Frank, the owner, came on time to do a chimney sweep for us. Upon his evaluation, he realized our chimney was still clean and didn't need to sweep yet. So it was no charge and reminded us to call him back in 5 years. He could have done the work and charged us the full price and we wouldn't have known the difference. After someone finally picking up the phone at this business (called numerous times a day), set up an appointment, and a tech arrived. Tech stated that a fireplace in a bedroom is not up to code -- even though Londom Chimney Services were the ones who installed it in the first place - they would still be able to repair it with a liability waiver. Signed. We provided a check. Several days later, I called asking for when the tech would come out. The guy on the phone first said, "OK, lets send you the proposal so you can accept the price." I told him that a check was already given and cleared. He didn't see it at first, but, then realized it was in fact paid for. Everything seemed to be OK. Another day later, same guy calls me and says that they can't do the work because it is not up to code. They will send a check back to refund. I then ask the guy, "I am still waiting for the referral about fixing the glass, at least." The guy said the owner is the one who has it and is swamped and will get back to me. A week later - NOTHING. These guys are an absolute joke. Don't waste your time with these people. read more

The operation manager and technician's verbal report indicated that out fireplaces were in pretty good condition and would not require a lot of work to bring it up to safe conditions - just replacement of chimney caps and rusted exterior ducting. When we got the written report, it was sparse and lacking detail, to say the least. But it did indicate that almost $8,000 worth of repairs would be needed. It never really said for what. This is *after they canceled our first inspection appointment an hour and a half before they were due to come to the house. Save your money. read more

The guys that came over to do the work were awesome! Knew their stuff, cleaned up etc. The reason only 2 stars you wonder? I got several other bids for this job that were at least $100 less. $295 is not cheap. But that's not the point. The most irritating part is I made this appointment 1.5 months ago and when they called to confirm the appointment time, they told me I was incorrect and that the time was noon. I even have a confirmation email that said another time and I had schedule 3 other big projects at my house for that day that all needed my attention. I don't have much free time and this was really off putting. I just had a vibe that the guy on the phone telling me my appointment was at noon was just covering up some kind screw up on their end and knowing I'd had this appintment for 1.5 months I would probably just let them come whenever they want instead of giving them heat for breaking our appointment time. When we finally connected with Maria Llamosas (admin asst), she informed us paperwork had still not gone in and that rep who came out to the house was no longer with the company. Additionally, they acknowledged we were overcharged by $155 for the initial visit. We requested a quote for the part and repairs. After some resistance, London Chimney did share the part details -- they were looking to charge $250/hr for labor (est 1.5 hrs required) to install. We declined and requested a refund for the $155 overcharge. This was on Dec 3, 2020 -- no word since. read more

Yes, yes, yes! Compared to the other company I attempted to do business with these guys were superstars. A friendly employee answered the phone when I called, and immediately scheduled an appointment for a fixed time the following business day. WAY better than the multi-hour appointment "window" the other guys had proposed. Tony, the inspector, actually arrived early then waited patiently for me to get there at the appointed time. He was in and out in no time. We got the inspection report at the time of the inspection, so we are good to go! read more

We had two Majestic gas fireplaces installed in 2000 go out at the same time and Mike from London came out and fixed and spruced them up to where they look new again. Other companies said they couldn't be fixed and we would have to rip them out along with our walls to the rooftop! I am so thankful I called London Chimney. They repaired our chimney for a considerable amount of money on a rental property of ours. After the repair, our renters complained of smoke coming into the home (which did not occur prior to the repair). Another company who came to clean the chimney (as the renters thought it just needed a cleaning) commented that the liner was too narrow. When London returned to give us an evaluation, they charged us again and recommended over $6000 in work to rebuild the rear wall (which I'm not sure how this relates to the smoke issue). What a rip off! Firstly, their installer charged me a $350 deposit, for what I have no idea, to pay to install the overpriced insert? Then he told me the install would be between $1500 to $3000 and no more, but when I got the written estimate it was $3700 so I canceled the order and was out $350. The customer service was so horrible and the inspector did not do his job and used vulgar profanity to me. Winter 2016 we were renting a unit at The Cove while our home was under renovation. One evening we lit a fire and the next door neighbor and was smoked out and when they lit a fire vica verca. The unit under us was vacant and the one on the lower lever received smoke from both the upper units when we used our fireplaces. London Chimney came out December 23rd to work to fix the problem. The service man came to our unit and the lower unit and cleaned them both out and said both were dirty from non use. He was wrapping and I asked about the other two units and he said that was not on his service order and could not help. I very nicely asked as you are here can you please take a look as it did not take much time to clean the units. It took him about 15 minutes to clean our unit and 20 the other. I told me no and to mind my own business. I walked to the Cove property mgmt office and asked if they could help. When I came back 15 minutes later the service man was still there chatting with our maintenance man. I was perplexed as to why he would not take care of what needed to happen. He called me incredibly rude names and told me I was putting my nose where it should not be and to mind my own business. I called the company and spoke with Mark. He they said they were super busy and as it was a few days before Christmas they would look into it and get back to me. They did a fantastic job replacing and updating our gas fireplace about 15 years ago and then I recently had to call them to assist with getting a bird out of our fireplace, which was very stressful. They sent Jaime right over at a discounted price, who found/saved two birds that had gotten stuck inside, removed the nest, and fixed the vent to prevent future nesters/birds entering the fireplace. He also checked out our gas elements while he was down there, which it turned out needed replacing, and they didn't charge us extra for the visit even though they were originally out there just to remove the birds. It's great to have a company like this in your neighborhood that always delivers high-quality service. read more

