They are sugary sweet, and maybe that's why so easily melt your mouth. I was born and raised in Indy, so I think I kind of take Long's Bakery for granted. My mother, grandmother and great-grandmother used to bring home Long's as a special treat when I was a kid. Maybe that's why when I walk in the door, I feel like I'm a part of history. I can't quite explain it. Of course, the donuts are delicious, but I'm the odd bird who prefers the brownies instead. How do they manage to get them so rich without making them super sweet, I'll never know. If you only try the donuts, I recommend branching out and giving the brownies a try. Usually, there's a long line, but it moves pretty quickly. So keep that in mind when you get up to the counter. I have not been here in at least 6months if not more with my healthy lifestyle change but with my daughter home for the holidays she asked if we could get her some. So she and I stopped in and grabbed a half dozen of yeast and a half dozen of blueberry cake plus 2 cinnamon fries. I promised myself I would not get donut wasted but I had to have a cinnamon fry in the car and later a warm blueberry cake with vanilla yogurt ..Oh my goodness. You haven't lived until you've been to Long's. I love this place. I thought I had found the perfect own net when I finally had the opportunity to try a fresh Krispy Kreme however; Long's definitely changed my mind. Their yeast donuts are definitely a go-to treat, but looooove their Apple-fried too. It's a light donut (I'm guessing fried) then glazed with these little bits of apples and cinnamon on it. Mmmmm mm!!! It's an explosion of deliciousness in your mouth. There are 2 locations in Indy. One on 16th st & Tremont and the other one is in Southport on Southport Rd. Some people say they like the one Tremont better, but Southport is conveniently closer to me,; so that's the one I usually go to. However I find them equally great. The location on Southport I feel like I get in and out quicker, but depending on the day the location on Tremont I can get in and out in about 5-10 mins. Long's has seriously good donuts. The best I have ever had in the entire state! I grew up eating them since we lived close by. Now I live 35 minutes away and only get them a few times a year, which is probably a good thing. There is always a line and you need cash. Even at noon on a Friday there is a line! They do keep a very adequate supply and I can usually get my favorite cinnamon nut ones. The regular yeast ones are also very good and the cream filled long johns are to die for! Seriously the best cream filling I have ever had. They are always filled with cream and jelly. Other places in town should take lessons from Longs on how to fill a donuts. Gave it a 2nd try today and I was pretty pleased! Got to try their yeast donut today and it is in comparison to Krispy Kreme, however does not beat a Krispy Kreme. Their pecan roll was amazing!!! It was moist and not overly sweet. Chocolate bar had a cream filling and that was yummy!!! The fruit filled donuts are never my favorite but this was good. Lines were bad but customers kept rolling in! I can enjoy this place again. Will be back but it may be awhile. read more

I've been to Long's a million times, but have just now thought to review! Sure, they are busy, but that's when you know a place is darn good! Plus, the line adds to the anticipation level and gets you drooling and ready to buy too many of them when you get to the cashier (who only takes cash, FYI.) The regular yeast donuts are worth writing home about- they are the gem here, but the rest of the goodies they offer are great as well! I want to highlight my "wedding cake" where I used a few hundred Long's Yeast Donuts as the base/main part of my display AND we used their donut holes to create a groom's cake. They were a HUGE hit with our family and friends and my husband and I saved a lot of money by not buying a big, spendy cake. It was all-around awesome. THAT is how much I love Long's. read more

I finally got my hands on an acclaimed Long's donut and it did not disappoint. I prefer cake donuts to yeast, but this glazed yeast donut was mighty fine. Apparently they are also cheap which sweetens the deal! Not sure if I would drive across town for these or wait in long lines, but they are good. Message me if you know of others around the US that compare to these two Potential Negatives first: The line can be long depending on the time of day, the parking is lacking because of people but also because you park on a side street beside housing and convenient store, and bring Cash because there's no plastic used here. Service: The service is friendly and you can tell they have an urgency to the line. When approaching the counter to pay with my card, I was told it's a cash only spot, but if I didn't have cash they wouldn't let me leave empty handed. I could tell they meant it, but luckily had cash. I will mention, there are signs posted in bright colors, I just didn't see them bc I was enjoying the atmosphere. Atmosphere: Not just the local feel, this place IS LOCAL. You can tell the locals because everyone is greeting each other by name and asking about their mamas, local sport teams, Indy 500 and casual local news references. Point is, people know each other here. Donuts: Fantastic!! I can only compare them to Brits donuts which I mentioned above. Ask for them Hot, but as quickly as they sell them, they'll most likely always be hot. I found my new bakery! I just moved to Indy back in July and this has been such a great place to grab a morning snack but EVEN a birthday cake! I took a German chocolate cake to my dad that said "Happy Birthday Dad I love you" which is what I requested in the colors I asked for! Very sweet and HE LOVED IT!! He told me he had to go to yoga the next day to burn off all the calories he ate from eating it all.. lol! They have a wide variety here and it's all incredible. I don't even like donuts and I love Long's. Truly, these are the only donuts I eat. Specifically, the yeast donuts. I've never had such a soft, impeccably glazed, perfectly sweetened donut. I've had other donuts and they're good but I always come back to the yeast. These are the best donuts I've ever had. I even go to the ATM and stand in line for them (two things I hate to do) because they only take cash and they are often very busy. I actually am grateful that they only take cash because it keeps the transactions and thus, the line moving fairly quickly. After crossing a bridge, I made a left hand turn on to a crowded two way street. With cars parked on both sides, as I slowed down I noticed a police car slowly pulling up right behind me. Stopping on a semi-legal parking spot. The robust sized policewoman slowly walked across the street into the doughnut shop. Then my head turned forward slowley. I noticed another police car parked on the other side of the street. At this point the review stopped, after 50 plus? Reviews. What more can be written about a doughnut shop? But then I realized that this is but one of hundreds of doughnut shops across the country. And if this review were able to save, but one person from receiving a ticket. Then it would have been worth writing this. Similar things that others have written: Before getting to my vehicle, I had started to eat one whole bear claw.
