Unprofessional. We drove 30 minutes to get to this place and arrived at 420. They close at 5. As soon as we walked in the door they asked if we had an appointment? We said no. They said unfortunately they are done for the day. You have to be kidding me. This was actually our second time coming here. First time was good but early in the morning. We were never told we needed an appointment ever. Didn't need one the first time. Not a good idea to turn a potential repeat customer away at the door when you are a walk in facility and do not close for another 40 minutes. read more

I rarely write bad reviews. Prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt that I may have caught them on a bad day. But, this place is Horrible - I want to save any child from having the experience my daughter did today. First off, I had read some reviews before going in and knew that there were some concerns with this place. My daughter usually gets her hair cut at home but we were donating for chartiy so I took her to get a professional cut. I called in advance I believe I spoke with the daughter as she was nice and helpful. The day of the cut, we walked in and the salon did have a kid-friendly setting. A playroom upstairs, car-seats for cuts, and the Frozen movie playing. My daughter sat for her cut but was a bit nervous as she's shy and usually gets cuts at home. The woman giving the cut was fine at first and asked my daughter a few times to keep her shoulders down and back to the chair. However, my daughter is 4 and was more focused on the frozen movie. The women then physically very aggressively pulled my daughters shoulders back and down and then kept tellling her - "keep this down" "Stop stressing, put your shoulders down". "No TV for you, I need you to look down". I didn't appreciate the way she was handling my daughter so I started interjecting and telling my daughter how she needed to sit and that she could watch her favorite movie when we got home. Then I told the lady that she should let me know what was needed and I would talk to my daughter (in a kinder way). The woman tried once and then got really defensive. Told me she was a professional, she needed to do her job and she wasn't "hurting" my daughter. I told her calmly at first that she was actually being very agressive with my daughter and all she kept repeating was "I have to cut her hair, I'm not huring her". She wasn't willing to listen - was pushing my daughter down and back in the set. Kept pushing her head down to get her to look down, and then was yelling at my daughter "Stop being stressed!". Clearly this woman wasn't listening, had no concept of self-awareness. I stopped the appointment mid-cut and took my upset daughter and just left. This salon has no concept of customer service and in no way should be dealing with children. The only professional action they took was that they didn't charge me after I announced that I'd be yelping about their horrible service and manner. Absolutely horrible place. Again - they should not be allowed to work with children. read more

If you want your kid to have cuts and bruises then this is the place to go. The lady who did the haircut to my son was too arrogant and rude and has no patience at all, she was just slamming through (though there was no other kids getting or waiting for the haircut at the shop) and cut my kid's ears inspite of we telling her to do it slowly, she just won't listen. It takes skill to be able to cut a screaming kid's hair and not F it up. They charge more than going to Supercuts or any other Asian-run salon, but they should--they have to deal with wiggly and crying toddlers! Annie is the the shizzzzzznit. She gives my squirmy son consistently good haircuts. His hair has the tendency to look bowl-cutish if it isn't cut and styled correctly. Annie takes our concerns into consideration and my son's hair always looks fresh! We've had others at this salon cut his hair, and they were good too. I used to recommend this place. But will not be going back there. Pro: they have super quiet trimmers. Lots to play with and tvs for distractions for active toddlers. only $16 CONS: a bit rough on the kids like squeezing the head to get into cutting position. yells at the kids, unfriendly. only accept cash. never once saw them clean the cars .. last visit my son got in after a kid coughed throughout their entire cut. parking lot is tight and at times you have to wait for a spot the younger lady review: EACH of the past THREE cuts my son (under 2) has left with BLOOD on his neck and by his ears from the trimmers, (noticeable cut marks left on skin for several days following the trim) the haircut looks CHOPPY and unfinished even when I try to guide her to fix it before leaving. The older lady (possible owner) cuts quick and well .. but is rude and handles the kids roughly. I'm now trying new places. Terrible customer service. Disappointing since this place gets good reviews. Here are the reasons for the 1 star 1. Bedside manner- the woman cutting my sons hair knew it was his second hair cut and did not engage him at all. He was crying and terrified at the clippers that she insisted on using despite our instruction otherwise. Also the place is filled with toys but she did not even engage him until the end of the cut. I don't know why she cuts kids hair if she is unwilling to engage a child. 2 do not follow your instruction- we said no clippers and leave a little length. They used clippers and gave our son a very close bowl cut. 3 customer service- I complained to the manager during all of this and she completely dismissed me. She said this is how we do hair cuts. I said you are not listening to your customer. She rolled her eyes and smiled. Terrible experience and will never return! read more

