Just checked in and it is one of the best lodges I've been at and at a reasonable price. It's by no means run down extra special touches like shutters as window covers. Elegant but simple bathroom shower doors. Laminated floors and VERY CLEAN. We stayed in room 16. I chose this place main reason is that the owner or manger always responds to the reviewer. Stayed here for two nights at one of the cottages, room #44. I was told that it had just finished being remodeled 2 days ago. Despite the remodel it was thoroughly cleaned and all amenities were in order. Only minor complaint is that the shower floor can be extremely slippery and there were no hooks to hang the towels. The beds were very firm to my liking due to having back issues, but other family said they were too hard and uncomfortable. Once again the Matresses were new so were not softened up yet. Overall we enjoyed our stayed as it was comfortable and the service was very welcoming. read more

Stay here every year for a kayaking trip, and it gets better every time. Noticeable improvements to the rooms, including beautiful new bathrooms. Everything is always spotlessly clean and comfortable with spacious rooms and plenty of easy to reach electric outlets. Love the hooks to hang gear outside to dry. This was a good value and that is why we chose it for an overnight stay. If you don't mind being a bit away from the action, this is a good option. It's really close to the fairgrounds. This hotel is close to the airport so you will hear an occasional plane. One flew by at 5:00am. I would stay here again based on cleanliness and value. read more

Google review Lone Oak Lodge My husband and I came to this location, the Lone Oak Lodge a couple of years back and had a great experience because they were supposed to be diver friendly lodge. It's obvious that the owners have changed. My husband and I came down here for a diving vacation looking forward to have the same experience as last time but I guarantee you we did not. The furniture was falling apart, refrigerator was wobbly because it appears one of the leg is broken off, the safe had no battery to power it. The three wash tubs for rinsing diving gear were filthy. There's a reason why they are labeled "1, 2, & 3". One of the tubs of water had algae growing in it. Also all the tubs were filled with only water. They are supposed to be one tub detergent solution, one disinfectant solution and the last is water for rinse. When I asked one of the Hispanic women behind the counters about it, she told me that it was clean the day before. I didn't realize algae grow that fast. The very next day after our morning dive, I started rinsing my gear in the three tubs and just by agitating the water there were tiny particles floating all over the three tubs. Not to mention next to the cleaning area with two large tub of trash bins. When I went to the front desk the following morning I ran into either the manager or the owner, an east Indian gentleman, and I asked him about the tubs and he indicated that it was only cleaned two days ago. I may not be a professor of science but I know algae takes days to grow. He suggested that I use a hose to rinse off my gear and I told him there was none over at the cleaning area. He recommended to take the hose by the front faucet which by the way was tightly screwed on and I could not takeoff. It was great while it lasted. I highly doubt after this trip that we will be coming back unless things change. I gave 2 stars because the cleaning ladies kept our room clean (bed and bathroom) but with hard flooring, it's obvious no one mops the floor. I walked around barefoot and I could feel the dirt caked in the floor. Before I went to sleep, I checked my feet and saw my feet got dirty again and this was AFTER I showered after our dives. This place really went downhill since our last visit. Sad. We'll just have to locate elsewhere. We'd be paying more but at least we won't be having these problems. URGENT to manager: Talk to the local dive shops and ask suggestions on how to cater to divers. We would have been "ok" with everything else if the wash area was up to par but this was UNACCEPTACLE as a diver. read more

There was an incident during our stay that involved another guest/neighbor and I found that quite scary, but of course its not the place's fault. They can't control the crazy tourists that come in. My husband and I were looking for a quiet reasonably priced place to stay in Monterey. After scrolling through several hotel sites I found Lone Oak Lodge. I was told booking direct will have the lowest price. And booking online directly with the property was lower than Booking.com and other travel websites. I requested a quiet room and was actually placed in a room that did not appear to have travelers on either side. It is an older motor lodge type property, with all single story rooms and an assigned park right in front of your room. We loved the convenience of having our car so close. The staff is excellent, extremely accommodating from the Manager to the cleaning staff. I asked for a 1hour late checkout and was told I could have 2 hours, so we could leave our luggage in our room and walk to breakfast before heading back on the road. The rooms are very basic, no frills but very clean. The exterior of the property was neat and felt secure. The king room had a phenomenal mattress! And pretty nice pillows as well. Rooms have shutters on the windows so the room did not get pitch black like with blackout curtains but we managed to adjust. The rooms have laminate floors, a fridge, AC, a small table with 2 chairs, desk area, microwave and adequate TV selection. A couple of pictures on the wall would make it feel a little more cozy. One of the other positives of the property is location, location, location. It is within walking distance to restaurants, a Dollar Tree and CVS. Also, very close to Seaside for a lot of affordable eateries. Easy entrance and exit to the Highway. Within less than 15 minutes to beaches and about the same to the Fisherman's Wharf. For the price we paid, we feel Lone Oak Lodge was a bargain and would recommend if you need a clean and secure room on a budget that is centrally located. read more

