DEAR GOD, that Norwegian pizza was amazing (lobster, shrimp, crab, artichokes)! My husband & I visited from Portland for the weekend and based on the reviews, stopped in for lunch. There was a pool tournament going on, so the place was very busy with a lively atmosphere. VERY entertaining locals-watching, super-friendly service from our waitress, and as mentioned above, amazing pizza. We'll be having the leftovers for dinner in our hotel room tonight. We always get LBT pizza when we come to the beach! Come hungry, these pizzas are thick crust - but still have a nice crunchy exterior with pillowy inside and LOTS of toppings. These pizzas are hearty! Veggie pizza is my favorite and includes; mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers, onions, olives, pineapple and jalapeño and so much delicious cheese! Would give 5 stars solely upon food and value paid for satiating our appetites but sometimes the service can be a little slow and atmosphere leaves a little to be desired (but what do I expect, it's a local tavern afterall!) We walked into this place while visiting Long Beach for the weekend. Drinks were ok and the appetizer we order were not really desirable. The service was iffy, the servers weren't very welcoming and rushed service. Nothing too special, just a hole in the wall, small town tavern setting. It's a pretty spacious bar, with about 4 pool tables, and plenty of seating. We didn't eat here but did love the dive bar ambience and friendly staff. Would totally return! read more

This is one good pizza. Best since the glory days of Godfathers Pizza when they had that old Mafia boss tell you to "Do it!" We ordered the Captains Pizza to go. Pizza was loaded with toppings and delicious. read more

We stopped in on a busy, rainy Saturday afternoon and had a couple rounds of drinks and a few appetizers. We ordered nachos and mozzarella sticks and they were both mediocre. The mozzarella sticks were particularly bad - had a burned overcooked taste and were served prepackaged marinara sauce that wasn't good. We ordered mixed drinks that were all terrible and then shifted to beer (harder to screw that up). Service was not friendly or efficient. The place certainly did have the dive bar atmosphere, but with lots of unfortunate quirks (TVs that don't work, broken lighting, broken seats, etc.). It feels like this place is simply riding out their location and not even trying anymore. The LBT has the main distinction of being the only obvious 'dive bar' on the main street in Long Beach. In the future we will go to better bars in the area (Castaways, Pickled Fish, Pioneer Tavern, Lost Roo, and North Jetty are all far superior). read more

Dont order the prime rib dip you get a whole bunch of bread with very little meat. It was $11.95 for what was a bunch of fries and bread the sandwich had what looked like a thin strip of prime rib about 1/8th inch thick. read more

Have to say, was there today. The seafood chowder was OK. It had more potatoes than anything else. Service by Marshall started out good. Then the locals came in and he never came back. We made eye contact several times and he looked away. We got a drink and they never came back to see if we wanted another one. If I were to choose between Long Beach Tavern and castaways I would choose castaways hands down. read more

The bar is great for a little dive. The bartenders were great and the drinks and pub food were tasty. A word of caution tho? The restaraunt adjacent to the pub is AWFUL! And I will never go back. The only reason it got 2 stars was because of the bar, I would not give the restaraunt ANY stars at all! read more

I'm giving this place full on 5 stars for the pizza, OMG. The best. The place is a dive, dated, old, dark but...the..pizza!! One slice will fill you up. It's stacked thick and tastes like goodness. Bloody Mary's aren't bad either. I'd go back more often if my arteries would allow it. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would... Am an out of towner with a group of people that just wanted fun and drinks. My birthday was today so I was out for drinks with my friends and family and the old chick late night (fill in I'm hoping) bartender was terrible. Asked for a lemon drop shot. Convinced us that a lemon drop drink was a better. Terrible decision. If you don't know how to make something... Admit it. The bartender before her admitted he didn't know what a chocolate cake shot was, but googled it and was open to our suggestions. Lemon drop anything comes with a sugared rim, that's basic 101 bartending I would think... I guess not at this establishment. Never will I return to this place. $20 (Portland would be cheaper) for two terrible incorrect drinks that should have been shots that should have been delicious if made like any other bartender would have. It is my birthday and a lemon drop shot should not be convinced to turn into an expensive drink that is undrinkable. I frequent Long Beach quite often with my extended family (and I will not say a nice word about this place to friends that come out this way) and never will we walk in those doors. read more

Went here for lunch. Standard bar food (fried everything, vegetarian nothing) plus pizza to choose from. So few healthy choices that I opted to split tots with my companion to hold us over until we could find a better alternative. Can't really complain given that the place is a bar first, restaurant second. read more

I always made it a point to stop in for drinks and unwind while talking to my favorite bartender, Rhonda. It was to my surprise and dismay to find that she had been Let go. The only reason I ever stopped into this little dive was to see her smiling and welcoming face. The ladies that work there now are not only Rude and unprofessional, but cater to the people that they know and leave the rest of us with empty glasses and scowls when made to do their job. Unfortunately I will never return and I will advise my friends and family to steer clear of the place as well. Called tonite to order a pizza, they answered "Hello" .. Not Long Beach Tavern, so I was taken aback .. and before I could even say Hello back ... they hung up ... I called back .. I told the lady I wanted to order Pizza, I'd heard theirs were good .. She asked if I knew what I wanted .. I said NO .. do you have a menu on-line .. she had no idea if they do or who's responsible for that... what restaurant that does take out orders, doesn't have a menu online ?? This place is really terrible, the service we got was the worst i have ever seen. The ladies that were bar tending were rude and didnt even know how to make basic drinks. Especially the older ones! I just finished chewing a bite of firm, chunky ham; one of the toppings on The Captain pizza. it's lunchtime on my husband's birthday is in a few days, so I saved up a bit of money to splurge locally. We are not drinkers, and would have gone to Morgan's next door, their dinner house, but it was too early in the day at 11:15. So we trundled into the bar and found they have three tables right near the window, and you can look out and watch the tourists. It was not noisy or disruptive at all, the bar-mates were friendly and calm. We took forever to order our pizza, knowing this is a once-in-a-long-time splurge that we wanted to get just right. So after much decision making, we chose The Captain with no green peppers and additions of garlic and yes, smoked oysters. Man, it was so delicious! The oysters were the kicker, adding a funky, delicate seafood and smoke flavor to the almost all meat pizza. The mushrooms were sliced big and cooked ahead so they were juicy and tender, ,as were the fresh tomato chunks. Olives, jalapenos, sausage, salami, perfect crust (not thin but crispy) and the tomato sauce was so complimentary that all I could taste was oregano and other spices, not sure which. Really sumptuous pizza that right now I am fighting with my husband over a crust. LOL read more
