This restaurant has the best empanadas and such a variety of.both sweet and savory flavors..

Located in "Lower Monrovia" on Myrtle just south of the 210 in an absolutely awful location, Lord Empanada serves up some pretty tasty food, kind of "nouveau Argentinian", if there is such a thing. They have a wide variety of empanadas with fillings that go from "al pastor" to black beans with lots of others in between. We tried the spicy asada, al pastor, mushroon/cheese, and black bean empanadas and they were all pretty good; the last one was a bit on the dry side but that was quickly remedied with some of the house-made chimichurri. The empanadas are an ok size and apparently cooked to order. If you order an assortment they write which is which on your plate, which is very cool and a nice touch. The chimichurri has fresh oregano in it and isn't quite the same as the traditional but it was ok. Overall I'd say these are kind of "hipster" empanadas, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, all things considered. The room is small but has tables and booths. They have other non-empanada items available and we may go back & give them a try for dinner. Beer and wine are available (beer by the can, wine by the bottle) and there are desserts, too. The service is courteous, attentive, and very good overall. They were rated by yelp! as "one of the 100 best places to eat in America", and while I'm not sure I'd go anywhere near that far, we enjoyed our lunch; I hope they'll stick around after the initial hype has passed. Interestingly enough, the empanada we both liked the most was the mushroom and cheese one; the spicy asada one was also good, and the al pastor has a weird texture but tasted OK. read more

I love eating baby bites (i know.. just my thing) and it was so easy to bite through and the bread was soft and crunchy- very good! Esp w the chimmichurrri. -fries: loved. LOVED! : ) -mushroom empanada: my personal fave!! I just love mushrooms and cheese and the breadiness all mixed in was soooo good. I'd get 4 of just these and be a happy camper! -birrrria empanada: also tasty! Birria for me is super in need of the soup w it which wasn't an add on. They gave a different sauce that did have a kick though so i liked! The meat was tender and also very juicy which is good!!l -Tri tip empanada: even with it being so alike the sandwich, was worth the get! Same* -chimmi: goood!! It had a kick but also was a bit on the sweeter side than i expected. (I'm a very spicy savory kinda gal, but it was still good and added flavor to each bite) Service: -i didn't go pick up unfortunately, but was said that it was busy. A tip though was to check and make sure you ask/get some chimmi sauce! Price: -it's a bit steep for the size of the sandwich, but we actually split one sandwich and got several empanadas and that really filled us up. So considering that, I'd say it was well worth it! I'm so glad I choose Lord Empanada to cater my event. I had to feed 30 people so I ordered 60 empanadas. Two each of full size was perfect. I made a salad as a side. I purchased: chicken, birria, pizza, spinach, and mushroom. Everyone tasted great! I sampled the spicy asada and that too was yummy. Each flavor came in their own box which made it easy for setup. They boxed the salsa and chimichurri separately. The restaurant was clean. My order was ready on time. The staff was so helpful when I was there ordering and asking questions. These empanadas were absolutely delicious! You can catch a peek of them being folded and fried, and the freshness is evident. There were so many fun flavors that I recommend bringing a friend so you can maximize tasting them. We got their spicy asada, al pastor, chicken fajita, and spring roll plus the beef and birria from their regular menu. For dessert we tried the apple pie and New York cheesecakes... and finished off with flan. The empanadas are quite sizable - especially for the price. The crusts were crispy without being oily, and kept the generous fillings juicy. The accompanying sauces were also delicious, and we had fun mixing and matching them. My favorites were the al pastor dipped in their garlicky chimichurri (which we think was cilantro free) and the spring roll (like a fusion egg roll!) with the sweet chili sauce. Dessert wise, the apple pie dipped in BOTH dulce de leche and jam was perfect. I'll definitely be back again for the alfajore cookies - we were too stuffed to try them this time. They had a variety of beer and wine options, along with more desserts and sandwiches & plates and I'm looking forward to trying them too! They have a small parking area by the side, and signs for additional parking. It was pretty busy when we went, but the line for ordering at the counter moved fast and the food was brought to the table quickly. This review is solely based off the rude customer service, not the food. I was new to using an app that they partnered with. It was only my second time using it and it was a different process then the first time I used it. Anyhow, I put in my order and when I told the cashier I was using the app, she snarkley printed the receipt and tossed it. Ok, fine. I was a little confused with the process, but I did pay and showed her. I guess I wasn't supposed to push a button confirming I paid, but she said she HAD to. First off, I don't let strangers touch my phone. After that, I showed her my receipt, my Google wallet payment, and explained I was confused and it was only my second time using the app as I was still learning it. She rolled her eyes, gave me an attitude and said next time I have to show her and let her push it. This is the first time I am even trying this place and will definitely be the last. The sauces are to die for (they even sell a jar of them - that's how good they are!) Super excited for my very first Yelp Elite event here at Lord Empanada. Came in at 4pm on a Saturday and originally came in around 2:30 but they were closed because they had to make more food! That was a good sign for sure. It's a cute little restaurant with booths to dine in. Parking is a little bit challenging though so be prepared. The staff were super friendly though. I opted to taste 5 different empanadas: we got the chicken, beef, Birria, breakfast bacon & ham empanadas. My favorite thus far would have to be the Birria. The empanadas come out fresh and hot and ohh so yummy. The dough on the empanadas is just prefect with a nice crunch on the outside. They really do not skip out of meat on any of their empanadas. My husband and I also shared a tri-tip sandwich and honestly OMG! So delicious. The bread was super soft and not soggy with the meat and veggies inside. The meat was tender and flavorful! It was a great late lunch for overall. I highly recommend this place and I for sure will be coming back and maybe try out their dessert empanadas and more of their sandwiches. The staff here were super friendly. We got here a little late in the evening but they let us finish eating as they were closing up. They have a lot of vegetarian friendly options which kind of surprised me! My boyfriend got the burger which he really enjoyed and I got the caprese sandwich which was def one of the better caprese sandwiches I've had. Great customer service from DJ Richey! Really love all the options and flavors of the empanadas and they just celebrated 18 months here! Love the ambience and it is a smaller establishment which is great because there are only 6 tables. The agua frescas is absolutely 100% pure, my wife got the Sandia y Limón and it was fresh squeezed! The chicken empanadas and the flavor of the month spicy asada was the major winners for me, but all of the different flavors we ordered were delicious. This empanada place is so good. I tried another empanada place in Beverly Hills that was highly rated, but personally I liked Lord Empanadas better. The filling was delicious in every empanada and the outer crust was perfect. The filling was not overly greasy like other places I've been too. The cashier was the nicest person to ever. She was so sweet and helpful, and answered all my questions about the salsas. The "hot chimichurri" sauce was amazing. It was spicy but still had the original chimichurri taste. I ordered my food to-go but there is indoor dining with about 6-8 tables. Nice decor and some natural light from the big front windows. Parking is a little tricky. For me, customer service is half the experience. I was disappointed. I called my order in to save time and I paid the moment I got there. I stood in the small customer area around 15 minutes while they served a number of walk in customers who had come and gone. At one point I was the only person standing there which is when they looked into my order. Im pretty upset because it took longer to call in my order than five walk in customers. read more