A budget motel good for scuba divers. Thank you for offering rinse tanks and places to hang drying gear. Also the mattresses in some of the rooms are incredibly comfortable. Suggestions for improvement: * Some divers don't know the 3 rinse tanks should be used in succession. First rinse in tank 1, then progress to tanks 2 and 3. As a consequence, all the rinse tanks get dirty. Hanging up instructions would help. * The heaters in the rooms are very loud. Very underwhelming for the price. The bed was made of granite and felt like sleeping on concrete with tiny child pillows. The heater stunk up the room. It felt both stuffy and cold. Zero art on the walls and terrible lighting. This is where I imagine a kidnapper would take their victims. Been to Monterey serveral times but this is my first time at Lone Oak Lodge. It definitely wont be the last. We reserved a "cottage" with a queen bed and 2 twins which is perfect for the 4 of us - me, wifey and 2 adult children. It's located on Fremont St which is about 10-15minutes from the wharf, cannery row and the aquarium. No big deal as we've stayed in the Fremont St are before. Driving up the place looks like a typical 50s motel. One story stretching back from the street. The lady in the front office was very nice and friendly and checkin was quick. The cottage was perfect for us. What probably used to be a living room was converted into a bedroom with the 2 twin beds. Farther in was the master bedroom with the queen bed and the spacious bathroom. To get to the bathroom you have to go through the master. There is also a large fully quipped kitchen with a full stove, a real working refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine with Starbucks, and a 4 seat retro dining table. Parking right in front. Free Internet was very good (`5Mbs) and the cable TV in both bedrooms was great with tons of cable channels including HBO. Not the most modern place, but for the $ and roominess a great deal. Also very clean and nice amenities. Lone Oak is now our "go-to" for Monterey getaways so we'll definitely be back. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the clean and quiet comfort I found at lone Oak Lodge. I stayed in room number 12, far enough away from road noise. I was by myself, so the small room was perfect and included a small refrigerator, microwave, flatscreen TV, with cable, and a well-stocked coffee machine. All the fixtures, appliances, sink, toilet, shower, and floors are new! The interior paint is fresh on an old wall, but the exterior looks funky and old - but don't be fooled! read more

Cute little lodge but my toilet leaked and soaked the bathroom floor resulting in my brother falling. I called the front desk and explain my brother fell and I need it fixed so no one else falls so they sent over some older man ( took 30 ish min plus ) to fix but he said there was nothing to fix and I just kept towels on the floor the entire weekend making sure no one else fell. If you get room 37 ( queen bed with fire place) beware. Side note : My mom rented room 21 and her fire place was fake!! I'm a fan of a hotel that's simply clean, comfortable, quiet, easy parking, and has simple amenities. I expect that from every hotel and this one provides just that. It's not the Ritz, of course... but even the Ritz didn't provide us free parking to which I ripped them a new one for that but... Lone Oak does! Directly in front of your room for easy access. They clean your room each day with bleach and are super friendly. It's also only 10- 15 min away from everything important in Carmel, and then 30 min from all the sites down The pch towards Big Sur. This is by far one of the worst night I ever had in my life. Room 2 is insanely loud because of the refrigerator. I don't know if any other room has the same problem but the refrigerator had been making this water leaking noise all night. And there's nothing you can do because the front desk closes at 10 or 11pm. Kept me up all night. At first I didn't know where the noise was coming from. I thought it could be sprinklers outside, then I thought it was the bathroom drain and finally I went and checked everywhere in the room and found out it's the refrigerator!!! The Loan oak lodge is an unassuming lodge, but we stay here every year for the Monterey jazz festival. The family room, which sleeps 8, has been recently updated and looks fabulous! It has a full kitchen, a dining table and plenty of space . Can't wait to come back next year read more

