I've been here numerous times because a family friend always seems to only buy us gift cards to this restaurant, but I'm not complaining. I digress. Anyways, the quality is certainly there. I'd say the steak meat is of better quality than that of Texas Roadhouse, one of the competing franchises nearby. Texas Roadhouse gives you a bigger bang for your buck, serving steaks at a better rate. They also offer a better roll appetizer. However, you'll get a more quality cut steak here at longhorn. Big parties beware. It took us over an hour to be seated and we were only seated once we talked to the manager and picked the table ourselves. It's not like we were twenty people it was a party of seven. When we were seated we were asked how things were going. Our poor waitress was given no support and had to do everything herself. When we did get our food the steaks were layered in pepper, the potatoes were cold, the only thing that was adequately cooked were our appetizers. The manager attempted to re-frame our experience before we left, but how he thought that was even possible after two hours of waiting and subpar food defies explanation. read more

Ordered take out for the pork chops and calamari. They gave me my bag of food and it was missing my salad and calamari. I asked for silverware and they said they put it in. My fault for not checking. Got back to hotel and of course no silverware (plastic ware). The calamari tasted like sugar with the sauce. Soaked in the sauce. The pork chops were very chewy and absolute no flavor what so ever. The salad just tasted like chemicals. The bread they have me was hard as a rock. I know it's a chain and I ordered something out of the norm but it was disappointing and not worth my hard earned money what so ever. Should have gone to Hy Vee and saved a bunch of money. read more

We just had the Dinner for Two special and I was severely disappointed in the steak. My husband ordered medium and there was no pink at all in it, and I ordered medium well and it was so dry and gross. The husband said he'd still eat it later so we kept it but for a nice steakhouse I was pretty bummed. (And I'm not very good at complaining..) Aside from the steaks, the ambiance in the restaurant was great and the other couple enjoyed their meal (although the other guy's steak was on the other end of the spectrum and super rare). The Parmesan crusted chicken was amazing and so was the french fries. Sweet corn fritters had more cornbread in them... They weren't as nugget-y, but we're still good. read more

I took Dad out for Father's Day here (his choice!) and it did not disappoint. The ambiance, staff and food were all great. I ordered the parmesan crusted chicken (very tasty!), BF ordered the prime rib (he said it was good but not the best he's ever had), Dad ordered the renegade rib eye (I am positive it was just because of the name. He's a goof like that) and Mom had a steak as well, but I can't recall which one. I know she enjoyed it though. Longhorn's side choices were all very good and prepared well. Sure, they don't have a ton of options, but at least they all look and taste good. Can't say that about every steakhouse style restaurant! I gotta admit... This place knows how to right a wrong and take care of a customer (see my last review). Amanda coaxed me into coming back and giving them a second try after a bad eating experience last time. I'm glad I came back. Amanda was not here tonight, but manager Jim was great, along with the service and the food. I had the outlaw ribeye with baked potato. The steak was cooked as ordered and Everything was Very good. Great experience! I stop by and grab dinner when I travel through the area. My steak was prepared perfectly(medium rare). Great selection of sides and toppings for the steak. Although the mushrooms and onions ended up coming on the side instead of on top of the steak itself( I actually prefer it this way). I sat at the bar and the bartender was very prompt and friendly. I remember her from last visits( which is rare because I eat out so frequently all over the Midwest) Managing Partner stopped by for a table visit and it was more than the token "everything okay" from most managers. The wait staff is very friendly. However I was served the wrong wine and was told she would check with the bartender and see if she poured the wrong wine. It was obvious since the wine I was served was chilled and one never chills a Malbec. Also be aware the ribeye comes with melted butter over it which in my opinion ruins a good cut of meat. I asked for my salad dressing and the brown sugar and butter for my sweet potato on the side I guess they decided I didn't need it that way. I love the food here, and the atmosphere is pleasant. The service is often very slow or behind. I think the are frequently short staffed. We eat here often and whenever Sonya is our waitress she is great! The manager is always busy trying to help everyone so I think they just do not have the staff to accommodate people for some reason. If you are not in a hurry this place is a good eat. read more

We be here amongst the miles and miles of corn fields in Iowa. Quite a different look than So Cal. Anyway on food. Appetizer freaks that we are we had Sweet Corn Fritters, Sweet Chili Calamari, and Fire Cracker Chicken Wrap. Would order the corn fritters again. Crispy on outside and bready cake like inside with corn. Fire cracker chicken wrap we passed on. Just did not like the taste or texture. They were soft and mushy. The seasoning of chili or something was just too much and was just not our style. The calamari was plentiful and quite sweet and spicy. I thought the order was quite large but the pieces were small and there was a lot if breading. My son love it but I am more picky I guess. NOW the steak, mmmmmm. I had hickory salt crusted filet. I did not need a knife. It was really good. My son had the prime rib and that was really good too. Had salads and baked potatoes and they were very good. Our waiter was awesome and it was a good experience. He even removed the fire cracker chicken from our bill. We said there was nothing wrong with it, we just didn't like it. I thought that was very nice of him to do that. I would go back and try some other appetizers and definitely have that steak again read more

Honestly the WORST steakhouse I have ever been to. They can't cook beef correctly, the servers will tell you you're wrong when you know how a steak should be cooked. (Ex: I ordered a medium New York strip, it came back completely brown on the inside, it was well done, I stated there is supposed to be a warm pink center. He told me I was wrong.) bad bad bad. We absolutely love this place! It just recently opened and soon became our favorite place to eat! We have been here 3 times since they have opened and their service has been great every time & their food so delicious. We keep saying we need to bring so & so here because they would love it, but now we find ourself thinking that everyone would love it! I love the filet & salmon with their mashed potatoes & the rice that comes with the salmon! A bit pricey compared to other steakhouses in the area but we think it's well worth it! read more

