My sister is a regular at Looney's Pub, but I usually only make it out once a year--and that's for the Eagles vs. Commanders game! It's become our little tradition, and we always have a good time. Typically, this place is PACKED for the game, and over the years I've had mixed experiences with the service. Sometimes things move along pretty smoothly, and other times it can be a little chaotic--long waits for food, mix-ups with orders, having to ask for things more than once, etc. But yesterday was different, and I have to give them credit where credit is due! I arrived around 4 p.m., right around the end of one server's shift, and we ended up getting a new server named Maria. She was GREAT. She was friendly, attentive, and on top of everything. Our food came out quickly, our requests were handled promptly, and when I asked for the check, it came right out. We never had to sit around wondering where our food or server was. Everything was orderly and efficient, which was a major improvement from some of my previous experiences. And of course...the EAGLES WON! So that definitely helped make it a good day! I do have a couple of things I think Looney's could improve. First, the TVs. I understand that there are multiple football games happening, but considering we're in the DMV and this is a Commanders/Eagles matchup, I would expect the game to be on the majority of the screens. That wasn't really the case. There was also tennis on at one point, which my mom was enjoying, but it was switched off before the match was even finished. I think they could do a better job of balancing what games are being shown, especially during major matchups. I was also a little confused by the ID/stamping situation. When I first arrived, I wasn't asked for my ID; I was simply given a stamp. I'm not sure what the stamp was for or whether I was supposed to receive one, so I was a little unclear about the purpose. I don't mind following the rules at all--I just wasn't sure what the process was supposed to be. And the bathrooms could definitely use a little more attention in the cleanliness department. Overall, though, we had a good experience this time around. The atmosphere was fun, the crowd wasn't nearly as overwhelming as it has been in previous years, and most importantly, Maria was on it! The food and service are a huge part of the experience at a sports bar, and yesterday was definitely a step up from some of the experiences I've had in the past. We'll be back next year for our annual Eagles/Commanders tradition. Hopefully the Eagles will be bringing another W with them! read more

Representing 2025 in alphabet series, for letter L, runner-up to out of town pick (barely out of town in Queen Anne's County). Queen Anne's is only one county away from where I live, Anne Arundel, but the Eastern shore feels like a whole other world. L is for Looneys Pub in Maple Lawn: Looney's Pub has been a staple around UMD campus for many years. I went to college at Arizona State University; so I had never experienced Looney's until January 2025 when I went to the College Park location for a friend's birthday party, which my girlfriend & I enjoyed. My g/f is a lifelong Marylander and had been Looney's before at least, both of our most local location in Maple Lawn. In September 2025, my g/f & I visited the Maple Lawn as they were having a Ravens kickoff pep rally. They had some music, cheerleaders, etc. They were busy, but once we got seated, service was decent. We pigged out on their delicious crab cheese fries, which we remembered we enjoyed at our friend's birthday party. Overall, Looney's is a good option over here. read more

Excellent service, delicious food, and incredibly fun trivia! We are excited to become regular trivia goers and join the next season that starts on 6/23. Our table got a grilled cheese, garden salad with grilled chicken, and a mound of fries. The grilled cheese was Looney's style, which is their way of saying a classic grilled cheese but with bread that's the thickness of Texas toast and it's super cheesy! The grilled cheese also comes with fries, which are good - not the best fries I've ever had but perfect for what I was craving. The grilled chicken was an extra cost, but the salads are fairly customizable. My friend asked for no mushrooms and no dressing and they were happy to accommodate. If you don't like a loud atmosphere obviously as a sports bar this place isn't for you, but it never felt overwhelming and we could clearly hear the trivia results (half of the TVs and a projector state the question). Pro tip: sit close to the table because you have 90 seconds to answer and submit after each question. The crushes here are also extremely tasty - highly recommend! read more

I like that there's crab cakes, crab soup, crab dip, etc. I literally ordered crab something almost everywhere we went. I do love it so. Drinks were a plenty as well. We kept a good rhythm and our server dropped by at the right times for refills. I also tried a crush for the first time. Kinda like a screwdriver, but weaker than I like. Visited a specialty store in Fulton and decided to stop into Looney's for lunch after! It's got a sports bar feel and there were ppl there watching soccer. The music in the background was top tier. We got fully loaded nachos plus crab dip and it did NOT disappoint, two different flavors of wings and the reuben egg rolls. Taco Tuesday turned all the way up! The tacos were loaded with flavor--fresh toppings, juicy filling, and just the right amount of crunch. The pickled onions added a nice tang, and the creamy sauces on the side brought it all together. My original review started with: "What do you do when the menu is full of everything amazing you want to eat? Become a regular at Looney's..." and become regulars we have. That statement still holds strong! Everything on this visit was top-notch, generous portions, bold flavors, and consistently great service. We came on Kids Eat Free night, which was a hit. Kiddo one devoured her ultra-cheesy mac & cheese. She was so happy with the gooey cheddar that she insisted on saving a bite to "show my friends at school lunch tomorrow." That's a review in itself! Kiddo two got the cheeseburger sliders: cute little duo portions that made sharing easy and kid-friendly. I like that they offer applesauce switch, but Looney's fries are the best ever so everyone got their own! The seafood quesadilla was loaded with large chunks of crabmeat and shrimp, perfectly melted into creamy cheese. The salsa had just the right amount of zing, and the pickled jalapeños added the perfect tangy heat. I tried the Crabby Smash (formerly Crabby Patty). It's now two thin burgers smashed together and cooked well-done -- I usually prefer medium rare, but with the smashburger style, it still hit the spot. That said, it could've used a bit more crabmeat this time around; it was definitely skimpier compared to past visits. We stuck with our go-to happy hour IPAs (great selection as always). And to wrap things up, the kiddos were thrilled to find they now have more than just vanilla ice cream on the menu. Watching them dig into Cookie Monster ice cream with pure joy? I been coming to looneys pub for years. One of my husband's favorite place to go. Today he couldn't come in because I could push his wheelchair to the front of the building. The back entrance was closed. The back entrance is where the handicap parking is and to expect somebody to go around the building when they are handicap is outrageous. read more

