    Turkish dessert

Delicious Turkish coffee. A small shot goes a long way. They give you a small sweet treat to drink with your coffee. It's a perfect combination. Plus they have delicious baklava. So good!

This place is amazing! There are wonderful teas and desserts to choose from. They are so delicious. Everyone is super nice and friendly. They can help you with anything and any questions that you may have. The store is beautifully decorated. There are many gift options as well.

Let's Goooooooooaaaaaaaaalllllllllllll Simit!!!!!!!!! Thank you Hassan for the wonderful hospitality and sharing stories while we had coffee, chi, and amazing food. You have created a wonderful family environment on State Street.

I tried the oreo and tiramisu Turkish delight. The oreo one was really good and had a nice crunch to it because of the cookie crumbs, but it was still soft and sweet. To me, the tiramisu didn't have much flavor and reminded me of fondant. The shop is really cute and the service was nice.

Lokum made me nostalgic for Istanbul! It is a fun dessert place and not only located in the heart of State Street! They have a bit of everything Turkish: wide array of baklava and lokum (Turkish delight), decadent desserts (Dubai chocolate is an option!), simit, Turkish served tea and coffee. You can grab some to bring home or offer as a nice gift. They have tables inside and outside where you can enjoy dessert with tea served in glasses like in Turkey or coffee. They also serve breakfast which is nice if you want something different. You can buy Turkish tea and coffee to make at home. Attentive service, water from the house, prices are a tad high. Great place for a nice treat, the Turkish kind! We need a similar shop in LA!

First time in a Turkish Cafe. Beautifully decorated like with all the Middle Eastern Touch. Amazing service. Variety of Baklavas and desserts was impressive. We ordered a Turkish Iced Tea and a couple of Baklavas to taste. Sweetened perfectly and the baklava was made to perfection. I didn't try the coffee, but it did look like an original Turkish coffee. They had outside and inside seating.

Such a unique experience. Step into the flavors of Turkey. Turkish delight Turkish coffee Turkish delicacies Turkish lighting Turkish ambiance Turkish service They take American money but everything you buy here was made in Turkey. Had a great time sipping Turkish cardamom coffee and eating some Narnia delights.

tl;dr upscale candy shop meets home goods store at this unapologetically Turkish cafe; come for the confections, stay for the baklava and coffee Lokum, more commonly known as "Turkish delight", has been a staple candy across the Middle East and Southeastern Europe for centuries. These jelly-like confections range from creamy to fruity to nutty and tend to be served in bite-sized cubes. So, what happens when you devote an upscale cafe concept to this traditional treat? You get LOKUM, a downtown Santa Barbara coffeeshop-candy store opened by brothers Bulent and Levent Derdiyok in 2020. From the outside, LOKUM mostly blends in with the rest of the Mission Revival architecture along State St. But one step inside and you're transported to Turkey. The opulent decor is punctuated by showstopping candeliers hanging from the soaring ceilings. A handful of wood epoxy tables separate sky-high shelves of Turkish coffee/tea, pastry staples, and homeware. The dark marble candy/pastry display is richly colorful. Meadows of pistachio-sprinkled baklava sit right up front, while a rainbow of forearm-length Turkish delights run the length of the restaurant. Eighties pop echoes around the space. Expect a quiet cafe around opening, but a bustling bistro by mid-afternoon. My partner and I popped in twice during our visit to Santa Barbara. On both occasions, the staff were quick to offer samples of Turkish delight and halva. My favorite varieties were the standard Pistachio Honey Turkish Delight and the chewy "Narnia" series; some of the more adventurous flavors simply had too much going on. While we didn't end up purchasing any candy, we did opt for the next-level strong Traditional Turkish Coffee and the Kadaif Extra Pistachio pastry. The kadaif (a shredded phyllo pastry soaked with syrup) was generously layered with crushed pistachios. The portion felt modest at first, but the sweet, rich flavor satisfied within just a few bites. The prices were notably steep: our pastry and coffee both approached $8, while the Turkish delight went for nearly $40 per pound. However, the overall experience was decidedly positive. For a unique cafe, stellar service, and mouth-watering eats, look no further than LOKUM -- but don't be surprised to feel tempted by the toothsome treats.

When traveling, even if just a road trip, calories don't count, right? At least they don't for me which is why after dinner, when walking down State to burn off some calories, my friend and I wandered right into Lokum. After all, dessert is never optional ... I love Turkish Delights and Baklava. And this place has them both! And more. I knew I was going to buy a box (see pics) and the staff still offered me samples. I tend to know what I like when it comes to these snacks but there were a few I hadn't had before (at other places, of course) as this was my first visit here. Cool little spot to hang out and have snacks and a warm beverage (think coffee and tea) but know it's not a large seating area. No table service. You'd have to order at the counter, then wait for your order. At least I didn't notice a hostess or servers as I was too focused on my snacks. Again, see pics. I forgot to snack and share some with my friend later that evening but they were still awesome the next day and the day after. Still had the soft chewiness, kinda like gel - meaning it didn't harden like a rock. And the taste still was nice and sweet and everything still melted in my mouth. I know they have another location and whether I'm up in SLO or back in Santa Barbara, I'd definitely stop in and grab more.

