Hands down, this will be my go-to cleaner as long as she's working. Easy, simple, cash only (maybe a check too) cleaner that gets your order done well and with care. I had a large order (my annual trip with all my winter sweaters and sweater dresses) and she got it done in less than a week. And held it for me when I couldn't come on the right day. Reasonably priced. I hope she stays for a while and I appreciate that she's only open a handful of days a week. Efficient business! read more

Helen is the best wardrobe helper I've ever found/met. I've lived in NYC, LA, Philadelphia, and SF, and I've tried a lot of dry cleaners, most with obscene prices for shoddy work / unimpressive results. Helen is the opposite - her prices are very reasonable, and she's very responsible, responsive, and careful to point out what she CAN do and what she cannot. She is the epitome of "under-promise and over-deliver." I almost didn't want to write this review because I do not want the secret to get out! Her spot is a bit hard to find - you go into an office building and take the elevator down to the parking level, and her shop is in a small alcove in this parking garage. It's not street level and there are no signs, so you have to go on a bit of a journey to find her. I would love to use Helen more, but the one single issue I have is that post-Covid, her hours have become quite shortened. Pre-Covid, it was ~8am to 2pm every weekday, but now it is on Monday and Wednesday, 8 to 1pm. So she has very short hours and it is difficult to make that time if you don't work nearby. My office moved from SF proper to the suburbs, and I refuse to seek out another dry cleaner, so I am now forced to try to work around Helen's hours. Oh well. I just bite the bullet and do it because it's too hard to find another gem like Helen! read more

She's also very thorough and transparent in explaining the work she's going to do to your garments when making alterations -- she clearly communicated that she didn't have the same stitch as my dress so it might look a little different. WOW, I'm so glad I found Helen's Place. My daughter's wedding dress was badly stained on the bottom from walking (and being dragged on the floor) during the wedding. I researched to find a dry cleaner who is experienced and affordable. I spoke to Helen on the phone, then later brought the dress in for Helen to check. After examining the dress, she told me that it will be difficult to clean since it was badly stained and dirty, and they need to be careful not to damage the beadwork. She said they will test clean a spot with a new chemical to see how well it works and to provide me a firm quote after testing. I'm so pleased to say that the dress was cleaned and available for pick-up ahead of schedule. It looked LIKE NEW! OMG, and the the cost was 50% less than the competitor! Helen is a professional with many years of experience, communicates well, and the dry clean service is excellent. I highly recommend! She will be my "go-to" dry cleaner from now on. Helen is an angel! I came in with a ball gown that needed dry cleaning and she told me the bead work might make it difficult to dry clean. She took extra care to make sure I knew the process might damage some of the beads, and told me that she would do a test treatment to see if they could handle being dry cleaned before she did the whole dress. You can tell she takes a lot of pride and care in what she's doing. My dress ended up fine, just one bead fell out and she saved it for me in a little bag. For the past year, I have really cut down on clothing shopping, so it's been my priority to find someone who would take good care of our dry-clean only garments. We simply don't have stacks of back-up outfits, so I was relieved to see that Helen is the lady I can trust! I love going to Helen's place. It is literally an underground gem! It is in the garage floor of 505 Mont. I started using Helen's last month. It took me over 15 mins to find this place. But once I got there, Helen noticed I was a new customer and thanked me for using her service. I was very impressed with the cleaning! I had shirts that needed to be pressed for a wedding for my best friend and 2 groomsmen. Us men are procrastinators :) The shirts were still in the original packaging and Helen offered take care of removing all the pins and cardboard in the shirts. Everything was very affordable. Best in FiDI IMO. She is my go to dry cleaner now. Things to know! Helen closes at 1:30PM. The elevator to the garage is inside 505 mont next to the bank. Helen! She is so great. I really love her work. She cares a lot about it and my stuff always looks great. She is a bit quirky, but I like that about her. Keep in mind that she only takes cash (because she does not want to up her prices on her customers because of the credit card fees). I adore Helen, even if she still doesn't remember me although I'm a repeat customer (4+ times). Oddly enough, she does remember my clothes - just not me. I guess it's because I'm Asian. Wait, no, shut up, you racist. #1 reason why Helen is great. Her dry cleaning prices are incredibly reasonable. #2 reason. She's good at what she does. Point out the stain. She'll ask you what it was. Despite answers like, "uhm. I don't know," she removes them from delicate fabrics like silk. I can't comment as to the quality of her tailoring. Review for hemming job. I brought in two pairs of pants (black work slacks and a pair of jeans) to be hemmed. Results were very sub-par. The hems of the jeans bunched up and the seam was uneven. The spacing of the stitching on the slacks were uneven and the hem didn't lie flat. Not worth the couple bucks saved from bringing it to a more expensive place. read more

