    Burnt oily deep fried beef...really?!
    Mori N.

Wanna know my experience? Ok...here it goes... This was a take-out order. If I had picked up canned Pad Thai from the dollar store I would've had a more pleasant experience. The shrimp in the Pad Thai is frozen not fresh, the texture is old seafood, and it had a raunchy aftertaste lasting into even the day after. It was not de-tailed or de-veined. So, you have poop-tailed old shrimp....eat up! There was barely any bean sprouts or tofu (see pic.) That dish had a terrible aftertaste, and I stopped eating not to risk possible food poisoning. The Noodle Rama. The noodles were cold and old sticking together like noodles would be found at the end of a left-over barrel reserved especially for cattle. But, even they I think would refuse. The beef looked and tasted like they had been deep fried, boiled and burnt (see pic.) The sauce tasted like it would if you mixed mayonnaise and ketchup, and there was no seasoning whatsoever. On top it all....they forgot our chopsticks. I'm not going to sugarcoat this for you. This was the worst Pad Thai I've had. Ever. What an insult to the beautiful nation of Thailand. *for the record 0 stars*

Pretty tasty Thai place in the Ambleside/John Lawson area. Parking is available on the side streets as well as in front. The inside is feels like someone's dingy living room. With the hot summer weather it really does feel like that part of the world. Staff were friendly. Looks like a mom and pop operation. Phad gra prow (beef) - not too dry. Served with chopped peppers, onions, beans, and basil. Green chicken curry - nice and creamy. Served with eggplant chunks. Overall a decent place worth checking out.

I am quite picky with my Thai food and it is always a challenge to get fairly authentic Thai dishes in metro vancouver. This place is a pleasant surprise and quite deserving of the stars given. It is run by Thai and while I can tell the spices and herbs are not at 100% for some dishes, they still are tasty. We requested medium spicy for all our dishes and only 1 was that. It did work out well as it balanced the rest of the dishes. We had green curry chicken and it was the only dish with heat to it. Deliciously creamy and went so well with rice. The seafood Tom kha tasted very mild and was a bit disappointing as I had better ones elsewhere. The saving grace was the fresh seafood. Scallop was so sweet. The mussel was plump. None of the seafood was over cooked or rubbery. Just wish the flavor was stronger and a bit more spicy. The beef pad gra pow was not really what I expected as I was used to the minced meat version and I preferred that version. It was not holy Thai basil so the taste very not very strong. It was also not spicy despite requesting medium spicy. The good thing was the beef. It was a good cut so you could taste the marbling and tenderness of the beef. It was not chunky and was thinly sliced making it a good good stir fry. The portion was decent and we had leftovers. This could probably feed 3 diners. Service was excellent with the staff coming by to top up our water glasses very frequently without being asked. They also checked on us and the food. I would come by here again if I have a hankering for Thai food when in west van. A keeper.

Got takeout from here and ordered their pad thai, crab delight, larb and mango sticky rice. Everything was pretty decent with the most unique dish being the crab delight. In general, there is nothing negative about their food but also nothing exceeding expectations. Prices are reasonable. Amazing restaurant! Hospitality is outstanding, food is delicious. Ordered the chicken pad Thai and red curry. Both menu items were out of this world! Overall so pleased with our first dinner in Vancouver, hopefully coming back on our last night! Parking was a breeze as there was not many people downtown.

But this place, is just down right bad. The first warning was that it was lunch hour and nobody was eating here - all the other stalls had lineups. I ordered just about the most basic item on the menu for a Thai place - chicken pad thai. Noodles - overdone Sauce - bland, too sour, no depth of flavour. Tasted watery and nothing like actual pad thai. dish was SOUPY - its like these people have never had an actual pad thai before. Cooked in a wok, but may as well not have as there was zero char flavour in this like an actual pad thai should have. Why is half the dish shredded carrots? Barely any bean sprouts or egg. The chicken portion is tiny. No green onions. Served with a small wedge of lemon - should be lime I asked for extra spicy - tasted mild/medium at best. Literally they got nothing right for a classic quick Thai dish. Avoid at all costs. Your $16 is better spent virtually anywhere else. I suppose the lady who took my order was nice enough. But thats not enough to earn more than 1 star. Ambiance doesnt really count here since its just a food court and this business has nothing to do with the common seating area maintenance. I dont expect much from a food court stall. Certainly I dont expect the quality of a thai restaurant, or anything remotely close to the pad thai in Bangkok, even on the streets. But this is simply not pad thai.

The experience featured a solid selection of classic Thai dishes, though the service fell short of expectations. Appetizers Deep-Fried Calamari The calamari arrived warm with a crisp, golden exterior. While the texture was well-executed, the seasoning was somewhat underwhelming. The accompanying dipping sauce was decent but lacked depth, offering little to enhance the overall flavor. A more vibrant or spiced sauce could have elevated the dish. Rating: 7/10 Satay Chicken Skewers The chicken skewers were a standout. Tender and well-marinated, they were packed with flavor and complemented by a creamy, well-balanced peanut sauce. The slight char on the edges added a welcome smokiness. Rating: 8/10 Tom Kha Coconut Soup with Prawns This soup was a highlight of the meal. The rich coconut broth was fragrant, with notes of lemongrass and galangal creating a perfect balance of creaminess and spice. The prawns were plump and cooked just right, adding to the dish's overall appeal. Rating: 8/10 Main Course Panang Curry with Basa Fish Fillet & Prawn Stir-Fry The Panang curry was velvety and aromatic, coating the tender basa fish fillet in a rich, coconut-infused sauce. The prawn stir-fry, featuring crisp snow peas, bell peppers, onions, and chili, was well-prepared, with the prawns retaining their natural sweetness and firm texture. Paired with coconut jasmine rice, the flavors were cohesive and satisfying. Rating: 8/10 Dessert Deep-Fried Banana with Vanilla Ice Cream A warm, crispy banana enveloped in a light batter, paired with smooth vanilla ice cream. While enjoyable, the dessert lacked an element of contrast or excitement, making it pleasant but not particularly memorable. Rating: 7/10 Drinks Complimentary Cordoniu Cava Clasico Brut Sparkling Wine A thoughtful addition to the Valentine's special, the sparkling wine was refreshing and paired well with the meal, offering a light effervescence to cleanse the palate. Ambiance The restaurant is spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated, offering a comfortable setting for a casual meal or a special occasion. The warm lighting and traditional Thai accents contribute to a relaxed dining atmosphere. Rating: 8/10 Service Service was a weak point during this visit. While the staff was polite, attentiveness was lacking. Basic requests, such as water refills, were delayed, and no one checked in on our meal. A more proactive and engaged approach from the team would have significantly improved the experience. Rating: 5/10 Price The Valentine's Day set menu was well-priced, offering a good variety of dishes at a reasonable cost. Given the portion sizes and overall quality, it provided solid value. Verdict Thai House Restaurant delivers well-executed, flavorful dishes in a pleasant setting. While the food met expectations, the inconsistent service detracted from the overall experience. Despite this, I would return to explore more of their menu, hoping for a more refined service experience in the future.

I was also surprised to find pieces of whole fruit in the curry, something I haven't encountered in Thai curries before. The standout of the meal was definitely the Crying Tiger platter. We ordered it with both beef and pork jowl. While the beef was excellent, the pork jowl was especially memorable. Both meats had a wonderful charred, smoky flavor from the grill and were served alongside fresh vegetables and sticky rice, making for a satisfying and well-balanced dish. The prices were also extremely reasonable for the quality and portions. There are still so many dishes on the menu I'd love to try, and I'd happily return on a future visit to Vancouver.
