I've passed by this place all my life and always thought they seemed a little run down, but there was a promo offered recently for their fish sandwich so I thought I'd stop by and give them a try. The fish sandwich was really tasty! I was reminded of McDonald's fish sandwich, except crunchier and heartier. The bun is soft and complements the tender pollock fillet. It also comes with pickles and tartar sauce. I ordered the chicken and shrimp basket as well and, wow, the fried shrimp was a standout. It's really easy to overcook shrimp to be honest, but they really got it down to the perfect texture/temperature and the batter on everything is perfect. Well seasoned, flavorful, really good waffle fries, and good value for the portion/price. What can I say about Long John Silver's other than this place has somehow become part of our family tradition. We only come here about once a year, usually around Father's Day or my dad's birthday since they're close together, and honestly it's become one of those nostalgic meals we all look forward to because he loves it. Every time we've gone, the food and service have always been solid. My go-to is the two piece fish meal when I'm craving that classic fish and chips kind of meal, and it always hits the spot. And I have to mention the malt vinegar because they seriously have some of the best. Every single time I go I make sure to grab a bottle to bring home. I also always ask for extra crunchies. I honestly don't even know exactly what they are and at this point I don't want to know because I'm sure it's probably just delicious little oil drippings and my heart would cry knowing the truth. But they are so good. There's just something comforting and nostalgic about this place for me now. One of those once-a-year traditions that somehow wouldn't feel right to skip. For some reason I wanted to go have some Long John Silver today. I probably haven't eaten here in over 20 some years and also happens to be that I got an email telling me I can get a platter for $8 when it typically sells for 18 or 17. So I took that as a sign too let's go to Long John silver. I wasn't a fan of it and I probably won't eat there again. Nothing personal against the specific location. It's just the the food was too salty for me. Who was hot and it was fresh. When I walked inside to pick up my order, however, I did not smell any food cooking. This is a place that sells fried food, so I was a little thrown off that I didn't smell at least fish cooking. I didn't think very much of it, because I'm like, I got this for $8. Let's see what happens of all of it I probably enjoyed the hush puppies the most. I got the fish chicken, hush puppies and waffle fries. I haven't been to LJS in at least 25 years. There is only 1 on the whole south Sacramento area, and I've driven passed it a million times but never had the urge to try it till scrolling through IG and seeing @eateatwithkeysh do a LJS review and it made me want it. The hubby and I decided to try and I can truly say that I'm pretty impressed! $6 each for a fish basket, chicken basket, and fish/shrimp basket. The food was piping hot, crispy, and pretty good. This place used to be really good. The food was always fresh and service was good. Something happened in the early 2000s. Service was slower and the food didn't taste fresh. I hope it's better these days. My parents used to like the food but we stopped going here. Occasionally, the tables needed cleaning. Funny that not only this place went downhill as the location on Northgate did at the same time. read more

Its hard to find a stand alone Long John Silvers nowadays. I hate it when I find one and its combined with like a KFC. as those don't serve fries, only potato wedges. Luckily this one is stand alone and has fries!!!! Their fries are really good and crispy and their hush puppies are on point!!! The staff is friendly and quick to prepare the food too. My husband's not so secret guilty pleasure is Long John Silver's fried fish. While it is located in a somewhat sketchy area, we haven't had any issues when we visit for lunch. Service is generally cordial and we get our food pretty quickly after placing our orders. The dining area is consistently clean, the condiment area (for ketchup, tartar sauce, vinegar) is always stocked, and the self-serve soda fountain has worked as expected. Their tartar sauce is a must. We generally get their fish and fries plate - and add a piece of two of their fried chicken. When they offer fresh cod, I definitely get that instead of their usual fish as the better flavor is preferred. We've been dining at this location for years and I have to say that we've never had an overly greasy or bad meal. I'm a bit surprised that they're not busier when we visit but that just means we get our food quicker! read more

Full disclosure: My very first job was at a Long John Silver's but that was decades ago. I have always loved their chicken, hush puppies and coleslaw and I am so sad that so many locations have closed down over the years. I was craving their chicken today so I made an order on Uber Eats and drove out here to pick it up. This location is a bit run down but there was plenty of parking, as in there is a large parking lot and drive through and there was not a single other vehicle in sight. There were no other customers in the business or drive-through while I was there and I sat in the parking lot to eat a bit. It's hard to find an LJS unattached to a KFC anymore so I was just happy to have found it. I hate the wedges they serve if you order from a combo LJS-KFC. The food was delicious as usual but the fries were soggy and not crispy as usual. I would give this location 4 stars, but they did not put silverware in the bag even though it was requested in the app, and then to confirm, I asked again when I received the bag because it was tied and I told the silverware was inside verbally by employee. I would definitely come back to this location during daylight hours and if you haven't tried LJS I would recommend having some soon as they seem to be going extinct :( read more