I had the strangest experience with this company. I hired them to do an evaluation of a chimney & fireplace in home I was thinking of buying last fall. Mikey and his new assisted arrived promptly and did a terrific job, having recommendations to improve the safety of the chimney & fireplace, along with an estimate and an offer to deduct the cost of the initial inspection from the work for the fireplace/chimney. Shortly after wards, I bought the house and moved in at the end of November. For the next 6 months, I tried to get an appointment for them to come out and do the work, but was continually stonewalled by one particular person who regularly answered the phones there. It was very odd. First, he told me that he would have ask about the discount because he wasn't familiar with that policy and told me that he would call me back. Then nothing. I called back a week later and he said he had trouble finding my paperwork on the original inspection and that he would call me back. A couple more weeks go by and I finally get a call. He leaves me a message saying he's still looking for the paper work & will get back to me. I call him again, and leave him a message. A couple more weeks go by and nothing. I call again and he tells me he doesn't remember our earlier conversation regarding the missing paperwork. I call again and leave a message, but don't receive a call back. I call again a couple of weeks later and get him again and still he can't give me an appointment for what ever reasons and tells me that he has to call me back. Nothing again for a couple of weeks. I try calling again and get a different sales associate who refuses to help me since this other person is "handling" my case. She tells me that she'll give him my message and have him return my call. Of course, I get no response. I call him again to leave a message and never hear anything from him. Apparently, he's now avoiding me for reasons which are mind boggling, since it's not like I've ever been anything other than ridiculously patient and understanding (beyond reason) with this guy. This literally goes on for over a couple of months--my giving him the unfortunate benefit of the doubt because the work is pricey and I'd really like the discount based on my earlier inspection. Weeks go by and I try calling in the spring to get services done and am told that there are no appointments available for several weeks and that's that. End of story. No attempt to accommodate me. Rather, I was met with utter indifference to my business, which is sadly the rule of thumb these days. At that point, I've had enough and decide to look elsewhere, but all through the spring and summer, I have trouble getting anyone else to come in either. Apparently chimney services fly north for the summer. Very strange. Now, fast forward. Here we are, nearly a year after my saga begun and still no chimney repair. Against my better judgment, I called London again and told them about my earlier problems and they inform me that he no longer works for the company. Good riddance. But, while the present sales associate is very pleasant, very apologetic, and attempts to be very helpful, they are unwilling to deduct the $259 inspection fee from the $1,279 fee for the chimney repair because I didn't make the appointment within a certain period of time....never mind that the reason why I didn't make the appointment was due to the stonewalling of their previous sales associate. At this point, I just don't trust them. There seems to be a disconnect (as is often the case) between the guys who actually do the work (who did a great job) and the people who sit in the office (who have failed me time & again). This initial appointment was supposed to set the tone for an on-going long term relationship in which, every fall, they come out and service our fireplace and chimney. Given the reviews here, they apparently to do really good work--IF you can get them to come out at all. But considering their seeming indifference to customer service, I'm reluctant to go any further with them. Needless to say, I'll be calling their competition. read more

They lost my business forever when they blew off an appointment I'd made with them back in November. I'm busy and REALLY prone to distraction, so it's essential at this point in my life that, if I make an appointment with a business, I need to depend upon them to honor it. I never even got a call back from these folks, which is too bad. Initially, I called London Chimney because I needed a chimney cleaning and inspection, but in the long term, I'm looking to replace my wood burning stove and, since they also operate a retail shop, I thought I'd like to develop a relationship with them for everything, rather than just the retail end. The prices I was quoted for inspection and cleaning were steep (over $150, when you can easily find people with an initial quote of less than $100). Since they never showed, I have no idea what the final price may have been - I've discovered when dealing with chimney sweeps that the initial price is frequently not the final one - it really depends, during the course of inspection, if the chimney has major issues that need repairs. Thus, I won't say straight out of the gate that London Chimney is overpriced - perhaps they are really fair about their labor once they get involved in a situation, but... from the outset they seemed steep. Like I already wrote, they lost me at "we never show up." I did manage to call them weeks later, and just got a weak apology about how the appointment wasn't in the system. Total error on their behalf, understandable, since people mess up all the time, but.... I would have been open to working with them if they'd offered some form of acknowledgment that they'd messed up, rather than weak excuses about it not being on their calendar. In summary - maybe they do great work, but I'll never know. My loyalties have moved on to another local business. read more