This is always a must stop when I'm in town. My husband spend more than he should but it's his favorite candy. I love the Turkish delights. If you've seen Narnia then you'll know how good it is. Staff was really kind to my daughter and let her try a sample that she was eyeing. They also have a delicious dubai chocolate cake that is absolutely Devine. It's sweet but not overly sweet. I wish Lokum was not so far from the Bay Area otherwise I'd go more often.

Rose Pomegranate Pistachio Turkish Delight and Turkish Tea
    Dominique M.

This rose and pomegranate Turkish Delight was so yummy! I had never tried a Turkish Delight before today and I really enjoyed it. Rose and pomegranate are some of my favorite flavors so I knew this one would be good. Also the tea had a nice bitterness that balanced the Delight. I loved the set up of the cafe it was cozy and laid back. The workers were also kind and got evrything to us quickly.

Turkish delight was yummy, coffee was tough tbh, it was true Turkish coffee but a spoon would have been nice to mix it. You're better off getting just the regular Turkish coffee and not getting the special flavors. We got the chocolate and hazelnut and didn't notice a difference in taste.

What a treasure. This space is beautiful, carefully curated, and immersive. These guys should hold a masterclass on ambiance, like for real. There are SO many choices for sweets here in such a vast variety of flavors, there's literally something for everyone. And the baklava looked absolutely divine. My husband and I came in on a mission to get some Turkish coffee (strong, sweet, and slightly gritty). They had it available in both hot and iced...but then the Ottoman caught my attention. The Ottoman sounded like the extra upon extra, super indulgent coffee experience. Strong coffee with the gritty grounds, cream, pistachio, terebinhts (pistachios but make them feral), mastic (tree resin), and carob. And it was extra. It reminded me sort of like a more angry mint chip. My husband expressed that it tastes like a tree. Perhaps an acquired taste. But definitely a unique experience for those who are okay with curiosity getting the better of them!

Is it just Turkish coffee (a bit strong for me) or do they also make lattes, etc?

Perfect Valentine's Day Breakfast Stop…read more Every time I'm driving into Los Angeles, I stop on State Street to charge my car -- and today (February 14th ) we decided to grab breakfast while we waited. Best decision ever. We stumbled upon this adorable donut shop, and they had the cutest Valentine's-themed donuts decorated for the day. My daughter immediately chose the chocolate one. I honestly didn't think she'd love it... but she ate the entire thing without hesitation. That says everything. Of course, I grabbed some donut holes for the road -- because that's just tradition at this point -- but the real star? The bagel sandwich. I ordered a jalapeño cheddar bagel with egg, crispy bacon, tomato, red onion, and (because why not?) extra cheddar. It was DIVINE. Hands down the best bagel sandwich I've ever had. Perfectly toasted, flavorful, just the right kick from the jalapeño cheddar -- I'm still thinking about it hours later. I may have to stop again on the way home because I genuinely can't get that taste out of my mind. If you're passing through State Street, do yourself a favor and try this place. Absolute gem.

GET READY FOR A TRANSCENDENT DONUT EXPERIENCE…read more Just off State Street on Figueroa, you'll find a donut shop that feels more like a craft breakfast kitchen with a serious pastry soul. The owner's love for their craft, staff, and product make for an inviting ambiance you don't find in many establishments in their class. DON'T MISS BREAKFAST Their menu goes far beyond donuts, blending whimsical, flavor-forward pastries with substantial breakfast sandwiches and bowls featuring bacon, turkey sausage, and mouthwatering, fluffy eggs that taste like they've been kissed with something buttery, creamy, and completely unforgettable. PASTRY IS IN THEIR DNA The first sign you're in the right place? Walking past stacks of pastry flour on your way to the donut counter. Nothing says "this is going to be good" like seeing the foundation of the craft right there in front of you. And these are not airy, forgettable donuts. These are brioche-style, flavor-filled, butter-forward creations that deliver exactly what the menu promises. CHOCOLATE CHERRY ALMOND OLD FASHIONED (OH MY) The Chocolate Cherry Almond Old Fashioned is in a class of its own. It surpasses every old fashioned donut I've had, with a light cake base, a low-oil profile, and none of the overly craggy, greasy edges you get from a less thoughtful donut. This is pastry territory. The chocolate and almond are subtle at first, then the cherry arrives with a dramatic full tastebud activation -- sweet, salt, fat, and bitter all working together. The cherry blooms at the back of your mouth like springtime near the Capitol in D.C. or a Japanese cherry blossom landscape. It's where cake and donut collide into something that redefines the experience for kids and kids at heart. SNAP-CRACKLE-POP TREAT WITH AN UPGRADE THAT'S SWEET The Brown Butter Rice Krispie Treat Donut is another five-star execution of both concept and flavor. The Rice Krispies are real -- not decorative. They sit in a marshmallow flow atop a lightly sweet donut that oozes buttery goodness, with just the right touch of salt to elevate the sweetness and add that extra delight on the palate.