Glad I found this place. Went after the arboretum to grab some empanadas for dinner. My husband did the happy dance after eating the beef one. The place doesn't look like a restaurant from the street view, but once inside it's super clean and cute. Friendly employees. Nice selection of empanadas and craft beer in cans. There are also lots of desserts to oogle. Had the spinach and cheese, beef, and chicken. All were tasty. Sauces have a great flavor. Love how they package and label the order. Came here for lunch and sampled a bunch of the "New Year New Empanadas". Had the Birria, Spicy Asada, Al Pastor, Spring Roll, and Chicken Fajita as well as the two dessert empanadas. These were the best empanadas we've ever tried!!! Wow, wow, wow! I stopped in around lunch time to pick up empanadas to take home to my husband. It was actually about 1 pm and my initial impression was a bit turned off by their parking situation. I had to circle around several times to find a space, even though people were coming and going. The parking is very limited, but I'm telling you, it is worth it. Find parking on the side streets or in their back street. They have about 10 empanada options, my girlfriend and I love the beef empanada, and I'm very surprised with the breakfast one as well. I got the beef stroganoff which is one of my absolute favorite and my girlfriend got the caprese sandwich. It's not my go to, but the caprese was phenomenal. I recommend EVERYONE to try this place. I came back the next day. Chicken fajita and the pizza empanadas in particular were my favorite of the bunch. The real winner though, it's the tri-tip sandwich. Probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. The chimichurri aioli I what takes it to the next level. Plus you can get a side of chimichurri and dip it as well, which provides more burst of flavor. Their fries are also great. They're crispy and have a bit of texture to them.
