Fried Catfish with chips

Long's Fish Camp was the first restaurant I visited when I was down in Mississippi for the first time. It gave me a memorable snapshot of what I can generally expect from the particular area. I have become accustomed to the DC metro area restaurant culture in recent years that entails micro aggressive and pretentious attitudes, as well as a common paradoxical phenomenon where you are being rushed out to clear the table but experience slow service at the same time. However, until coming to Long's Fish Camp in Mississippi, I forgot what it is like to be in a restaurant that serves not only good food but helps me fall in love with the culture and hospitality aspects of it. I visited Long's Fish Camp with a party of 4 on a Friday evening around 17:30. This visit was also without a reservation. The restaurant was nearly packed already but we managed to get a table. The server acknowledged us right away as soon as we stepped foot inside the door and let us get seated where we wanted to be. She then quickly served us with drinks, and coleslaw straightaway. I heard from my friends who lives in the area that everyone loves their coleslaw recipe but nobody knows how to duplicate them at home. I can believe it after witnessing my husband liking the coleslaw because he normally doesn't enjoy them. I ordered a basket of fried oysters and my husband got himself some fried catfish. Both orders came out piping hot and fresh. The wait time even though the restaurant was packed was less than 10 minutes after being seated. I have not had basket full of juicy fresh fried oysters in a long time. I got 12 big tender pieces of of them for less than $13. That's unheard of in DC area where I'd normally end up getting 3 pieces of meager fried oysters for $8. I know one of my favorite restaurants in Tokyo serves 5 pieces of it for roughly USD$32. Another noteworthy thing was that our server was very busy but she always made sure that we got everything we needed and we're happy. All of our drinks were topped up at all times and hush puppies readily available with a smiling gracious attitude. Normally, if I am in DC area trying to get a table for 4 on a Friday evening, it would require a reservation of sort, or having to wait for at least 30-45 minutes. The host wouldn't be so friendly and the food, price, and the service quality would never match what I experienced at Long's Fish Camp. Sure, this restaurant may not seem like a fancy looking place for those who are more accustomed to newer chain restaurants or big city restaurant. But instead, they offer excellent food and hospitality that puts any other restaurant I have gone in recent times to shame. In short, I cannot wait to go back to Mississippi and visit Long's Fish Camp again.

Good food fast service. Couldn't ask for anything more. Stopped in on a Thursday night wasn't too busy. Had the fried shrimp dinner. Definitely couldn't finish everything.

Ambiance - A locally owned gas store / deli, you can order a variety of FRIED food, both Surf or Turf, plates, family style or a la cart. The only fresh seafood they might have is Crawfish, when in seasoned. There are three or four small tables to seat and eat. I recommend as order as takeout. Service - the staff were fast and friendly. With a steady supply of locals coming through, they ready to take your order. The deli section is stocked with a lot of fried items so you can get your food quicker. However, I would recommend to get one of their PoBoy sandwiches. You won't go wrong. You may have to wait 5-10 minutes but it worth it. Food - 4 Stars Shrimp PoBoy combo w fries and drink. $13.99 I would have given it 5 stars but the fries were overcooked and too crunchy. The quality of the potato of the fries could be better too. The bread was fluffy and toasty just as it should be for a PoBoy! The amount of shrimp was overwhelming. See pictures. The sandwhich came w lettuce, onions, pickles and tomatoes. No mayo. I ordered the 8" combo meal but they have a 6" size, if you counting your calories because your cholesterol will still be high with the amount of fried food! Oh, I forgot, they have shrimp fried rice too. So get a side order! I forgot to order mine. Bummer. Enjoy

Loved the Rockefeller and Chargrilled but was not crazy about the Elote with the corn and and little spicy. Just a personal preference. We also ordered the Boogie Bombs that were so good with the pepper jelly. For entrees I ordered the Blackened Redfish which come which vegetables and grits. The sauce over the redfish was great! It complemented the Redfish. The only thing that I would improve on would be the grits. They were a little dry. My husband ordered the pepperoni pizza and Ashley recommended the pepper jelly with it. We had great service. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend this place.

The lighting is a bit dim for our old eyes but otherwise it has the feel of a pub. We loved that. Our server was very nice and helpful. We ordered the bacon cheddar fries. The fries are like a cottage fries that are then cut into strips. Perfect fry on them. The bacon could have been crispier but great flavor and a good ranch. I had the KPauls pasta. We all enjoyed it. Pasta cooked perfectly al dente. If you love a saucy pasta this isn't for you. It is nice and creamy but not swimming in it. Big plump shrimp that tasted great. Also has chunks of chicken breast and sliced sausage. Uncle Jim got the red beans and rice. Great flavor but barely warm. The catfish is a thicker cut and battered in a coarsely ground corn meal. Aunt Robin had the shrimp and grits. Those were the star of the show. So creamy and incredible flavor. Very generous amount of nice sized shrimp. Mike had the Keg Stand burger. He requested the sauce on the side. It's definitely a unique flavor. Nice soft bun. The meat was grossly over cooked but would have been tasty had it not been so dry. The onion rings that came with the burger were soggy. Overall, enjoyed it. We know what to get next time. Shrimp and grits and KPauls pasta!!
