    Fried prawns
    Wendy H.

We came here for dinner and it wasn't busy. We were able to get a table very quickly. Seats were spacious and roomy. We ordered the green papaya salad (mild), fried chicken wingettes, fried prawns, beef fried rice, and seafood pad Thai. The green papaya salad was really good -- savoury and not sour at all. The green papaya was crunchy. The fried chicken wings were crispy and so were the crispy prawns. The beef fried rice was very flavourful with basil and lemon grass flavour. The pad Thai had seafood that were cooked just right and not chewy at all. They used Tumeric sauce instead of ketchup sauce. **they don't have thai ice coffee anymore even though it's still on their menu.

This Thai place was on my to visit list for some time but I was never hungry each time I drove by! Therefore, I was glad when I had the opportunity to drop by for lunch when hunger set in. It's a very humble-looking place from the outside. You might not even notice it driving by. Inside though, it is decorated like a few small places I have seen in Bangkok. The service was friendly and prompt. It appeared that everyone working out front as well in the kitchen were Thai...a good sign when it comes to more authentically prepared dishes. I tried the green curry (kaeng khiew waan), spring rolls, and the green papaya salad. All were very good in terms of taste. One minor thing is that the serving sizes were not big. I was full mind you, just not stuffed. Overall, I would say that this is one of the better Thai restaurants in the area and on my recommended list.

Skip the Dishes So was suppose to be in Thailand, and of course due to COVID 19 the trip was cancelled. Why not order Thai food since I cant be there. There aren't any options in Richmond so ventured to Vancouver and Talay Thai. I ate here a long time ago and remember it was good, but that was dining in. We decided on a Tom Yum with Seafood, Pad Thai with Chicken and Calamari. When the food was delivered it was still hot..Marpole to Richmond pretty impressive. (Kudos to the Skip driver). Unpacked the food and smelled so good. The portions seemed small, but was enough food for two. Calamari - this was nice and crunchy, seasoned well and came with a sweet Thai chili sauce, just wish had more of it. Pad Thai - I'm not a big fan of Pad Thai in general because of the sweetness, but this has good flavour and was sweet but not overly. The noodles was cooked well and decent amount of chicken. Tom Yum with Seafood - it had the spicy and sour and was a bit salty. There were two prawns, one mussel, 2 small scallops..not a lot of seafood. This was just ok. Onto the next Thai restaurant to make up for not being able to go...sigh.

Green curry. Their best dish imo

This review is more of a 3.5/5 rather than a 4/5... The décor inside is very traditional and authentic to what you would expect to see in Thailand. From the looks of it, all the servers are Thai as well! Came here for lunch and all their dishes are well priced at $11. Wish there were more options for appetizers, but for the price, it's a good deal!! Onto the review of the food... 1. Thai iced coffee: 1/5. Horrible. Watered down, overly sweet. Didn't even want to finish it. Not worth $1, let alone $5. 2. Spring Rolls: 2/5. Crispy, yet the crunch wasn't very light. Appear to be homemade. Decent. Nothing to write about really. 3. Paid Thai: 3/5: Lots of flavour! Got this with prawns but it only came with 3 prawns. Kind of skimpy....easily shared between two people but will be more than enough for one person. 4. Green Curry: 4.5/5: This was easily their best dish. Lots of different flavours that came together really well. You could taste the basil, the bayleaf, and the creaminess of the curry went well with the coconut rice! 5. Stir Fried Chicken w Spinach and Peanut Sauce: 4/5: Not bad. Not amazing either. The peanut sauce reminded me of something that you would get at Japanese restaurants (gomae). Would I come back? Probably just for the green curry if I happened to be in the area.

I'm always on the lookout for Thai restaurants that I've never tried before so Talay Thai has been on my radar in case I ever found myself in the South Granville area. We showed up for lunch one weekday in early November and tried some of their lunch specials. The Kaeng Khiew Waan ($11) or Green Curry Chicken is one of my go-to dishes when I visit a Thai restaurant. Both lunch specials come with a freshly fried up crispy springroll filled with tightly wrapped on vermicelli noodles. My impression of the Pad Thai Prawns ($11) was very much like the green curry chicken... a bit basic and the flavours appeared to cater more to the western palate. There was nothing wrong with the food and it was a fair price for the somewhat smaller lunch size. But there was nothing here that would make me go out of my way to try their food. Perhaps it was just their limited lunch menu. I would have liked to have tried some classic Thai appetizers to see how they compared.

Lad Na crispy noodles with chicken.... very tasty

Very flavourful Thai on S Granville which make it perfect for a quick meal on the way to YVR airport or on the way back to Vancouver. We ordered the panang salmon, crispy rad na (or lad na if you don't like pronouncing your R's lol), pad kee mao w beef plus crispy spring rolls as an appetizer. Portions are not huge but decent size. The inside of the restaurant is simple cheerful and clean with some thoughtful decor of Thailand. During our meal I heard the beep beep of what appeared to be some of the takeout delivery apps. This is a good sign that the lazy click and order crowd dines here also. My hope is that with Covid that places like this can weather the storm. Definitely worthy of a return back visit! Khob Kuhn ka thanks

So it turns out there's a Thai restaurant in this part of town. Only one way to find out if it's good. Parking is available on Granville outside of the afternoon rush hours, as well as on the side streets. The interior looks like it was once a Japanese restaurant, with the thin walled booths, and a counter that looks suspiciously like it was once a sushi bar. In any case, the interior is nice and cozy. Staff were friendly, though the waitress needed a bit of flagging down. Pad Thai - nice mix of sauce and flavourings. Sweet and spicy. Quite good. Red beef curry - they use lychees here. Again, nice sweet flavour. Goes well with rice. Battered prawns - this is where the review falls apart. The prawn batter was so thick they looked like cheesies. One can get a better quality product at a mall food court. Knock 1 star off. My other complaint with this place is that the portions are a bit on the small side for the price. left hungry. The place is a decent choice, but I would also consider other places in the area.

