I came here after my 22nd birthday dinner since it's right across the street from my campus apartment. It's in the middle of summer so it wasn't as crowded as it usually would be during the school year. The bouncer scanned my ID and told me "happy birthday" which was so nice (I love birthday wishes so )! I ordered my regular green tea shot and the server let me know that since it was my birthday, I get a free shot...sign me up! Although it was just vodka and pineapple juice, I was extremely grateful. The only reason it doesn't recieve all five start was because the walls were open and it make the air hot, thick, and sweaty, not the vibe for my birthday fit. I went to Looneys for trivia after a long day and weekend. It was a lot of fun. The questions weren't too bad. Like definitely questions we could answer, the recall is the hardest part ESPECIALLY after having an orange crush. There was about 15 teams that participated and you have to get there early. We ordered a bunch of apps and entrees. I enjoyed my buffalo chicken dip and the fries are gas. It was so good. But I wasn't a fan of my jerk chicken tenders. I ordered an orange crush which was also really good. Service was cool. The girl check on our table constantly to make sure we were good. For parking to save our coins and time, we parked on UMDs campus and walked along the trail to the pub which only took 7-10 mins and UMD parking is free after 4pm. Zero complaints about Looney's. It's definitely another place that usually has a wait, but they tend to seat people pretty quickly. The service has always been great, and the food is solid. You really can't go wrong with wings and beer. They've got plenty of other options on the menu, but the wings are what I go for every time. It's also a great place to watch a game. It is a very chill atmosphere. Being so close to the University of Maryland is a plus too, especially since most spots near campuses keep their prices reasonable. Give Looney's a shot! I love it here, especially for happy hour. They have amazing wings, 12 for $12!! They are absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection each and every time. Their orange crush is also really good, and gets the job done. The mozzarella moons are also a favorite, providing a nice and juicy cheese pull. My friend had a birthday party here on Saturday, January 11 in the afternoon. I had never been to Looney's, but was familiar with it as I used to drive for Uber/Lyft and had some drop-offs/pickups here. I thought of this place as simply some rowdy college bar literally a close walk from the UMD campus. I also knew there was another location in Maple Lawn in southern Howard County; that location is roughly half the distance from my home as the College Park one. I also see there's 2 other locations northeast of Baltimore in Nottingham & Bel Air area. My girlfriend & I had gotten here about an hour early as we were already out, hungry, wanted to eat earlier plus we could more focus on birthday party conversations rather than trying to order and focusing on eating. When we walked in, I was pleasantly surprised that this was nice place with wood panel, high ceiling, ample seating, a nice bar area, good decorations like UMD, Maryland flag, etc., and plenty of TV's for sports viewing. We sat at a high-top table. The server was nice. I said we were just splitting on appetizer and asked her recommendations, which she said several things, which server & I surmised crab in general. My g/f had been to Looney's a couple of times before, so she kind had some idea. We settled on the Chesapeake Fries, which were crab & cheese on top of fries, which came out pretty quickly. They were delicious, plenty of crab & cheese on the fries and an ample amount of food for the 2 of us to split. As for the birthday party, our server came around earlier on and switched to the evening shift server, which seemed to do a good job taking people's orders who got food &/or drink as well as water pitcher for tables. I occasionally glanced up at TV for the Texans-Chargers game, but I was mainly focused on conversating with people (a couple of which had been 9 months since I had seen). Also, this restaurant/bar wasn't too noisy, so it was easy to hear people. Restrooms were clean too. Overall, Looney's was solid, and I would return to this or Maple Lawn location. read more

Looney's is a College Park staple for the area. I have gone ever since I was in college... but now it's mainly homecoming or a spontaneous decision. Their happy hour features beers, rails, orange crushes (which are admittedly too sweet for me now), and various food items. I appreciate how an Irish pub adds some jerk items on their menu -- it's nothing close to the quality of jerk you get at authentic Caribbean restaurants, but I respect it because it doesn't taste bad at all. Another reason I don't go here as much is because the college kids roll in deep -- it's on the base of The View, so you see a lot of them even in the summertime. So I have to roll with my own crew haha, but it's fine regardless. I can count the times I have gone the place is quiet... there are always a lot of people there! The perk is that there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, so the crowds are manageable. With events like trivia and karaoke, you can't blame them for being busy! Some of my favorite food items are the honey old bay wings, the chicken cheesesteak, and sweet potato fries -- yum! If you've never been, I recommend swinging by! read more

