This review is long in coming. My wife and me have been coming to The Longhouse for close to 8 years now, and it has never disappointed. A big reason for that, is the people that work there. If you have been more than once to Longhouse, you will hear Lulu's voice greeting everyone that comes in, and if you know her will get a great big hug (if you're lucky). She's also an exceptional waitress... so much so, she's always busy, and is always asked for with clientele (like us) that have been coming in for years. Lulu always works with the customer to accommodate your dietary needs (within their menu), and always has a smile on her face, and has become a good friend over the years. If Lulu's not available, Lucy is also fantastic... actually everybody there is great! When it comes to the food, you cannot go wrong here. Their breakfasts are exceptional and abundant, with special omelet and breakfast entrees during the week and weekends. You can't beat the lunches either... the burgers are crazy good, along with the other sandwiches and salads (don't forget the garlic fries). The salads are awesome... FRESH! We've never had a bad salad here... even their side salads are solid. Danny Maroudas (owner) has done a fantastic job with the kitchen. The kitchen staff uses a deft hand when preparing seafood... especially the salmon. I would put their salmon up against other top-shelf places in the valley. Same thing with the rest of the dinner items; ribs, pasta, steaks... the kitchen just gets it done well. If you are looking for a "trendy Silicon Valley" dining spot, keep driving. If you want great food, without a lot of hype, this is the place to come. If you come on the weekends, be prepared to wait a little bit, this is a big family place, and it's not unusual to see multiple parties of 15 or more for Saturday or Sunday for breakfast or brunch. They have a full bar, and the drinks are like the food... really good, and the brunches have a great array of different Mimosas and solid Bloody Marys to sure up the brunch crowd. The bar gets busy during football season too, with entertainment in the summer on weekends. If you're in Gilroy and are looking for a place to grab a great meal, and a nice time... The hashbrowns were crunchy outside, mushy and a little thick in the middle. They should've pressed them harder on the grill. The over easy eggs were underdone for my taste, the whites were still oozing liquid and jellylike near the yolk. Eggs were tender to the point of seeming almost poached. The garlic tri tip tasted a little liver-y -- maybe that cut always tastes like that, I don't eat it often enough to know. I don't remember the last tri-tip I got from here tasting like that. And the garlic tri-tip is exactly that: tri-tip with garlic smeared on top, no other seasoning. It was a fairly lackluster meal, overall. Wait staff are extemely efficient and attentive! read more

Old building with a farmhouse or barn look on the outside, with lots of vines. Inside a diner with a down home feel, with trophy case and longhorn horns on the wall. I tried the Chef's Special burger . This is on a roll with bacon and avocado spread and red onions, and it comes with fries. The roll had a good fresh flavor and didn't fall apart. The burger was well done with good seasoning on it, and the bacon was crispy and in a decent amount. Avocado was a good addition to the burger. Fries were somewhat crisp and not overly salty. Ketchup, mustard and hot sauce are on the table. The service is friendly. read more

For what it is and how long it's been there it's proved itself. I've been there over fifteen times and overall the service is good and so is the food. I've lived in this county since 1968 and so many long time restaurants have gone out of business. It's not spectacular, but it's very consistent and far from crappie considering a fair amount of restaurants in Gilroy. read more

But couldn't even get a refill on my beverage. Had an early dinner with my wife after running errands all day, very cozy setting and great staff. We were sat promptly and the waitress was super friendly. My wife had the steak Kabobs and they were cooked great. I went with the steak and prawns which did not disappoint. The fresh bread they brought out was also a highlight. This is a review of the bar called the beehive. Nice little bar, it has a pool table and 50 cents a game is a great price. Lots of cues, there's plenty of chalk for cues and hands. They have great deals on drinks and food. I ordered a garlic steak burger with fries for $9.99. I expected a $10 cheap steak sandwich, what I got surprised me in a very positive way. The steak was cooked exactly as I ordered it, medium, it was not tough, it was quite easy to eat, didn't need a knife or tyrannosaur teeth to gnaw it apart. The best part is the steak was actually thick, I would estimate about 1/2 in thick. For a $10 steak sandwich that's very generous. The seasoning was great as well. The bartender is friendly and refilled my soda at least 5 times, I'm a non-alcoholic drinker. No drama, friendly patrons and a nice looking woman that likes to play music on the jukebox and dance. I went to visit a friend I don't see often. I'm very happy overall with the experience and hopefully will be returning more frequently. It's just a little far for me. Highly recommend. read more

I asked if I can get an item on the kids menu, she replied with "How old are you?, You can't get that, you're too old for that..". He had me try it out, the mashed potatoes were those cheap powdered ones you get in packets that you mix with water, the gravy was gross and the turkey was cheap . My food, pancakes , at most 5/10. Here's the thing. They have DELICIOUS FOOD. They also sometimes have GREAT service but it is not consistent. We tip 30-50% but that doesn't seem to matter. Terrible, kind, sweet service. 6 people waited on before we are served. It is almost like I want to ask what we did wrong ? Is this our issue? Why? Nothing but being polite, never sending a meal back, enduring incorrect meals CONSTANTLY. But we are ignored. Super not helpful for us coming back. No resolution in sight. We stayed in Gilroy last night for Red Barn VW Swapmeet. I tried to look around for local places nearby. I stumbled upon this place, I saw reviews that could go either way. I placed a phone order for pick up and the person who took my order was very polite. My order was: 1. Appetizer scampi and garlic bread- when I got there he gave me garlic bread and shrimo scampi pasta. He didn't apologize for the error but said it was my fault for not pointing it out that I wanted an appetizer. I didn't want to argue, so I just took it. Got back to the hotel and it was horrible. It tasted like microwavable food. My boyfriend ate that and he ended up in the toilet all night to the next morning. 2. I ordered ribeye steak extra cut- I ordered it medium. First cut was pink but ok. The more I kept cutting, and even cut the other end of it, it was straight raw. I stopped eating soon as I saw it. 3. Garlic fries- you're in gilroy you have to have garlic fries. I do not recommend. My honest opinion, stay away go to 152 Bbq next door. After my son's golf tournament up at Eagle Ridge, we stopped in finally to try them out for dinner. We've passed by a few times but this time the timing was right. If you like an old steakhouse/diner feel, this is a good place to get your fix. We were visiting Gilroy Gardens, and I asked one of the workers there for a good local place to eat and this place was recommended. At 7:00 pm on a Saturday, the place was full but we didn't wait long to be seated. However, once seated, the service was kind of slow (but friendly). They were definitely busy and running around... but it took awhile to get our order in and for our food to come out. We were seated in the back by the bar and eventually a really great band started playing. The lighting wasn't too bright, but I feel like it was enough to see that the tables could have been cleaned a little more. The live music was really entertaining as it wasn't too loud and the music was for everyone. The kids we had with us (and the adults) were all dancing! The food... I liked some of the stuff we got, and some missed the mark. I got the garlic salmon salad... it was not flavorful at all. Very plain. But my friend's cowboy pork chop was exceptional. My other friend's steak salad was okay... I would say better than my salad. The kids hamburger meal was huge. It would have definitely filled me up. And my boyfriend enjoyed his chicken parm. If I were in the gilroy area for breakfast, I would definitely come back to try the breakfast menu... specifically the garlic pork chops and eggs plate. read more

The pork chop itself is also delicious, crispy on the outside, flavorful and juicy inside. My friend got the USDA prime steak I think? It came with four eggs so portion was huge, great value!
