I was in the area and I noticed the full parking lot, which caught my eye, so I decided to give it a try. When I entered, the place was bustling with activity. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. I ordered the cowboy burger, and it was delicious! It was incredibly juicy, and the fries were perfectly crispy. On the way back from Pinnacles National Park, my friend and I were ravenous and looking for a cool spot to wait out all the traffic on the way to the East Bay. Fortunately we had the pleasure of stumbling across Longhouse Restaurant! And I'm so glad we did, because this place is probably one of the best spots with portion and quality combined. We both ordered the NY style steak with mushrooms on top-- keeping in mind this comes with a starter salad, soup and a side of potatoes (mashed, steak fries, or baked). Soooo much food! And for the price of 25.99, that really isn't bad at all. You're getting essentially a full meal and the some. Our server was great and the service was prompt. Despite it being Memorial Day, it was pretty slow! We were one of two parties in the establishment :) My one complaint would be the bathroom -- the lock seems spotty, and doesn't completely lock all the way. Longhouse is a diner, a couple of steps above Denny's. If you don't mind a few flies or an occasional hair in your food this is your place. Canned mushrooms in the omlette and cinnamon toast made on sourdough bread, using some sort of cinnamon spread were not what we expected. As we glanced around we noticed that there wasn't anyone in the restaurant under 70 except the two of us. Their Omelette is a frittata, crisp bacon is rubbery, and non-dairy creamer is your choice for your coffee. The portions were large so we were able to eat enough to be full but not satisfied. The one thing we did like were the pancakes. ( We should have stopped there.) Nice staff. $50 for two breakfasts. You decide. read more

After leaving Gilroy Gardens, we decided to stop for dinner before our long trek home. It was about 5:30 on a Sunday, and we came in with our 2 young kids. The average clientele was significantly older, it appears to be the type of place where "regulars" comprise most of the business. The specials were a bit dated, but not a problem. While the servers were very friendly, they were either understaffed or function at a slower pace. The food took a very long time to come, and after waiting a long time, we actually walked up to the register to ask for our check and to pay. The food was not impressive. I'm not picky about food in the least (we wanted your basic diner, nothing fancy). I got the tuna melt and it wasn't flavorful, melty, nor crispy. My husband's steak and ribs special was not great, and he was burping raw garlic the rest of the long drive home. Yuck. The kids got breakfast (eggs, sausage, pancakes), and they were just okay. The bathrooms were disgusting. I say this as a person who has no problem with camp bathrooms and port-a-potties. There was toilet paper and seat covers strewn all over the laddies' room. My husband said the men's room had an open trough filled with urine and no water or deodorizer so it smelled like urine, and there was brown all over the toilet seat. We've been in outdoor gas station bathrooms that were in better shape than these. Aside from the nice servers (and kind patrons) we were not impressed. Bland food, long wait, high prices. We stopped by on our way home from a San Francisco trip. It's a cool stop because across the way you have the Gilroy outlets. We stopped by on Monday Morning and their was no wait but I would assume that on a weekend this place would be packed. The restaurant connects to a bar that is not open during the day. We all had steak and eggs and the steak stood out I don't know if it is local but it had a unique taste. The staff was friendly and accommodating to my 4 kids. I have eaten here dozens and dozens of times over the past 30 years. Always a locals favorite because they serve good food at reasonable prices. I mostly go for breakfast (bacon/sausage/eggs/pancakes/etc.), but the lunch is okay if you are looking for a burger or sandwich. And the bar is uber popular, but that ain't my scene so I can't comment on it. The service is friendly but inconsistent. A couple of great waiters and a few not so great. Food-wise, it is similar to the other good breakfast place in town, O.D.'s. Most would rate Longhouse a bit below them for that meal. If you are looking for breakfast in Gilroy, my three favorites would be O.D.'s, Longhouse, and Sandy's. Honorable mention to Dany's. read more

