Missing Beans, Empty Glasses... But They Asked About the Tip. Stopped by Lone Star Ancaster around 6:20 pm on a Monday before a concert. The restaurant was almost empty. To be fair, the food itself was good. The chicken fajitas were tasty. We also ordered the queso, which tasted like melted Cheese Whiz. They were also prompt enough to bring extra salsa for the chips when asked. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the food. Our fajitas arrived without the saddle beans, which we mentioned right away. The bartender said she'd put the order in. After TEN minutes and still no beans, my fajita was getting cold, so I just ate it without them. Meanwhile, no one refilled our water once, and no one checked on us at all after the food arrived, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. When my husband asked again about the beans, the bartender told us they were probably just reheating them and added, "I'm just the bartender." No apology, no effort to check. The real surprise came when we paid. Because of the service, my husband chose not to tip, and the bartender actually had the GALL to ask him why he hadn't tipped?! Besides, I thought she was "just the bartender!" When the manager came over, he seemed oddly confused that empty water glasses might matter, saying something along the lines of "Oh, I guess not refilling the glasses is important." The only thing that seemed to get his attention was when we repeated the bartender's "I'm just the bartender" comment, which is when he mustered the offer of free dessert. At that point we were already late for our concert and just wanted to leave. Good fajitas. Cheese-Whiz queso. Missing beans. Empty water glasses. No service check-ins. And apparently questions about your tip if the service isn't great. Next time we want fajitas, we'll go somewhere that remembers the beans, refills the water ... and doesn't interrogate customers about tipping. read more

A great experience for dinner here today. We arrived at 5:00 and the place wasn't busy at all (a Wednesday). They sat us at a table near the front window like we had asked. It was a bit cold in the restaurant but it warmed up a bit after we ate. The place is nice inside, having a rustic decor. We sat in the area where the bar was, at a booth, which was nice. Our server Nicky (call name Moonshine) was super friendly and happily told us about the different sidekicks for the fajita fest for two that we ordered ($44). We had the jalapeño relish and guacamole which were both tasty add one for fajitas. We had the chips, salsa, and queso to start. The queso was warm with just a tiny bit of spice, perfect! The chips were good, but too many small pieces, and there weren't enough on the plate shared with the bowl of queso. We had to wait about 30 minutes for our entree , which seemed long considering the place wasn't that busy. The fajita fest entree included shrimp, chicken, steak, peppers, and onions, and about half a rack of ribs. They give you a side plate of lettuce, sour cream, salsa, and a bowl of rice. I had to ask for more lettuce as I like a good amount in my fajita. Everything tasted really good. The steak, chicken, and shrimp were grilled nicely. The ribs were fall off the bone type. We only ate half of the feast and we were stuffed! Nicky provided us with a box and foil lined bag for the leftovers. Next time I need to order something smaller so I can try one of their desserts! We had an early supper today at the Lone Star Texas Grill. We sat in the dining room side. Jessie, our server, started us off with chips and salsa. Yum! Gord and I both ordered Chicken Chimangas, which were good. Gord got his with a Caesar salad. Ken and Jasmine shared a Southwest Peppercorn Burger and fries and a Chicken Tortilla Soup. If I could leave a 0 star review, I'd do so in a heartbeat. This was one of the worst places Ive gone to eat in awhile. Service was slow, food was sloppily made, and the overall cleanliness of the restaurant was questionable at best. We came in and needed a table for 4, and it took multiple minutes to get one 'cleaned' despite there being many other free clean tables around. After we were seated and had our drinks ordered after even more waiting, it took another 10 minutes for our drinks to come out when we were basically the only ones in the restaurant, and the food we ordered took even longer. Even after we had our food served, we had to wait another 5 minutes for just a simple fork, knife, and napkins. During our entire visit, a larger 'party' type table next to us had dirty dishes, glasses, and napkins on it, making the atmosphere unpleasant. The male bathroom was disgusting at best. Urinals overflowing with urine and every possible surface was drenched in what I hope was water. None of this was cleaned in the hour and a half we were there. From this, id assume the female bathroom was no better. This now being the day after, one of my relatives seems to have gotten food poisoning