This is a "I should've eaten MORE before I came" review for the most part so here we go ... my counterpart wanted to watch his favorite team play so we came here. Here is my order and ratings for each: 1.Murphy McGee - 4 stars; FLAVORFUL! 2.Honey Old Bay - 1 star; Lacked old bay seasoning and the honey was at the bottom of the tray 3.Jerk - 1 star; didn't give me jerk flavor AT ALL! My rating for 3 stars is for the Murphy McGee wings alone! My counterpart and I looked at each other and said "we were better off not ordering anything at all" and I strongly agreed. I mean it's wings and the flavor component lacked ... that's crazy! Oh and the french fries ... horrible and I'm a french fry lover! Otherwise, the drinks and atmosphere was on point. I wish my server would have notified us at the beginning of service that if you pay by cash gratuity WILL NOT BE INCLUDED but if you pay with a card, gratuity is AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDED. Where is the signage? Not to mention Yelp offers 10% off for checking in on the app and my server and manager knew nothing about it. What a shame. Looney's is a classic Irish Pub themed bar and grille in the College Park area - a very popular watering hole for students, grads, and locals. The spot is decked out in Terp gear (rightfully so) on the inside and has a great buzz about it; there a long bar section that likely seats between 20-30 guests as well as several high top tables scattered throughout the bar. There is more than enough indoor seating, even for the large crowds that they receive. During the warmer months, they also open up their partially covered patio - this is one of my favorite places to sit when I visit. Looney's has a great happy hour (Monday - Friday 4-7p), especially for those looking for a good time on a budget: various beer and wine selections for $5 , rail liquors for $3.50, and discounted crush buckets. Various appetizers like potato skins, nachos, and wings for discounted prices as well. Their dozen wings for $10 special is an absolute steal - added bonus that the wings are good sized and wonderfully crispy. I recommend the old bay or honey old bay wings! If you're looking for a casual spot to enjoy a game, a drink, or just a good time with friends then I think Looney's is a good spot for you. During the school year, it can be pretty crowded with college students, so if that's not your scene try visiting during the summer or winter. Pro tip: Parking in this area is really rough (Looney's sits in the middle of an apartment and commercial shopping block). If you can't find parking in the paid lot next to the building, try parking in Lot XX on UMD's campus. This lot offers free parking on most evenings and weekends and is a short walk across a footbridge from Looneys. read more

We went to Looney's for the third time today. Strictly out of convenience because of the proximity to his apartment. We arrived a half hour early because we know their service is usually slow. Ordered our food and it took the usual over an hour for a French dip, Caesar salad, and crab nachos to come out. After almost everyone's food was just about gone, my chicken cheesesteak finally came out. I don't get what rages do long to make frozen food. And as usual, someone ends up with their stomach hurting afterwards. If you don't have at least 2 hours to spare and just want mediocre bar food, have at it. The server apologized several times as did the guy who brought it out. If it was busy, I could understand that, but it wasn't the case. read more

I was staying at THE HOTEL at UMD and stumbled across Looneys Pub when we were walking the campus for some food spots. Expected this to be a small bar but it is much bigger inside and lots of room at the bar area to sit and order food. I ordered the OC bucket and it is quite good and deadly my partner ordered Guinness which was actually pretty creamy compared to other bars. For food we got the hot buffalo wings and chicken tenders with fries. Overall very good bar in the area if you're looking for a quick bite and want to hang around locals and college kids since it's a sports bar. I rarely go out, but was convinced by my friends for NYE to go out for once. Asked the wristband guy if I could step outside for some air briefly, was told that's fine as long as I have my wristband (which I paid $20 for). As I came back in, ID guy grabbed me, yanked me backwards and pushed my friend against the door. I stepped back in shock because that's never happened to me before and I didn't want hold up the line he abandoned to assault me and my friend. We both had already waited through the long line and paid for our wristbands over an hour before. Even the security guard came out and said we're good. Wristbands guy took the fault but the ID guy was definitely more at fault. Came for the first time on NYE and will never come back. read more