Brought in a simple dry cleaning job - fresh, light stains on polyester - and it was easily the worst dry cleaning I've ever received. Minus the garment being wrinkle free, ALL of the stains were still there at the same shade. When I pointed out the stains, Helen immediately went on a rant about how I shouldn't go to her if I don't trust her and told me to take my dress and never come back. The best part was when she scolded me for being irresponsible because I got stains on my clothes in the first place. Her reaction was so extreme I tried to talk things out with her but she didn't give me a chance to complete a sentence and dismissed me without any effort to reconcile the situation. This was actually her second chance on my part because I had brought in a different dress earlier - again, mediocre stain removal and she actually added a stain from the solution she used. Re: pricing, it's reasonable but not super inexpensive - there are places on the fringe of Chinatown just a couple blocks away that cost the same and must do the same or better job since it can't get much worse than clothes coming back as dirty as when you brought them in. I think the only thing Helen's Place is good for is pressing clean clothes you don't care much about. And avoid when it comes to alterations! Admittedly I haven't taken anything to her to get adjusted, but that's because people from my office have warned me not to use her. Pay a little more to get the job done right - not try to save a little only to get bad results. Disappointing work and HORRIBLE customer service! read more

If you can find it, this place is awesome. Just go into the Latham and Watkins building and into the small elevator on the left into the basement. You should be able to find it from there. I never did anything fancier than having a pair of pants sowed, but Helen always got the job done, and it was quite cheap. She is extremely friendly and always anxious for more business. read more

Dry cleaning service is good and cheap but it is never on time. Repairs are really good and cheap but again never on time. Make sure you always check the repairs before leaving because she might have forgotten to do something. A hidden gem this is! I needed a local Fi-Di spot that was affordable but didn't think I would find anything. I did my Yelp research and thought I'd give Helen's Place a try. She is wonderful and friendly. Her prices are so reasonable it'll make you justify bringing all your clothes to her. I went in with an urgent hem job, she directly took me into the office space, measured my pants and said she would rush them and have it done in 2 days. Helen is great. Located in the parking garage (go down the elevator inside the building on the left). I highly recommend the work - I have had several hems and pants let in/out, ties repaired, etc. The work has been done very well, the price is extremely reasonable and Helen is very professional. The only two downsides: 1) due to her limited space, you do use the restroom for the changing room, but it is always very clean and right next to her shop; and 2) she is only open until early afternoon, so you have to make sure you get over there by the end of lunch break. This is my place to get tailoring and dry cleaning service downtown and the price is cheap in comparison to others. Highly recommended. read more

I was thrilled to find Helen's Place, a petite shop in the basement of a high-rise less than a block from my workplace. BEST dry cleaner's east of Golden Gate Park. Helen runs this shop and is really sweet, has the BEST prices and turns items around very quickly (1-3 days). As of August 2017, it costs $4.25 to dry clean one regular clothing item (i.e. dress shirt, women's blouse, suit jacket, suit pants, blazer, pants, etc.). She does NOT charge extra for suits (men or women's). However note that certain items do cost more like dresses ($9 and up depending on material/length/layers) and coats, etc. She has very limited hours (M-F from 8am - 1:30pm) but for her prices, I go out of my way to have my dry cleaning done here. I live in SOMA where dry cleaning a men's 2-piece suit costs anywhere from $15-20, compared to the $8.50 Helen charges. read more

I found Helen based on her very positive Yelp reviews, which are not too easy to come by for a dry cleaner. I have tried several dry cleaners in the financial district and in Berkeley and Helen's prices are by far the best. Pants and blazers cost $3.50 each and a dress costs $7.50. I have paid twice that for other dry cleaners in the area. She is also very friendly and detail-oriented. She carefully looked over everything I dropped off to make sure she wasn't missing anything. She is a small operation so I dropped off my items on Thursday and didn't get them back until Tuesday but that really isn't too long and totally worth it. When I went to see her last she said she was going to have to raise her prices because she hasn't been getting much business. Please help keep her in business because I need a good drycleaner that won't bankrupt me! Yes she is located in the garage and her hours aren't great but she is definitely worth it. read more

I've been bouncing around at various laundromats downtown / the financial district and decided to try Helen out. She was really friendly and very attentive to my clothes. She spotted oil stains in shirts I didn't even notice! Helen isn't a same day place as she hours are only 8am-1:30pm M-F, but she's very good and cheap. It's a drop off place located in the parking lot of this building. You walk into the lobby and go automatically to your left to the single elevator that will take you to the parking lot. Wow, I finally found a place that can hem pants for less than 9 bucks. Helen was so pleasant and nice. It's very difficult to find a place that is reasonably priced in downtown SF. Helen was very sweet and was able to get every single spot out of our shower curtain. The sink is very close by which makes it an easy target for tooth paste, makeup, etc. Because this was a fairly expensive Pottery Barn shower curtain, I decided to have it cleaned versus buying a new one. She did a fantastic job and only charged me $18 to remove all of the stains (eyeliner, mascara, self tanner etc..), launder and press. This place is somewhat hidden. You have to go into the 505 Montgomery building, to the left you will see Shuttle Elevator. Take that down to "G" for garage, go straight and turn left at the valet stand. Thank you so much Helen. Just wanted to reiterate my review of Helen's Place from 2010... she's still the best! I now work south of market and still walk for 20 minutes to get my cleaning done from her. Prices are still stellar: 3 jackets = $11.25. Total. Seriously in 2014?? Best customer service - always superior... she will offer to send a garment in again if a stain didn't come out, and will sew buttons on you didn't even notice were about to fall off and not charge you a cent extra. She's not the one-day-in-and-out variety, but like a fine wine, the best is always worth waiting for! read more