or some sort of illness from what they had, it being some burrito. This has completely halted our trip back home, and made their experience the worst out of all of ours. Overall, I will at least say the food did taste ok, despite being very messy and the drinks were decent. The server we had was also nice, and did their best to help us, but overall the negatives harshly outweigh the positives, and I don't think I, or my family will be returning to this location. We haven't been here since Summer 2018. Back then, we had a great dining experience. Sorry to say, not so much now. Food prep & service were very slow. My Chicken Quesadilla Platter was generous and had great taste. However, the sweet potato fries were a bit over done. My wife's Honey Garlic Wings were also excellent, but the accompanying celery stalks were very poorly presented, disgusting to look at. The inner channel showed no sign of being washed and the outer side of 2 stalks was all bruised and marked. A kitchen taking pride in their meals would not have served these. We asked the server to report this to the kitchen - very disappointed, no one came out to talk to us. Lastly, the ladies washroom gets a 1 out of 10 today. Went out and at first wasn't too bad we got served chips with salsa. We got the bottom of the bag, the nice little broken chips. Later we received our food my fries were lukewarm and the oh so famous fajitas you couldn't even smell or hear sizzling when it arrived. Yet the other table received a sizzling plate. I have lived in Hamilton for four years and this had to have been the worst restaurant I have been to. Staff was very inpolite, food was cold, never was checked up on, very expensive for what you are given, and our waitress changed three times (didn't get introduced to any of them). When we presented valid coupons she made a big deal and crumbled our bills aggressively which made the experience very uncomfortable. This restaurant has gone extremely downhill we have been coming here randomly since it opened, probably 7 out of 10 visits have been extremely disappointing, My last visit here was tonight for takeout, I showed up on time and continued to wait, I approached the bartender and asked if my order was ready ,she directed me back to front door to the hostess that wasn't there even when I first came in (hence why I asked the bartender) keep in mind I am a seasoned server for 20+ years . A good place to eat to enjoy the Texas atmosphere, eat Anerican food, and have a couple of drinks. I wouldn't mind coming back if I was in the mood for some burgers or a steak. Pros - Food was great! I got a BBQ burger with fries on the side and a beer. Five out of five stars!! The Lone Star Texas Grill here in Ancaster was (is) an absolutely fantastic establishment. The service is super friendly (out waiter was named "Outlaw") and the food is super fresh and tasty. We tried the onion ring appetizer and was not disappointed! Super crispy and served with ranch! Beef fajitas where amazing and the soft tortillas where to die for!! Would recommend!!!! Don't waste your time (and money) at Montana's or Jack Astor's. Lone Star for the win!! read more

The food at this location is always good. The atmosphere is fun and the bartenders are great. Unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired. The servers are pleasant, but service itself is incredibly slow. We asked for chips and salsa and they never arrived. Food took 25 minutes to arrive and drinks 15. This has occurred in the past at this location so we can only assume they are under staffed. On a Saturday night I would assume they would be fully staffed but they did not appear to be. We read through other reviews for this location and it sounds like service has been a problem for a while. We love the food but the service needs to improve. read more

After my review the manager got a hold of me and was very apologetic and seemed honestly sincere. He offered us a gift card and asked us to come back. We did and he served us himself. Ordered the exact same thing, the ceaser salad was still not to my liking and he switched it up to a tossed salad. The ribs and burger were cooked so much better. We will try again when we don't have the excellent service from the manager and see what happens. He did say that if we have issue upon our return to ask for him directly. **EDITED** I've been to Lone Star before and have had several wonderful experiences there. Since they've changed and updated their menu, their guacamole is not free and most of their menu items do not taste as good as they once were! The Fajitas are always our choice when ordering here so it's a shame that the past few times when we visited, they we doughy and the chicken was dry. This is sad because we love TexMex and haven't found a place that does fresh tortillas! UPDATE 1: As of Aug-31-2015 I was advised by the LSTG Marketint Manager that the General Manager would follow up on this review. I still have not been contacted regarding my food quality experience. UPDATE 2: As of 19-Sep-2015 and two follow ups, I still have not exchanged emails or spoken with a restaraunt manager of the food chain's GM. I have revised my review to 1star due to negative food quality experiences and an abysmal customer service experience. Obviously Lone Star Texas Grill and it's management do not value customer feedback or responding to complaints in a timely manner. I will not be returning to any Lone Star location. read more