We are visiting for a field hockey tournament and Looneys came up as a suggestion to visit. The pub was in a convenient location and it had an outdoor patio which was perfect for our fall day. Food was decent, although we were upcharged for fries we did not order. The service was wonderfully friendly and the crowd was having a good time watching football. I used to come here during college and whenever I am back in College Park we make it a point to stop here. Excellent crab dip!! Highly recommend the crab pretzel, chicken Chesapeake sandwich and the crabby melt. The fries are perfectly crispy too. A little pricier than standard bar food, but the quality is higher in my opinion. Drinks are okay but nothing special. The reason for only 4/5 stars is sometimes service can be disorganized and slow. Our drinks were never refilled and the salad I ordered as an appetizer came out with the main entrees. We were sat immediately upon entering the restaurant so no issues there, but the wait time on our food was unpleasant. This location is definitely not family oriented which we were not aware of. The location near our house has a better layout, the bar and dining room are separated by a wall. The College Park location is just a full out bar across the entire restaurant. Seating was extremely uncomfortable due to the high chairs/bar stools and high tables. Music was extremely loud and our table had trouble hearing each other. Place was fairly clean which was nice. The Greek Salad I ordered was decent. I paid an additional $6 for chicken, but I wish I hadn't done so. The breast was very small and not worth the additional cost. With a score of 16.5 out of 25 stars, I give this location a D rating, but that will not stop me from going to the location near my house which is a much better experience. read more

Review from 2017. Classic college American pub. It is located at the base of the Varsity apartments. It can get really busy in the evenings. When I went with a group of 4 friends it was semi-busy. They have a good number of tables indoors and of course the bar area. There are a few TVs scattered throughout indoors if you wanted to eat/drink and catch a game. They have certain deals/discounts during UMD away games. But I have not come during those times to speak on that. Anywho when we came we got a table outdoors. Waitress took care of us ok. She came to check on us sporadically but we had to flag her down to get the check. Food came out relatively quickly. They specials on certain days for students and the special when we came on a Thursday was a philly cheesesteak and fries for just around $6 I believe. Taste-wise it is nothing special for it is a good value for the price in my opinion. Also got a beer since it was still kind of early in the day. But we did come during happy hour and the waitress didn't give me the happy hour discount. Didn't find out until later when I took a closer look at the receipt. But oh well, didn't think it was worth the hassle to ask for a refund. But just be sure to check your receipt amounts before you leave. read more

Stopped here after a UMD WBB game on an NFL Sunday expecting it to be very crowded. There were several tables and I wouldn't say it was dead but I was told usually you can't move there- so that was good. Ordered a diet and the table shared a crab pretzel. We shared mozzarella moons - deep fried cheese sticks in half circle form. The crab pretzel was very BIG and really good - plenty of crab dip on top and melted cheese - I would recommend this as a MUST HAVE item if you stop here. The mozzarella moons were also good - decent breading on them and very good. For my entree I ordered the Looney's chicken sandwich - which is a grilled chicken breast with choice of wing sauce. Came with fries. Fries were good. I ordered the honey old bay sauce which was good in its own right - HOWEVER - the chicken itself was pretty much inedible. Dry and hard - way overcooked and crunchy along with being dry this was really bad. I tried using the extra sauce and ranch (menu called for bleu cheese) but this was rough. It seemed like our waitress was running wind sprints between tables in a large area of about 20 tables - so the service was ok but understandable. We came to Looney's while at College Park for a soccer tournament. Looney's sits right off of campus on the main road through College Park. The bar area is really nice and spacious, with lots of different sized TV's to catch a game. We had pork nachos to start. My wife had a shrimp fajita wrap, I had the rockfish tacos, my son had buffalo wings, and the other two members of our group had chicken quesadillas. Beware!!!! We attempted to visit Looneys Pub in College Park. We were willing to pay for parking (I know - crazy!) so I scanned the QR code on the parking sign. Entered my cc info and while waiting for it to process was called by my bank regarding suspected fraud on my cc. It was for a Samsung purchase overseas. First time I have been to this one in college park. We were seated fast, and the order was taken. Fast food came out in a timely manner. My burger was good. I only ate half, so it was definitely full filling. The place was nice and friendly, it was cold they had all the ceiling fans on so or made my food fold fast didn't like that.
