Super disappointed. This place has the potential to be great in that location but it's just not.if they made some effort to make a little atmosphere it would be awesome, maybe a few creative dishes. It's mostly fried food. We ordered prime rib and it was thin, very little fat on it so minimal flavor and way overcooked. They said they basically cooked it in the au jus which is not a good way to cook prime rib. It was clearly not a high grade cut. I want this place to be good so bad! Serves great food. Great staff. Reasonably priced. Prime rib dinner is great. Most anything on the menue is good. Not overly priced.

3 and 1/2 stars = When we first arrived I was a bit concerned - because a party left their entire meal - almost untouched! Our grandsons enjoyed the chicken strip meal and hamburger meal (with fries), Mr. Wonderful had the halibut sandwich. I ordered the Bistro Salad - it was mostly greens, some blue cheese and dried cranberries- they forgot the walnuts. Our waitress was stellar! The restaurant was extremely busy, as it was Father's Day. She was the only one of the floor, and was able to keep a nice flow going. read more

My spouse and I chose a booth on the diner side, rather than the lounge side. The wait staff set us up with menus that offered American and seafood items. My husband realized the Captain's Plate was at least twice the size he could finish in a sitting. He said the fried calamari appetizer and fried shrimp trio were prepared well. The American cheeseburger was disappointing--despite the switch in cheese, the addition of avocado--it didn't seem to have been seasoned at all. read more

We haven't been here since the renovations, so it was a pleasant surprise at how nice, cozy and clean the place was. We stopped in on a lazy Wednesday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all. The waitress was friendly and quick. She brought water and menus, and came back to take our order in timely fashion. I ordered the Turkey Bacon Swiss special with tater tots, my husband got the Patty Melt with tots. The food came quickly and was nice and hot. The sandwiches were grilled perfectly and chock full of meat! I could only eat half of my sandwich, it was filling. The tots were crisp and crunchy, but soft in the middle, as tots should be! My husband said the Patty Melt was delicious. He was pleased with the quality of the burger inside. We were both well pleased! The bathrooms were also very spacious and clean! That's always a good sign, if you ask me! There is also a nice parking area right out in front of the restaurant. Don't hesitate to swing on into the Duck Inn if you happen to be going by. With Hwy 30 being closed due to landslide - we went home on Hwy 4. We stopped here for lunch around noon on a Sunday. Restaurant area was not crowded but the lounge was busy. Super clean, organized and welcoming. We picked our table and our waiter took our order fast. Drinks were brought (water & Pepsi) and our lunch order was right behind it. I selected the French Dip with coleslaw. It did not disappoint. My husband selected the Chicken Bacon Wrap w/Onion Rings. There was a $3 up charge but that was fine. He ate it all so I think it was good (and he also isn't a fan of chicken but like I said he ate it all). I did steal an onion ring - they were good as well. I used to swing in here now and then for a beer. Used to be a nice, townie dive bar "back in the day". Then it closed around ten years ago and the joint was vacant for a while. New owners stepped up and remodeled the place and made quite a few changes. It's no longer a "dive bar". You can actually get a very nice meal here now. The burgers and sandwiches are always good. The pulled pork sandwich is quite good. Decent prices and reasonable portions. Service can be slow as the place now has a very active, up-scale, yuppified clientele now. There's usually a dozen or more cars in the parking lot. Used to be rare to see more than just a few. This is about the only decent restaurant for 30 miles in any direction. There is an outdoor patio out back with a view of the stagnant water Columbia River spit...... Not much in Skamokawa. Mostly a whistle stop burb on the way to Long Beach or Longview. It's a photogenic town though and I enjoy stopping here to take pictures now and then. read more

After leaving here 10 minutes ago, I had to hop on a write a review right away. The Pulled Pork Sandwich was HEAVENLY. The ratio of pork and slaw was On Point. I am so happy I decided to have lunch here by myself while my husband is went to his disc golf tournament. Update: we came back for dinner. He had the chicken fried steak, and I had the ground chuck steak. To me: both we're good, but they weren't comparable to the Pulled Pork. I can just keep coming back and getting the same Pulled Pork sand which over and over and over again. read more

Time for an update since we visited twice now within the last couple weeks. One visit was for lunch as we checked out the local Vista Park and the second was for dinner while we stayed at the park. On our lunch visit there were two orders. One was for the very good pasta alfredo and the other was for the french dip sandwich. The alfredo was amazing and there was lots of it. The french dip was just like every place else. It was good but not out of the ordinary by any means. Meat was okay but typical very thin and definitely processed. Clam Chowder was delicious. I would have rated that a four star visit. Next visit was for a dinner and there were three of us. Server was top notch so that's a perfect place to start. Our orders were for a taco salad and two orders of their shrimp alfredo. The taco salad was delicious but didn't realize there was an extra charge for each ingredient we were asked if we wanted. There was. The two different shrimp alfredos were different and we thought that unusual. The pasta and alfredo was again delicious. However, we were expecting smaller shrimp and instead received five pieces of large shrimp each on the individual orders. Here's the difference though. One plate had four of the five pieces of shrimp cleaned and deveined and the other plate had four of the five pieces not cleaned or deveined. The shrimp were large and the dark vein was prominent. We couldn't believe they weren't deveined. We ordered a whole pie to go and took it back to our camper. The pie crust was thick and tasteless. Needless to say, we were disappointed. We each had one piece but didn't eat the rest. Thus, the change from 5 stars to an average 3 stars. read more

