totally unnecessary. Their ad says they are a "family restaurant", but if you aren't going to welcome children, then please change the ad/website. It wasn't the first time comments or "looks" were given to us, but it sure as hell was the last. If i want mediocre food, and less than clean surroundings, I will go somewhere else. Let me say at the outset: If it's haute cuisine you're looking for, or the latest Asian/fusion cooking fad, forget the Log House. You aren't going to find anything like that, here. The Log House also is not the most romantic place. Things can move fast here, too, so don't count on having a long, leisurely dinner. I've been coming here since the place opened in the 70s, and can honestly say I've never had a bad meal. It's simple food, made simply, and a lot of it, all done very well. The menu is large, so allow me to offer some highlights: 1. Steaks are excellent, and reasonably priced. 2. The Italian dishes are also good. 3. They have good sandwiches as well; particularly the reuben. 4. They're famous for lobster rolls (although I don't eat seafood, so I've never had one and cannot offer insight of my own). 5. I've also known folks who love their scallops. 6. The "diner meals" (e.g. pot roast, hot-open sandwiches,etc.) are particularly good, if they're up your alley. 7. The cole slaw is excellent, as are the pickled beets. Again, this is not a "celebrity-chef" restaurant. It's not fancy or pretentious. It's just a basic place to eat a good meal. No more and no less. Note: The menu has a wide range of items, and most things are available all the time. The more expensive entrees go over $10, but it's easy to find something for less than that, even at dinner time ... so I clicked on 1 dollar sign for "price range." read more

Stopped here on way to a show in Norfolk... Friday night, fairly busy, so thats a good thing. It seems like there are a lot of regulars... also a good thing. Atmosphere a mix of rustic log cabin and a touch of "diner", with both almost looking like some updating would be in order. It was not off putting though. The atmosphere had more of that "comfortable worn in jeans" feel not an "eww let's find someplace else" feel... so in we went... There was a lounge on one end where a live act was playing some folky music. Wasn't actively listening to it but I remember it being nice enough for the background... I got crispy chicken sandwich and fries, dad in law got chicken caesar salad and french onion soup. I was told the soup was very good, not salty... main dishes were fine, nothing wrong with them but also nothing memorable. Lot of waitstaff and our waitress was nice, again a good thing, but, the service was pretty slow (thankfully we were not in a hurry)... I did have to track our waitress down to get the check though... So, decent enough for a bite for sure, just be sure it's leisurely and you're not in a hurry. More efficient service would've earned a fourth star. read more

DISGUSTING is the only word to describe this place. Flies and ants inhabit this establishment and I don't think they've cleaned the place since the 80s. This place is just dirty and dingy. Food is truly the worst I've ever experienced and waitstaff is incompetent. Do yourself a favor and drive by this one. read more

We weren't sure what to expect based on some of the reviews, but my husband and I very much enjoyed our lunch here yesterday. I had a BLT and my husband had a hot dog, both with fries. My BLT was one of the best I ever had, and the french fries and hot dog were delicious too. The rest room was very clean, the waitresses were very friendly and efficient, and we left very satisfied. I've been visiting this restaurant for over 30 years and it is a solid pick. The food is always great, a vary extensive menu with something for everyone. A great place to bring your family and enjoy some great food. From the Yankee Pot Roast to the Turkey Club sandwich, it's a favorite pick. read more

Nice staff, usually very friendly and attentive. Good breakfasts, good prices, but there needs to be a focus on cleanliness. Sadly, an update is needed. When a place has been in business for this long, attracting mainly locals, they feel part of a success story when an establishment puts money back into the restaurant. They feel even more a part of that success when patrons can say; "See? Supporting this place has finally paid off. They have new tables and walls and floors. We know the place is clean, and we know all our hard earned money is working for us." That's the true payoff. But this restaurant hasn't been fixed up in a long while. It's time to pay back their loyal customers in a way that they can see and be proud of. They will likely invite more and more friends if they see progress. Breakfast bar is good. This restaurant is problematic: sometimes it is spectacular [the HOMEMADE pies, the reuben sandwich(!!!!)], sometimes it is so-so, and sometimes just boring. The food is always ample, however, and the staff is very friendly. Pick wisely and you will enjoy it very much. Do not expect more than a diner setting. read more

The food is decent, but the restaurant needs an overhaul. I may stop in there once a year and it always smells the same - bad. Tables are old, worn and sticky. Typically need to have a folded up paper under one leg. What's sad is the owners have worked so hard for many years to keep this restaurant going and their loyal customers will keep going. But with the atmosphere they just won't attract and keep new customers. If they could revitalize the décor they'd really have a solid future. read more

Unfortunately 1-star does not even do this place justice. The service is horrible. The server completely messed up the drink orders, proceeded to forget about the lunch orders. After an hour brought out 2 of the 7 dishes; the well-done burger was raw. After being questioned in front of others claimed we weren't there anywhere near an hour and threatened to call the police (Oh but I'm having lunch with a local police officer). Completely incompetent, managment should evaluate hiring and retention policies. I will personally ensure their legacy ends shortly. read more

This place actually holds a special place in my heart as it was my Grandmothers favorite restaurant. I used to come here often with her to eat. I did however learn long ago to stick with breakfast which luckily you can have all day. They usually do a pretty good job with breakfast. A couple times I have had some under cooked eggs but for the most part they are consistent with what they serve. Have had a couple of sandwiches that were pretty good too. Unfortunately I think they tend to use a lot of frozen items on their menu and not a lot of fresh ingredients. Anytime I have ordered an entree off the menu it's usually served with some sort of frozen or possibly canned vegetables. Usually lukewarm and overcooked. My grandmother passed away in 2014 but I will continue to bring my family here to eat if not for the food but to remind me of all the meals and good memories I have had here with my grandmother. read more
