My daughter and I came in the other week for dinner. When we arrived we were told it would be about a 10 minute wait that ended up being 25 minutes which was annoying but understandable. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was advertised to be sausage, egg, cheese, and spinach on an English muffin. What I received was a sandwich with all of the above plus quinoa, onions, green onions, and a spicier sauce lathered on. For some that might be fine but if the sandwich is advertised to be much more "normal" and plain than that, that is what I would expect to receive. I am willing to try something else but I would expect the items on the menu to be exactly as described. I was very unhappy with what I received and did not enjoy it at all. I came here with family for brunch. We had to wait 25+ min until we were seated and it was very crowded and noisy. The coffee was cold and disappointing. We asked our waitress to heat it up a bit and after she did, it was tepid. The food wasn't bad. We started off with some cheese curds and a cup of chicken tortilla soup. The soup had about 1/4 in of grease sitting on the top of it and the cheese curds weren't hot. I got a breakfast burrito that was good. My family got the salmon burger, bison burger, cheese burger and a cubano sandwich. Although the food was good, I felt like it was overpriced for the quality. We are on a long drive across a few states. On the way, I spent 30 minutes researching for a place to eat. We chose this place. We only have a short amount of time because we need to pick someone up at the airport. So I timed this perfectly to fit our schedule. We show up and guess what? They're closed. What a wonderful surprise! My sister and I were spending an evening in St. Paul and we were starving after the long drive. Listening to other Yelpers, we decided Longfellow Grill looked promising. It was easy to find parking on the street (it was a Wednesday night). The dining room was packed, but we were told the wait would be less than 10 minutes, so we found 2 open chairs at the bar (where several people were also dining) and ordered a couple of drinks. The bartender was attentive and fast. My only complaint would be that the glass of wine I ordered was a little on the skimpy side. Before we even had a chance to pay our tab and take a sip, the host came over to get us. Our waitress provided great, friendly service. I had the BBQ Pork Sandwich and my sister ordered their version of the Cuban. We both had sweet potato fries and they were AMAZING! I filled up on the fries (with chipotle dipping sauce) and couldn't even finish my sandwich - which was also very, very good. My sister finished both, she said it was delicious, and we had to turn down dessert. For a comfortable evening out, I would highly recommend Longfellow Grill. read more

I live quite close, so I have been there numerous times over the years - same every time - place is very loud, but has a reasonable menu. My daughter still thinks it the "shiz", but I would like it if they would find a way to give you better spots for conversation and something on the menu that is outrageous without being salty. A good place, not great, but decent. I will be back with kid in tow, but I could find many places better for the $$ within a couple of miles - hope they step it up and not rely on the "locals" as much. Kind of like my view of Edina food - good, not great, but the locals drive it. Hope they realize that French Meadow and the like are now within a couple of miles. I expect a really great presentation or dish for the neighborhood - but maybe they view their competition as the Craftsman (kinda like the Hyundia commercials where the think their cars are as good as ....). Place used to be great, but they need to kick it up for the long run - everyone else in the neighborhood has. Their wine is good (try the Duxoups), but priced a bit high - maybe the neighborhood?? For $10 a glass of more, I expect better wine - maybe I need to go back to basics and order a beer when I go there, Let's see what the summer holds - I hope this place holds it together, but unless they go back to their roots, it will be tough around here - too many REALLY good place within a few miles - I loved it in the past - time to step it up Longfellow. I love this restaurant! The wait staff are extraordinarily well trained in customer service. I have rarely witnessed the level of dedication and regard that each server seems to have for this restaurant and for it's management. I love the menu, the rotating specials, the specialty drinks, the rotating art on the walls and the extraordinary spring - fall outdoor patio overlooking our great Mississippi River gorge. I enjoy their summer galas held in the communal outdoor space - always great food, music and beverages. I value that they allow pets on their patio, which makes it easier for me to just drop in during my neighborhood stroll with my friend and her dog Gates Brown. read more

