As the sister restaurant to Maenam, you can really taste that same attention to balance, depth, and quality in every dish. My partner and I are regulars here. Some of our go-to favourites: green curry, pad see ew, gai lan with pork belly, and the Thai fried rice with grilled pork. The flavours are super consistent every single visit, which honestly is half the battle with takeout spots. Their rotating specials are also worth watching for m, and are always fun when there's something new in the mix. (my pictures don't do justice) It's definitely a bit pricier than your average quick Thai spot... however, the ingredients taste fresh and the portions are satisfying. Love the little thoughtful touches too: self-serve water station, compostable containers and cutlery, and an easy casual setup that works perfectly for a Quay lunch or dinner. I love going to Longtail Kitchen for the authentic Thai food. Their menu is simple but everything on it is delicious. Although it is a bit hard to find (it is tucked inside the food court of the River Market), it is getting busy through word of mouth. Since it is part of the food court, you order your food at the counter and then find a table to sit at. They will usually bring out the food to you when it is ready. When we go, we usually order their deep fried chicken wings and fish balls to go with a tofu pad thai. Nothing beats their fresh off the wok pad thai! read more

Cute little shop with a nice outdoor seating area, good food, good service. Can't here one afternoon and literally everything on the menu sounds fantastic. They were sold out of the squid dish that sounded most appealing to us. We ended up ordering the mee gorang and a couple of beers. Sat outside and the view was lovely. The mee gorang was really good, I would definitely order it again! They have a self serve water station and a few kitchen items to buy in their market. We had a wonderful experience at this spot! The highlight had to be the cumin braised lamb; it was the best lamb I've ever had. Rich, soft, and incredibly flavorful. I also enjoyed the pad see ew and the shrimp curry. I personally didn't like the pad thai that much but I think that is just a personal taste of mine. Delicious little spot that's part of a small food court in the Westminster Quay. We got the egg rolls, pad Thai, pad sew noodles and the pork belly. Food taste and seasoning was so good, we all agreed it was near perfection. Location is cute and would have been so fun to eat outdoors if the weather was a bit warmer. I've been here quite a bit and it is usually one of my go to restaurants at the River Market. Their food standard is usually 4 stars. However on this particular experience, I had asked for my pad thai with prawns to have no peanuts as the person I was sharing with is allergic, and lo and behold.....there were peanuts mixed in and it ended up being not a very enjoyable evening for us. We ordered the pad Thai with chicken, roti and fried chicken wings. The order took about 35 minutes around 5:30pm. I was really looking forward to the food but didn't have too high expectations. The food was great and came piping hot. The pad Thai noodles with tamarind base had a wonderful chew and flavouring to it which I don't find in a lot of pad thais. The roti was a surprise! It was deep fried and eas crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I act it without the dipping sauce so I can't comment on that. Lastly, the chicken wings that everyone raves about were pretty good but not amazing. The fried chicken itself was dry and batter was thick but I am a weirdo and like dry chicken wings. The chicken meat itself was not marinated so had no flavour. The salt sugar garlic chip cilantro sprinkled on top made the chicken wings ok. The fish lime chilli dipping sauce was Bomb though and more than made up for it. I then saved up the sauce and dipped it with everything I ate the next day. read more

I have been meaning to try this thai kitchen for the longest time! Seldomly do I find a good Thai spot, let alone it being around the New West area, which is a lot closer to home than downtown! This is a fast casual restaurant where you order upfront and have the waiter serve the food at your table. It is owned by the same people who run Fat Mao & Maenam, and is a perfect spot for a casual lunch or afternoon meal! Not to mention it's right by the Quay, so in the summer you can catch a nice outdoor patio view as well. Pad Thai Prawns (4/5) - $16 Taste: I ordered the pad thai with medium spicy and that was the perfect level of kick needed! The noodles had a nice chew, the flavour was a good level of saltiness and sweetness, and I could taste the smokiness from the wok incorporated in the noodles. Downside when served in a takeout container is that the noodles were stuck together a little. Portion Size: Large portion for 1 or shareable between 2 people with an average sized appetite. Longtail Wings (3/5) - $10 Taste: The wings were pretty standard, deep fried golden & crispy, juicy and delicious! They were good but not amazing, I wasn't a fan of the sauce as it was a little too much on the sweet side for my liking. Portion Size: 6 pieces [Value for Money] Not cheap for a fast casual restaurant, I would say this would be at a similar price point for a normal sit down Thai restaurant. There's nothing like a nice hearty meal on a cold night after a