Stopped by this Thai spot in West Vancouver for lunch and tried a couple dishes from their lunch menu, which is very reasonably priced at $14 per dish. It's definitely a good option if you're looking for something quick and affordable in the area. The food itself was pretty average--nothing particularly memorable, but it did the job for a casual lunch. Flavours were decent, portions were fair for the price, and everything came out fairly quickly. Overall, it's a solid budget-friendly lunch option if you're in the neighbourhood and craving Thai, but not necessarily a place I'd go out of my way for. read more

Food had good flavour but all the seafood was soooo overcooked and just bad. We asked for Medium spice for all dishes they came out mild. This was disappointing. Service wasn't great either. Beef garlic fish was tasty but very small. All the portions were tiny apart from the curry. We actually really enjoyed the red curry with beef. Pad thai was good , but again, prawns were old , previously frozen and very dry and chewy. Drunken seafood was disgusting. Just a bag of frozen seafood that they overcooked. Brutal. read more

How have I not done a review of this place before? I came here for dinner during the summer last year and loved it. Surprised I didn't review it. Oh well. Found myself back here again for lunch this time. Ordered the Pad Thai lunch special, along with a glass of Thai iced tea and shared a Mango Sticky rice with my friend for dessert. Food was flavorful and my hubby said he could taste some "wok hei" in the pad thai noodles when I let him try my leftovers the next day. When I came here for dinner last time, I had ordered some kind of Vegetarian curry dish. That was very flavorful as well. There aren't many options for Thai food on the North Shore, so thank goodness this one is a good one! Definitely a refreshing change of pace too from any of the other Asian food options on the North Shore. There are a ton of Japanese restaurants on the North Shore. There are also multiple restaurants serving Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean fare. Japanese is the most abundant I'd say...but still multiple restaurants serving those other cuisines can be found. I think this Thai Pudpong Restaurant is the only good Thai restaurant on the North Shore now. At least...that I know of. If anyone knows of another good Thai restaurant on the North Shore, I'd be very happy to know of it. Wanna know my experience? Ok...here it goes... This was a take-out order. If I had picked up canned Pad Thai from the dollar store I would've had a more pleasant experience. The shrimp in the Pad Thai is frozen not fresh, the texture is old seafood, and it had a raunchy aftertaste lasting into even the day after. It was not de-tailed or de-veined. So, you have poop-tailed old shrimp....eat up! There was barely any bean sprouts or tofu (see pic.) That dish had a terrible aftertaste, and I stopped eating not to risk possible food poisoning. The Noodle Rama. The noodles were cold and old sticking together like noodles would be found at the end of a left-over barrel reserved especially for cattle. But, even they I think would refuse. The beef looked and tasted like they had been deep fried, boiled and burnt (see pic.) The sauce tasted like it would if you mixed mayonnaise and ketchup, and there was no seasoning whatsoever. On top it all....they forgot our chopsticks. I'm not going to sugarcoat this for you. This was the worst Pad Thai I've had. Ever. Pretty tasty Thai place in the Ambleside/John Lawson area. Parking is available on the side streets as well as in front. The inside is feels like someone's dingy living room. With the hot summer weather it really does feel like that part of the world. Staff were friendly. Looks like a mom and pop operation. Phad gra prow (beef) - not too dry. Served with chopped peppers, onions, beans, and basil. Green chicken curry - nice and creamy. Served with eggplant chunks. Overall a decent place worth checking out. read more