Been wanting to try a longhorn statehouse for awhile. After my first visit I think it will be a while before I come back. Food is pretty meh,, tried both a steak and tried the lamb chops. I drove through thick fog for most of the day on Wednesday. checked into my hotel and went to 2 places to get a bite to eat, but they were closed. I stopped in at the Longhorn and asked if they were open, I was assured they were. The place was empty, it was after 10 PM and super foggy out. There were three guys at the bar and that was it. I had a great steak and was not rushed at all, even though they locked the doors shortly after I got there. I will be returning next time I am in Waterloo. read more

I give them 4 stars because they have amazing food! Absolutely the best! They are just short of 5 stars because of service. They just don't seem to be prepared for the amount of traffic they get on the weekend. We always walk out spending around $75 for the 2 of us so I just wish they could get a grip on their service. We called ahead & were told that it would be 25 minutes. We stood in waiting area & waited patiently. Mind you there were 6 empty booths/tables. Maybe hire more servers. 6 groups of people came after us & were seated before us. There was one hostess manning all the shenanigans going on at the hostess station & waiting area. She kept calling these groups that came in after us so there were always people up there so we could not even get her attention to say "hey! We were here before them". It was so disorganized. Finally after 45 min we got her attention & were seated. The manager touched on our table & asked if things were going good. I explained to him what had gone one in the waiting area. I thought if there was a glitch or if the hostess was not trained properly he would want to know. He apologized but in kind of a way that seemed like he was brushing us off & seemed annoyed. Anyway- come for lunch when it's not so busy & the service is much better. The food is outstanding so it make it worth another shot I guess. read more

The prime rib was good, prepared MED rare without being overdone. Sides were good, decent bar, and fast service. First time my wife and I went it was Grand Opening week and the food was amazing. Come to find out the staff was all from other states and the corporation does this to give the place a good start. Anyway, 2nd and 3rd times we went my Porterhouse was no good with poor service and kinda long wait for how not busy it was both times. The most expensive of all the steak houses in the Cedar Valley and I would avoid. I don't wanna pay $30.00 for a dry overcooked Porterhouse. read more

First time trying this place,service was wonderful,drinks are not watered down,our order was received quite quickly...my husbands steak was a bit underdone but he said the tenderness and flavor were so good he did not mind!when our waitress Brittany found out it was my husbands birthday and we were celebrating by meeting his birth mother and taking her to dinner, she got a camera took pictures of them and gave them each a copy to commemorate the occasion! We eat here quite a lot and normally, I'd place them a bit higher but the current menu is filled with the 'hot' craze. There are basically no appetizers that won't burn your mouths. I realize many people LOVE that but there are many of us who don't. Otherwise, we've never had a bad meal here or bad service. The filet's are choice. read more

The bartender mixed up the bloody Mary mix with the sangria mix so I got a nasty sweet wine tasting bloody Mary. My steak was overcooked. On the plus side the manager came and apologized and compensated for the drink and steak and brought out free deserts. For this I may come back someday. read more

I ordered the 6 oz sirloin w Sweet potato-butter & sugar/cinnamon. Well, she filled up my iced tea without it getting empty. She's {Alexis} is beginning to improve & adjusting her service to be tuned into me- the customer - not every little corporate agenda plugs that so many times will turn a server with natural potential into a walking talking idiot robot that you just want to go away. So when the 6 oz steak came, it looked small, dwarfed by the sweet potato. The sweet pot was superb. Never had one better!!! Now the steak was cooked to my request - Medium - warm & pink on the inside. What can I say, the steak totally & Whole Heartedly won me over. It melted in my mouth with minimal chews required to digest this masterpiece. "Alexis" stopped by to "see how the first few bits are?" I looked her in her eyes and said "Superb - The chef may live." She was authentically relieved because she knew she might have blown it with the heartless robotic opening. When a restaurant serves such gems as the steak, & giant sweet potato that Longhorn does - well you can get by on having unexperienced fools for food servers. "Alexis" showed she deserved to be on the floor serving up such brilliant food. She caught my mood & adjusted her service accordingly. I'm 1000 times happier for going in there on a whim. I was also at the Ro_d Hou_e Steak House on the other side of town - which also had brilliant fresh and tasty food & vegetables, & acceptable "Bar Service." But Longhorn IS IN A DIFFERENT LEAGUE. I took my parents here for lunch. There were plenty of tables and booths clear but we still waited 20 minutes to sit down. I had to ask for a straw 4 separate times. I didnt recieve one until I was almost done eating the waiter dumped ranch all over the table didn't clean it up. Two of our meals came at once...both steak...while my mother's prime rib sandwich was late. Then had to be returned because it was wrong. Had to ask several times for the appetizer dishes to be removed. Horrible horrible service more than likely won't return!!! read more

I had dinner at this restaurant last Friday with my girlfriend. The service from our waitress was good and very attentive the dinner was what I would have expected from a restaurant of this type as part of a chain. I had the peppered ribeye and it was flavorful though the sauce that they provided on the side was totally nondescript. It was an adequate meal for commercial steakhouse though for a restaurant in Iowa, a state that is known for its beef the quality of the meat and the expense of the dinner was hardly appropriate.