I wanted to speak up a couple of years ago when my then toddler got rough treatment here, and I was told to not comfort him when he cried (all toddlers cry during haircuts - it is heart-wrenching). Now, after going to other places I know better and that I am right - you CAN give a haircut to a child with kind words and gentle touches. It may not stop the crying but it will at least keep the child from getting traumatized. But the ladies at Lollipop haircuts do not believe that. Doing that would probably take up additional minutes - and now why would they do that to their super brisk business! I did speak up yesterday - for another crying toddler who was getting the usual rude treatment of loud, harsh orders. I was informed - with yelling - that: - this is her policy - don't you know the blades are sharp - she was not yelling (all of this was yelled at me) - let her do her job - she appreciates my business but... (in other words go elsewhere) Well! I should mention that it is never a nice thing for a child to have to watch someone yell at his parent. I did not yell back - as someone has to set an example for the kids, right? The only reason I kept returning here is that they have toys upstairs, and their haircuts are good. My son no longer cries during haircuts - but he still resents the rough treatment. Just a few kind words will get a positive response from any child - but they don't seem to believe in conversation. Just business. Even a simple request on the style of the haircut was met with stoic silence, and with what was clearly a glare. Customer service here sucks. I am glad I did not bring my toddler here yesterday. Going forward, I will take my kids to another place - where they don't get all bent out of shape when a parent gives some input, and where they show respect to all children. read more

So I've been coming here for a year now and usually the owners daughter cuts my daughters hair, but the owner this time was soooo rude! I was a few minutes (literally) late and the owner had a cow!!! She told me that I need to specify at the time of calling what type of hair cut I wanted and tell her how long I'd think it would take. Even though I mentioned to her son when booking the appointment that I wanted a bob. She then said she care about her next client more so since I was 4 minutes late. What an obnoxious woman. The hair cut itself was fine. But the manner in which it was done was not. Don't let the cute decor fool you, the stylist we had was not in any way properly trained to work with children. After putting my child in the seat she begins touching him and begins the haircut with no introduction or explanation. The situation was making my toddler nervous so I began narrating what was happening to keep my child calm. All the stylists should, before the haircut, simply look the child in the eyes, smile, introduce themselves, and state that they are going to begin their haircut. This would take mere seconds and it would put children at ease. Anyone working with kids should know that you do things "with" children rather than "to" them. This includes diaper changing, feeding, and most certainly haircuts. this is ESPECIALLY true when you are a stranger touching a child. How would we, as adults, feel if someone suddenly came up and started touching us with no explanation as to what was going on? The child next to us was crying out of fear during his whole haircut. My child was not crying out loud but was trembling in fear due to the abrupt touching with no introductions, no smile, etc. The employees of a place that serves children would greatly benefit from some re-training. The way they interacted with the children was disrespectful because no effort was made to communicate with the child, only the parent. read more

This is the worst place for kids hair cut !!!!!! I took my son ( one and half year old) for hair cut. The lady was so impatient that she didn't give a chance to boy to sit properly. She did not even single time talk to kid, neither hello or any smile. Kid started crying but she didnt took a pause and applied force to control kid. I interrupted asked to wait a min, but she asked me to hold kid tight, he is un-controllable. When boy grabbed me, she started cutting hair forcefully. At that point I got mad and stopped her. I have come here many times and always wonder whether I should go back. It's not the haircut that's off-putting. As others have mentioned, it's the attitude of the owner that's difficult to contend with. If everything goes perfectly, you will not have a problem. But if there are any problems - your child is fidgety, haircut uneven, etc, and you make any comments or suggestions regarding them, you will be quickly put in your place and denigrated. I have been here several times. It's not the cleanest place but, they were fast. In the past we have had decent experiences, but today was not a very positive one. The haircut my son got is certainly not the one we asked for. When I discussed this with the manager, who is also the person who did the cut, she said she had to do it the way she wanted it because whoever cut his hair before did a terrible job. I've been taking my son to Lollipop Cuts for over a year now and the service is caring, the quality of the cut has been consistently good and the amenities are better than going to a Supercuts. My son loves the playroom upstairs and the cars to sit in for the haircut itself. It's a little pricey but considering my son is occupied for at least an hour there while I catch up on work emails or enjoy my coffee, it offsets the cost in my books. read more

