This is my first time going to this place and thought to try it out. It's always a good sign if you see a steady stream of customers going into a place. The place looks dated, but it is big and spacious enough for couples as well as big groups. I like how the tables are spread apart to offer privacy between tables. Service is polite, friendly, and bonus that they don't rush you out during lunch hour. They have some specials on the menu and a decent selection with good prices. Portions are great for the price point. Will happily return. Parking is metered on the side street. read more

Looks like the place has now relocated to near Main and 28, and taken over a Chinese restaurant. Parking is available on the side streets. There are also a few spots behind the restaurant. The place looks pretty dated, like something out of the 1980s. The place is also unfortunately a bit drafty. I would recommend a spot away from the windows. Staff are friendly. As of the time of writing, there is a noodle/rice combo that includes a spring roll for a nominal fee. Best deal on the menu. Food quality is decent. Never been to Cambie Vietnamese Restaurant. It's located in between Aperture Coffee Bar and Boiling Point. We dropped in on a Friday evening (7:30pm). Teapot was brought to our table. - Chao tom ($9.00) - prawn wrapped on sugar cane. Small and pricey for two pieces. - Pho saté ($18.00) - peanut sate broth was slightly thicker. Surprisingly solid but the noodles were overcooked. - Bun bo hue ($17.00) - broth was terrible. No depth or complexity. Had to dump in some fish sauce. Would not get this again. - Bun cha ca ($16.75) - bland broth. Generic, run of the mill Vietnamese food. Doesn't beat any of the spots along Victoria Drive. read more

Cambie Vietnam was such a pleasant surprise for me as I've just moved to Main Street area and was looking for a new pho place. I was sick too so I ordered a chicken noodle pho to go. $12.95 for a small which I thought was great value, especially when it arrived! It was HUGE! I like how when they pack the pho the separate hr broth from the noodles, it's truly the only way to pack pho. Tons of chicken too in this soup and lots of noodles. It comes with a big portion of sprouts too hoisin and hot sauce. I barely made a dent in my bowl and have a whole other meal! Immediately on taste I noticed the rich sweeter southern Vietnam style broth which is so tasty! I haven't had this style in awhile so it was a welcome surprise. Delicious Vietnamese restaurant right on Cambie. It may not looks flashy from the outside but the food are really good. I ordered Banh cuon (steamed crepes) and Cha Gio (spring rolls) for my late night snack and I love them both! The cha gio is big and super crunchy. Banh cuon has a little thicker wrap than usual but it's still tasty! The filling contains ground pork and mushroom, which is original! The owners are friendly and nice. This is a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant in the area. I can understand why it has been around for decades. They offer an extensive menu including some harder to find items like the steamed rice rolls (they call it steamed crepes on their menu). Prices were reasonable. We ordered the house special pho with the deep fried spring roll and dinner entree combination F for lunch. I really enjoyed the deep fried spring rolls. It is exactly how I like it made with the rice paper wrapper instead of the wheat wrapper. There is an airy crunch I liked biting into these spring rolls. The filling was nicely seasoned. The was one of the better ones I have eaten in awhile. The pho broth was flavourful without being too greasy. There was an okay amount of noodles and beef toppings. The combination plate offered a good variety of items to try. There was a chicken skewer, a beef skewer, a spring roll, some steamed rice rolls and vermicelli noodles. All items were made well and I enjoyed my meal. The rice rolls had a pork and wood ear fungus filling. The skewers were nicely marinated. Service was great. We got menus, ice water and a booster seat right away. Food arrived in reasonable time too. I only wished they opened a location closer to my home. read more

