I had an awesome experience with Nate! Super friendly and professional, even with a novice and out-of-shape rider like me. This was my first bike fit ever but it's clear that he really knows his stuff. I was surprised by how much of the fitting process was done off the bike. We started out by reviewing my issues/pain points, then examining my lower body for any anomalies and range of motion, then finding out how my body weight is distributed on my feet. Nate found that I might benefit from custom-molded insoles, so I sprung for them. I'm glad I did, because the level of support in my shoe is night and day. I hopped on the bike and Nate hooked me up with sensors to capture different data points. He pointed out several spots that were outside of "ideal" ranges and the effects they had on my body. Stop researching bike fitters, and go with Nate. I am a complete beginner to cycling, but I decided to get a bike fit because cycling was causing outer knee pain. My prior bike fit felt rushed, surface level, and basic. This was the complete opposite on all accounts. The process is comprehensive and addresses every part of your body impacted by cycling. Your position gets modified over and over with wires measuring your body angles until everything is brought into the acceptable ranges. I went in for a pre-purchase bike fit. Original intent was to first get the correct frame size, stem length and handlebar width. To me, it's a no brainer to do this and spend $400 before committing $3k-12k on a bike whatever your budget is. Well, it has been well worth it and more. First, Nate is a wealth of knowledge and helped me in unanticipated ways... First, he evaluated my body and noticed my left leg was longer than the right and remedied it with shimming. Then we custom molded shoe inserts at $100. Again well worth it after 2 rides on my old bike. Then we experimented with the geometries of the exact frame I wanted to purchase and found the proper size as I was between sizes, bar width and stem length. I am still waiting for the new frame and the bike to be built before a follow up visit. I would recommend Nate to anyone who are ready spend big money for that bike you have been eyeing. This was a fantastic experience. I bought a bike a few years ago; my first nice one, and things went great until my plantar fasciitis flared up and I decided to switch from running shoes to clipless shoes/pedals. Nate was great! Plain and simple!!! Why? To start, outside of being a nice guy, (met him for the first time at my fitting), Nate takes the time to review everything with you, step by step. Nate explains what and why he's doing what he's doing. He offers suggestions as to things that might work better for you but is not overly pushy with selling anything. Which I LOVE! No one likes to feel like they don't have options and you HAVE to buy from them to supplement their revenue. Lastly, the thing that I loved most was that he offers to continue answering any questions might have or you can even come back to once or twice, if after the fitting something is off and not right. Or if you get something new put on and need to have it readjusted, he's open to helping. That is just plain great!! The relationship feels like it is something you can build on, that he really does want to help and it is not so transactional, like other fittings can be. (which is not wrong, just doesn't feel as meaningful.) Most other bike fitters will re-charge you if you want to come back for some readjustment but not Nate, (at least not for small adjustments here and there.) Customers want to and like to know there dollars spent is going the distance! There are many things about this year that are unmemorable or moments that were rough. Through it all there are glimmers of hope and reasons to be thankful and happy about. One thing that has come out of this year that I am thankful for is a new passion for road bikes, long rides and all things cycling! I purchased a road bike in July with no prior knowledge besides research I had conducted online. After riding around for a little over a month and noticing back pain, hand numbness and having to adjust my seated position several times while riding, I started to do research about bike fitting. I decided to make the investment as I love going for long rides and wanted to make sure I was properly situated. I decided to make the investment and get myself properly fitted. Nate walked/talked me through the entire process. He also took time to micro adjustments to help me identify the exact fit that would make sense. We also tried over 5 bicycle seats until I landed on my current seat. I didn't even realize how uncomfortable my original seat was until I switched it out! After my initial fitting I went a few weeks later to make a few more adjustments including getting a shorter bike stem... which I had a feeling I would need. I wanted to get some time in the saddle, post-bike fit so I could leave an honest review regarding the improvements that were made during the bike fit. I purchased a Trek Emonda SL7 at the beginning of the year. I got about 200+ miles in the saddle and honestly thought the bike was pretty dialed from the shop. Prior to the bike fit, after 30+ miles per ride, my hands would get a little numb and my lower back would be a little tight, causing me to stretch often during the rides. In preparation for a century ride coming up, I took my bike to Long Beach Bike Fit at the recommendation of a friend who had been here. I was absolutely blown away by Nate's expertise and knowledge. Nate was very thorough with the measurements and explained each process every step of the way. Despite me feeling like the bike was fairly dialed in, Nate made several adjustments and tweaks from cleat placement, saddle height & placement, hand position on the drop bars, and stem height. All of which made me feel more on top of the bike instead of leaning more forward which attributed to the numbness and lower back pain. I just completed my first century ride and I can confidently say it would have been much more of a challenge / pain if not for Nate's experience and dedication to the craft.