I headed over to LGS today around 11am. This location is relatively quiet but staff is very sweet. Food was fresh and delicious! I haven't gotten LJS in years and it's great to finally grab some. We got the fish and chicken platter. The inside looks the same as always has been since I was a kid. Very nostalgic! My fav thing to ask for is a side of the 'crumbs' as seen in the picture. Only downside about LJS is how expensive it's gotten over there years. We used to be able to get a platter for $7.99 but at least the food is still good! read more

I've been on a fish and chip kick lately and since it was late night, long John silvers was my only option. LJS is a place you rarely see advertised and it's always empty but manages to stick around. Since it was close to closing time, we went through the drive thru and ordered 2 Fish and shrimp platters with fries and coleslaw and an order of popcorn shrimp. I did want the cheese bites as one of the sides but this location does not have them. When we got home, we noticed they did not give us any of our coleslaws. They did load us up with tartar sauce, vinegar and cocktail sauce which is a plus cause I loveeeee to drown the crispy bits in vinegar. There is just something about their batter and the crispy parts that are so good. Fish was good and the shrimp were nice and plump. The popcorn shrimp was a way smaller portion than I expected. Price is surprisingly cheap. I got 2 pieces of fish, 5 or so shrimp, 2 sides and some hush puppies for $13. Not too shabby. Overall I'm bummed they forgot our coleslaw but it still satisfied my craving. Is there better options out there? Of course, but to satisfy a late night craving this place works just perfectly. read more

This is a very nice LJS! We drove up from San Jose to have lunch and pick up a foster dog from a woman who drove in from the north to meet us. Before she was scheduled to be there, we were able to park right in front of the restaurant, get a table in the front window so we could watch our car (which had our own dog in it), and have a fabulous lunch! The young man on counter duty when we were there was super friendly and accommodating! And the food was expertly prepared! I had a hankering for hush puppies this summer. Having spent some formative years in the South, hush puppies for the uninitiated are golden golf-ball sized balls of crispy deliciousness with a tender cornbread type center. They are usually eaten as a side with fried catfish and accompanied by coleslaw. It was another 100 degree plus heat wave that made me consider abandoning my kitchen for the rest of the summer. So basically I needed someone else to cook and since no one else in my family or friend circle understands the cult of hush puppy, was on my own. They are basically fried cornbread balls with a hint of savory onion. What could be better? They are, alas really tricky to make and I've never gotten the recipe down. So how to satisfy the craving that comes about every five years? Long John Silver's to the rescue! Sacramento has about two locations. this one is a bit far afield, but it was close enough. The location is on a busy interchange with a burned out RV nearby as a landmark near the old Florin Mall (update: the burned out RV had been towed away the next time I was here). Granted, the ambience could be better but as long as you avoid at night should be fine. You're not going here for ambience, but for fried food. When you have a craving for hush puppies, you have to take some risks! I ordered two pieces of fish and six hush puppies from the a la carte menu in the drive-thru. The employee was patient as I decided what to get. My order arrived with a five minute wait which I saw as a good sign. Indeed, they cooked my order fresh and it was hush puppy perfection. I go to LJS every time I go to Sacramento. I particularly like this location because it has all my favorites. They have fried clams and crab cakes as well as fish. I usually take extra home to enjoy later. I have found that the fish reheats best in the oven but the crab cakes and clams can be reheated in the microwave in a pinch. The employees are really nice and pleasant to deal with and I will definitely go back next time I am in Sacramento! read more

I'm not sure why Long John Silver's is rated so low. It's a bit salty, but every time I come here, I always love my food and it's always piping hot! I'm a sucker for fast food and I'm upset that they closed all the locations in the South Bay so I can only get it when I visit family in Sacramento now. I always go through the drive through and they typically have some sort of coupon available on their website that you can show them on your phone to redeem (no need to print it out). Without these coupons, LJS can be a bit expensive so I'll always go when there's a good deal. I love the fried fish here. The better is phenomenal and extremely crispy. I don't like their fried cod though since it was dry the time I got it. The standard fried fish is less expensive and much tastier. Additionally, the onion rings use the same batter as the fish and it's delicious! I don't like standard onion rings so I was surprised that I liked these so much when I tried them. I crave them all the time because they're that good! They never give enough tarter sauce even when I ask for extra but that's not a big deal. read more

The fish and chips are pretty tasty, not the best I've ever eaten but at the same time better than some restaurants. The tartar sauce could use a little work but the fish is tasty. It's nice they have a 2 piece combo and the fries are portioned to fill one persons serving. I would come here again because its fast, convenient, and the menu differs from your typical burger fast food joint. Curious about their Sunday all you can eat buffet.