Decided to give this place a try before shopping. My daughter liked her French dip, however I ordered breakfast and it lacked flavor. Especially the county potatoes, there was no seasoning. I also ordered a cup of coffee and the cup had lipstick around the edges. I wanted to leave after that but my daughter really wanted to give this place a try. I asked for a disposable cup for the coffee but no matter how much cream and sugar I put, it wasn't good, it tasted burnt and bitter. $4 for a coffee I didn't drink. My step dad likes to go here occasionally and he picked up breakfast for the family today. I ordered the Tri-tip steak and eggs with my steak medium rare. I couldn't believe how over cooked the steak was. It was burnt on the outside and hard as a rock! I cut the steak in half to see how the inside was cooked. It was cooked well done. We like to try out different places around where we live and help out the Mom and Pop shops/restaurants. When we arrived here we were immediately greeted and seated. Our waitress was Lulu I think her name was. Boy is she a firecracker! She recommended the Rib Eye steak. When it arrived it looked pretty good. But, the quality of the steak was not as good as she said it was. But, the food was okay. I wouldn't go back. But, it was nice to try it at least once. read more

Well, I was going to rate it a "one", but decided to give two, only because my sister ordered off the breakfast menu and she thoroughly enjoyed it and ate a lot more than she usually does. I, on the other hand, had no such luck. I was hungry for spaghetti and ravioli so ordered that, along with garlic bread and a salad. My mom ordered the country-fried steak meal. Her steak was prepared very well, but the mashed potatoes had that tell-tale instant flavor, and the veggies (broccoli, zucchini and carrot), were either boiled or perhaps steamed, but very soggy and barely drained. They had no seasoning on them at all, and even some salt had very little effect on adding some flavor. They were so watery and my mom's plate was swimming with the cooking liquid. Okay, on to my pasta. I was born into an Italian family and know what a good pasta sauce tastes and looks like. When the server placed the plate on the table, I was surprised at how very bright red the sauce was. It was totally smooth and devoid of any signs of herbs such as Italian seasoning, parsley, onions, garlic, etc. I took a bite and the pasta tasted exactly like someone had picked up a big bottle of very sweet ketchup and squirted it all over the cooked ravioli and spaghetti. My sister tasted it and agreed, adding that it reminded her of cocktail sauce. Whether it was ketchup or cocktail sauce, why would anyone, especially a restaurant, serve that as a pasta sauce? I thought maybe someone in the kitchen had made a mistake. I scraped the "sauce" off and ate the raviolis. I did not complain, as we had just left funeral services for a relative, and did not want any more grief. Besides, on our way out (lunch was $80 for three, by the way), we noticed that other diners also had spaghetti, and the "sauce" looked just like what I had been served. So, probably not a mistake. The "salad" I was served was just some chunks of plain lettuce too big to eat without cutting with a knife and fork, that had a big pile of shredded carrots on top. I ordered blue cheese dressing, but it did not look or taste like blue cheese at all. It didn't have any chunks of blue cheese and was very smooth, thin and no specks of seasoning. Kinda tasted like watered-down mayonnaise. My garlic bread had a very tasty topping on it, but it was very sparse, leaving most of the four slices of bread plain. Would have been superb if there had been enough topping to flavor each piece. Hey, at least my Sprite was good! (They do not offer root beer, evidently. Root beer is what I wanted.) So...I would go there for breakfast, especially their omelet with spinach, mushrooms and mozzarella. But I have been very dissatisfied with every lunch or dinner I have ever had there. Side note about the atmosphere and service: Went at lunch time, and it seems that the owners or management staff try to operate with minimal staff. Wait staff was flying back and forth, trying to clean off tables, set new places, take orders and serve food and drinks, as well as try to cover the cash register. But this caused a LOT of constant racket, and five or six (maybe more?) times I jumped, startled, at the sound of a pile of ceramic dishes being dropped into a tub right next to us when tables were cleaned off. Some of those dishes must surely have broken. When I went to the register to pay, the gal handling the transaction was constantly interrupted by frantic co-workers all wanting or needing something RIGHT NOW. Took a long time! It was a tense lunch, rather than a relaxing one. read more

The Beehive Sports Bar at Longhouse has become our go to stopover for drinks and yummy bites on our way back from a day trip to Pinnacles or a road trip down South. The bar crew and locals are friendly and the bar is very dog (and cat) friendly, which is always a plus because we take our fur baby Rochelle with us on road trips whenever we can. Decent wines by the glass, stiff drinks and a very good bar menu. The tri-tip sandwich is always a good choice. Plus a very long happy hour in the bar, including weekends. Bonus! read more