Downside was the calamari, the pieces are quite big which make it not as crispy as it would be. The server gave me so much info about the restaurant and offerings, but it felt fun and conversational and not like I was being flooded with information. He knew exactly when to check on me and was able to guide me in the ordering process since I was unfamiliar with the menu. I ended up getting a lovely 9oz pour of sav blanc to pair with my meal. The edamame was lovely. Way too much for one person, but not expensive. Ended up sharing with other solo diners. The tofu salad was incredible. I have never had anything like that in my life. It doesn't sound exciting, but it is a true adventure in textures and flavors. I wish I could recreate it, but it was just too special to even attempt. I got their specialty, which was a salmon aburri sushi. It melted in my mouth. So much flavor, perfect texture. I like sushi, but am not an adventurous eater in the world of seafood, so played it safe. This is a meal I will think about for years. The gal next to me got a sampler platter and said the salmon was her fave, so I am so happy I got a plate full of it. Will be back 100 times over.

My partner really wanted to try their Boat Noodle for a while now so we were quite excited to try that dish. The waiter was nice and recommended a couple dishes for us. Som Tum (Papaya Salad) 3/5 The texture was nice and it tasted refreshing but it is QUITE spicy. I appreciate the authentic Thai spice level but it was too spicy for us. I liked the sourness and I know this rating is a very personal rating based on our spice tolerance. Roti with Curry Sauce 3.75/5 Nice, flaky roti that wasn't too oily. I wish there was a little more sauce. Pad See Ew with Crab Meat 4/5 Great flavor. There was a decent number of clumped up noodle but the portion was great. Good amount of crab as well. Boat Noodle Soup 4.25/5 This was the best boat noodle we had so far. Flavorful broth with generous portion of various meats. There could be an option to get more noodles but my partner got this and she was satisfied with the amount since there were good chunks of meat. Good heat that creeps up. Roselle Drink 3.75-4.5/5 Great compliment to the dishes as it lightened and refreshed our pallette. Slightly sour. It tasted better with the food than by itself. Thai Milk Tea 3.5/5 Good enough. My fellow Yelpers raved about this place when I first moved here, and my kid came here with her school pals 5-6 years ago and also raved about the wings. It's been on my list to come here forever - and last night, finally, I did. It did not disappoint. My kid warned me, there'll probably be a line up waiting to get in (they don't take reservations here. I checked), so we decided to go at an off-time and get an early dinner, around 5pm on Friday. We walked there and, miracle of miracle, there was no line and we got seated right away. (Granted, we got the last vacant table in the place, and when we left after our meal, there already was a line of people waiting to get in). Food-wise...wow. I am NOT one for adventurous eating, so there were dishes on the menu I couldn't comfortably order (I wish I could, but hey, I'm better now than I used to be!). Still, there was lots for me to choose from. And first and foremost, I HAD to try the famous chicken wings. And I can honestly say, they were the best I've ever had: SO SO crunchy and crispy on the outside, and hot and moist on the inside. OMG so so so good. I can't speak highly enough of these! My kid ordered the butter beef. It was tasty and soft ("like butta!"), and the marinade was lovely, but personally, I couldn't get over the...rawness and redness of the meat and juice (which looked like blood to me). For fellow non-adventurous eaters out there, this might not be for you, despite how flavorful it tasted. It was just hard for me to get over how it looked. (I know I'm in a minority here. This dish is one of their most popular and asked-for dishes). We had the garlic dry spare ribs. I love spareribs. These were delicious but a tad too salty and greasy. I brought most of them home and had them today for lunch. I gotta say, they were so much better for me today: less salty, and I blotted off the excess grease. Delicious! My kid ordered a "small" sweet and sour soup with prawns, and wow, it came in a huge black cauldren. I can't imagine ordering a large size. Anyhow, this soup was a stand-out soup - especially for my kid who said she had dreams about it all night (lol)! So complex in flavors - spicy, sweet, savory, chock full of prawns and sprouts and lotus shoots and pineapple chunks and and other delicious stuff.... For me, it was a wee tad too spicy, but wow, even I thought, this is a special soup. So delicious and warming. 10/10. Our servers were prompt and impressively able to efficiently tend to a full house of diners. They got it all down to a science here. One issue of note: my kid had to use the washroom at one point and she left for a very extended period of time. I actually thought at one point that something had happened to her or she was ill, she was gone so long (VERY unlike her). When she returned, she told me it was "quite a hike", around the back of the restaurant and up a flight of stairs, too. I only make note of this in case anyone has mobility issues, know that the bathroom will be difficult (or impossible) for you to access.