Service here used to be good and I don't know what's happened but it's inexcusably awful now. I ordered a drink that never came and nobody bothered to acknowledge me for another 20 minutes afterward so I just left. People on either side of me got multiple orders in in the meantime. Couldn't flag anyone down either because nobody would even look my way, even with multiple bartenders behind the small bar. I understand that Friday happy hour is a busy time but there's a limit to what's acceptable. I have been coming here regularly for years and you have permanently lost my business. read more

WATERED DOWN DRINKS! While I frequent this place during football season and other occasions like Halloween & St Pats Day), tonight was an interesting level of service than other times. No time has ever been spectacular but it's a sports bar so I rarely expect much any how. TONIGHT WAS DIFFERENT from other nights because shots and neat drinks were ordered from their specials. They falsely advertisemented specials what was on on the table (I gave them stars because the manager honored what the had on the table after I challenged being told the specials on the table were not being honored because it is Thursday night football). Being told the specials would not be honored even though on the table was called crazy to me. Then we were told only the beer would not made it even crazier. So why have a special menu on the table?! Anyhow, my husband ordered vodka with a splash of ginger aleand the ginger ale was flat. I told the bartender and he asked her to bring him a vodka straight up and it came back WATERED down. I asked my husbandband to send it back AGAIN but he didn't want to cause a stir but I will! This place already had 3 stars but I never cared because this place usually is definitely worth the vibe for sports. Now, I am questioning their value if they are deliberately watering down drinks. And don't f*ck with ppl who hates to indulge in shots because we know when drinks are watered down if we taste it. It was definitely watered down!! Came here during lunch time. There's parking in the back, front, and street parking. I ordered the Mac smash burger and some soup. Both tasted great for the value and the service was on spot. The waiter knew what was good on the menu and what would be filling or just a snack. I didn't think this place would be that big, but it is definitely a very big bar. Got takeout from Looney's last night. First, it took twice as long to be ready as the online estimate, so my husband had to sit around for 20 minutes. Not a huge deal, but my dish was literally inedible. I got the shrimp boil. The potatoes were not cooked... they were hard and crunchy (and they were russets, FWIW... not baby red or Yukon gold). The shrimp itself was not fully cooked... it was slimy and still grey in parts. The corn was somehow overcooked and water logged. I threw away the corn, and then had to cook the rest on the stove at home before I could eat it. Why even get takeout, at that point? My husband also ordered the maple lawn cheesesteak, which is described on the online menu as "Shaved ribeye or chicken, hot pepper relish, pepper jack cheese, and roasted red peppers." What he received was an entirely different sandwich, with just marinara and mozzarella... presumably the "Bel Air" cheesesteak. (And on the takeout site, the Maple Lawn cheesesteak has the same description as the Perry Style -- "sautéed onions, BBQ, bacon bits, and cheddar cheese.") Suffice it to say, their system is a mess and the food really sucks. read more

We had a little happy hour here( my bff and i) this pub is right next to Lib's grill which is one of my frequented happy hour places. Pros: Huge place. Can accommodate a lot of people. Happy hour prices for food is $8.99 you have to check the time but we were there around 5:45 pn. So I guess until 6 or 7 pm but please check with the waitress to make sure. You can get a nice burger on mondays for $8.99 Happy hour prices for drinks are all day long. Food: pretty good. Huge servings. Crab dip and crab nachos are kinda the same. Drinks are good. I went here for a late night drink and i loved their Dole whip and Pina colada. Cons: it might take a while for the waitress to get to you so be patient they will get to you. They all have their own table to serve. Whoever helped you at the beginning will help you till the end. Overall; pretty good they also have Live bands on Weekends. read more

