Nicely located one block from breach with bar/restaurant attached. 15 minute walk from train' or 5 minute taxi ride when it's 90+. Small but adequate rooms, except no mini fridge. Continental breakfast bar. Vending for drinks and snacks when they work.

Love the colored Pollywood type high boy chairs, live music soon after we arrived. Great grilled cheese w bacon and hand cut fries from the food truck. Doesn't get better than this, although a drink menu would be nice since it was hard to determine what they could make and what the $$ were. Stick to beer, easy. Though the Pina Colada with a top off of rum (Lee M thought it was a margarita, he knows I can't drink those as they give me agida) We've traveled around and around and this is pretty close to perfection in terms of outdoor, beach side enjoyment. Ted's caught our eye, as we prefer drinks outdoors and waterside. As we walked the property trying to decide where to sit amongst the many choices (beach, dock, bar, adirondacks), I noticed a duo bringing in equipment. Adirondacks front and center of band stage was the only choice. Cold beer for me, frozen margarita with a floater for my lady. We settled in for some classic rock tunes ( Dead, Beatles, and some early 70's 1 hit wonders). Food truck grilled cheese perfection with enough crispy handcut fries the feed a family if five. Just a perfect Saturday! ...and a Mrs. Roper Pub Crawl at all 3 bars on the bay side (picture for illustration only as it was next door).

I never saw a red Manhattan before, but there is was. Could not tell what bourbon it was as the red mixture was masking what kind bourbon. (It almost tasted like some kind of mix rather than a hand made drink.) Again, the food was good, ambiance as comfortable, the band was excellent, but that is as positive as I can be. When we first walked up there were 2 young ladies at the door who I assumed were hostesses but could not be more disinterested. I said we were meeting friends for dinner and they unhelpfully advised to "go in side and look for them." As our friends said they had booked a table one would have thought that the hostess could have checked to see if they arrived and if so at which table they were sitting. No such luck. Out waitress must have been from the same hospitality school as the hostesses. Totally bland as borderline unfriendly, in that there was zero interaction or anything resembling any sort of welcome or personally. Never even gave us her name. Again this was our first time there so we' were unfamiliar with the operation. There were a few servers but they seemed to come and go which made up suspect they were serving tables elsewhere on the premises. This was confirmed when we tried to find her for the bill, that we asked, again, for separate ones, which came, as expected, as one bill. So to find her for the bill, find her to correct it and get it back was close to 30 minutes.0 Equally annoying as the face that there was one, single seat bathroom in the bar. There may have been other facilities, but true form, there was no help from any of the staff. BOTTOM LINE: the food isn good, reasonably priced and good portions. The bar portion was very nice and inviting except for just one single use bathroom. The service and friendliness of the waitress and hostesses left much to be desired. Parking was off street as they don't have sufficient parking (we parked some 2 blocks away..) If you live within walking distance, wish to sit at the bar and listen to good music (at least last night) I would recommend Dox.. As we live close to an hour away, I can not make a recommendation to travel to have good food and entertainment at the expense of substandard service, questionable drinks and scant sanitary facilities. Sorry, it would not take much to get a higher rating but prolly not enough for us to make a return visit.

I ordered the roasted beets, Irish Soda Bread Rolls and their J.A.H. 1946 Burger , My wife gets their Reuben Sandwich and both were absolutely amazing. The beets were perfectly cooked with great flavor, and the special burger was juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. Every bite was a delight! The service was outstanding too -- our server was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. They really know how to take care of their guests. One fun little touch: I accidentally walked out with one of their pens, and I just want to say thank you for that! It's now my new favorite pen and reminds me of a great night every time I use it Highly recommend J.A. Heneghan's Tavern -- we'll definitely be back soon. Five stars all the way!

Waiter, who was excellent and attentive, continued to apologize for the more than an hour it took for our dinners to arrive. Ordered the French Dip from the specials menu. Very skimpy portion of meat in that roll but in their defense the meat and dipping gravy were tasty. Buttermilk Fried Chicken sandwich was tasty and side of Tater Tots crisp and tasty. May wait another while before trying again.

The servers were all super sweet, and the hostess' did their best to accommodate our group. We ordered two drinks-Cucumber Cooler and the Indian Summer. The Cucumber Cooler was pretty refreshing and reminded me a lot of a mojito. The Indian Summer, however, was extremely tangy and tart, so I wasn't the biggest fan. For our food, we got a Charcuterie Board, Spicy Chicken Rigatoni, Smokehouse Burger, and Cedar-Plank Salmon. We honestly devoured the Charcuterie Board as soon as it was placed down in front of us. I loved the toast paired with the meats, cheese, and fig. The Smokehouse Burger is honestly so filling. I was pretty full from a quarter of the burger, because it was so packed with things (onion rings, cheese, patty, etc.). The fries are also a classic. The rigatoni was also pretty good; it's your classic vodka sauce. As for the salmon, I was a HUGE fan. The maple-bourbon glaze on the salmon gave it a nice smoky, savory, and sweet flavor that paired amazingly with the garlic herb rice. I could honestly eat this for days. Overall, the food, service, and vibe were pretty nice. I see why so many Long Beach natives recommend this spot. We were also seated in their half indoor/half outdoor area, and the weather was beautiful that day, so it was really nice to experience. Highly recommend coming here !

But on all the social media sites I checked, including Yelp, opening time was referenced as 12 noon. When we arrived at 12 the door was locked. We walked around for a while, returning 10 minutes later. This time the owner opened the door and told us to come back at 1. When my wife explained that various sites indicate the opening time at 12 he seemed surprised, but not especially concerned nor apologetic, and simply repeated that we should come back at 1. I was about to mention to him that since we live about 20 minutes away and that traveling back and forth would be impractical, as would be walking around for 50 minutes, perhaps we could be permitted to visit somewhat earlier. But by then, the door was closed. It's a shame. The bar has so many glowing reviews and it looks like a cool place. Too bad we'll never see the inside.