It seems as though the people who take boys here have a good or okay experience, but with girls it's not so great. I will consider taking my son here as it is the most convenient kids salon to our house, but for my daughter I'll make the trip out to Kids Salon at Camden & Union in San Jose. My daughter even said after her haircut "I like the place with the pink jeep better!" We arrived at 9:30 (without an appointment, which would have been the smart thing to do). The hair stylist and I believe her husband (perhaps the owners) arrived about 9:40, which was okay considering that we didn't have an appointment. The couple was friendly and he led my 4-year-old daughter to the DVD selection and she picked out a Dora DVD to watch. She got to pick which car she wanted to sit on for her haircut (she picked the pink one, of course). The biggest problem is with the setup of the store for girls hair cuts. For an even cut, girls need to look down for most of the hair cut. But when Dora is on TV, and the TV is up above the seat/car (at the level of an adult's head standing up), it's hard to convince a 4-year-old to not look up and watch Dora, but instead look down in her lap. Perhaps the investment an iPad with movies loaded on it would be wise for girls hair cuts. The hair stylist kept getting annoyed that my daughter kept looking up (duh, Dora!). Eventually we were able to get a cute hair cut, but I didn't like the attitude of the hair stylist (my friend who has a boy had the same stylist and loved her ... maybe she's not a morning person, or maybe it's just because my 4-year-old is not perfect at following directions). But ultimately, she did get a cute cut, hence the 2 stars. read more

I had the same experience as Anna M, maybe even worse. This was my 1 yr olds first haircut and my hope was that the stylists at a kids salon will know how to cut a baby's hair better than the stylists at a regular haircut place. I was so wrong. The stylist that cut my sons hair didnt know any english so it was tough to communicate wih her - not even simple things like the legnth of the haircut etc. then she kept cutting hair without trying to calm him down by distracting or talking. I started doing that and the next thing i know she was holding his face really tight such that he started screaming, tears down his face and she kept cutting hair. My son needs a haircut every 6 weeks and we've been coming here for the past year and a half. The ladies who work here have a good set up and get the job done. Between the movie playing overhead, the nifty vehicles that the kids sit in, the lollipop at the end of the cut, and the play area in the loft above, there is plenty to keep kids entertained and motivated while getting their hair cut. The lady asked my son chin down, chin down all the time while she was moving around in between answering phones and cutting my son's hair, which eventually caused me to start worrying that my son might be hurt due to the rush. The lady said that she is professional and I did not need to worry about my son. I requested her not to answer phone and concentrate on cutting my son's hair if she is professional. She said she could do multi task because she is professional. She started to vent a lot as I could tell that she was not in good mood today. Anyway, at this point I realize we have different understandings about the word professional. HORRIBLE!!! Saw the cute decor a couple of weeks ago and decided to give them a try. That was he only thing good about it. Complaints: A - Hairdresser did not even ask what we wanted done B - Like the other reviews my son complained that it hurt and they were not sympathetic at all, he was told repeatedly to sit still C - He left with 3 nick marks on his neck and actually left in tears D - Probably the worst haircut I have ever had any of my boys. I will need to take him somewhere else to finish up the job, the front of his hair is two lengths with several uneven spots in the back of his head Not to mention the haircut was $16!?!?!?!?!! They off all types of cuts and have a very colorful display. On deck they have cars for seats and a nice little upstairs area for kids to play in while they are waiting. I forget the name of the lady who cut my less-than-2yo baby's hair, but she just didn't listen to us. She did a great job on the hair...at first. Then when she was told the cut was perfect, she kept going and messed up the exact haircut she was asked for. On top of which she was NOT gentle on the baby's head. She jammed her comb into the side of his forehead hard enough to leave indentations, and scratched the other side of his head with her clippers. After sitting quietly for the entirety of the cut he finally had enough and began crying. I have cut his hair with clippers myself and have never had this problem; looks like I'm going back to doing it myself. Since I can't recall her name my only advice is to observe how the various ladies treat the children before picking one to cut your child's hair. It is cash only (although I saw someone paying by check), but you must remember that it is a value at $17 for kid's haircuts and just get the cash beforehand. The staff is so patient and kind - my 5 year old daughter is somewhat fearful and shy, yet her stylists have never once lost their cool with her. They are upbeat yet soothing - the whole place is completely kid friendly. Before trying this place, I got away with cutting my daughter's hair myself, but after I tried cutting my two year old son's hair myself exactly once with disastrous results, I realized that I needed to leave this skill to the professionals. I have brought my kids here twice, each time with an appointment, and they have been prompt to serve us - prioritizing us over the walk-ins. My son is usually finished first but there are plenty of toys to keep him distracted until his sister is done, and the free lollipops were a huge hit. Cute Shop! but horrible customer service. Both of the hair styles were constantly speaking in a different language while I was asking them a question about my girls' hair. Second, they kept telling my girls to sit still and not to watch TV so why they have to turn on the TV on the first place. Third, they did not even bother to hair style the girls' hair, they blow dried it very fast and just put on a little hair clip on their hair and some type of hair glitter with out even asking me for permission. This was my son's first haircut, and my girlfriend and I's first visit to this type of strictly-for-kids hair salon, so I don't really have any basis for any comparison. I did find the overall experience to be very good. We did a walk-in at about 3pm on a Saturday. There were a couple of kids ahead of us and another appointment walked in, but they said it would be 20 minutes, and that's about how long it was. We waited in the upstairs loft area without a problem as there were plenty of toys to keep my son occupied. He was eventually seated in a neato red retro convertible and the haircut went through pretty much without a hitch in about 10 minutes. The hairdresser did a great trim exactly to our specifications. He went from Abbey Road to With The Beatles like that. No complaints here. Yeah, she might not have said much while cutting, but ya know, for me, I'd rather her be how she was, steady and concentrating on holding his head steady and anticipating possible sudden movement when doing cuts near vulnerable spots like eyes and ears. Also got a free First Haircut Certificate with some of his hair for his baby book. All in all, I would go here again, remembering that I should make an appointment and that they only accept cash or check. read more