I came here for a solo happy hour. The ambience was nice as it was nothing special, simple bar vibes. There is outdoor and indoor seating. They have a ton a menu options. If you're from Maryland, there are a bunch of crab and seafood options and if you're from out of town you should try them. The service was a bit slow at first, but then it picked up. I've been coming to Looneys in Maple Lawn for years and the ambiance and environment never fails to impress. The TVs always have a great game one, drinks are refreshing and it's a good chill vibe. Plenty of space all around. This place has your basic bar food. Wings are nice & crispy with sauce (I LOVE THE RANCH!) and the hot crab drip is a wonderful app to share. I tried the Perry hall style chicken cheesesteak which was good change up from my usual. It was big and a little messy but had a good sweet BBQ sauce on it. The only thing that can sometimes bring down the value of the experience can be their service. Drinks take some time to be made and some of the younger servers are quite forgetful. One time on a Tuesday an hour before trivia started it took our server 20 minutes to great us and 15 minutes to get our beverages (ice tea, water and lemonade). I'm going to chalk it up to her being new to the job but still, it was rough. However, the more experienced and older servers are pretty great. The familiar faces within the staff is really nice to see when I come, which I think helps increase the credibility of the experience here for the locals in the county. read more

I can't believe I never reviewed this place. I've literally been coming here for years! This was a regular happy hour meet up spot for one of my college girlfriends and I back in the day. We always a good time!  I'm not sure how they're currently operating now during Covid-19. My last time here was months ago right before everything shut down. I was legit making plans to come back for St. Paddy's Day.  They might have still been open then, l but I was already quarantining and social distancing! I came with a friend for food and drinks on a Friday night and apparently after a certain time they start charging a cover. Neither of us had cash so he left to go find an ATM. It was still winter and since it was freezing cold, I waited inside for him to come back. While waiting I noticed the bouncer let several people without paying a cover. I guess they're regulars! My friend returned with cash and we got seated right away. Our server was friendly and we had no  issues with her.  She checked in on us often, but wasn't overbearing! She told us there would be live music that night. That's cool I guess and that's probably the reason for a cover charge... think it was $5. We just wanted to eat and drink and be out. So it was annoying having to pay a cover just to do that. We could have left but we didn't. Oh well! I didn't find the drinks here strong at all. My tolerance is high sure, but even my friend who barely drinks said his drink tasted like juice! I've had way stronger drinks at the College Park location! Looneys has gone from a nice local hang out to just another crappy bar. Stopped on a Friday night, it was busy but not packed. After being seated, we waited 10 min for a server. While we waited I noticed a pile of trash on the floor near the entrance to the kitchen - Unsightly, not what you expect to see in a clean restaurant. Tired of waiting, I got up to order our drinks at the bar and the waitress finally shows up. We ordered a round of cocktails and she brings the drinks and asks to take our order. We weren't sure about food yet so said we'd wait a few minutes. And we never saw her again. Food wise I have never come away from Looneys in anyway impressed by the food - crappy bar food can be good, this isn't it. So we decided against food and I went to the bar to pay the tab. The Bartender said she's coming and we waited another 10 min til we could settle the tab. The bill came with suggested tip amounts which is common (and I usually appreciate not having to do the math,) however the lowest tip amount began at 20%. Nope, not even close. A tip is supposed to be added for a job well done, and I am a generous tipper even when service is, at minimum, delivered with a smile or warm welcome. None of that here. The bartender who was working very hard this particular evening was nicer and more responsive. Looneys, you can do better. read more

Came here for dinner today (Friday Night) and it was such a horrible experience. The host seated us outside and nobody came to take our order for 30 minutes. Finally a waitress came over to us and didn't take our order, but asked us to move! She said she had seen us waiting for service but that she needed a favor from us to get up and move so a bigger group can sit together. Came here with a good friend who lives in the community and we were HANGry!! Good choice since we were able to get food in our bellies quickly - OMG THE OLD BAY AND HONEY WINGS WERE SOOOOOOO GOOD!!! We also ordered the crab pretzel thingy which was just okay. We ordered the seafood quesadillas that were initially too salty, but once remade, were just fine. The service was great. This place seems to be a mix bag of reviews, and yelper personalities. One person called it racist and one person was upset about the quality of the prime rib...lol First of all who comes to Looneys for prime rib? Like really? That's like seeing caviar on a McDonalds menu, even if it is good I'm not gonna chance it just because I just naturally would assume it wasnt going to be there strong point. I took my mom to red Robin's, and she ordered a tri dipped sandwich and was upset it wasnt that great, but I'm like mom we're at a burger joint, get a burger or something they're known for. Stop experimenting and just get what we came for. Looneys food to me is awesome, it's good bar food for people who came to get drunk and have a good time. It's not bougie food for people who need their meals to be properly plated and garnished. Its burgers, wings, and Irish themed concoctions! I mean it really isn't that hard. Now I'll give it to the lady who said her waitress had the sniffles and was taking her order with a snotty tissue in her hand the whole time. That's gross!! Unmelted cheese on crab dip shows a lack of basic effort, but some of the other reviews I saw were kind of iffy. My overall experience coming to looneys over the years has been mostly positive. The honey old bay wings are ridiculous, and it's a great place to come with friends for a night out. As a black man I have never felt personally attacked by the restaurant policies.