I am quite picky with my Thai food and it is always a challenge to get fairly authentic Thai dishes in metro vancouver. This place is a pleasant surprise and quite deserving of the stars given. It is run by Thai and while I can tell the spices and herbs are not at 100% for some dishes, they still are tasty. We requested medium spicy for all our dishes and only 1 was that. It did work out well as it balanced the rest of the dishes. We had green curry chicken and it was the only dish with heat to it. Deliciously creamy and went so well with rice. The seafood Tom kha tasted very mild and was a bit disappointing as I had better ones elsewhere. The saving grace was the fresh seafood. Scallop was so sweet. The mussel was plump. None of the seafood was over cooked or rubbery. Just wish the flavor was stronger and a bit more spicy. The beef pad gra pow was not really what I expected as I was used to the minced meat version and I preferred that version. It was not holy Thai basil so the taste very not very strong. It was also not spicy despite requesting medium spicy. The good thing was the beef. It was a good cut so you could taste the marbling and tenderness of the beef. It was not chunky and was thinly sliced making it a good good stir fry. The portion was decent and we had leftovers. This could probably feed 3 diners. Service was excellent with the staff coming by to top up our water glasses very frequently without being asked. They also checked on us and the food. First of all, whenever I go to a Thai restaurant here in the Lower Mainland, I have to say with the qualification that my mum is Thai from central Thailand, so I know what really good Thai food should taste like. Went for dinner last night with two friends. We ordered pat thai, green sweet curry with beef, basil chicken stir-fry, prawn tom kha soup, and spring rolls with a side order of rice, as it is not included. The ambience is nice although dated and reeks of the 1980s Thai restaurant craze. But the owners/server were very nice and friendly. The food is sort of more or less Thai food, but not quite genuine, maybe because it is cooked for the Western sense of taste. The spices were muted although the green curry and basil stir-fry were sufficiently tasty, but I expected proper spiceyness in the stir-fry as it is supposed to be hot. Rather it was simply slightly spicey although the umami flavour was sufficiently strong. The tom kha soup was ok and had a nice, creamy flavour, but the prawns had a texture like they had been frozen, thawed and refrozen and had a slightly fishy smell. The pat thai was strange in that it tasted of ketchup instead of sweet tamarind, which is the way it was supposed to be. The shrimp in it were very small. The only disappointment was the spring rolls, which were, greasy and had an old-oil kind of taste that maybe should have been changed a few days ago. All in all, it was a wee bit of a disappointment because the prices were a bit expensive given the food quality. Not sure I will be back although, to be honest, I do not often go to West Vancouver for dinner; this was more happenstance. read more

I have now moved from the city but I come here every time I return. There is simply no better Thai food elsewhere (except Thailand!). I love the spice of the Yum Nue salad. Spicy warm beef with crisp greens. Swimming Angel is a fav of mine. The peanut sauce and chicken version is so good. I love all the curries but my go to is the red curry with peanut sauce. I like the food here but my friends say they do not go because it looks dirty from the outside and a little warm inside and a messy hall way to the washroom. It could use a little refreshing or cleaning inside and outside. Would love it if in the warmer weather they could open the door and windows, there is a balcony area in the front which I would enjoy eating outside and probably attract more customers. I mostly use take out now but would like to eat inside because it does have a good authentic Thai atmosphere. The chicken with ginger didn't have enough ginger, though I was happy it came with rice as well as a good assortment of vegetables - cauliflower, broccoli, and bell pepper. Yes, I have a pad thai test, if a restaurant makes a pad thai and during my consumption takes me back to the my travel days in Thailand then they pass the pad thai test, simple non? And yep, Thai Pudpong passed the test, many Thai places, even much nicer ones in the city failed this test miserably. And so they get 4 stars. We didn't get to try many dishes and only managed to consume their spring rolls which was huge and my dining pal had their fried rice with beef and me the amazing pad thai. This is my first time but this place knew her cuz when she walked in, her entree was ready in seconds, then I was told that she's a regular but have NEVER told me about this joint. Humph! I am so jealous. So I so enjoyed my lunch today, it was excellent, portions were albeit small but the intricate taste more than made up for it. I cannot wait to return, may even try again next week. My family decided to stop in based on the yelp reviews, and especially with less folks dining out, wanted to support the local business. Service seated us immediately and was attentive. We ordered the spring rolls, panaeng curry and vegetable pad thai. The spring rolls came and were fresh and delicious. However, this unfortunately changed when the Pad Thai and Panang Curry came. It appeared and tasted frozen, and the food was lukewarm. When we brought this to our servers attention, they indicated it could be reheated. We asked for it to be made fresh. This brought the owner over, who indicated nobody had ever complained about his food before, that we had let it get cold at our table and said "we can remake it, but please don't complain again". Unfortunately, we started digging in the moment it arrived at our table....so not quite true. At this point, we immediately got concerned about what would happen in the kitchen, with the owner insinuating that we wanted to complain. We decided to leave, and will not return. My daughter and I chose this small locally owned Thai restaurant for a change and we were thrilled. We sat on the small covered patio, which was very charming. The food was excellent, I had cashew chicken and it was delicious. I also had Thai tea and it was a wonderful sweet surprise. The service was amazing. If you are looking for a small charming restaurant with great food and an excellent price point, this is the place for you. I will definitely be back and recommend it to my friends. read more