We came back to visit the town I grew up in. The Duck used to be a little down at the heels joint. They have done a great job of remodeling it! Today's Duck Inn is bright, nicely decorated, and spotless. We had the Taco and Cobb salads. They were a generous size full of good quality ingredients. I don't come back to town often but I'll eat here again when I do. read more

My wife and I both ordered Turkey sandwich's. That's a first! Not good, 2 big thick pieces of stale sourdough bread and 2 paper thin pieces of Turkey, mayo and thin piece of iceberg lettuce. I did have a very tasty Bloody Mary :) Service slow as always but we knew that going in. Only 1 waitress on a busy Sunday. She had to seat people, buses tables, do it all, that's why we ordered cold food. We saw lots of people walk out because they never got to order a drink. How is a restaurant this good out in the middle of nowhere? Discovered this place on Yelp and decided it would be a good place to take my parents when they're in town. The food here is phenomenal. My first time there I had the fettuccine alfredo not expecting much but had my mind blown by the creamy excellent taste. I've also had nachos, burgers and the prime rib here. Each time the food exceeds my expectations and I find myself driving away not understanding how this place can be so good. The pricing is also extremely reasonable. Really one of the best if not the best places to have a nice dinner anywhere within 25 miles of the Duck Inn. I cannot recommend this place more highly. read more

The thing that struck me most about Duck was the amazing back deck area that overlooks a beatiful marshy wetlands area. This makes for some great scenery, which you can't eat but might make eating more fun. The bar area and restaurant were nicer than I would've expected for a place so far off the beaten path as well. The food is traditional America bar food with lots of fried options, no surprises here. They also serve several micro brews from the local brewery which makes getting drunk feel more worldly. A hidden gem is what we call this restaurant. We were staying at Skamokawa from out of town when we looked up this place. I had the seafood platter and my husband had a prime rib. The seafood was fresh and lightly battered and not greasy. The prime rib had exceptional seasoning and cooked to perfection. The waitress and staff were so friendly, and gave us directions for an evening drive to a nearby town. We will definitely be back when we come this way again. read more

The new interior was nice. Food was average but pricey. SMOKING is allowed on deck. If you are a non smoker and want to enjoy the deck you must endear smoke with your meal. One party in our group is terminally ill and I stated it was a health risk. After we moved inside the waitress stated they had a permit for smoking and the manager would come talk to me. About 20 minutes later we were ready to leave. I asked if the manager was on his way. She stated he could not speak with me he was too busy. I stated regardless of a permit it should be posted as a "smoking area"as a courtesy to the customers with health risks. She stated again we have a permit! We got here and were informed they were understaffed and out of a few things. That was fine and we waited patiently as our waitress did her best. My biggest complaint is that I didn't get what I ordered. I ordered a wrap and I got a wrap but not the wrap that was on the menu. My friends wrap was also different that what was stated on the menu. We didn't have time to send them back, and they were fine, just not what we wanted or were expecting. The items that she stated they were out of were not any of the things that were supposed to be in our wraps, so I'm just not sure why I got what I did. The mornings are busy so service is a bit of a wait--but it doesn't matter, if you sit outside the view is outstanding and relaxing, the service was beyond friendly (my husband and I felt bad we didn't have enough $ to leave a better tip, but the red haired lady that served us was a sweetheart) and the food was fantastic! Not what you would expect from a beachy restaurant, however the bloody Mary's were strong and the food was made perfect. Chicken fried steak and a Denver omelette. "That is a ridiculously tasty burger!" - a quote from my husband as he snarfed down the 10 oz Logger burger. It was indeed great, he let me have a bite. Our group also tried the fried oyster sandwich, and the mushroom Swiss burger, all were very good - AND the jalepeno fries - We all LOVED the jalepeno fries - seemed to be made fresh, I highly recommend them. Came here on October 30th and the Duck Inn was the hot place to be to celebrate Halloween with some adult libations in Skamokawa Washington! They have Karaoke, Pool and lots of seating. While it was packed on the night I was there, apparently this is not the normal scene and is usually quite a bit quieter. The drinks were reasonably priced but a little more than I expected for a bar in the middle of pretty much nowhere (a sign for a Mike's Hard Lemonade priced one at $3.95). The service was friendly but the local's reminded us that this is a local's spot and called out "Goodbye Portland" on our way out. read more

I went with a group of friends to the Duck Inn expecting much more than was delivered. I ordered chicken fried steak which was very tough and much thicker than I've had before. My wife and several others ordered fettuccine alfredo. All complained of a pronounced lack of flavor. One friend ordered a margarita, which came with the salt in the drink, not on the rim. We went here for my birthday lunch on 11/28/2015. When I got my food and started eating. I got about a quarter of my Avocado burger eaten when I had problems chewing. I spit it out into my napkin and there was a long dark hair in the food. When the waitress came back into our area, I privately and quietly walked over and showed her the napkin. All she said was" thanks for not making her day or even mine". Never apologized. Did want to know if I wanted something else which I replied NO as her back was half way turned from me. The yummiest hamburger ever!! I highly recommend having the Logger burger with curly fries. The burger was huge. Fresh ground beef, ham, bacon, Swiss & cheddar cheese, egg, lettuce, tomatoes, BBQ sauce. You can chose curly, steak or beer battered fries. My husband had the steak fries and really liked them. Great service, reasonable price considering the quantity/quality of food, laid back atmosphere, clean restaurant with decor that goes with the local wildlife.
