Ate here on a regular basis years ago. Food was always good. We moved out of the area so haven't been in a few years. Visited today.... Just wow. Employees were most unfriendly (if they hate their jobs please work somewhere else) Fried mushrooms were good, but didn't want to give us a plate to eat them on. They are hot fried...were we suppose to eat them on the table?? Speaking of the table....we had to put napkins down so we didn't stick to the surface. My grilled chicken breast was the size of the palm of my hand, and I have small hands. Mashed potatoes were yucky, hard cold. The bathroom smelled like sewer vent back up. Had to hold my breath and exit quickly. This whole restaurant needs a good cleaning and attitude adjustment. Won't go back and don't recommend you go either. read more

Back in 2011, I had a heart attack while eating a burger at the Longhorn Café on Rittiman Rd and spent most of the next week in ICU recovering. And yet, I keep coming back and eating more burgers - that's how good they are. The Big Juicy is a classic and you can dress it up however you wish. I love how my tator tots and fried okra are always served piping hot, like they just came out of the fryer and they haven't been sitting under a heat lamp in the back of the kitchen. And they are always so crispy - I assume they change the fryer oil frequently or they must clean it really well. I have a bone to pick with their chicken fried steak. In the land of great CFS, they shouldn't serve one that had been in the freezer a few moments earlier. In this part of the country, it's hand-breaded or nothing. Having said that, it's not bad, just not as good as it could or should be. Their club sandwich reminds me of one my grandmother used to make for me when I was a kid - perfectly toasted bread and no scrimping on the meat and cheese. Longhorn Café is more or less high quality fast food, but don't expect super quick service. Sometimes it can take 10 minutes for your order to come out. This place has gone downhill. The place was dirty. Restrooms dirty. Tables sticky like they had been wiped off with a dirty dish rag. That's if you could find one that didn't have dishes piled on it. At least 50% of the tables had dishes on them. Well, another once highly rated restaurant left to be ran by people that don't give a s@*t. Bravo! read more

I really wanted to like this place, but it just wasn't what we expected. It is a very casual place and we liked that aspect of it. The staff was patient, friendly, and we have no complaints customer service wise. I asked about their fried items and they fry EVERYTHING in the same oil. That meant that I couldn't eat any of the fried items due to cross contamination. My girls love Mac n Cheese and this one just didn't deliver. They said it was a bit spicy. My husband got the patty stuffed with jalapeños and he also stated that it just wasn't what he expected. The GF burger tasted good, but not being able to have any sides with it was just disappointing. I wish I would have taken a picture, but I didn't, of how my husband brought our food to the table. They place it in a big round serving tray. If it was just me and my girls, there would be no way we could have transported that to our table. So, if you have any problems with balance/coordination I hope they have someone that can assist you. If you are a germaphobe or anything close to it this is not the place for you! Great burger place! I loved the vibe when I walked in. The decor is like rustic barn with lots of funny signs & extras in the decor (longhorn stars hanging from the ceiling & dinosaurs on top of the longhorn horns). Once you enter the door, walk straight in line to the menu to order. I didn't notice if they had a QR code or paper menu to order so I imagine it can get kind of crowded in the little corner of you are trying to look at the menu while others are ready to order. We ordered 2 combo sandwiches-one was the chicken fried steak sandwich with tator tots and the other the jalopeno cheeseburger with onion rings. We added an appetizer of mushrooms and luckily the attendant asked if we wanted a full or half order. We got the half order. There is a sign on the register that shows all that comes on your burgers so have them remove what we don't want. I got a side of gravy (which ended up being a huge bowl) for my chicken fried steak burger and 2 sides of ranch. I should have ordered more on the ranch as these are pretty small. Texas tea is a must have for me and I always go 1/2 sweet and 1/2 unsweetened. The sweet tea wasn't as sweet as some places but it still delivered. We opted for our appetizer first and boy those mushrooms were HOT. I had to cut them in half and wait for them to cool down for a few minutes. Please be careful as the juices from these huge mushrooms can really burn your mouth. The mushrooms were very tasty and the batter was nice and crisp. We definitely enjoyed them. The chicken fried steak burger was very good. It had a nice crunch from the batter and it was delicious dipped in the gravy. The tots were nice and crispy. The jalopeno cheeseburger was really good. There were plenty of chopped jalapeños and it was super flavorful. Delicious buns on both sandwiches. Our food was definitely not greasy and everything was fried to perfection. The onion rings were double onions and then fried in a light but crispy batter. The ranch complemented the mushrooms and rings very well. This is a self service kind of place. You grab your food from the counter when they call your name, you get your own silverware and drinks but you do leave your trash on your table for an attendant to come and clean. They do have a party room and outdoor seating as well. There were a few arcade style games in the corner. Overall this was a very chill and tasty burger place. In our growing world of chain fast foods, I am happy that there are still wonderful places like this to go to. I feel like there is more love in the local food rather than the fast food chain. We've been coming to longhorn since the Blanco location in SA. This particular location we have been to a handful times over the last few years and I've always enjoyed the cleanliness and continued freshness of food This trip, they really missed the mark. Floors were filthy, we had to walk to the very back corner, and my husband is disabled, just to get a wiped clean booth. All the other booths had food or were dirty and needed to be wiped even though there were only a couple of customers. Many of the condiment containers we saw were too gross to use. Our table didn't even have one. Even the windows and art on the walls had food and filth on them. The bathroom left little to be desired as well with stained and dirty sink, items on the floor and broken soap dispenser. And then there's the food. All I can say was my red soda was the highlight of my meal. The burgers used to be fat fresh and juicy with loads of fresh lettuce and toppings almost too big to hold. This one I feel like I could've gotten at a Burger King. Top it all off with less than enthused employees and thinking we won't be back. read more