My daughter who is three has had several haircuts here, and we had decent experiences. BUT this time it was late in the day. The stylists gave my daughter no time to warm up and just came at her with the scissors. Of course this scared her to death. She didn't ask my daughter her name or try to engage her at all. When the first stylist couldn't get her to cooperate, another woman took over with the attitude that she'll get the job done no matter what. She told me to get out of the way and leave my screaming child. But I knew if they just gave her a little time to get used to the place, she'd be fine. I asked for 2 minutes to calm my daughter and was told no, they had other clients. (No one else was there or came after us.) When she calmed down a bit, I tried to tell them how I wanted her bangs. The stylist brushed me aside and cut it completely short and exactly the way I DID NOT want. They did give us the haircut free but that's beside the point since I absolutely hate this cut and there isn't time for it to grow out for holiday portraits. We won't be back. Every time I have taken my daughter here they have treated her and myself very well. They understand what I want and give her a nice look. I've been bringing my son here for several years now, probably since he was in preschool. They remember him and call him by name. The cuts have always been good, and the price is moderate--$16. I've occasionally taken my son to other salons, and paid more and paid less, but we come back here. They know him, they cut his hair well, the game room keeps him occupied if we don't have an appointment and have to wait, AND there's a See's Candies in the same shopping center. Went there for the first time today. Cute little place. Nothing posh, but they have decorated it really cute and it's super pleasing to a child's eyes. Love that they had the loft with toys for my other little one to play during the haircut. I thought the stylist did a great job. She was quick and efficient and everyone's happy when you get a lollipop at the end! My daughter and I like the place so much that I nominated them to BAY PARENTS magazine. Be sure to ask for Annie for your kid's haircut. She looks very friendly to children. She has a way to frame my daughter's face better than other stylists we visited in the past. My daughter loves the playspace upstairs, so we always stayed for another 30 mins or so to take advantage of the toys we don't have at home. 18 bucks + tips is on a high price end, but we think it's worth it!! Good barber for little kids. They have a play room for the kiddies if you have to wait, a pretty big LCD screen with a DVD player with some 20 kiddie DVD's to choose from, toys, books, puzzles, etc.. they have cool "car" chairs the kids like to sit in while getting the haircut, and finally they have a bunch of lollipops for rewards. Our 1 year old got a good haircut with minimal crying. The price is competitive compared to other kid-oriented barber shops in San Jose, but still somewhat expensive in my book. read more