Rarely do I use the word crooks when describing a business. I realize that all businesses have good and bad days, but these guys are absolutely the worst. I'll keep things brief here as it has taken me several weeks to reconcile my seething distaste of this business. Here are the facts: 1) Called to get someone to come over to inspect my wood stove. I told them that I knew the problem. My gaskets needed replacing and my flue was broken (stuck in the open position). They said they needed to make an inspection of the entire wood stove. 2) An inspector came over and in 15 mins ended up writing the exact diagnosis I had told them over the phone. He actually never inspected the rest of the wood stove (more on that later). I had to pay them $135 for the visit. 3) I called for over a week to try and get an estimate for the work that needed to be done. Nothing! No response, no calls back. I finally reached someone who said they would call me back... crickets. 4) I ended up ordering the gasket for my stove online for $21. 5) When I finally received a quote it was for over $400. I talked to them and asked why and they said they had to send two people over to do the work. And that the gasket kit was going to cost $80. Why oh why does it take two people to put in a gasket replacement that took me less than 30 mins to do myself. I called another company to come over to inspect the wood stove. The came over and gave me a complete inspection highlighting issues with several areas regarding the stove, and chimney. The best part was that the inspection was free. I can't say enough about how bad the service was from London Chimney service. The worse is, I felt they were absolutely trying to rip me off with their quote to replace my gasket. Please do NOT use this company as they just don't care about your business. Oh, to top it off, they will not credit their ludicrous inspection fee towards any work they estimate needs to be done. read more

This is one of the many businesses in tam junction you drive by a million times but probably have never gone into. I've stopped into enough shops to conclude that tam junction has everything you really need . . . coffee, pizza, bike shop, grocery store, drug store (a drive through drug store) and so on. After dropping off my son at camp over the summer I spotted London Chimney Services and remembered that I needed the gaskets replaced on my stove doors. I arranged to get my gaskets replaced and have them delivered so they could give me an estimate on a sweep and new chimney cap. They arrived right on time at 7:30am. The two man team was very respectful of our groggy family. We worked out a fair deal to get everything taken care of and they finished it all in about an hour. Very happy with the service. I held back one stare because they did leave a little mess, not bad though. We just had a plumber over and we were spoiled with how they put on doctor style shoe scrubs before coming in. Our real estate agent recommended London Chimney and said they're the best in the Bay Area, and I think he's right. Like every vendor on Yelp, you'll see some reviews from disgruntled customers (every unhappy person with Internet access posts on Yelp). But I can tell you that London Chimney did a great job for us at a reasonable price, and I know that people who don't need to worry about money are hiring them to work on fireplaces in spectacular mansions, too (they just don't post on Yelp)! The technician showed up at my house completely stoned out of his mind! Bloodshot eyes, cottonmouth and slow...I told him I needed him to replace the thermocouple for my gas fireplace insert and that I told the Person at his company that I needed a thermocouple change. He looked at it (less than a minute) and told me, "You need a new thermocouple,"....Well, no sh$&!!!!! Then he wanted to charge me $255 for telling me exactly what I told him...He continued that I he needed to order the part and it would take a week to come in. I asked if he would be charging me another $255 to come out and installing the part and he said yes. What a scam!!! I told him there was no way I was giving him $255 for walking in my door and for less than a minutes worth of work! He told me this is how this company does business and he said that he would only charge me $150 for the visit. Ha! What is this?! Let's haggle over how much you're trying to scam me for?!?! I told him not to try and take advantage, I know what's wrong with the fireplace, I know what part it needs and how long it takes to fix it! He said his company doesn't usually deal with people that have done their research. Well Pal, I'm not made of money and I wonder how many people you've scammed when they trusted you and didn't know the mechanics of their gas inserts. I told him to call his manager/owner. Called for a quote on a stove. The salesperson quickly listed off four brands I should 'go check myself'. Okay fine - not very helpful to tell me to pile through 4 websites on my own without any guidance, but I was willing . When I asked him to email the names to me ( I was in the road) , which would have taken about 20 seconds, he said "no I'm too busy". Tone was dismissive, short and rude. In 2 minutes flat I'd never contact these guys Update 12/26 - mark thank you for the response . However the person on the phone did not kindly redirect me letting me know he was busy. He was outright and unabashedly rude in language and tone. Nor did I call unprepared . I called with an exact model I wished to get. You didn't carry the brand. I requested a comparable stove ( style and output). I get that things can be busy but it takes seconds to kindly say "I'm so sorry but I have three people here. May I call you back or can you come into our showroom." My sense is that he was overwhelmed and unhappy and felt it was just fine to take that out on a caller. OKAY. But I'll prefer to work with a different company. read more

