I was so excited to find this place when walking around Santa Barbara before dinner. I love baklava so much and was so excited to see they had so many options to choose from. The service was incredible too! If you weren't sure which one to choose they let you sample and taste and if you know the texture and flavors you are looking for they offered perfect recommendations. I chose to go with both the traditional pistachio, kadaif pistachio and juicy walnut baklava and then we also tried the mango square pastry which I can't remember the name of which was also remarkable! We randomly stopped by this shop to try some pastries. I'm so glad we did! ATMOSPHERE: Very peaceful and relaxing. Not loud. EMPLOYEE: The person that helped us when we ordered was friendly and kind. The person that brought out the drinks to us was very nice as well. LOCATION: It's in a closed off street where you walk and shop, eat, snack, mingle and listen to music from ppl that post up. Very nice place to spend a day. You order what you want and they hand the pastries to you on a plate if you will eat them there. For drinks, you sit down and they bring them out to you. If you're drawn to lights and strong coffee, this is the place to be. I passed by this place a few times, always itching to go in, but not daring to. I finally gave it a shot and tried the Turkish Coffee for the first time. It is strong and luckily, I've built up my tolerance over the past few months. We happened upon this delight while walking along State Street in Downtown Santa Barbara. It was so beautifully decorated and the staff was very attentive. I have frequented Lokum for the last year and a half. From taking friends from out of town to visit, to making the hour and a half drive to pick up Lokum for myself, to purchasing boxes to ship across the country to family - I have went far and beyond to support Lokum as an establishment - and today will be my final time. I noticed after my last visit in August, Lokum no longer had the same Turkish feel as it once did. The employees had changed and didn't know their products they were selling and my Turkish speaking husband could no longer speak to them in native tongue, either. A bunch of young high school kids had been hired. But - we still came back to support. Tonight, upon entering there were 4 employees behind the counter. One who was seeming to work (in a beanie) while the other three proceeded to EAT the Lokum directly from behind the glass case. Yea, you read that right. They cut the Lokum and proceeded to eat it directly out of the case. I stood by and watched all three of them snack away while the one employee continued to work. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. When it was my turn next to order I proceeded to do so with hesitation, only to watch the employee cut my Lokum in large chunks and snip them right into the box off of the scissors. There was no small cuttings and placing them nicely among one another like they usually do. It was messy and rushed. I was shocked. He noticed how upset I was and he could care less. I paid and left. After walking out I realized there's no way I can bring this to Christmas dinner. I walked back in to find the same group looking right at me. I walked up to them and asked them if I were to RE ORDER if they would cut them in normal bite size pieces and place them nicely in a box, NOT shove them in as they should be doing so. The girl laughed and smirked as she walked away and the guy proceeded to agree that he would do so if I re ordered. $100 later and a new box I walked out with two orders of Lokum due to your employees bad service. Doesn't seem too fair. You used to have a great establishment which felt like home, now you have a bunch of teenagers who are running your business into the ground. I would take a better look into this Lokum. You have staff acting like animals, your place is filthy, eating out of the case is a health code violation, and your staff is speaking badly about their customers. Seems like the gentleman eating out of the case himself was a manager too. Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. read more

For all sweet tooth out there, this is a great place to expand your palate culturally. If you are a pistachio lover, this will be heaven to you. Lots of honey too added to their baklava options. Great ambiance as if they will transform you to Turkey. The opulent chandeliers made of glass and tin hangs grandiosely from the ceiling as its centerpiece from above. Introduction: Lokum, a place where I have been ordering my Turkish Delight from online for a good while now. They're based in Santa Barbara and about two weeks ago I was in the neighborhood and I decided to finally pay them a personal visit. When here although their lokums [Turkish Delights] are good, I recommend getting their walnut baklava and Turkish coffee that's laced with mastic [a type of tree resin] when here. Food: Walnut baklava: I love a good baklava; I prefer walnut baklava more so than baklava made with pistachio. A good baklava is primarily dependent on two things: the filo dough it's made with has to be flaky and thin. Second, it has to be made with honey as opposed to other sweeteners such as corn syrup or rose water. The baklava at Lokum is spot on in all regards: one tastes the minced walnuts along with the thin filo dough and the purity of the honey with each bite. It pairs wonderfully with a cup of Turkish coffee. Drink: Turkish coffee with mastic: I tried a few cups of their Turkish coffee when here but my favorite has to be their Turkish coffee with mastic. It bears the aroma of ginger and cardamon and the brew bears a slight spicy kick to it with every sip. What's good about this coffee is that unlike others, it doesn't drain you. By that I mean usually coffee is a diuretic, once you drink it it causes the consumer to urinate more often; however, with this Turkish coffee it doesn't. I was perfectly fine after drinking it which came as a surprise to me. In addition Lokum treats its patrons right here in the sense with every cup of coffee, they pair it with a piece of lokum on the side. To me it's a matter of hospitality; I have been to other Turkish establishments and when it comes to coffee, they serve solely the coffee and without the lokum. When that happens, I, as the patron, feels cheated in the sense I am not being treated wholly right. Luckily at Lokum they take care of their customers. Ambiance: Spacious, clean, tasteful, and organized Service: The staffs are polite, friendly, and accommodating. Price: Affordable. read more