The carpet was stained everywhere. There were holes in the walls. Worst of all the blankets were spongy and did not feel good. We just came back from three nights at the Lone Oak Lodge. We stay here every year when we come to Monterey. The family suite is perfect for our family of four. It is huge! More than enough room for us. It has two beds, one in a separate room, and two sofa beds, which were perfect for the kids. Also a very spacious kitchen. This suite has been beautifully remodeled in the past couple years. We also appreciated the EV charger in the parking lot. I do wish it had a bathtub instead of just a shower, but our kids are old enough to take showers now. One other downside is the wifi is not good. Not quite strong enough to consistently stream on our devices. Overall though, we love this place and will continue to stay here. read more

Pros: Comfortable bed, free parking, clean room, a heater for cold nights, coffee maker ( ours was dirty so we did not use it), a fridge, microwave, blow dryer provided, good size tv and a Dennys within a five minute walk. Cons: Bed linens are old (but were clean), small shower in width (I'm only 5ft 1 so if you are taller or larger, good luck), there was no iron in our room ( I guess you have to request it) and lastly there's no air conditioner. So if you are visiting during the warmer season, all you have is a ceiling fan and a plug-in fan to get you by through the night. read more

From the minute you check in with Manny, you know you will have a great stay. He is so accommodating and friendly. I read the reviews and the high rating for cleanliness is well deserved. We brought our own because of the Covid, but only felt the need to wipe off the doorknobs, remotes and the seating table. The bedding is soft and freshly pressed and the bed was comfortable. The room options are great. Our teens don't like sharing a bed so we were lucky that the hotel had a suite. One queen bedroom and another room with 2 twin beds. My husband and I stay here once a year every time we visit Monterey but this will be the last time. Here's why: -The jets in the hot tub were broken -the shower looked as though it was built for a little person. I had to crouch to shower and my husband being 6'2 had to hand rinse with a detachable shower head. It was ridiculous. -the crawl space in the ceiling of the bathroom was left open and it looked old and crusty -the furniture and fixtures in the room are dated and worn. -they do not provide thick enough blankets for the beds. It gets cold at night, so it would have been nice to have a more substantial blanket to cover up! -the maids kept knocking on our door on the last day of our stay to see if we were checked out yet and we had over two hours before check out! This place is kind of a nightmare. Find another place to stay. Honestly, for the money they charged us, we could have done much better and so can you. read more

This hotel is the best I've had so far for affordable hotels in Monterey. No it's not the cutest or best looking but it definitely looked and felt clean even though my boyfriend and I stayed in a room that did not yet have any updated furniture. If I could give 0 stars I would. I booked way in advance for this week long trip, and just NOW THEY canceled my reservation. I called and MONTY the "manager" answered, he was VERY RUDE, very dismissive and WILL NOT LISTEN TO YOU OR LET YOU SPEAK. I was confused as to why they canceled my reservation WITHOUT my consent. Monty said it was due to the fact they had wrong pricing on the website... which is not my fault. And as someone who is a manager and works in retail, I honor the price that was originally there and not fight it or argue. Monty did not do that, he told me to talk to booking.com customer service which I did, and they told me when they spoke to Monty, I would just need to rebook with them and keep the same rates, so I called the hotel again to confirm and Monty was so aggressive and angry, and so was I. I spent over $1k on this hotel and would've loved to stay there, but Monty ruined that for me. I budgeted for this trip, took money out of my savings for this trip; and now I have to redo everything. All the plans I had, are now ruined due to their poor technical skills. Monty told me it was supposed to be $500 for one night instead of $23.... How do you make a mistake that big???? If someone who is working above Monty can reach out to me, that would be great. Monty's customer service was absolutely insulting, I would never treat any of my customers like he treated me. He hung up on me mid sentence and I started crying out of frustration. NEVER book with this place, they WILL fuck it up and cancel your reservation without notice. Good lord, this motel is so awful. I lost count of how many roaches I saw in the bathroom. We also had an open hole in one of our walls. The furniture and decor in our room was so outdated and the pleather chairs were peeling and falling apart. Our room looked nothing like the photos we in the listing on Airbnb. I guess we should have expected this for such a decent price and the location right by Laguna Seca. Two stars only because the receptionist was super sweet. read more