First timer after 3 years living in NB. Great location, staff, ambiance. Definate step up from nearby fast food fare. But, my burger was not juicy, overcooked, barely warm. The single cheese slice was sad at best. Bun and veggies were perfect. Fries were not hot. Onion rings were mid at best. Nothing like the menu pics. The food delivery was slow. Seemed like Doordash is prioritized? Seated customers orders took longer than expected. If evening dining, bring sunglasses. Sun sears through the tinted windows. Please get sunshades for the front windows. They have a "Party room" but should convert to a Gen X video/pinball arcade. Please add more/bigger TVs for sports viewing. Order 10108, Host Zachary Zachary should not be doing customer service...he has no pulse....mumbles. 2nd I ordered ToGo first thing......I was alone ordering 3 burgers....that's a tip off. So my order was made slow motion.....one burger at a time, but only from warmed stuff, including old fries and onion rings. And they were out of the mushrooms..... The kid putting the burgers together was not speaking clearly in the mic and several other orders sat on the counter....I didn't realize one was mine. I first got this place confused with the Longhorn Steakhouse. When we entered and realized it was counter service I was disappointed but we trudged on. Let me address the service first! The person taking our order which is scribbled on a black board and was hard to read and harder to understand was less than helpful. Not knowledgeable at all and very unfriendly. She appeared annoyed at the several questions we asked and couldn't answer one of them. You order the food at the counter and then have to pick it up at the other end of the counter. The ambience is quite Texas. We liked the privacy of the wooden rustic booths and wooden benches. We gave this place three stars because over all the food was decent and some was very good. The very good was the chicken tenders which were cooked to order and very hot upon arrival. Unfortunately the fried onion rings were lukewarm. They were very tasty and had a light batter and again cooked order. Management needs to teach the people how to coordinate the delivery of the food! It was obvious to us that the onion rings sat cooked as they waited for the chicken tenders to be cooked thoroughly ! Finally, we were disappointed in their "house burger "! First from the menu it appeared that a piece of cheese was included because it listed all the available cheeses but NO WHERE could we see it was an add on (extra cost) . It was just ok at best and we probably should have opted for the Angus beef 1/2 pounder about $2 to $3 more! We again hate being nickle and dimed at restaurants. Expect to pay between $25 and $30 for two adults and more if you add on more than one alcoholic beverage. read more

I came in here to check out their burgers since I was hungry in the area. This establishment seems to cater to older, retired crowd during the day. There was a retired crowd playing cards. Cool atmosphere and friendly staff. I ordered their famous juicy hamburger with cheese. The burger reminded me of old school bowling alley food. It had mustard and mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato's and pickles. I also had a large order of onion rings which are really tasty. They remind me of the fresh onion rings across town on other side of IH35. The soda syrup and and carbon mix was on point. Was the burger good? Yes. Great place for a juicy burger. They have a juicy burger. We were here again for a birthday party, and it was very busy. We got the party room reserved, so we had plenty to seats and tables. About 20'pf us. The place is clean. They have a few video games and an outdoor patio for dining outside. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any onion rings this time around, but it all worked out. My wife really wanted the sweet potato fries, so I just order her the sweet potato fries instead of onion rings. My wife and I have been here before so, we just get the burgers at a burger place. Our friends got the chicken fried steak and the fish plate, and they were not happy, they should have just gotten the burgers, lol. Moving back to New Braunfels is always a hard adventure when you have food allergies ... so I was SO happy when they had a grilled chicken sandwich that I could put on a GF bun. The chicken is moist and flavorful, they don't butter the bun and all the veggies are fresh. I asked for extra pickles and tater tots and they didn't fu*k it up at all. My husband is a normie and he had the grilled chicken on a normal bun and their fries. He really liked it. I don't remember the total of our ticket, but coming from Austin it was probably on par or cheaper than we are used too . So far I have been two times and each time the customer service was great. So sad to see this place get so bad. Have been a regular and this week was rough. Waited an hour for a burger and the workers were off their game. The fry cook mentioned the manager stormed out and caused big backups.