We stopped in for some coffee and to try something new. This was definitely a unique and new experience - I've only had Turkish coffee a few times and if you're not aware they're supposed to be very strong. The shop is nice, grand, bright, and with nice products all around (coffees, teas, various drinkware and sets, etc). They sell coffee, teas and all kinds of baklava and treats. Great experience and customer service. While browsing the menu we were offered a sample of one of their lokum's. We did a couple Turkish coffees served with a couple Turkish delights and water. We stumbled upon this establishment while we were waiting for our dinner reservation on a weekend getaway in Santa barbara. What drew me in to this establishment was obviously the decor, because it was so fancy looking! We went in and the guy behind the counter was super nice and really patient with us because my husband didn't know what to get and when he finally chose he kind of asked if he can have one of the baklava that was located in the middle of the tray LOL because it had a lot of chocolate and the guy kind of laughed but was nice enough to actually poke a hole in the middle of the full baklava tray. I ordered two more different types of baklava and they were all really good. Obviously it's a bit pricey but I'm okay with that only because it was a nice spontaneous buy in a really nice place. They gave out samples to help people understand what they were selling. OMG yummy. I tried a few and bought a box. I then went back later and bought another box for my girlfriend. Another of our State Street finds was Lokum, a Turkish delight, baklava, and tea shop. It is a beautiful shop with tiled floors and an exotic feel that transports you to Turkey. They have large displays of Turkish delight and baklava of so many different types of flavors. For the turkish delight, there is no minimum purchase and they will, with biggest scissors you have ever seen, cut off as much or as little as you want. The flavors are both traditional and modern and we mixed and matched. Lokum Turkish Delight & Baklava was the highlight of my trip to Santa Barbara this weekend. It was so good that we went for two days in a row for dessert. The decorations at this establishment are spectacular, like nothing we have seen before, ceiling chandeliers, fully stocked shelves with coffee, glass display cases full with a large assortment of baklava and turking delight. What a beautiful place! I loved seeing all of the Turkish coffee and coffee making tools! When I walked in, I really said "wow" out loud. You'll definitely have to stop by to see for yourself. I don't know that I have ever actually had Turkish Delight before, but I shall harshly judge all other Turkish Delight, based off of what I had from Lokum. I tried a variety of what was offered... lemon and pomegranate Turkish Delight, walnut Baklava, and sugar fried ball of awesomeness, Turkish Delight with nuts, a rolled piece with a center filling, and a pistachio roll (this one was not my favorite). I really enjoyed my selection! Lmao fulfilled my childhood dream of eating Turkish delight (bc of Narnia). This place has a bunch of Turkish sweet treats with really unique flavors, and the interior of the store is absolutely beautiful. Just seeing their displays was mesmerizing. You pay based on weight of the items you get -- kinda expensive but it's 100% justified bc these desserts seem intricately made and seem to use high quality ingredients. They have both cubes of turkish delight and these delicious rolled turkish delights (flavors such as marshmallow/nutella, hazelnut, etc). I thought the flavors were hit or miss tbh, wasn't a fan of any marshmallow ones but thought the hazelnut was incredible. I didn't try the baklava but my friends did and thought it was delicious. I love the interior design here - The tile, the light fixtures, everything! So elegant and well put together. Heard much about Lokum through Instagram and I told myself that the next time we were in town that I'd stop by to try their baklava. We paid $3 for a small serving of the traditional baklava (gently topped with ground pistachio). A little expensive but it's to be expected ... we're in Santa Barbara on the busiest street downtown. The flavor and texture that I'm used to with baklava has always been 'too sweet' and 'hard' which is probably because I've always purchased baklava in prepackaged portions like at Costco or at the grocery store. Lokum's version is fresh and unlike any that I've had before. It's authentically good! Not too sweet, chewy and very flavorful. The turkish coffee is served as a shot but it's so dark and rich. Any coffee connoisseur would appreciate the boldness of it's flavor and so concentrated that it will definitely wake you up! Lokum is definitely a place to enrich yourself in a different kind of dessert experience. It's worth another visit the next time we're in Santa Barbara. read more