movie. Came by to Longtail for dinner on one of those occasions. Was told I had to stop by and try the food here. Its inside the New West River Market and not a spot I'd probably visit without the recommendation. The shop is pretty neat as it looks like you can buy the actual ingredients of the food served. Grabbed the Singapore Fried Noodles. It was really good overall. Singapore Fried Noodle is one of the dishes I really enjoy at Asian restaurants. I liked the mix of veggies and meats in the serving. I recognized this spot as I was strolling down the New West Quay as I had seen it prior and remembered it was pretty highly reviewed! The restaurant is quaintly located by the boardwalk just outside the market. First thing I will say, is that the restaurant lives up to its high review! I asked for their recommendation which was the pad see ew and it did not disappoint. Here is a good definition of thai cooking, quote "Thai chef McDang characterises Thai food as demonstrating "intricacy; attention to detail; texture; color; taste". It is a blend of ingredients when juggled together creates something amazing. The strong aromatics, sweet, savory, and and a spicy edge to give it a little kick. This is what I thought of while I was eating this dish and it was simply amazing. All the ingredients felt like they were blended so well and that there were many various components to it as well. This is most amazing when no one ingredient overpowers the other, which is what happened here, every ingredient worked in harmony. We discovered this little restaurant when we were exploring the Westminster Quay. There is very limited seating inside (maybe 2 or 3 tables) and then a bunch outside. The food came pretty quick and in to go paper boxes. We ordered Spring rolls to start. These were very crispy and had noodles inside the filling which I loved! I ordered the pad Thai with shrimp and my other half ordered pork belly with gai lan. Both dishes were good. The pad Thai wasn't anything the blew me away but it was tasty and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. The pork belly was nice and crispy and the gai lan was not over cooked, bright green and yummy. The heat was nice too, not overly spicy but they do ask you if spice is ok so I'm sure you can have it without if you choose. My only gripe was the price, for takeout style, they had indoor nice restaurant ambience pricing. This place is not that. Loving this place! I got back from Thailand a week ago and coming here helped me relive all the delicious food memories - not to mention it's also cheap compares to the other places in Vancouver. Thai tea tasted like how it's supposed to taste although a bit sweet for my liking. My date and I got curry fish balls, Chinese sausage fried rice with 2 fried eggs, and prawn padthai. They were delicious, flavourful and portions were massive! Strong (but tasty) flavour of fish sauce (main ingredient for Thai cooking!) In all of the dishes. I love Longtail's chicken wings. So got their signature chicken wings. It was very unique. It was nice and crispy. My favorite was their sauce. Its like a fish sauce with a nice kick to it. Not very similar to the ones you get at Vietnamese restaurants. One thing to note is that they are not very consistent. My friend odered the same thing and I noticed mine had the crispy garlic, chives and green onions on top. My friend had nothing topped with her wings. Been wanting to try their food for a while so I decided to order from them via Ubereats! I decided to order the chicken pad thai and a side of the sweet chili fish balls What I liked about the pad thai is that they used dark chicken meat and the pieces were so big, juicy and flavourful. They also used a tamarind base sauce which was so delicious and the rice noodles were wide and had a nice chewy texture. The portion was pretty big too and took me two sittings to finish. The fish balls were really good and was garnished with fried onions/shallots and parsley. I really liked the sweet chilli dipping sauce cause it gave the fish balls a nice sweetness. I've heard nothing but good things about Longtail Kitchen so I was expecting big, bold flavours coming in. It's located in the River Market of the Quay, which also houses one of their sister restaurants, Freebird Chicken Shack. They also have three other spots: Maenam Thai, Fat Mao Noodles and Sen Pad Thai. We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon. The inside wasn't too busy but most people were taking their food outside or to the food court. There were only two guys running the show which was impressive. The menu is up on the chalkboard out front: snacks, rice, noodles and drinks. They have Steel & Oak beer available. - Thai iced tea ($3.50) - not too sweet. Pretty subtle and they have a stack of drinks already premade. - Bicol express ($13.00) - came with a side of rice. There was pork belly, green beans, red and yellow peppers and green onion in a coconut cream curry sauce. It was flavourful, spicy and had depth. Way better than I expected. The portion was bigger than it looked. - Singapore chicken noodle ($11.00) - again, this was well balanced in flavour and spice. I've had Singapore noodles at many Chinese places but this one was excellent. All the dishes we had were great. Definitely need to return to try the rest of the menu. 4.5 stars. read more