The staff range from one server who is a wizard at what he does, to a couple too-cool-for-school hipsters who you feel like you're bothering, to courteous and capable, to a couple servers who were, to put it kindly, not terribly oriented with much, but sweet nonetheless. The fish tacos are absolutely incredible, and almost everything we've had there is really good. Except the wings. They're swimming in a pool of grease. My friend and I went once and the kitchen basically sent out half her meal, which was strange, but whatever, they fixed it. That's the worst I can say about this joint. And anyway, the manager was great. I forget her name but her attentiveness more than patched the situation up. It's super loud though, and the inconsistent service makes you wonder what you're going to get when you go. We'll still go, the food is so creative and fun, and so are the drinks, and we love the atmosphere, huge open windows facing the river parkway, it's really pretty on snowy winter nights. read more

I've tried a variety of menu items and nothing stands out - expect for their breakfast menu. The wait staff is often too busy to care or way above what ever question you have to ask. We've been going to Longfellow Grill Sunday afternoons once or twice a month for their Happy Hour, which we thought was one of the best HH's around. Apparently it was too good of a deal, because we found out when our bill came that as of this weekend, their HH is now only mon-fri, no longer on weekends, and beer is now BOGO. Boo! We like the food and atmosphere, but now have less of an incentive to drive there on Sunday afternoons! Perhaps we can find a good weekend HH closer to home. read more

Their waffles, pancakes, toast, eggs benedict, and "Farmer's breakfast" always have me coming back to Longfellow Grill whenever I'm nearby. We called ahead at 10:15am for a party of 5 on Mother's day. We were told the wait was about 40 mins. Installed the no wait app to watch seating ahead of us. We came to restaurant at 11am and was not seated until 11:45am. It really took an hour and a half. I noticed many people were seated ahead of us and was told that walk ins were priority seated. So, if we didn't call in we would have been seated sooner. Would have been great if this was mentioned on the phone. We ended up with a 4 person table with the 5th chair in the way of the servers. We live in the area and we're looking for a happy hour that extends after 6:00, and thought we would try out Longfellow Grill and we were not disappointed! We have been to other Blue Plate restaurants and are always pleased, but our waitress Annie, the food, and the dog-friendly patio made this by far our best experience yet. Amazing service! My boyfriend and I stopped here after a long walk and we were treated like VIPs. Our waiter, Fitzy, was new to the restaurant, but he was awesome. They celebrated my birthday, mother's day and our anniversary by giving us a free brownie dessert AND a cheesecake to take home with us. This place has a decent happy hour, but aside from that I was unimpressed. I came here with a group for a birthday party, we waited for over an hour to get seated, even though we called ahead with "reservations". The food is overpriced, and the waiter we had was unwilling to meet me half way. Granted I have an unusual diet, but the one thing on the menu that I could order came with a side that I could not eat, I asked if I could sub it for a side with the same price on the menu and he refused and acted annoyed. Considering I hadn't even necessarily planned on eating and mostly came for drinks it wasn't a tragedy, but the rude waiter sort of ruined the mood for me. The Longfellow Grill is one of my favorite restaurants. The menu is very creative--every item has a little twist to it. I do have to say my one complaint is that they took my favorite item off the menu--the Elvis Burger. That burger was the best burger i have ever had. (PLEASE BRING BACK THE ELVIS BURGER!!!!!!) Aside from the Elvis Burger, other favorites of mine include the meatloaf (I like it best from their dinner menu--during lunch time it comes in sandwich form), steak and perogies, the pear salad, and the fish tacos (I think they moved this from an occasional special to their regular menu.) Oh, and for appetizers, the gorgonzola cheese fritters and sweet potato fries are just to die for. I probably have gone to the Longfellow grill on average two to three times a month for the past three years that I've lived in the area and I have not gotten tired of it. They also have some great kid friendly meals too. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere--stop on by!!! read more