Went in because I was craving something different as we don't normally choose tex-mex fare. I was very pleased at the whole experience. The place was packed. Service and food was really good. Sunday lunch ... Ordered wings, onion rings, tex mex chicken bowl, and fajitas. You get complementary chips and salsa while you wait for your meal. Service was great, friendly, and they replenished the chips when they saw that we had mowed through it. The bowl was a nice change from the usual fajitas etc. onion rings were also big and crispy. I was eating with a female friend at a reasonably nice restaurant. Not posh, but expensive. Before we were seated we grabbed a drink at the bar, whilst there she signed up to some sort of newsletter at the bar. To be fair it was stuff like this that made me apprehensive to call the place "posh". Anyways, we sit down and the girl I'm with gets a text telling her how beautiful she looks. She ignores it and another one comes through asking her what she's doing later. She hasn't got a clue who it is and ignores it. We're finishing up our meal and a 3rd text comes through saying she shouldn't be with a guy like me and asking if she wanted dessert with a "real man" Now it's clear someone in the restaurant has her number and we clocked that she had put it down on the application form for the newsletter. Considering the newsletters went into a box behind the bar it was a member of staff. After getting the manager down and him calling the number and pegging what member of staff it was it turned out one of the waiters had taken her number and address off this form, written it in his phone and had spent the evening taking pictures of her from behind the bar. First off... They claim to be the first to introduce Fajitas to Canada. That's just not true. Chi-Chi's was around long before them, and that's where I first discovered Fajitas. As for the food - Holy crap is it bad. Cardboard steak (likely frozen and not thawed properly), processed (formed) chicken breast. Even when sent back, a new steak came back the same way. Terrible food and inadequate service. Last night 3 of us visited this place for dinner. We ordered some drinks, some appetizers, a burger and "Crispy Fish Tacos". The drinks were good and the appetizers were acceptable however the fish taco was cold and soggy! After informing our server, she mentioned that she would speak to the manager and ask if we wanted a free desert to which we agreed and ordered Mini Donuts. After desert we were looking for her so we could pay our bill and leave and could not find her in sight. After some looking around and walking around the restaurant we found her outside in the patio cleaning tables so we asked for our bill. When she brought the bill, we didn't really look at it since we had waited for a while and wanted to go home, instead we paid and left. Upon getting home we noticed we were charged for the desert and fully charged for the tacos! I like this Lone Star the best as compare to those in Toronto ! The food is good and hot, service is great and I think the best is that the Manager is very on top of everything. I used to be a regular here and came for the half price wings; that was until half price became 25% off and the honey garlic sauce became a hosion garlic sauce. I have been to lonestar many, many times. Usually the service is wonderful but tonight was an exception. On a very icy night, the front was not salted. As a result, I fell outside and witnessed another patron almost fall. When I went inside, I let the bartender know. She asked if I was okay and said she would let her manager know. During our stay, the manager did not ask if I was okay or come over to our table. I was a little annoyed by this but let it go. However, what really bothered me was that when we left, the outside was STILL not salted. Clearly this establishment does not take the safety of guests into consideration. I've been to this Lone Star Texas Grill probably about 2-3 dozen times. I was a die-hard fan of their chicken quesadilla. Unfortunately, they've changed their menu and the quesadilla is totally different now. I tried the steak and fajitas to see if there's something else to love there because the fresh chips and salsa are great but the new menu took everything for a turn for the worst. The place is almost never full. Positive is you'll never have to wait long for a table or service. Servers are usually not busy so service is prompt. The decor is really cool.
