We have been coming to this KOA quite a few times every time we head up north when we travel. We enjoy staying here! The people have been great, friendly and helpful. This place is clean and great spaces. I have a a 33 foot mobile home and also have brought my truck and trailer (altogether approximately 50 feet). And have never had a problem. I would recommend it.

    Tent site T-3.

When we booked this place in March 2023, it was still a KOA. It became not a KOA a couple of months later, and we got a scary email saying KOA couldn't guarantee our reservation. But KOA gave us the number of the new owner who graciously confirmed that our reservation was still on. It now seems to be going by the name "Mount St. Helens RV Park." We're staying here for the first time, and from the bad reviews, we weren't optimistic, but we booked anyway because we just wanted a place not too far off I-5 to crash for 2 nights on our way up and back from Olympic NP. It turned out to be nice. We can understand the negative reviews about the RV sites; they are very tight, and there is mostly no shade. The tent sites where we stayed are also very close together, but when we were here there weren't many other tent campers so it wasn't a problem. The owner was even kind enough to let us switch sites to be farther away from our neighbors (they were planning to have a fire, and wood smoke is bad for my health). For what we needed, it seems just fine. It's mostly quiet, with noticeable road noise, but we knew it was near I-5, so we can't complain on that front. It got quiet at night. The staff were courteous and had our reservation ready when we arrived. The bathrooms are clean with nice showers. The grounds are clean and orderly. The long-termers seem to keep their sites nice looking, which we haven't always seen at other comparable RV parks. The tiered layout of the park is smart... you don't have other RVs blocking your view. The laundry facilities looked fine, though we're not using it. There seem to be fun play areas for kids. The other campers we've met seemed friendly and courteous, but we're pretty quiet, inoffensive people, so factor that into your compatibility equation. I'd stay here again if we were passing through

The accommodations were 4 stars. Not the newest accommodations, but very clean. Someone takes pride in their work. The camp was quiet with an amazing sunset view. Kid and pet friendly. They had two jump houses for the kids when we were there. The laundry room stays open 24 hours. The 5th star is from their customer service. We were up in the area at a time when all the KOAs were sold out in Washington and Oregon. We called and this place was sold out as well. It was getting late so they said they would find a spot in a gravel area just so we could get off the road. We agreed. A short time later they called back and said they had received a cancelation. And instead of selling it to the next person who called, they moved us in to the camping spot. They could have just sold it to the next caller and kept us in the overflow spot. We would have never known. That was a nice surprise. I'd stay here again most definitely.

View was only real reason for a 2 Star.

We are a younger upper middle class family of 4 who travel for pleasure. We are in about year 3 of camping. Ranking the KOA Mt. St. Helens/Castle Rock. Full time residents on grounds (not workers, just people in trailers with all their crap strewn about and multiple junky cars). This alone rates this below 3. I expect a KOA to be for travelers, not for people to live at? VERY noisy next to a small highway. Park not staffed from 7pm to 9am which I am certain invites some undesirables. Very tight spaces (about 5' to next trailers pop out. My young girls rated the play area a 1/5 because it was small and not well kept. The only reason this KOA got 2 stars from me is that my site had a nice view and the ground were clean of rubbish. Did not use facilities so I cannot rate those.

Hi im the owner here id like to explain. My park is terraced A,B,C and D raise above so high in fact you look over the trailer behind you as not to infringe on the view. That being said your driving a vehicle 20 tons or better a toddler can move fast run out, a bike on these hills can go so fast I get worried. I tried no bikes people got mad so I allowed them. So I posted everywhere 5 mile please. So when i have to chase you through the park (i have a golf cart that goes pretty good) and a rader gun clocking you well over the limit i get angry specially when you try to tell me im over reacting. You hit that child there dead you won't have a great summer neither will there family. I understand 5 miles is a crawl but if that baby runs out they have a better chance of survival. My kids are my priority not how fast you can get to your site. My park isn't that big you'll get there. Please 5 miles here our kids and they're safety is my job.

Nice, grassy spots. Clean and tidy. Playground for the kids and a big, fenced play area for dogs. I would definitely stay again.

I will give this KOA a four star rating because it was clean, the bathrooms were orderly and worked well, overall a good deal if you are venturing up to Mt.

Merrill Lake Campground is a pretty awesome spot. Awesome enough that I honestly hemmed and hawed…read moreover whether to even add it to Yelp. Although my better Yelp humanitarian judgment has won out here, I still hope you read this, enjoy it, and camp somewhere else. Why? This little campground only has about 9 sites. It's free but you need a discovery pass. There is a camp host and there are surprisingly clean pit toilets on-site, but no potable water. The sites fill up fast in the summer time, but have a 3-day limit that's enforced by the friendly but vigilant camp host. I don't want it to fill up even faster now that I'm sharing this, since I do plan to hit this spot at least one more time before summer is over. There are no reservations (first-come, first-served) and the campsites are designed to work for larger groups - some of them could easily fit 7-10 tents. Each site is spaced decently well away from the others, and offers a picnic table, fire ring and places to pitch. The sites don't really offer views of the lake, they're set back in the trees, but there's plenty of shade Not too dusty, but some sites are heavy with gravel. While it's car camping, you don't drive right in to your site but park in a common lot, then walk in (the farthest you'll have to walk is about 50 yards). So no car noise up close to your site. This little campground sits just by Merrill Lake, a nice smaller lake that does not (thankfully) allow motorized boats and fishing is restricted to fly only, catch + release. For these reasons the water is calmer, cleaner, and dotted with fly fishermen and specific times of the day. At the mid-July mark the lake was warm and clear... perfect for swimming and canoeing. There are some excellent trout holes around the edges of the lake, however I'm not a fly fisherman and don't believe in torturing anything I'm not able to then eat (so catch + release is not for me). However I can see how this would be an attractive spot for a fly fisherman. This campsite is a great place to get away from PDX. Only about 1h 35m in no traffic, and the drive (especially if you come up the 503) is a nice one. Very pastoral, windy road. Get out of your house this summer and sleep under the stars. Just do it at some other campsite since this one is mine.