I had a water leak in my chimney by the roof and called London Chimney. They said that an inspection would cost $148. Travis came, reviewed my issue and said that the job would take no more than 2 days, sand down the mortar, refill and check out the flashing. He estimated the cost to be $4000-5000. His detailed bid came in at $6,271. The work he described could have been done by 1 person and the materials would be minimum. So if 1 person worked 16 hours divided by $6271, that comes out to $390/hr. That is attorney's rates. I found a carpenter (also a building inspector for 16 yrs) who found the source of my leak in just 1/2 hr. of probing, patched it under 3 hours and cost no more than $100. Go figure. Their solution was like getting a flat tire and the tire repair shop recommending replacing all 4 tires instead of fixing a flat. read more

I had London Chimney install a fireplace gas insert for heating about 17 years ago. The unit would not light so called for repairs and inspection. They sent out Mike Serge, a very capable tech, who diagnosed that needed a new regulator, which office ordered. It took a couple weeks for the part to arrive and Mike came back and dismantled the entire stove, cleaned the dust/ glass and inserted new sparkles. The unit became newish again and very happy to report that Mike knows his stoves. read more

Mike Rees went beyond my expectations. He is honest, knowledgeable and professional. I had purchased a fireplace with installation at a competitor's place in San Rafael. The San Rafael business did not call me back after I had expressed concerns about my installation. My contractor contacted Mike for his opinion. He asked if the installers were NFI ( National Fireplace Institute) certified specialist. The original installation had a few angles and taping around it. He said it was adequate, but it wasn't efficient. Knowing this was an investment and the original installers were not returning my calls, he said he would help me if I needed any service(warranty). He gave me his contact information for my file. A few days later, my contractor informed me that Mike hasn't been getting much sleep because of my installation. He said it should be re-done efficiently. Because of his conscience, he and his partner re-did the installation. The workmanship is noticeably better compared to the original installation. Mike - the service tech - fantastic service!! Brian - the rep at the shop - fantastic service! We have a gas fireplace which has not been used in 16+ years, and we wanted it inspected for safety, code compliance, etc., prior to using. Mike was extremely courteous and informative. He even climbed up on our roof to inspect the chimney cap and flashing! He provided a very, very thorough explanation of our options - a 'renewal' service or a replacement of the ceramic logs, lava rocks, etc. with written estimates. He walked us through the safety procedures on lighting and extinguishing the fireplace, then watched as we did it on our own. May sound silly, but it was very appreciated as it wasn't self-explanatory. We then went to the showroom in Mill Valley to get a demonstration of the difference between a 'merely ambiance' set-up and a radiant log set-up. Brian was extremely courteous and explained, in detail, the differences, the how-to's, etc. The showroom, while small, has a wide variety of fireplaces to get a hands-on idea of the size, warmth generated and no BS estimate! London Chimney services in Mill Valley brought me a nightmare scenario. I purchaseda large Regency wood burning fireplace and had them deliver the unit as I decided to install this. When they arrived they did not had enough people to unload the unit and had picked up 2 day laborers and proceeded to drop the unit upside down on my living room floor .Long story short, they damaged my door jamb and when I asked for and got my refund, the owner acted as if I had put him out made no offer to fix my door jamb or gouges in my floor. Not even an apology.All in all, a very big waste of time with these folks. On the other hand after this, I did have a very professional delivery and experience with tubmakers who brought the right equipment and professional workers to drop off the fireplace. read more

My wife and I bought a home with the original 80's fireplace that even at the time it was new was budget. A painted wall would have been visually preferable (maybe even an unpainted wall.) First Mark came out and I told him what we were thinking, he responded with a lot of really great ideas and good advice. Used them for repairs on a Hearthstone gas stove (they are dealers). Beyond worthless. $135 house call yielded a stove that worked for less than a day. Their answer? A $472 proposal to replace a fist full of parts. You know, the old "bad mechanic" trick: if you don't know what the problem is keep throwing parts at it until it goes away. Thank God they didn't have the parts in stock or I would have gotten the work done! Called someone else who came, diagnosed the problem, had the part on the truck and fixed it along with cleaning the stove and the glass door. $225 all in, labor & parts. Even got a follow-up phone call to make sure everything was still working. Should rename their business London Chimney NO Service. read more