* Need Monti to order for me next time - if there is a next time! * Clearly I need Monti S. to do the ordering here, because I got stuck with a very Westernized version of pad gapao nua (beef with chili and holy basil). There wasn't a single chili pepper in the dish. There were bell peppers. And lots of them. There were a few pieces of regular basil - not holy unfortunately. Service was very friendly, and when the server asked what I wanted I ordered and requested, as Monti S. suggested, thai style hot. Guess I wasn't believable. The server did bring over some chili sauce (which my guess was diced bird peppers in fish sauce and a bit of sugar), which helped a bit. But it still needed more sour flavour to balance things out. I can understand why they prepare the food that way by default. Every other table that was there when asked how they wanted it said, "Mild." And I don't think any other customers were under the age of 60. Oh well...... read more

I ordered dinner from Thai Pudpong the other night - it was one of those days when everything was going wrong. The entire time I was on the phone ordering my dogs were going crazy, barking in the background. The gentleman on the other end of the line was very patient and helped me figure out what the hell I was trying to order. When I arrived to pick up our meal half an hour later, I was presented with two dog biscuits on a silver platter. That extra touch made me howl with laughter! Dishes were dirty and I was given about 75 cents worth of food for $13. The shrimp pad Thai dish I ordered had one shrimp only, and the rest was just cheap noodles. Small portion size. The "salad" was about 10cents of iceburg lettuce and that was it. I don't recommend this place. read more

I was skeptical on yet another Thai place "not another one" i internally sighed. It had been one dead end Thai after after another that I was beginning to think I would have to go down to California or across the pond to London to get good Thai outside of Thailand. By the way if in London, amazing Thai. Thai Pudpong opened about 2, maybe 3 years ago on Marine Dr in West Van. You would think with all the hoity toity-ness (very techincal term) we have across the bridge that locals would be spending money hand over fist, but the rich in west van did not get rich by being profligate. Cut to the chase, lots of businesses go under on Marine Drive here in West Van and Thai Pudpong is still standing. I have had my hits and misses the first couple of tries as they were finding their way. The chef is 150% Thai and I think the owners are a Thai lady and her British husband (I think). Tiny tiny place, no more than about 10 tables squished between a fruit stand and the fish place. But given the constraints in space it is rather cute with an itty bitty deck outside to watch the Range Rovers and BMW X5s go by. On the hit and miss, I find if you ask for the item "Thai style" (or speak Thai) your meal will come out all the more authentic. I am not a fan of Pad Thai (its not really a huge Thai dish to be honest) but they do a good job and I know this is the test for many people. Their yellow curry is my hands down favourite, with chicken and potatoes it is rish and hearty and full of flavour. Their Tom Yum Goong (soup) is perfect and large, I have had one for lunch in its entirety before. I had the lettuce wrap (which does not exist in Thailand, it's actually called Larb Gai) is a tick missing in the spice but refreshing. I don't recommend the stir fry (any of them) because they have been westernized, though I have gone in and asked for them Thai style without all the vegetable that are never in Thai stir fries and without the sterile white meat chicken (usually dark meat, ground, no carrots, no green peppers, no baby corn... I never see these things in Thailand!) Their sate is pretty good, as are their shrimp/fish cakes to start with. I don't know if I would cross the bridge for a meal but if in town and craving Thai, do go. I have lunch there at least once a week :) read more

It's hard to find a good Thai restaurant on the North Shore. In our attempts at finding one our first visit to this restaurant will unfortunately be our only visit. The kitchen looks dirty as is the condition of the rest of the old dining room. But we go out for Thai for the food not the decor right? Sadly the food was also a big miss. Appy's (Spring rolls, Crab & Prawn rolls) were unnecessarily greasy. The former were just filled with cabbage, carrots and vermicelli. The latter had cream cheese, eww, stuffed with the prawn done up like a spring roll. Soup order (Tom Kah) was barely enough for 3 people but filled with prawns. Mains (Green Curry, Swimming Angel, Signature Fried Rice and Pad Thai) lacked the hits of exotic spiciness we look for in Thai cuisine. Their "Signature" rice came with two prawns and the Pad Thai came with three... maybe they ran out when they made the soup? Skimpy portions led us to about $120 for the meal which means we would have saved money driving the distance to go downtown for our usual Thai resto instead. read more

I think this restaurant has recently changed ownership, as the food is no where as good as I remember it. The Tom Yum, which I used to absolutely love at this restaurant and always ordered for take-out when I'm sick was dismal. It was edible and that's about the nicest thing I can say about it. With a price tag of $14.50 for a single serving (with prawns) it was such a disappointment. I definitely will not be going back to this place. The food had absolutely NO flavor! We have done take out from there many times before and I hate to say it was our last. Every dish tasted like they had thrown the chicken into sauce right before it was picked up. The stuffed chicken wings were beyond soggy.