We came in on a Sunday afternoon and ordered chicken wings, pad see uu, and a Thai milk Thai. The milk tea was meh. It seems like it's been in the fridge for awhile. Not sure if there was ice at one point, but definitely none by the time it got to me. Taste a bit water down imo. Pad see uu beef - I appreciate the generous portion of beef and greens and how the beef were all chopped up. But the dish itself was overly salty and I could only taste soy sauce with no other flavours. The chicken wings were the only highlight. Lightly battered, seasoned perfectly. Favorite part was the tamarind sauce, which paired well with the chicken. The overall experience is just alright. They ran out of water, napkins, and forks. Talk about a hidden gem. We came here from our viewer recommendations for our show BestOf604 and the wings did not disappoint. Seasoned perfectly and paired with an amazing fish sauce, these wings will keep you licking your lips long after you finish. Besides wings, we also ordered the roti and the pad see ew with beef. The roti is crispy and airy unlike most other places that offer roti. For me, I like a chewy roti. The pad see ew was tasty as well but the noods were a bit firm which may be their signature style. Overall, for a casual dining experience, I can't complain cause the food delivers and they also offer craft beer. Will definitely be back the next time we're in New West. read more

We came here with a group of 7 people, ordered a bunch of different dishes to try. Food was fresh and seasoned well, some of us found certain dishes a bit over seasoned but to some it was fine. Personal preference as we prefer more of a low sodium diet. We ordered; Roti and Peanut Sauce: These were delicious, crispy outside, most inside. Super light and airy with a hint of salt, add the peanut sauce and its the perfect combo. Chicken Wings: Light crispy batter with a vinegar soy based dipping sauce. These were tasty with or without the sauce, I personally found it a tad salty once you dip it in the sauce. Holy Basil Chicken: This dish had us a bit confused. This is made with ground chicken, we all expected chicken chunks. Topped with fried basil and rice topped with a sunny side up egg. Flavors were quite mild and did no scream basil to us. When you get the perfect bit of rice, egg yolk, chicken and some crushed chillis, it was a delightful bite. Pad Thai with Prawns: This was a hit, savory noodles, slight tang from the tamarind sauce, heat from the crushed chillis. Over all a well balanced dish. Gai-Lan and Pork Belly: This was too salty and greasy. Gai-lan was slightly overcooked and there was barely any pork belly present. Great location for those who need a place to eat -- with no reservations -- after that long walk/run/jog on the boardwalk. New Westminster Quay has really changed and it's really nice to see a casual dining place for Asian food. The southern coconut curry with rice was surprisingly spicy and very flavourful with a balanced portion of chicken and vegetables. There was a generous amount of sauce so when I mixed it with the rice, the dish was perfectly moist, not dry. The shaking beef tenderloin was good, but I wish there was a bit more sauce as it was a bit dry with the rice. It wasn't as spicy as the curry dish, which is perfect for anything who want a dish with meat that isn't all that spicy. Their pad Thai with tofu was an okay choice for anyone who doesn't eat meat or chooses to not eat meat. This dish tasted a bit too sweet for my taste, and I wished they added less sugar. I normally love to support local and artisan restaurants and shops, but unfortunately longtail has gone down and now the food is underwhelming. Dropped by to pick up some take out today, tofu pad thai, Singaporean vermicelli and green papaya salad (which now only available at the chicken place next door). The tofu pad thai was soggy, bland and no wok heat at all. I was most disappointed by its flavour because there wasn't any, except for the lime juice that was added to it after. I don't mind to pay more for good food, but that was a total waste of money. Singaporean vermicelli was mediocre, I have had much better ones at some hk style cafe. Bigger portion and more reasonable priced. The green papaya salad was the best out of the 3 items I have ordered. Having given them a few chances, I think it's time to move on. We came here because their reviews were good having higher scores. The interior design and style are well done. When we walked into the restaurant, we felt like we went to a restaurant in Thailand. We had to order the food at the counter. They asked us to wait for 10 mins. We grabbed a table that was facing the river. The view was nice. We ordered pad Thai prawns, crispy chicken wings and Thai iced milk tea. After we had the first bite of each of these food, oh my goodness! They tasted amazingly awesome! Mama Mia! It was so good! Of course their food relied on a lot of dressings and sauces but the combination was so good especially the pad Thai and crispy chicken wings. We always ordered their pad thai and the gai lan & pork belly, but this time I didn't have a good experience! There were only a few pieces of the pork belly (as picture shown) and it was very watery as seen in the take out box. The pad thai was very mushy and you can see the tofu is mushy and broken into pieces, it was also missing the "wok" flavour too, overall disappointment.