They said they're the original owners but it seemed like they've never run a restaurant before. They didn't offer the full menu and kept going back/forth to the kitchen after finding out they didn't have crepes or combos. The server confused the order (after writing it down) & then short changed us. The soup was lukewarm and the only saving grace was the lemongrass chicken and rice. I used to come here years ago as I very much enjoyed the friendly service and different variety of Vietnamese food. After many years I returned to find out they have done nice renovations and the place looks much better. The food is even better!! Ordered a regular Chicken sweet and sour soup. Wow! Amazing flavours. Chicken looked like it was grilled before adding. So spectacular. Sweet and sour Tamarind flavour. Also ordered the Roll Dip (Reg spring rolls) The order of 3 is $12.99 but the price is worth it. Super duper crispy. I added their amazing lemongrass chili sauce and it was spectacular. My favourite place for Vietnamese food! I've actually never eaten inside the restaurant, but I've ordered delivery countless times. So good! I usually get the veggies with tofu over rice. A must-try Vietnamese restaurant As a Vietnamese I have to say this restaurant has the closest to the original taste of Vietnamese dishes. The taste here is more of the South vietnam, rich and slightly sweet. The must-try dish is the fried rolls or deep fried rolls. The fillings is so fresh with pork, and shrimp. I can even clearly feel the shrimp. Highly recommend the seafood sour soup as well. The ingredients are really fresh. Customer service is amazing. Though this is a family restaurant and the couple that owns the restaurant also serve customers, they are quick and really welcoming. Came here for a quick bite on a Saturday evening around 5pm. It wasn't very busy at that time so we were seated quickly. They have a variety of noodles, rice dishes, subs, and appetizers. I opted for the noodle combo which includes a beef noodle soup and a spring roll. The rare beef and beef ball noodles (P8) was filling--It had a lot of noodles, but I would've liked more beef. After a disappointing last meal, decided to give this place one final chance. I telephoned for a family dinner and was told to pick up in 25 minutes. My daughter arrived to collect, but the order was never submitted. Not one apology or explanation. They weren't even busy. Only one table was occupied for a Friday night. Ordered the $6.50 Tofu salad rolls around 1:00 PM on a Saturday. The restaurant was three quarters full and my rolls were ready in 5 minutes. The lady working the till was nice and offered a tea while I waited. Take away items included a decorative plastic carry bag, styrofoam tray, 2 saran wrapped rolls, peanut sauce. The rolls were well constructed with nicely prepared ingredients. Fresh ingredients created well balanced flavours. While the dipping sauce was on the sweet side it produced savory peanut flavors . I noticed they offer a vegetarian pho (indeed, a vegan one), along with a spicy version, so I did an online lunch order for pick-up on a Saturday which was ready within 15 mins. I got the spicy veggie pho ($13.95), which comes with a generous assortment vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, carrot, celery and onion), slightly wider rice noodles that you usually get with a Bún bò Huế, some tofu, and a massive portion of broth, along garnishes on the side (basil, cilantro, a green chili, and lime). The broth makes this what it is -- it's a rich, moderately spicy broth with plenty of five spice, especially the star anise. The broth has a lot of chili flakes and other bits that kind of hang around in the bottom, so the last third of the soup can get a bit gritty / powdery. Overall, this was certainly an above average veggie pho for Vancouver, which has a ton of high-quality veggie pho options at this point. Recommended. read more

The menu showed a decent selection, although I just went for the most generic pho. The server was somewhat slow at understanding our orders... I said and he confirmed that I wanted a small, but what I got was a large (which, by the way, was a HUGE portion). When I asked about this, he said "No, you ordered a large." I didn't want to make a big deal of it, so I resigned myself to paying for the large. To the server's credit, he eventually changed my bill back to the price of a small and apologized for his mistake, which I obviously appreciated (and which salvaged a star for this review). It's funny after reading the other reviews, I wonder if we are talking about the same restaurant lol. Sure, we are allowed to write our opinions, after all, this is the great thing about Yelp, versus Urbanspoon, which incredulously, has a 81% rating. Boys and girls, I almost forgot to write a review on this place, back in Nov---so what does that tell you, for a prolific Yelper like me? lol...as per pic, I'm looking at the receipt, and can't even remember what I had...guessing pho, I obviously must've had a craving in the area, because with lukewarm Yelp reviews, I would be hesitant to try unless a recent review from a high volume Yelper would bring me over the edge. Or I just needed an ice coffee. It's a medium-sized location that while clean, does need a reno, and felt more Chinese, if you know what I mean...from what I recall for sure, wasn't as Vietnamese as it should be...didn't have the full strong nice fish-oil smell like other places, where it just sticks to your hair/clothing lol. There are easily 5-7 other places to go before coming here if you are serious about authentic pho, along Kingsway and Victoria Drive. Metered parking all around. No Amex. I love this place! The people who work here are very kind, and they make our visits always feel welcomed and it's never a dull time here. The food is always well done. This place caters to vegetarians (and maybe even vegans?!) so thankful for that. The food taste delicious every time. This used to be one of my favouite pho restaurants, but since they reopened after their renovation in December and have changed owners or management ,(the people that ran it previously were awesome and there all the time, the new people didn't know what was going on). The menu has changed completely. I ordered satay beef pho which was the most disgusting soup I've ever had in my life. The whole bowl was noodles with a scant amount of broth, which wasn't even broth it was a super thick sauce of which their wasn't much and about 2 pieces of beef. ARGH! Why oh why must mainland Vancouver, particularly downtown Vancouver be plagued with sub par to bad Vietnamese cuisine?! I am from Calgary and I can tell you right now that I have never had as bad of Vietnamese food there as I have in Vancouver. I am not talking about Richmond or Burnaby, I am talking about Vancouver! That being said, I am profoundly disappointed, once again, by Vancouver Vietnamese. After struggling for over an hour to have our food delivered to our home a mere 10 minutes away from the restaurant, we were met with soggy, badly fried spring rolls and a variety of minced meats shaped into balls, skewered and cooked. The texture of minced mystery meats is something from another planet and extremely disconcerting. I prefer to be able to identify what animal the meat came from and I don't consider this a privilege. I am sorry Vancouver Vietnamese but ya just didn't do it for me. It appears that I must venture outside of Vancouver's downtown borders in order to experience quality authentic Vietnamese. We ordered take out for the first time from this restaurant, and although it arrived in a timely manner, the rest of the meal was sadly a let down. - the pho broth was half in the take out bag (had to cut the bag open to drain it out). - the vermicelli dish arrived with no sauce and the meat was completely burnt. - the dipping sauce for the appetizer of prawn imperial was absolutely horrible. It was essentially ketchup mixed with fish sauce - there was no cutlery (not the biggest deal but we don't generally keep pho spoons on hand).