Plus, the lakes in California don't even amount to the lakes in Washington/Oregon. My parents went to Merrill Lake Campground on Thursday to secure us a spot which was first come first serve. They managed to get a campsite (#4) that had a direct path to the lake (not the day use where most of the guests would walk to)! It was really big, the only downside was the hill which isn't ideal with little kiddos. Also, that we couldn't have a campfire due to Washington's high alert for fires. It just wasn't the same. You do need a discovery pass which we got at a store that was twelve minutes from the campsite- Lakeside Deli. It was $11 for a day use. The scenery was amazing. It wasn't hot at all where the campsite was. It was surrounded by trees. The water was so clear and clean. The weather was perfect once we made it out of the campsite, through the trail, and to shore. Oh god, and the drive. The drive up the mountain was the scariest I've ever seen. It was beautiful, but so scary. It was a great stay (for free at that!). I recommend this lake!

POOL CLOSED DESPITE BEING ADVERTISED AND PROMISED OPEN…read more MULTIPLE LONG-TERM RESIDENTS REPORTED BROWN WATER AND USE ADDITIONAL FILTRATION SYSTEMS NO REFUND OR COMPENSATION OFFERED WHEN THE RESORT'S MAIN ADVERTISED AMENITY WAS UNAVAILABLE We recently stayed at Toutle River RV Resort and were extremely disappointed. The primary reason we booked this resort more than four weeks in advance was because we were repeatedly told that the heated swimming pool would be open and operational by the time of our stay. We have two granddaughters, ages 5 and 8, who had recently completed swim lessons, and the pool was the main attraction that led us to choose this resort. Before arriving, we were assured multiple times that the pool would be ready. The day before our arrival, we were told they were simply waiting for a heater installation and that the pool would be open when we got there. Upon arrival, the pool was still closed. After speaking with staff and several long-term residents, we learned that the pool had reportedly been unavailable for a significant period of time. Numerous guests were arriving expecting to use the pool and expressing frustration when they discovered it was closed. When I requested a refund or compensation because the primary amenity that influenced our booking was unavailable, none was offered. Another concern was the water quality throughout the resort. Several long-term residents told us they have installed multiple filtration systems because the water frequently appears brown. We personally observed discoloration when the water was placed in a white container. My husband drank the water and later became ill with stomach issues. While I cannot state with certainty that the water caused his illness, the condition of the water was concerning enough that we immediately stopped using it for drinking. As an alternative to the closed pool, we were directed to the river approximately one-third of a mile away. While the river itself was beautiful, it was not what we paid for when choosing a resort that prominently advertises a heated swimming pool. The most disappointing part is that this property has incredible potential. The setting is beautiful, the grounds are attractive, and the location is excellent. Unfortunately, management appears unable or unwilling to properly maintain the amenities that are heavily used in their advertising. Guests deserve accurate information before booking. If the pool is not operational, that should be clearly disclosed before payment is accepted. Had we known the pool would not be available, we would have booked elsewhere. Because of the misleading information regarding the pool, the concerns regarding water quality, and the complete lack of compensation when a major advertised amenity was unavailable, we would not return and cannot recommend this resort. UPDATE: During our stay, one staff member became emotional while discussing the volume of complaints regarding the pool situation and stated they had submitted their notice and were leaving. It was clear that many guests were upset about the same issue. That alone should tell management that this problem needs immediate attention.

On a sunny day, in any month, the view is just spectacular. You can see both Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens from the beach area. You do you and everyone else will do themselves. It all works. As you drive down NW Raider, you will pass the Island Cove Market. if you haven't bought a permit to park, stop here to get one. It's $7 a day or $30 for an annual pass, well worth it. Don't neglect to buy the permit, they patrol frequently and will fine or tow!!! After the Island Cove Market you will pass a beach - you will know based on the cars all parked on the left and a hill to the right with several stairs and handrails taking you over the small hill to beach. Keep driving. When you hit the gravel road, you are in Clothing Optional Beach territory. Anywhere along this several mile stretch, park your car to the left and walk through the various marked paths to the right. When you walk through the clearing, you will be delighted by the sight of a decent sized white sandy beach, the river sprawled out in front of you with views across the water to the grass and trees. Plus Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood standing proud. It's stunning! And so peaceful. There are no bathroom facilities. This is Sauvie Island and it's not built up or commercialized. That's part of the charm and why it remains so pristine. There are porta potties located every 40 feet or so along the parking area. As well as garbage bins. Do take all your trash with you, don't leave it on the beach. This beach is great for long walks, sunbathing, picnics, floating or swimming in the water. In the summer, the water is actually pretty warm. And few waves other than when a large barge goes by and creates some waves.
