Who knew that this place was this amazing and didn't shout it from the rooftop?!? Folks, this is the bakery of all bakeries. This place is hard to describe, but to sum it up, their baked goods are amazingly flavory. We pulled up and was confused with the crowd. We thought it was for the gas station across the street. Nope, all the traffic was headed to Longs. Everyone wanted donuts. Was it a Sunday thing? From what I learned, this was everyday! The line was almost distracting to the point that we didn't know what to do. We smelled everything delicious as each individual scent passed our nostrils. Have you ever seen the cartoons where they float in the direction of the pie being baked? Well, that was this. So we ordered a half dozen regular, a few chocolate, cinnamon and apple fries (no hole flat donut), and peanut butter, oatmeal, and chocolate chip cookies. Yep, my eyes got the best of me. Longs has been a staple in my life since I was a kid and I still love it! Every Sunday after we church my parents would take us to longs after church for warm yeast doughnuts. They never failed to be great and although the lines are always long they move efficiently and it's a gathering spot for everyone in the city. Let me explain this. Growing up, Longs was located inside predominantly black neighborhood, but the language of great doughnuts is universal.....it brings people together from all walks of life. Long's is an Indianapolis staple. I'm not sure how, but this was my first trip to actually buy them for myself-every other time people bring them to my work! Of importance: cash only! I did not know this and was luckily limited (or unluckily limited, depending on how you look at it) with what i could get. Mind you, donuts are only $0.70 each as of this written, so I still got plenty of suburbs for less than $5. I highly recommend the 'cinnamon fry.' Honestly the first time i went there it was hyped up by people from the Indy area. Definately an imitation Krispy Cream donuts. No flavor, to much sugar and horrible service. I'm really boring and prefer glazed donuts and I like theirs! Especially if you get them when they just came out the ovens and are warm. I've also tried their brownies and cookies plus baby alligators. All are good but not amazing. I love their hours though, they are open pretty late which is great when you get a craving. I'm always up to come and pick up some donuts from here. There are tasty and inexpensive. You can get different varieties of the donuts. MAKE SURE YOU BRING CASH!!!! THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CARDS OR APPLE/ANDROID PAY. the mornings can pretty brutal wait wide. Lines can go out the door. I often like to go around 10:30am. Hardly ever a wait. My faves are the cinnamon twists. Parking is limited as in you have to park on the street. My advice is to go with someone so one of you can go in and order and the other can handle the parking. Oh, Long's Doughnuts!!!!! So I got hip to Long's back when I was living in Indy. I first tried them on National Doughnut day and have fell in love ever since! This past weekend, I went down to Indy to visit some friends and just explore the city. As I was posting pictures on my Instagram of all my fun adventures, my mother leaves a comment under one saying "Bring some doughnuts home." She didn't have to name the place where she wanted the doughnuts... I already knew she was talking about Long's! They don't have a parking lot, but you can park on the street next to the shop. Yes, there is always a line to get some doughnuts. BUT!!!!! They are super effiecent to how they serve you. The workers are very friendly and patient, even with a long going out the door. I highly suggest you knowing what you want when you get up to the counter as well as having cash on hand! In my opinion the cake glaze are THE best!!!! I ordered a dozen (half cake, half yeast) glaze doughnuts for my mom and dad back in Cleveland. And I didn't eat any at all on the ride to Cleveland from Indy! But let me tell you the next day, I woke up to only 4 doughnuts left! They are that good! If you are visiting Indy, I highly suggest stopping by and trying out the doughnuts! So we were on our way to another bakery and we saw they were closed and this was our second choice. I am very happy we came to our second choice!! We walked in and the aroma of delicious donuts flood your nose. We were extremely lucky as they had just made fresh yeast donuts (plain glazed as we say in NY). So we decided to buy a ton of different kinds. We got half a dozen yeast donuts and about seven other ransoms ones. Each one was so tasty. We ended up wiping out all of our donuts in two days. They tasted so fresh and full of flavor. This definitely my go to spot for donuts when we visit. The only issues I have now is that they don't take credit cards for one. In this day age, you need to take the card. Use the square app at least. Have a minimum card charge. The other issue is there is only street parking, which can be a pain. The cake donuts and chocolate glazed donuts are very meh. But the regular glazed donuts are more addictive than heroine, crystal meth, and crack combined. I'm not a donut expert but the regular glazed donuts have a different dough than the chocolate glazed donuts. They taste like they were made by virgin unicorns and sprinkled with fairy dust that's been aged in Valhalla for 25 years. Good, fast service. A wide variety of donuts. The building and interior are unfussy and retro, which tbh is refreshing. If anything slows them down, it's indecisive or new customers. I know because that was me, but they and the other folks in line were friendly and helpful with recommendations. I got a variety of donuts and baked goods, and they've all been tasty. They even had the less common cream horn. Best donuts ever? Not sure, but if you're looking for a classic donut and experience, you won't be disappointed. I have been stopping here on Friday mornings for a long time. They have hands down the best yeast donuts in town. If you get there at the right time ask for them hot. They are even better.
